First Ekag Civil War

NOTE: "Ekag” is an exonym, but in the present day refer to their land (and themselves) as Ekag.

Ekag, after years of existing as a failed state, is finally collapsing. Ekag's very large military unfortunately also contributes to some of the country's problems, which include widespread corruption, widespread human rights abuses, severe economic decline, hyperinflation, massive decline in the power of the Ekag government, and ethnic, religious, and political conflicts. The Erurist government requires all Ekag to follow Vrarism, a simple religion that believes that elimination of non-Vrarists is the ultimate goal, and that failure to do so will result in the elimination of their people. Ekag’s fanatic support for the Vrarists has caused it to distance itself from the outside world.

However, it's authoritarianism that has distanced the Erurist government from the commoners. Ekag, which was founded when the nomadic Ekag invaded Bralzaz and, after the Ekag genocide of the Bralzazian people, settled in the Bralzazian lands. Ekag has, for decades, existed as a nation that was officially ruled by a military junta, but never before has one of these generals has elevated themselves over the rest and formed a de facto military dictatorship. The de facto establishment of this military dictatorship, led by Egrodzakh Ehkg, was all that was needed for many former Erurist generals and soldiers to defect. Eventually, more modern ideologies found their way into Ekag, and soon the nation was forced to deal with Grodrelism, a secular republicanist movement promising freedom and liberty, Mucholism, announcing its support for equality and the absence of social class, and Dhodhism, a movement formed by previously mentioned dissatisfied Ekag generals and soldiers. Various secret Ekag attempts to destroy these movements either resulted in failure or short-term success with long-term failure. These attempts ultimately failed and allowed the movements to secretly prosper, while the movements of Brorkhadism, promulgating commoner rights, Bhurkism, an isolationist and nationalist movement, Baghegism, an apathetic faction, Traucrosec Vrarism, advocating for theocratic rule under Vrarist temporal officials, and Bulgrugism, a conservative capitalist movement, secretly formed.

Eventually, tensions began to build between the government and these movements, and between the movements themselves. Riots turned into rebellions. Thousands of Ekag were killed in these early conflicts alone, with little action by the government due to constant infighting in the junta between Erurists and Anti-Erurists. Finally, Egrodzakh Ehkg ordered the execution of all non-Erurist leaders in an attempt to restore order to the failing country, but the order was disastrous, as although some non-Erurist leaders were executed, most escaped, and the order only further angered the Ekag people. The Anti-Erurists finally declared a rebellion across the country, which started fighting in all major Ekag cities. Afterwards, the Anti-Erurists immediately formed the Ekag Anti-Government Rebellion (EAGR) as a temporary alliance against Ekag’s government. Infighting between the various EAGR factions slowed their progress, but Ekag’s complete failure as a state resulted in EAGR forces being able to control various major cities, although Ghar, Ekag’s de-facto capital (officially, Ekag has no capital) and second-largest city, and Eghv, Ekag’s largest city, while both contested, are still in Erurist hands.

Will the Erurist-controlled Ekag government finally fall, with one of the Ekag factions coming to power? Will the Erurist hold on Ekag remain? Will Ekag be fully conquered or divided by foreign powers? Will Ekag collapse into further chaos as no faction is able to fill the power vacuum? How the war goes from here is up to our belligerents. The more foreign actual support (military, economic, materiel, etc.) a faction gets, the more it's likely to "win", but there's no set result to the end of the conflict, and the faction with the most support isn't guaranteed a victory.

The Erurists have controlled Ekag for decades, and for good reason. The faction, by far, has the largest and most fanatical military, and, in particular, the most powerful army of any of Ekag's factions. The Erurists still have the largest ammunition supply, and the largest amount of wood, iron, coal, and uranium in their hands. Created as the largest and most powerful of the three major factions after Ekag's invasion of Bralzaz, the Erurists are no stranger to internal conflict. Their frequent attempts to subjugate, or at least weaken the factions have reduced their greatest enemies to insignificant rebels, and the civil war finally allows them to conquer their enemies at last.

