[OOC: Help!]

Postby Cawnpore » Mon Jul 06, 2009 4:10 am

[OOC:] Hi Guys, I am by no means a new member, just an elderly reincarnation! However, it's been a while since I roleplayed actively, and I have to say I am finding these Forums rather daunting! How should I go about introducing my nation to the international community? I wish to participate in MT based RP.

Thanks!

There's lots of ways of introducing yourself into the International Community. Civil Wars are overdone but yet they still do a good plot. Assassinations, terrorist attacks and other stuff are fun. But really, it comes down to the plot line. Just do something good with a good plot line. Simple when you think about it.

Yes, all those are great ways. Plane crashes, terrorist attacks, hostage crises, the lot! Or open an embassy!

Anemos Major wrote:Well, I keep most of my numbers in a series of word documents; it takes a bit of time, but it can be done. You can feasibly RP without too many numbers; remember, a truly good RP is about quality, not quantity, and numbers do not really directly affect quality. They're a detail that's treated like an RPing convention, but these can be broken at times. Just make it look feasible.

In terms of introducing your nation, there're a variety of ways to do it. One pattern I've noticed lately is using major political events to show that you exist, although I wouldn't reccommend somehting as generic as a civil war; it's overused. First elections, military reforms, assassinations, terrorist attacks... there're a host of things that can be used. You can also involve yourself in international politics by applying to join alliances and creating diplomatic missions to other nations; allies are a useful thing to have, so that's an added plus.

If the numbers are really getting to you, then I suggest you find a model of government/ armed forces you like (or make your own one), decide your military ethos (for example, flexibility, multiple deployments, solid, established defence etc.) and model your army on that. For example, a defensive nation will almost certainly have less aircraft carriers than a nation which frequently deploys troops overseas. Everything has a role; that has to be understood.

Anything else?

Also, there's NSTrainers that can be contact for support. The thread for that is stickied to the forum. So I'm sure your going to get alot of responses.

Civil wars are overused, but still my favorite introduction type -- just as long as they're written well. Just remember, you don't necessarily need to make an introduction thread; hell, I didn't start a thread until two months in, I just posted in other threads that seemed interesting.

Good luck whatever you try to do, and welcome back!
