Well, civilians never go to the beach anyway, most are at home playing Call of Duty or at work. Also, they are too small to establish a stable beachead.

OOC: To be fair, coastal defenses still most certainly have their uses. However, that doesn't mean they are undefeatable bastions of ownage; they still need to be supported by local aircraft, artillery, mobile infantry, and naval forces. Pouring all of your resources into a single giant wall of concrete forts is just begging for your opponent to turn them to rubble using airpower and naval bombardment; and lets not even talk about if your enemy decides to drop paratroopers or other airborne infantry behind your lines like in Normandy.

OOC: Or an invading nation could simply sit safely off-shore as Comaack attempts to supply his 20 million men holding these positions, fails horribly because the logistics capacity for maintaining said positions would be hard to meet for a nation five times his size, and walk ashore once the defenders had starved to death. Or simply hit the massive logistics depots, railyards, etcetra necessary to even attempt to supply these soldiers with cruise missiles, stealth bombers or even God Rods, and wait for the defenders to either abandon their positions or starve/die of dehydration.

Or simply drop tactical nuclear weapons all along the line and wipe out the entirety of Comaack's army in one fell swoop.

Massive Bunker Systems are being completed along our shorelines with our garrisons of 20 Million men preparing for war. Many civilians are preparing for an invasion and stockpiling weapons.

OOC: Rather convenient, that you are about to complete a series of massive bunker systems and then tear it down for a refund so you can spend money on strengthening your Air Force and Navy.

OOC: I'd be tempted to do it as a non-canon training RP, like a government VIP wargames exercise. Like it would start with my President being informed of a nuclear attack on one of my carriers, the offender (most likely a sub) being detected, identified as belonging to Nation X, engaged and destroyed, and then have my President moved to a secure bunker and proceed from there.

The entire series of events would, however, ultimately be fictional (In Character) so as no actual damage would be inflicted, allies would not have to be drawn into a full-scale nuclear war, etcetera.