Or so they thought. Although their greatest enemies, the Grodrelists and Mucholists, have occasionally fought each other due to ideological differences, and currently have hostile relations with each other, at the moment they, along with 6 other factions, have formed the Ekag Anti-Government Rebellion, united in their aims of ending Erurist rule at last. Although infighting is still frequent and the alliance is temporary, it is not known when the alliance will dissolve, and the Anti-Erurists pose a greater threat to Erurist rule than they ever have before.

It is not only EAGR that poses a threat to the Erurists. The Brorkhadists, a populist and pro-commoner anti-government movement also pose a great threat, their fanatical servants waging a massive guerrilla war across Ekag. The Roghcists, a dangerous cultural movement, threaten Eghv and many northern cities. And the remaining Bralzazians, fueled by fanaticism and hate of Ekag, have invaded the north, already capturing a third of their intended gains and threatening the last of the industrial lands held by the Erurists.

With time, or through fierce conflict, the Erurist regime over Ekag will finally fall.

The Erurist government was long hated. Even at the peak of Ekag's power the government was hated by its people, who longed for the day when the tyranny would finally end. The collapse of the dictatorship's rule over its territory finally gave the Grodrelists their chance to bring freedom and liberty to Ekag.

The people, soldiers, and generals that have turned this powerless faction into a major contender are unified in their hatred for the Erurist government and support for freedom. With its high morale and extraordinary discipline, the Grodrelist force has defeated various Erurist attacks whilst conquering various large portions of Ekag. Its large resource stockpile gives it an advantage over many other factions. Most importantly, the Grodrelists now threaten both Eghv and Ghar, and, if both are captured, the Grodrelists can effectively gain control over the entirety of Ekag.

Unfortunately, the Grodrelists have many other problems they must get rid of. Although currently in EAGR, the Grodrelists must get rid of their other main rival, the Mucholists, who gain support through false promises and increase their power rapidly. The Bhurkists pose the greatest threat of any minor faction, growing stronger with every passing day. Most importantly, the divisions between the various Grodrelist subfactions can destroy them completely.

Eventually, if unchecked, these problems will spiral out of control, and the Grodrelists will fall, their hard-fought attempts at bringing freedom and liberty to Ekag for nothing.

It is not the greedy Grodrelists nor the brainless Brorkhadists who will bring true equality to Ekag, but the Mucholists. The slaves and poorly-paid workers of the industrial factories of the south, the starved commoners of the cities of the east, and the exploited coal miners of the north have put their differences aside to fight together. All with one goal in mind: true equality.

With the highest morale, largest resource stockpile, and most industrial factories of any Ekag faction, the Mucholists have launched a fierce war against the greedy, venal, and self-serving Erurists, mostly with success. The massive amount of volunteers arriving from across Ekag together form the second-largest Ekag military, only behind the Erurists. It is this military that has conquered a large portion of the south as well as parts of the north and east. Significantly, the Mucholists threaten both Eghv and Ghar, handicapping the Erurists, and, if both are captured, allowing the Mucholists to effectively unify Ekag.

Like all factions, the Mucholists have many problems. The Grodrelists, the other major faction, must be eliminated alongside the other factions before unification can occur. The remaining Bralzazians, who have invaded the north, can easily take control of the industrial land and nullify one of their greatest advantages. Most importantly, the divisions between the three subfactions (communists, authoritarian socialists, and libertarian socialists) threaten the faction's stability.

The Mucholists cannot survive with these problems, and if they persist, the Mucholists will fall, and any hope for true equality with them.

