1. A nuclear weapon detonated at anything below a few kilometers will be virtually powerless.
2. If they are already about to blow, you could trigger them, but only with an obscenely large bomb dropped at an optimum height, ie. From a bomber.
OOC: I read online that it would work.

Richard Fenwick says that getting them out by air will be an impossibility due to the volcanic ash (OOC: which is canon unless people want me to point out serious realism issues in their own posts (unlike mine which are realistic including the ones where I nuke volcanoes), but since non-Gamer Iran didn't stab them in the back they're willing to arrange safe passage provided they don't try anything against the Fenwick Brigade.

It took them three months.
Three months of haggling, of logistical support, of flight after flight. It was to judge the slaver - the vile nation of “Fenwick”, those who threw other men, humans, under the yoke of slavery. Something so vile that even the Nacenians would condemn it.
Constant surges of fighters, day after day. Something ripped out of Desert Storm, to disguise the sudden surge of hundreds of aircraft. The slavers did not see the bombers slinging missiles from hundreds of miles away - no, they saw the hundreds of aircraft orbiting their early-warning radars.
By the time they noticed, by the time radars emitted, the telltale flashes of naval gunfire and more cruise missile launches were now visible on the horizon. Over 154 aircraft drove into Ireland, escorted by a wall of electronic warfare aircraft. AEW aircraft maintained a distant watch on slaver airbases, while EW aircraft jammed frequency after frequency - the Fenwicks could not be allowed to communicate their deadly orders.
184 cruise missiles had been launched at enemy communications, ranging from radio towers to command nexuses.
254 Aircraft had been sortied, ranging from EW aircraft, bombers, fighters, multiroles and AEW aircraft.
By the end of it all, a single question lingered on the mind of each pilot - would it be enough?
Ireland

The formation of 8 helicopters had a unenviable task - descend into the jaws of hell and destroy Fenwickian EW radars. It would be dangerous - there was no guarantee of survival.
Above the peaceful sea, they stormed towards their targets. The moon maintained a silent watch over the helicopters, bathing the sea in gray moonlight. Above them, aircraft soared. A wall of electronic jamming was keeping them hidden - for now.
It would be a roll of the dice. It would be the gamble of their lives. The operation hinged on variable after variable - incompetence, ground-hugging, equipment - they would be gambling with the reaper today.
If all went well, Ireland would well be on it’s way to liberation, with enemy communications and orders hampered by a slew of EW aircraft - preventing more collateral damage. If they failed, more would die.
“Charlie-1, to all radio silence in effect.”
Lieutenant Garshka fought down the feeling of unbridled terror as they approached their targets, the helicopters banking as they vectored in. He flicked the master-arm as he gave one final thumbs up to his gunner, calm rushing through their bodies as they finished their checks.
They could panic later, they had a job to do. The silent dish of the radar was visible in the distance as the helicopters hugged the sea, keeping them below the detection range of the radar as they approached. They were early - 30 seconds to the clock.
The silent tick-ticks were all that could be heard as the pilots counted down in their heads. Weapons systems were readied as the helicopters stood, waiting for the order.
4 LRSM missiles disgorged from each helicopter as they barreled for home, depending on the stealth capability and 208 submunitions of each missile to deal with the radars. Below them, AA crews were roused from their sleep, and Dubliners were greeted by the sounds of explosions and jet-engines.
The Liberation of Ireland was underway.
