DISASTER STRIKES CORRINGTON!

During the State Opening of the Corrish Parliament in the House of Lords, His Majesty King Richard V, Her Majesty Queen Annetta II, members of the Privy Council, senior judges of the Corrish legal system, and numerous members of parliament were tragically slain in an explosion now known to have originated beneath the building. A second explosion occurred concurrently at the Royal Archives as well, taking no known casualties but igniting thousands of treasured documents. Prime Minister Madeline Fletcher and several hundred members of parliament are being hospitalized and are known to be in critical condition. Investigation has revealed it to have been a terrorist attack, though no conspirators have been discovered or arrested. The Deputy Prime Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and principles of the military are assembling at a secure location. The nation stands at maximum security alert.

With the death of the King and Queen, there is now a scramble to install a new monarch. It is expected that either Prince John or Prince Edward will be crowned king, however documents specifying which of the twins were born first must be produced from the royal archives, which have been damaged to a great extent and are currently inaccessible as authorities attempt to extinguish the fires.

With Corrington at its darkest hour and many of its leaders fallen and incapacitated, there is a high possibility for a swift takeover from within any level of the royal family or bureaucracy unaffected by the attacks. The line of royal succession in relation to foreign allies is as follows:

(OOC: There's an election that was supposed to be held in Hopal in October that I didn't get around to finishing. School has been a lot of work, and I've had to put aside NS in order to get through it, and I've wasn't able to finish RPing the election, and I've kind of forgotten about NS, though I still instinctively log on every day. I have less work now, I've gotten through most of it and I hope to finish RPing the election. All of that though was just to explain that for the purposes of this RP I'm going to assume that John Stophoe and his Independence Party won a majority in the election.)

IC: The Parliament was debating a bill to increase farming subsidies when a Colonel in the Army rushes into the room with a note for Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Harrison Reid, who was presiding over the session of Parliament from the Chief of Staff of the Joint Military Command to adjourn the session. The Colonel further explains that the Corrish Parliament Building and the Corrish Royal Archives have been bombed and that the Chief of Staff of the Joint Military Command recommended that the Parliament be brought to a secure location in case there were any bombings planned in Hopal. So 10 minutes after the Corrish bombings Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Harrison Reid adjourned the meeting of Parliament and they were escorted to the bunker under the Parliament Building which connected to the nearby Parliamentary Airport. The bunker built during the renovations of the Parliament Buildings over the last year and a half was built of steel, coated by aluminum and other composite metals. For the time being the Parliament remained in that bunker, though a military transport plane remained at the Parliamentary Airport ready to transport the Parliament to another location.

The Army inspected the area around the Parliament Building for any bombs and the entirety of the Hopalian Military was put on high alert, with reservists being asked to report to their respective bases. Civilian bunkers in the Mountains were opened and all Hopalian borders were closed, with no exceptions being made. With a military ally in crisis, all of the nation was being put on high alert. Prime Minister John Stophoe, Deputy Prime Minister Harry Felixon, Minister of Foreign Affairs John Leswig, and Chief of Staff of the Joint Military Command Jack Harrford all tried to contact their respective counterparts. Vice Marshall James Lionel tried to contact his sister and brother-in-law Alexandra and Jack Wayne, while Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Harrison Reid tried to contact Prince Edward and Prince John.

Undisclosed bunker location:
Leading Member Miguel Faulkner, Minister of Foreign Affairs & Relations Danielle Robinson and Ambassador to the ICDN Evy Krall approach the royal residences in one of the bunkers dotted around Arvan Irawer. They show their security card and are let in by a guard.
"Your Majesties, I have just been told of your niece's safety. You must be glad. I hope you are not too displeased with your accommodation here, you must understand if we didn't have to have you here we wouldn't. But, with your close ties to the Corrish Royal family, we can never be too safe." Miguel Faulkner starts.
"Thank you, Mr Leading Member, we are comfortable here and are grateful for your protection." Divine of State Arvan Irawer V replies as Duchess of State Selina Irawer nods approvingly.
"Now, we - Madam Ambassador and I - are here to discuss our possible position on the succession crisis. We do have a claim, but it is not the strongest. So, who would you like to support in this crisis?" Danielle Robinson asked.
Arvan Irawer V looks at his wife and she says "We wish to support Prince Edward as the new monarch. But we also wish for Countess Athena Irawer and her husband to be kept safe and any support they require they be given."
"Of course ma'am" Danielle Robinson replies.
"Don't announce it though." Arvan Irawer V exclaims "Tell Prince Edward however."
"Yes, sir"
All three leave the royal rooms while Arvan Irawer V and Selina Irawer quietly speak among themselves.

