State of War (Press Conference; Open)

It's been six hour since the events that transpired at the state ball. Total casualties were as follows: ten dead and 215 injured. The Empress and her daughter were nowhere to be found. The Masaki Mansion burned to the ground due to an assault by enemy agents. And who would take the blame for everything? The Farstars Confederacy. The press conference was a formality, as war had already begun six hours ago, but formalities still must be observed.

The young Emperor Janus Masaki has already received many accolades. He had dispatched an assassin sent to kill him (with a little help, of course) and not only that, carried on with the battle that ensued between Coredian and Farstars forces with some distinction. But now was the time to inform the galaxy of what had transpired.

"Ladies and gentlemen, his Majesty, Emperor Janus Masaki!" Everyone stood up as the Emperor, now in black robes, strolled into the conference room.

"My fellow Coredians." Janus began, a touch of melanchoy in his voice. "As you know, six hours ago, a most disturbing event has occurred. A series of explosions ripped through our State Ball, killing ten innocent people and injuring two hundred more. At the same time, assassins have attempted to kill me, the Mother Empress Katrina and my dearest cousin Riley, but thanks to the valiant efforts of the Coredian forces, they were defeated. As of this time, we have yet to locate the missing Empress and heiress, but unfortunately, I must assume the worst, as much as I wished otherwise. One of those assassins managed to survive and thorough interrogation revealed that a Farstars Confederacy Star Destroyer, which we have warned only moments before to leave Coredian space, was responsible for the disaster, sending the assassins under the guise of a diplomatic mission. We have destroyed that Star Destroyer before it could bombard the planet and finish what Issus began. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a most deadly enemy. An enemy who dared to call itself friend when its actions speak for themselves."

Citizens of the Galaxy! Six hours ago, the Coredian Empire was deliberately attacked by the Farstars Confederacy, but it was not the first time the Farstars have attacked us in the guise of friendship. They have attempted to murder Emperor Daniel Masaki, my Uncle, at the previous state reception! It was they who destroyed Issus, killed my Uncle, killed my Cousin Travis, killed everything on that beautiful planet! And now...now they have seen fit to attempt to kill the new Emperor, and finish where they started with Issus! Now their evil plans have been revealed: They have nothing less than the destruction of Coredia in mind, to pave the way for subjucation into their confederacy! They are the true enemy. They, who would betray everyone they called friend. Despicable fiends! "

"In consultation with the Kokkai and the Hokage, I have no choice. I did not want it, but i must do it for the safety of my people and for the security of the galaxy. From this day forward, I declare a state of war exists between the Coredian Empire and the Farstars Confederacy and I direct all military assets to the defense of the nation and the prosecution of war! I call upon all people of the galaxy to assist us in eliminiating the Farstars from the face of the galaxy! So it was spoken, so shall it be done!"

About an hour later having been in contact with their coredian allies, President Santiago went before the senate himself. He stood on the podium looking before the utter masses of people, his eyes worn and tired from the two years of presidency he had already endured he rested his hands upon the podium his image being broadcasted throughout the Union and the galaxy. He started to speak loudly but with a soft inflection.

“Today is another sad day within the history of mankind, as again our allies have been attacked; again they have been forced to defend themselves against a foreign and hostile power. We have stood by and let them take the brunt of attacks many times over. We have stood by and let millions die innocent men women and children in the past. We have stood by and watched countless of coredian people be subjected to harsh imperialistic rule when their worlds where captured. However, no more will we do this. This brutal and unprovoked attack the faction known only as the Farstars Confederacy will not go unpunished. I will not let our allies be attacked without just cause I cannot, morally we have a responsibility to them to us. They are our line of defense against imperialistic powers that otherwise we would be fighting .Every considerate and unprejudiced man, in every part of the union, freely admits we have just cause for war against people who plague our allies. The Farstars Confederacy has superadded thereto the most flagrant violations of the individual, national and territorial rights of the cordian people; and other matters of much higher import and immoral consequence. Tens of thousands of our allies’ citizens have died by this nation’s hand. We must put an end to these nations evil demonic way of doing things and restore morality freedom and tolerance to their people. A state of war is desired by no man; though most men agree it is not "the greatest of evils." The thunderstorm, black and tremendous, disturbs the calm serenity of the summer evening, and sometimes rives the steel and metal to tatters — it comes unwished for, excites general apprehension and frequently does partial damage — but it purges the atmosphere, gives a new tone, as it were, to listless nature, and promotes the common good. Thus it may be with war, horrid and dreadful as it is. The political, as well as the natural atmosphere, may become turbid and unwholesome. With this in mind I ask that the senate consider this declaration of war the most serious and grave thing we have ever done. The gravity of this situation Ladies and gentlemen cannot be underestimated. “

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United Terran Alliance in Congress assembled, That war be and the same is hereby declared to exist between the Farstars Confederacy and the dependencies thereof, and the United Terran Alliance and their territories; and that the President of the Terran Alliance is hereby authorized to use the whole land and Space force of the Terran Alliance to carry the same into effect, and to issue to private armed vessels of the Terran Alliance commissions or letters of marque and general reprisal, in such form as he shall think proper, and under the seal of the Terran Alliance , against the vessels, goods, and effects of the government of the said Farstars Confederacy , and the subjects thereof.

