Growing up in the shadow of his surgeon father, Kallaste was always pegged to be a medical prodigy that he would never be.

Classes passed. Awards won. Success inevitable.

Still, the image of hospitals always seemed to be that of a place of death. His father tended to casualties of the Orrostriskan Civil War, their limbs broken and flesh torn open, until he too fell victim to it. Sympathy from relatives and friends poured in, but Kallaste had never felt more free. And so he offered himself to the state, seeking purpose in his newly shattered existence.

Firefights gone wrong. Comrades lost. Pain endured.

Experience in the field trumped an entire childhood spent studying. His knowledge in taking lives quickly caught up to his knowledge of saving lives, and he built a fruitful life off promotions from his enemies deaths. Yet something deep within him still felt wrong, empty even. It wasn't until he met her that he realized killing was no way to live, but it was too late. By the time his work caught up with him, a child was already on the way. He was in too deep.

"One more job" he promised, tears in his eyes.

Perhaps now he would live up to his father's legacy, with the lives of others in his hands.

Only, in a different way.

TL;DR: Kallaste is a veteran government contractor, as skilled in combat as he is in medicine. He seeks redemption from a life of killing and hopes this mission will give him the resources to retire and live out his life in peace. An aloof and distrustful lone wolf, he prefers to work independently, but recognizes that cooperation may potentially be the only way of returning home.
