It started off as arguments and disputes between soldiers on the border however the Iranians will never accept their defeat in the 2nd Iran-Iraq war and being the first to fire the first shot and beginning their attack to reclaim the Khuzestan province targeting airfields destroying and downing various aircraft and targeting the Iraqi border defense emplacements weakening the defense line and hopefully open up a way to capture vital oil field however the Iraqi Armed Forces were able to repel the attack temporarily but are left under-equipped and undermanned due to said attack.

Now 2 sides duke it out in the Middle East one side to reclaim what is rightfully is there's and the other fighting to protect their gains as troops fight at the front behind the scenes threats of nuclear war are sent out to Iran telling them to back off however at the moment no reports of nuclear have been used.

Sides

Iraqi Armed Forces (IAF): The military of the Iraq Federation currently at the moment about an estimate of about 20,000 troops stationed at the border defense emplacement due to the surprise attack on their airfields, and supply lines, and their position left them under-equipped and undermanned, and scattered the only reason they managed to hold out is due to the terrain and artillery promise of reinforcements were heard over the radio however it will take some time for the troops and equipment to arrive.

Iranian Army (AJA): The army for Iran and also the attackers they're the main goal is to retake the Khuzestan province and any other land that was taken from them in the 2nd Iran-Iraq War and if it falls in their favor acquire some Iraqi Territory. They managed to hit the IAF border defense hard when they left their guard down causing a good amount of confusion and chaos however they didn't advance due to the IAF getting their act together and fending them off.

But isn’t SDI-ish BMD systems MT? I mean unlike the actual SDI which uses neutral particles accelerator and extremely high-powered lasers which function extremely poorly even in testing conditions, Brilliant Pebbles uses off-the-shelf late 80’s technology, furthermore, size-wise it is essentially around the same level of complexity as, say, Starlink system, which while expensive as hell, is neither the less very plausible.

And the “battlecruisers” are NASA Nuclear Shuttles mated with some guns, ASM-135’s and a laser from the Soviet Skif station

Not that the space defenses will have to come into play since I doubt either side is going to launch ICBMs at other nations, plus, if either side wanted to deliver a nuke it would be via land, air-launched missile or some sort of short-ranged ballistic missile like a SCUD.