It was clear that the Corrish authorities still had no grasp over what had just hit them, or who is responsible. Some military and intelligence leadership mutter about the possibility of Taiwanese Southwest Africa’s involvement. Though no evidence can prove it, the phrase “resurgence of TSWA terrorism” makes its way around the room. Stophoe is promised a conversation with Deputy Prime Minister Bentham once the situation becomes more clear, until then the remnants of Corrington’s government will continue to try to create some sort of order among the chaos.

Alexandra and Jack Wayne were both living quietly with one another in the Corrish countryside at the time. Alexandra had finally come to reside in Corrington after finishing her year teaching. Still, in the more remote location news traveled quickly. Vice Marshall James Lionel’s call arrived only minutes after their learning of the attack over television. Jack immediately knows that their loose royal status puts them both in jeopardy, and tries to contact Prince Edward and Prince John for help.

Prince Edward is at a maximum security location, and is busy speaking with the Deputy Prime Minister, principals of the military and leaders of the Church of Corrington, trying to sort out how quickly the archive fire can be put out so that his birth records (if they are still intact) can affirm his right to the throne without complications between him and his brother John. Princess Marie Therese is at his side throughout all of these conversations, and says not a word but leans against him from her chair.

Prince John is able to receive Harrison Reid’s call. Him and Princess Ann Elise are in Nordeslund on an unofficial visit, but have also been relocated beyond the public eye by security.

The documents could become completely destroyed in such an act. I’m afraid that this is all we can do at the moment”

Edward hung up in disbelief, as his wife shakily handed him the message from Arvan Irawer with a clammy hand. The two royals were growing paler every minute. The prince read the message carefully, before dictating a response.

Their safety is of our highest priority. They may not be in the immediate line to the throne, but they are close enough in these uncertain times that we must ensure their maximum survivability. 25 Minutes after the Bombings:
Stophoe tells the aide to tell Bentham that Corrington can always count on Hopal's support and assistance in any way necessary and that he is always just a call away.

Harrison Reid is a tad bit frustrated that he can't get to Prince Edward, but after taking a deep breath and thinking it through he understands why. He turns his attention to the call with Prince John.
"How are you and your wife holding up after... what happened?" he asked.

Meanwhile after the call with the aide Stophoe assembles his cabinet in an isolated corner of the bunker.

"Well we haven't much information, but what can we do and what are our options after this... horrible attack on one of our most steadfast and reliable allies?" Stophoe asked.

"Well I think we ought to lower and go into state mourning." The Deputy Prime Minister Harry Felixon said.

"I'll put out the statement soon, I think 20 days is an appropriate amount of time. Anything else?"

"I could try to get all of the ICDN Foreign Ministers and Ambassadors together on a call later to see what we can do. And I think we should try to get in contact with Doherty in Corrington, and see what insight and knowledge we can get from Horowitz." Minister of Foreign Affairs John Leswig suggested.

"We can summon him here." Stophoe said.

"Wouldn't Horowitz be able to keep in contact with his people in Corrington and stay up to speed better at the Embassy? After all that's where all his resources would be." Minister of Industry Lauren Johnson asked.

"Good point" Stophoe said "Let's get Horowitz on a call then." Stophoe and the cabinet then proceed to try to get in contact with the Corrish Embassy while Minister of Culture Lawrence Tahity releases a statement announcing the 20 day period of mourning.

Meanwhile Vice Marshall James Lionel at his house in Hopton on a call with Alexandra and Jack Wayne his sister and brother-in-law tells them that they'll always be welcome in Hopal and that he has a place for them if they want to come to Hopal. He tells them that if they need anything that they should just ask and he'll try to get to them. Asking them if they want to come to Hopal and if they needed anything. He also asks them if they know of the condition of his parents Henry and Marion Lionel, as he wasn't able to get in contact with them and they were in Corrington attending the State Opening of Parliament, he tells them that he already fears the worst.
After the call with the Waynes he calls his fiancée, Helen Jovell, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and a Member of Parliament after checking up on each other and Helen telling James that she was okay. He quietly and somberly put on his military uniform and headed out for the Joint Military Command Building.

We offer our condolences for the unfortunate event that has befallen the Corrish King, Queen, Privy Council, and Parliament. While this event may be tragic, a larger issue lies ahead. As of the moment of the writing of this statement, the heir to the Corrish throne is uncertain, and multiple members of the Corrish Royal Family lay claim to the throne. Chief among these two are Prince Edward and Prince John, and it is unknown which has been born first.

