Cylinders are, obviously, cylinders that spin to simulate gravity.
Rings are basically vertical slices of a cylinder that also spins to simulate gravity. These are the largest of the three.
Stations have several rings connected via spokes to a central, weightless spoke. These are the smallest.
Throughout the Coalition's history, these cities have been aligned to the planet they are nearest to, thereby extending that planet's reach. In total, the population of the cities nears a billion.
However, in recent years, the spacers have clamored for more rights in the Coalition and, with some radicals, independence.
One spacer, Boris Trell, has led the Spacer Independance Movement (SIM) for years. However, a radical rival based on Ring Nine has recently assassinated Trell, rising to dominance in the SIM. The rival, Radt Cretz, has recently been weaponizing Ring Nine and affiliated cities, preparing for war.
Despite multiple attempts to peacefully resolve the situation, SIM has continued to militarize. However, with the majority of the QSN out in the galaxy, and the meager forces of the QSDF unable to handle a situation of this size, the Council has called for help in resolving the conflict.