RULES
  • 1. It's an open thread, but I'm still the OP here. Failure to follow these rules will result in disciplinary action. Only I can make responses to and decisions regarding OOC incidents, disputes, and questions.
  • 2. This is for IC content only. Absolutely no OOC content (including spoilered content) can go here. In the OOC thread, absolutely no IC content is allowed, and the punishments for IC content in the OOC thread are harsher because it should be more obvious.
  • 3. Please use proper spelling and grammar. If English is not your primary language or you don't know how to spell/use grammar properly, use a grammar tool to help you. For something free and simple, you can use Google, but I recommend Grammarly, which is also free but is far more useful.
  • 4. Don't be Ekag. Respect, alright?
  • 5. Don't destroy the entire world or all of Ekag, especially if you're an FT/FFT nation.
  • 6. If you are FT or stronger, you're limited to 5,000 soldiers and no vehicles/ships/non-infantry stuff. Other nations are limited to 60,000 soldiers total.
  • 7. Absolutely no FanT (fantasy tech) of any kind. This includes very minor FanT/supernatural feats, such as clairvoyance. PT is technically allowed, but if you're a PT nation you have to ask me first (by sending this nation a TG) before joining, and I may accept or reject you.
  • 8. You can decide your own casualties, but (mainly for FT/FFT/godmodding nations) your forces are not invincible. If you repeatedly avoid casualties, especially in situations where more forces should become casualties than your current amount, I'll decide casualties for you in that battle, and if you still continue, I'll decide your casualties in all future skirmishes or battles your nation's army participates in.
  • 9. That brings me to my next rule, which is to not control the casualties of other players and let them decide their own. If you believe that they are in violation of Rule 8, send this nation a TG and I'll see if the user is in violation.
  • 10. A maximum of 3 WMDs can be dropped, but you require permission by sending this nation a TG, and I don't know why you would want to do that anyway. In addition, you can only destroy Ekag-owned land or property, and only inflict casualties on Ekag forces unless a nation specifically states that some of their forces are killed.
  • 11. Don't give any side your technology if you are FT or stronger. It's unlikely that anybody would, but just in case.
  • 12. The assassination of any important characters is illegal without my permission, and it's unlikely I'll give you permission unless it makes complete sense for the character to die.
  • 13. Please, a minimum of 3 paragraphs. I'm not that good of an RPer myself, but we should at least have some effort. In this RP, dialogue does not count as a paragraph.
  • 14. RPs should focus more on your forces and less on characters. Character RPing is allowed, but if you can, I'd like you to avoid character RPs as much as possible.
  • 15. There is no signup thread. All nations are allowed to enter without asking. Asking to join the thread will result in me reminding you of what an open thread is.

Base (most of) your responses on NS stats since we don't have good factbooks yet. However, we do have an overview, a religious factbook (Vrarism) and a faction factbook, so be sure to read them.

                Ekag Desert
                North Ekag
                09:00

                Erurists

The sounds of gunshots echoed across the seemingly endless dunes of sand, occasionally stained red with blood. Just one week ago, the 260th Company had been in the black and red sands of the volcanoes, monitoring the border and attacking criminal and rebel hideouts. They were now fighting a war in the Ekag Desert, which, almost overnight, had been suddenly turned into one of the war's worst battlegrounds. Skirmishes occurred every hour of the day, and under the harshest of conditions, where all fighters were subject to the extreme heat of the white fireball above, as well as the occasional sandstorms. Frontlines, if they even existed, were volatile, and circumstances were becoming much worse each day.

The 260th watched from a distance as a rebel company discharged a rush of bullets out of their chambers and straight at an Erurist attack aircraft. It fired back, killing much of the company, but the aircraft’s lack of armour soon cost it, and, as the Erurist company watched helplessly, it eventually plummeted out of the sky, crashed into the sand, and erupted into flames before anything could be done. Earlier in the morning, the 260th had attacked a rebel hideout mostly occupied by Mucholists, with a few Grodrelists and Erurist defectors present. However, the attack was brutally repulsed, and the 260th lost a third of their forces. The force had been returning to base, but was distracted by conflict. It was now over 20 kilometers away from their intended route, and was wandering increasingly further into the desert.