A lone women wearing the black and green robes of the Ossus JedI stood behind a podium, her usual long braids of red hair were gone completely, her hair now closely cropped. It was a Mirandan tradition to shave one’s head in grief for a lost loved one. Christopeher Hawkins and she had been rumored to be in a relationship once, but never again.

She spoke clearly to the gathered press.

“Gentlebeings it is with no enthusiasm that I bring you the news that the relations between the Confederation of Free Systems and the Cordian Remnant have deteriorated to armed conflict resulting in the newly crowned Cordian Emperor Janus Masaki to declare war upon our nation.

Only hours ago a diplomatic mission was suddenly attacked without provocation while orbiting the Cordian capital planet Sparta. The ultimate fate of the cruiser Maw is unknown at this time and our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of those brave service members that comprised her crew.

“Emperor Masaki has recently conducted a press conference where he issued many false statements regarding the current situation. You all know who I am, My name is Daneh Ghorbani, Councilor of the Confederation, and the elected master of Jedi council, and I am here to tell you the truth.“

Those who knew Daneh knew that she always spoke the truth even when it was incontinent.

“The Maw entered orbit of Issus and identified itself as a peaceful diplomatic mission, soon after it arrived in orbit it was targeted by an Orbital Defense Platform. Captain Gyrps ordered his ship to execute and evasive maneuver as the ODP fired a super laser at his vessel. After the shot was fired the Emperor hailed the Maw and informed our Captain that the discharge was only a warning shot. However the Maw suffered damage as a result of the warning shot which disabled the vessels FTL. As engineers struggled to repair the FTL, Captain Gyrps again hailed the Emperor and informed him of his ship’s damage and requested time to repair. This is all we can confirm at this time because the omega ha since entered hyperspace.

We can assume from the Emperor’s Press Conference that his government continued with their attempts to destroyer our vessel as she lay defenseless in orbit of Sparta.

“The Emperor would have the galaxy believe that agents from our vessel committed terrorist attacks against his state ball ceremony resulting in the deaths of a dozen civilians and wounding a few hundred others, while our forces also undoubtedly sent Sith Assassins to kill Emperor Janus his mother Katrina and his cousin Riley Masaki. Let us not forget however that Janus Masaki was the favorite son of the Sith Mistress Fiona Masaki, and that he is well educated in their dark ways. He claimed that one of the assassins has confessed to acting on orders from our government, but Janus Masaki knows how to intice people to say what he wants through whatever means he deems necessary. The entire galaxy also is well aware that the Confederation does not tolerate the Sith, to think that our government has funded and planned for a terrorists attack using Sith agents is inconceivable.

“ Our nation has been at war with the Galactic Empire and the Sith since before its ressurection but the threat of both of these entities is now diminished. The Empire is a diseased ruin of its former self with its successor states attempting to create states of their own in the unknown regions. The Sith themselves are a shadowing enemy that remains elusive. It is not in their nature to launch half hearted assassination attempts. If it were truly the Sith behind these assassination attempts Janus Masaki would be dead. It is the belief of the Confederation Government that the terrorist attacks on the state ball and the assaults upon the Royal Family are but the continual and repetitive in fighting associated with the Masaki family and the Cordian Ninja clans.”

Issus is destroyed. That much is true, and it was destroyed by the deployment of heavy weapons which had good effect against a Huntaerian battle fleet. It was a decision based upon the cold calculus of war, and as a result an enemy fleet was destroyed and their Navies’ ability to conduct further offensive operations crippled. Our former Ally lost many civilians due to collateral damage however if the enemy was not eliminated it seemed very likely Issus would have become another Tenetia, whose surface is covered witih glass rather then life. May the gods forgive us for the consequences of that operation but in war our consciences are often the first casualties.

Let there be no mistaking that the orders issued by the Cordian Emperor to attack our diplomatic mission was fueled by his desire for revenge against our nation. He is a Sith to the Core, the only thing that matters to Janus Masaki is the consolidation of his power and his ability to hurt others to make himself feel better by inflating his minimalist self-esteem like the immature teenager he is. To him war is a game, it is something that you win and gain some points and prestige. He wants to call himself some glorious protector of his people, who is leading the fight against our evil nation. Clearly nothing can be further from the truth, the Emperor is delusional, and his followers are dangerous fanatics.

War is disgusting, it causes nothing but sorrow and pain. It wont just effect those who are to lose their lives in the fight but it will effect generations to come. It is something our people are too accustomed to, and we will fight this one to defend ourselves. We will fight them at Sparta, we will fight them in space where ever their forces may be found, we will fight them in the Republic, we will fight them at Mon Calamari and if the catastrophe should happen that our Republic or a large part of it becomes subjugated we will fall back into the safety of the Farstars and we shall regroup and rebuild our strength. Let the Cordian Emperor know that we have a rendezvous with destiny and that our people will never forget the Sacrifice of the Maw!

In the generations to come let the progeny of the Cordian people look back at this war with chagrin, embarrassment, and regret. They will feel nothing but shame and disgust for the actions of their leadership. Let us rest assured that should our Confederation last a thousand years that our own progeny will look back on this time, these events, and our roles in executing them, as our nation’s finest hour. “
