Quaxoglia is an empire with several large minority groups. The Quaxes are obviously the dominant group in most parts of the empire. But some parts of the country have different groups forming the majority... the Quaxoglian Arabs, the Quaxoglian Germans and the Dyapnad-speaking people.
The Quaxoglian Arabs are a majority group in the southwestern province of Thracia. They are Arab speaking people. And in contrast to the other parts of the country, the Quaxoglian Arabs are muslim. Although, some parts of the province are catholic and have a Quax majority, like Oniamundás. The province of Thracia is part of the Thracian peninsula in the southwest of the country. The north part of the province has a Quax-majority and is part of the Kapotal province.
From 1953 until 1985 there was an armed conflict between the central government (dominated by the Quaxoglians) and the Quaxoglian Arabs in the province of Thracia. At the time, Quaxoglia was ruled by the totalitarian Empress Pruts I. In the 1950s, after hundreds of years of supression of the culture, the Quaxoglian Arabs revolted against the central government in Belsina. They wanted that Thracia had more autonomy, or become an independent state. In Quax-majority areas, people where absolutely shocked. The conflict started peacefully, but quickly escalated after the central government crushed the protests. The rebels took over control in large parts of the province, but not in the provincial capital of Agnertaten and some Northern coastal towns. Armed clashed also happened between Quaxes living in and the Quaxoglian Arabs in the Thracia province. In the 1970s, at the peak of the conflict, attacks (mostely bombings and mass shootings) even happened in mainland Quaxoglia. Until that time, the conflict only raged in the Thracia province.
In 1985, a peace deal was signed. The central government and the Quaxoglian Arab leader in Thracia accepted to stop the violence. Quaxoglia itself became decentralised, granting slightly more autonomy to the provinces. Provinces with a different majority group or a large minority group, got even more autonomy. The power was transferred from the monarch to the prime minister. Since that time, there was peace... until the last federal elections in 2022.
Actual conflict
The socialist party became the largest party in the Thracia province... as well as in some other regions of Quaxoglia. But in most parts of the country, the nationalist party 'Quaxoglia First!' became the largest party. They want to return to a more centralised, unitary state and to have a Quaxoglian-nationalist discours.
The socialist party of Quaxoglia agreed to form a government with the nationalists... which angred the Socialisty Party-branch of the Thracia province.
Protests happened in several towns across the province and the federal capital city of Belsina. The protests were peacefull...
Until October 22th. Several 'extreme left terrorists', according to the Prime Minister of Quaxoglia, took over government buildings in the south and northeast of the Thracia province. The cities of Zamyah, Zuat Khatura, Dawlah, Bandar-na-Nès and Hemár fell under rebel control. The rebels took down the Quaxoglian flag and barricaded the cities, shouting 'NO PASARAN!'
On october 23rd, the federal government held an emergency meeting, and send the army to the 'occupied cities', they succesfully reconquered Bandar-na-Nès, and tried to force there way through the barricades with tanks... but they failed because a large part of the population supported the new government they threw molotov-cocktails on the tanks and shot at them (most Thracians own military guns because of the relative flexible gun laws). The conflict got a both socialist and ethnic dimension. On october 24th, the federal government declared the occupied towns as a "Disaster Zone", ordering the army to "clear the cities of terrorist elements". On October 25th, rebels blew an important bridge up on the T-61 motorway, linking the provincial capital Agnertaten with Bandar-Na-Nès and radical leftist group commited a mass shooting in Oniamundás, a Quax-majority city in the northwest of the province. On october 26th, the federal army shot for the first time. Intense street fights happened between Quaxoglian Arabs and Quaxes in most of the occupied cities and villages... escalating the conflict even more. Quaxes don't want to split from mainland Quaxoglia. They also formed a group, called "THRACIA KASULENSIS", declaring that Quaxoglian Arabs are "Dirty Communists and separatists". On october 28th, the federal army bombed the cities of Zuat Khatura and Dawlah, celebrated by "THRACIA KASULENSIS". The conflict escalated quickly. Ahmed Abdelmalek, was declared 'real' leader of the Quaxoglian Arabs, declaring Thracia "Indedependent, free and socialist".
Today, october 29th 2022: the cities of Zamyah, Zuat Khatura and Dawlah are still under rebel control, but where bombed. A large part in the south of the province and the city of Hemár are still under control of the Thracian Socialist Republic (TSR). The leader, Ahmed Abdelmalek, wants to take-over the entire province of Thracia to 'be finally free and declaring that the TSR should " liberate the catholic Quax brothers from the 'fascist regime' currently in power". The federal government tries to regain control of the rebelling area. Quaxes in the rebel regions are forming a fraction too, attacking the Quaxoglian Arabs. Violent clashes happened in the entire province ánd mainland Quaxoglia (shooting in Samás-na-Agem). Socialist protetest against the current government are erupting in several Quaxoglian city: around 500 up to 10.000 protesters in each city: Memen, Uraur, Depened, Lassonbloit, Cindiania and the capital city of Belsina. They are calling that the federal socialist party should step-out of the federal coalition immediately and end the 400 year old monarchy. "If they don't do what the people command, we will resist!". Until now the nationalist Quaxes in mainland Quaxoglian are only protesting against the protests and the clashes on online fora, but expected is that the nationalists will hold rallies in the countryside of Quaxoglia, where the nationalist party became the largest party. The nationalist PM declared a state of emergency in the entire country. The federal socialist party is refusing to step-out from the government, to maintain stability.
How this escalation will evolve... nobody knows. This is a conflict with many dimentions.