Suddenly, the forces of the rebel company began fighting amongst each other. Clearly, the company was the very same company they had fought earlier in the morning. It was less clear to the 260th why the fighting materialised, but in any case, the Erurists saw an opportunity. Assuming they greatly outnumbered the enemy, they launched a human wave attack straight at the rebels, and believed fear and exhaustion would break the rebel company. However, it came too late. By the time the 260th began their attack, the rebels had resolved their differences and were able to hold their forces together. In addition, though the 260th did outnumber the rebels, the disparity between them was not nearly as great as was thought. Some attempted to halt the attack, but it amounted to nothing as the undisciplined force continued charging, even as the sand slowed their attack to useless, and even as the rebels began firing on their hated enemy, killing them en masse.

No member of the 260th would return to base that day, or ever again.

                Eghv
                East Ekag
                14:00

                Erurists

Eghv was once an efficient and energetic (albeit sombre) large city. Smog, omnipresent and hostile, choked the city as it always had, and crime had always been present throughout, but things were now different. Buildings, military factories, and coal mines had been reduced to mere rubble. Fighting broke out on every road. The city where people once walked the streets with purpose was now covered with the bodies of men and women that had tried so desperately to take this city for their people. To any foreigner, Eghv before the war already would have been a horrid sight; to any journeying here to fight, or perhaps document, it would be a terrible nightmare.

Among these bodies, a man walked. He knew he shouldn't have been there. His coughing, which, throughout Eghv, seemed as common as breathing, would give his location away. Still, he surveyed the city which was once the military centre of his vast empire, and examined the remains of destroyed buildings. He walked as if there was no danger present before suddenly stopping and warily observing the surrounding area. He noticed another man near one of the partially-destroyed buildings and waited several seconds for the other man to disappear, and then began a descent into the ground, a descent that lead into an underground ammunition bunker. He walked past a soldier at the door and proceeded to sit at a table, where several officers were present.

"Egrodzakh, I see you have taken another reckless walk," one officer remarked.

"I have a right to observe the damage done to one of our cities by radicals and madmen!" This response by Egrodzakh would start the disastrous argument.

"You do not have a right to endanger the safety of not only yourself, but of us and our nation!"

"Do you not remember? I am your superior!"

The hectic, panicked yelling continued for quite some time as Egrodzakh clashed with officers nervously opposing him. At the apogee of this argument, three gunshots sounded, and the room fell silent.

                They had been discovered.

                Ghkzar Border Crossing
                North Ekag
                14:00

                Erurists

The smell of burning flesh, the battlecries and screams of Erurists and rebels alike, and the sight of a fiery blaze engulfing them overpowered any thoughts, replacing them with instinct, an instinct that could be deadly. No more than 30 seconds ago, the Erurists had been training on the deadliest border crossing in Ekag, preparing for an attack on a Bralzaz camp on the other side of the border. Indeed, these border crossings only existed to attack Bralzaz camps, as emigration and immigration had been banned by the Erurist government. The attack would never come, as a force of rebels had unexpectedly ambushed them. Now, all their officers lay dead, and the remaining Erurist forces were trapped between hostile Grodrelist, Mucholist, and Brorkhadist rebels on their side of the border and potentially hostile Bralzaz on the other.

Erurist forces fired aimlessly and nervously as the rebels closed in on their position, climbing above and charging across the walls like a tidal surge. Some of the Erurists attempted to restore order, but it amounted to nothing as artillery fire rained from above and disloged them from their positions.

Upon receiving radio orders to retreat from their positions, the Erurists spent no time attempting to escape the bloodbath. They briefly considered the idea of fleeing across the border to Bralzaz territory, as the Bralzaz were not yet in the war, but this was shot down as treason, and so they charged into the flames, and into the rebel lines. A confused and bloody slaughter followed, but in the end the Erurists could not break through. Most were killed; some, violating orders, surrendered to the rebels.

