International Waters & Space Law & Order (MT-FT2)

Postby Kalasparata » Wed Jun 30, 2010 12:12 am

Ah, International Waters and space a place where everyone can go commit murders, robberies and rapes with no consiquences. This is bad. We NEED laws to establish morals there. Here we can come up with laws and punishments

PMT+ nations will need to protect our space
Image

And MT+ nations will need to protect International waters
Image

So, lets come up with laws and who'll patrol

Seabelt Public Relations Release
REGARDING: Call to action.

The Directorate Seabelt "Oceanic Security and Prosperity Operation" has been in effect for several decades now, regulating commerce in the central Pacific. Our array of islands (natural and constructed) and superior projection power allow all vessels to pass effectively and safely, all while maintaining a wide array of port facilities with an emphasis on international commerce with minimal overhead. All this safety and value-added shipping is available for a low toll to all vessels, national, NGO, IGO, corporate, or private, and security is provided by the transnational Directorate task force.

Stop on by, it's better here.

I'll start. I am an FT nation, not a PMT nation. Even so, I am in another planet, and my nation found an Earth-like planet in Proxima Centauri. Who gets to keep it?

Yes, we, The Directorate, are aware that the central Pacific are not the only ungoverned bodies of water on Earth. Kaukolastan was pointing out that the Directorate has taken steps to secured international interests from piracy and terrorism by establishing the Seabelt, and rigorously enforcing the "Oceanic Security and Prosperity Operation". The Directorate ensures the safety of all ships who have entered Directorate Seabelt for any non-hostile reason, and have, of course, paid the nominal fee, which, when compared to the cost incurred by pirate attacks, terrorism, and other sea-related disasters, is quite reasonable, and a damn good deal.

Of course, it goes without saying, that no nation in existence has the military power, or financial ability, to actively patrol all international waters on the planet. So, in an attempt to meet a more realistic goal, we are doing our part to secure international waters, and providing a grand service to all nations traversing the Pacific. As Kaukolastan said

OOC:
Of course you can, as long as you have a strong enough military to enforce it.
It won't necessarily be legal, but it is possible.

Wrong.

International Space, i.e, space that does not belong to anyone, is fair game for colonisation. The only way to ensure that the galaxy is free from crime and whatnot is to conquer every single nation and then enforce your rules over them all.

And somehow, I don't see the Rethast, the Huerdaen Star Empire or the rest of Legion, or other alliances such as the Syndicate, letting you rule them.

So I reccomend you give up attempting to patrol and police "international space".

A Dispatch from His Imperial Majesty, Tsar Nicholas IX, Emperor and Autocrat of All Russias

Let it be known that we see this as an attempt to nationalize what is, essentially, the frontier space of the galaxy. This, in addition to being futile, is an attack upon the sovereignty of any nation with colonial ambitions among the stars. Let it be known that any attempt to enforce these 'laws' on ships or citizens of the Russian Empire will be met with an appropriate response.

Thinking about it, nationalising the only thing left in the Galaxy is detrimental to growth of the population existing here.

You might consider taking a look at_

GA Resolution #20 'Suppress International Piracy'
GA Resolution #47 'Law of the Sea' (specifically Clause 2.a)
The Confrederated Clans (and other Confrederated Bodys) of the Free Bears of Bears Armed
(includes The Ursine NorthLands) Demonym = Bear[s]; adjective = ‘Urrsish’.
Population = just under 20 million. Economy = only Thriving. Average Life expectancy = c.60 years. If the nation is classified as 'Anarchy' there still is a [strictly limited] national government... and those aren't "biker gangs", they're traditional cross-Clan 'Warrior Societies', generally respected rather than feared.