After a moment of concerned silence, Jack Friedman speaks up.

"Well, right now it's a 50-50 chance that we pick the one that was born first, from our knowledge. As Prince John is currently out of the country, supporting him covertly will stir up less of a shitstorm if we're wrong, and gives us a chance to gain favor with Nordeslund while maintaining our relations with Dalmannia. Additionally, he'll owe us for our support later on if he gains the throne."

Meanwhile, Terrence was devastated at the news, specifically due to the loss of in laws that were considered very close family members. Although, Terrence is very surprised at the possibility of himself becoming king of Corrington. However, that is a job he doesn’t want, as he believes that whoever becomes a ruling Monarch should be of Corrish descent. This means that Terrence wishes to remain as Trade Minister, and doesn’t really care who becomes the ruler, wether it is his future son or daughter, or any of the current royals vying for the thrones of their parents.

As many of you know four days ago, our ally Corrington was attacked. An explosion occurred and many members of their government died, including their King and Queen. The current succession line involves Prince Edward and Prince John as the next in line. However, the princes and twins and due to a fire at the Royal Archives, it is unknown who is the oldest. We have been in contact with many members of the Corrish government and the royal family. Throughout these discussions, we have been considering who we believe to hold the greatest opportunity for Corrington to develop and maintain. We have decided to support Prince Edward and his wife Princess Marie Therese in their claim to the throne of Corrington. We will support them in any way necessary.

Finally, as an ally of Corrington, we must support them in all their trials and tribulations, in all their sturdy times and their weak times. We wish all citizens of Corrington our condolences and hope that they can rebuild better than ever. Thank you"

The Hopalian Prime Minister and his cabinet were patched through to an aide of Deputy Prime Minister David Bentham. There was little information to be given to Hopal’s government, though it was told that Prime Minister Fletcher was being hospitalized and was in critical condition. It was clear that the Corrish authorities still had no grasp over what had just hit them, or who is responsible. Some military and intelligence leadership mutter about the possibility of Taiwanese Southwest Africa’s involvement. Though no evidence can prove it, the phrase “resurgence of TSWA terrorism” makes its way around the room. Stophoe is promised a conversation with Deputy Prime Minister Bentham once the situation becomes more clear, until then the remnants of Corrington’s government will continue to try to create some sort of order among the chaos.

Alexandra and Jack Wayne were both living quietly with one another in the Corrish countryside at the time. Alexandra had finally come to reside in Corrington after finishing her year teaching. Still, in the more remote location news traveled quickly. Vice Marshall James Lionel’s call arrived only minutes after their learning of the attack over television. Jack immediately knows that their loose royal status puts them both in jeopardy, and tries to contact Prince Edward and Prince John for help.

Prince Edward is at a maximum security location, and is busy speaking with the Deputy Prime Minister, principals of the military and leaders of the Church of Corrington, trying to sort out how quickly the archive fire can be put out so that his birth records (if they are still intact) can affirm his right to the throne without complications between him and his brother John. Princess Marie Therese is at his side throughout all of these conversations, and says not a word but leans against him from her chair.

Prince John is able to receive Harrison Reid’s call. Him and Princess Ann Elise are in Nordeslund on an unofficial visit, but have also been relocated beyond the public eye by security.

25 Minutes after the Bombings:
Stophoe tells the aide to tell Bentham that Corrington can always count on Hopal's support and assistance in any way necessary and that he is always just a call away.

Harrison Reid is a tad bit frustrated that he can't get to Prince Edward, but after taking a deep breath and thinking it through he understands why. He turns his attention to the call with Prince John.
"How are you and your wife holding up after... what happened?" he asked.

Meanwhile after the call with the aide Stophoe assembles his cabinet in an isolated corner of the bunker.

"Well we haven't much information, but what can we do and what are our options after this... horrible attack on one of our most steadfast and reliable allies?" Stophoe asked.

"Well I think we ought to lower and go into state mourning." The Deputy Prime Minister Harry Felixon said.

"I'll put out the statement soon, I think 20 days is an appropriate amount of time. Anything else?"

"I could try to get all of the ICDN Foreign Ministers and Ambassadors together on a call later to see what we can do. And I think we should try to get in contact with Doherty in Corrington, and see what insight and knowledge we can get from Horowitz." Minister of Foreign Affairs John Leswig suggested.

"We can summon him here." Stophoe said.