Though the Grodrelists and Mucholists had at the very least qualms about committing war crimes, the same was not true for the Brorkhadists, a fierce desire for revenge suppressing any feelings of doubt. In seconds, the act was done.

                Bash
                East Ekag
                15:00

                Grodrelists

Bash was not much different from Eghv. The scars and of government control still lingered, and the remnants of government abuse of the people still survived. Even in these harsh times, however, the embers of Grodrelist ideals smoldered. And now, they finally had their chance. The once smoldering fires were now raging, and there was no better example of this than here. The slave markets and cabins had been destroyed, the slaves themselves freed. The old propaganda posters, once everywhere, had been hastily torn, and pieces of poster were still on the walls. The people, though still unhappy, were finally free of the oppression that once dogged them. On the outskirts of this city was an underground headquarters, and it was here that the Grodrelist leadership planned their operations.

A man prepared for entry into this headquarters, an entry that would take over an hour to complete. He was a hard-working, diligent man, and the paragon of the Grodrelists. As he began his descent, he prepared for the chaos of Grodrelist meetings and placed into his pockets presentation papers. He briskly walked through the tunnel and, upon arriving, he was noticeably exhausted. Several officers immediately came forward to greet him.

“Officers, we are preparing for a great and terrible event,” the man declared. “It is not long before the rebellion dissolves into various factions. We must prepare. Do not trust any non-Grodrelist forces.”

“General, you do realise that they are still our allies?” one officer replied. We should trust them until the rebellion dissolves, which we should attempt to delay as much as possible.”

The debate continued for a time. Eventually, the general snapped, “We have more business to get to!”, silencing the officers.

He then continued, “We have a lot of work to do. It’s time to get foreigners on our side. We will need them if we are to win this war.”

                Uz
                South Ekag
                15:00

                Mucholists

Uz was the Brorkhadist centre, and its epitome. Strangely similar to a Mucholist city, town, or village, it was the largest of the poor and marginalised communities under the iron fist of the Erurists. However, even now it was not entirely free of Erurist control. Several areas of the city were still held by the Erurists, and the city was surrounded on all sides by their forces. In the eastern part of this city lay a Brorkhadist bunker unsurprisingly similar to the others used by Ekag factions.

After finding her way into the city through a narrow tunnel, a woman holding a briefcase entered the bunker. She continued down the hallway until she found and entered a room, where the Mucholist and Brorkhadist leaders were situated.

“Sir, my apologies for being late,” the officer stated. “I had quite a difficult time finding my way into the city.”

“That is fine,” the Mucholist general replied. “Have a seat with the rest of us.” He was a warm and sympathetic man, and he had hesitated to hold this meeting.

After the officer sat down, the Brorkhadist general continued, “I see the rebellion is falling apart. That is unfortunate, but there is nothing we can do. I do not wish to assist you, for I do not trust you. Now, I must ask you to follow me.”

“So, you are accepting your fate.”

                “Which is?”

                “I’m sorry.”

                “I’m sorry?”

As he was being arrested by the Brorkhadists, the Mucholist general hesitated for a second. He was beginning to question himself and his morals, but his officers, having already exited, were signaling to him. It would be happening soon, so he went, braking free from the Brorkhadist hands, and exited the room with them, shutting the door on the Brorkhadist officers. A few seconds later, an explosion sounded. As the Brorkhadist forces ran to check on their leaders, the Mucholist officers began firing. An intense but quick shootout followed, in which the Brorkhadists were completely eliminated and one of the Mucholists was killed.

The unity of the rebellion had suffered a fatal blow, and it would only be a matter of time before it collapsed.

“We must leave this city as soon as possible,” the Mucholist general uttered, partially to the other officers and partially to himself. “There is still much to be done.”
