Dehganistan Civil War (MT/CLOSED)

DEHGANISTAN CIVIL WAR.

The country of Dehganistan had a long history, but roots of recent conflict are to be found shortly after it's independence. In 2001 elections which might have been democratic, but certainly were not fair were won by Timur Saidov, who has been the president ever since. In 2003 a series of terror attacks rocked the country, resulting in Saidov introducing a state of emergency, which served as a cover for his power grab.

For first part of his reign, Saidov was a typical corrupt autocrat, leading Dehganistan in way he saw as most profitable. Things changed when Timur gained a new vision of himself as a restorer of ancient Persian Empire. From that time on, Dehganistan was under a policy of forced secularisation and re-Persianisation.

Sadly for Saidov, early 2000s brought recession. The dictator attempted to divert the blame by attacking Yashbegs - an ethnic minority. Thousands of Yashbegs were expelled, their property looted, and women abused.

The acts did little to help Saidov. Recession continued, driving a wedge between him and most of the population. In addition o that, the expelled Yashbegs became an easy prey to Islamic groups. Astrash-e-Islami grew to be largest of them, forming in Yashbegistan with silent backing of it's government.

In 2022, AEI inviaded from Yashbegistan, starting the long civil war that brought Dehganistan to ruins.

Army of Islam (Astrash-e-Islami) is an Islamist militant group operating in Dehganistan. The organisation is led by Mullah Mirza Muhammadov, and contains significant numbers of former Islamic State personnel. Most rank and file members are ethnic Yashbegs, but Dehgani clans Karteguin also display significant presence.

Five Yashbegs sat in the brush, armed with AK-47s and crudely made armor, they would be no match for a large force, yet that was not their target. Finally one would get up and toss a satchel with a crudely made bomb onto the road below. They sat and waited for a convoy to pass, or anything for that fact. This was rather common these days, for bombs to be thrown onto roads. One of the Yashbegians would start wrapping tape around his crudely held together barrel. Another walked off, possibly to relieve himself or get some food from the truck. Eventually they all ended up back in the brush, waiting for the thunder of the convoy.

Approaching the Yashbegs was a routine patrol from the border guard - three jeeps, each carrying a single infantry squad. The jeeps drove with large gaps between them to avoid being caught on IEDs. Inside, border guardsmen sat, scanning the area around them.

Lt. Parsa Omaidov sat in his chair, looking at the snow-cowered peaks of the mountains above him. They were in a large valley separating Yashbegistan from Dehganistan, formed by a local river. On both sides towered the peaks, sparsely covered with vegetation. Their slopes were mostly in dull yellow sand.

And inside his head, boredom reigned.

This was a routine patrol, like hundreds before. Once the patrol was complete, Parsa would return to his station, then go home to his wife, Zarrin and their three children. He would drink some tea and watch TV resting, before another boring day of patrolling the border.

But then the Lieutenant's senses activated. They were approaching a sharp turn of the road, with bushes on the sides. An ideal place for the ambush. As he saw the first jeep enter the turn, Parsa focused his attention in search of eventual threat. It was always best to be ready.
