As of July 1st 2009, the police force of Kazakgeorgistan has been replaced with ex-IRA mercenaries. These mercenaries will take over patrol, SWAT, training and administration duties of Kazakgeorgistan's police system. This move has sparked controversy from the public, claiming a mercenary police force would be too violent and brutal. A riot soon began in the streets of the capital, but was ended when the new police opened fire on protesters with rubber bullets and tear gas. A single group of 20 protesters refused to budge however, and were promptly shot by police, and the point was made. "Our new force is heavily armed and will crack down on ANY crime. Also, any civilian caught with a firearm will be executed on the spot. We do not tolerate anyone waving around guns in our nation." Said President Mikhail Kazak on the issue. For the Kazak Journal, I'm Vladimir Svensky.