"Wouldn't Horowitz be able to keep in contact with his people in Corrington and stay up to speed better at the Embassy? After all that's where all his resources would be." Minister of Industry Lauren Johnson asked.

"Good point" Stophoe said "Let's get Horowitz on a call then." Stophoe and the cabinet then proceed to try to get in contact with the Corrish Embassy while Minister of Culture Lawrence Tahity releases a statement announcing the 20 day period of mourning.

Meanwhile Vice Marshall James Lionel at his house in Hopton on a call with Alexandra and Jack Wayne his sister and brother-in-law tells them that they'll always be welcome in Hopal and that he has a place for them if they want to come to Hopal. He tells them that if they need anything that they should just ask and he'll try to get to them. Asking them if they want to come to Hopal and if they needed anything. He also asks them if they know of the condition of his parents Henry and Marion Lionel, as he wasn't able to get in contact with them and they were in Corrington attending the State Opening of Parliament, he tells them that he already fears the worst.
After the call with the Waynes he calls his fiancée, Helen Jovell, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and a Member of Parliament after checking up on each other and Helen telling James that she was okay. He quietly and somberly put on his military uniform and headed out for the Joint Military Command Building.

“Mr. Reid, We are… well, it can’t be described. I’ve been given the details but Ann Elise doesn’t know yet. I can’t bring myself to really talk about it so too her yet. I’m not even sure I know the full extent of what happened. But I will say that I know myself to be the proper heir to the throne. My mother, Queen Annetta (Providence rest her heart), took me to the archives and displayed my birthright to the throne. I know my brother is seeking to take advantage of the chaos to surpass me, but evidence should prove that I am the rightful heir.”

The Corrish crown would simply add more to my plate as Trade Minister, so I believe that however becomes the ruler of Corrington should be a Man and/or Woman of Corrish descent, so it can possibly be my future son or daughter, or even any of the current princes vying for control." However, Corrington as an ally that is too valuable to lose, especially since a victory for the Marajarbian people and the Corrish people who wish for there to be a Marajarbian monarch should there be any, might actually also make us lead the ICDN? In any case your Royal Highness on behalf of the people of Hopal I offer my sincere condolences to you and your family and to the people of Corrington during this tough time. I want you to know that you and your family will always find a safe haven in Hopal. And I do hope you and your brother can sort this dispute of the crown swiftly and peacefully, the last thing that Corrington needs at this time of crisis is a Civil War. That will be all though, unless you have you want to speak to me about, and remember I and we here in Hopal are just a call away, so if you need anything we're right here."

Before James Lionel leaves for the Joint Military Command Building he tries to reach the Hopalian Embassy in Corrington, the Corrish Embassy, and the Office of Anglesey Initiative, all say they don't have any useful information on the whereabouts of Henry and Marion Lionel.

40 Minutes after the Bombings:
After a call with Gerald Horowitz, the Corrish Ambassador which didn't provide them much new or useful information the Cabinet tries to reach the Hopalian Ambassador in Corrington, John Doherty. They reach his Chief of Staff at the Hopalian Embassy who tells them that Doherty was attending the State Opening of Parliament and no one knows where he is at the moment, they say that there are people on the ground and in the hospitals trying to locate him.

50 Minutes after the Bombings:
The Cabinet is debating what to do about the borders and the Emergency Border Measures that Prime Minister John Stophoe had decreed shortly after they had arrived in the bunker. The debate is ferocious with Minister of Foreign Affairs John Leswig, who had led the country as Deputy Prime Minister through a foreign invasion and Prime Minister John Stophoe arguing against the likes of Minister of Trade Brandon Gates and Minister of Income Francis Irvin that the border measures should be kept in place. The group eventually agrees on fragile compromise that the border measures should be kept in place until they get an update from the National Police Service on the state of the country. It is shortly after that compromise was agreed to that they got a call, it was from the Embassy, informing them that the Ambassador John Doherty had been found at a nearby in a critical state and in a coma. They also inform them that Henry and Marion Lionel had not yet been found.

Vice Marshall James Lionel arrives at the Joint Military Command Building and finds it in panic mode. Military leaders shouting and barking orders at subordinates, couriers frantically running around to relay information to those leaders, analysts fueled by coffee looking into various scenarios and writing short case studies into them. Lionel is set to the bunker where the rest of the Joint Military Command is and when he arrives there he lobbies hard for a place for Jack and Alexandra Wayne to land, as they had told him of their intention to go to Hopal, and for all Corrish citizens seeking refuge in Hopal to eventually be able to arrive. After some convincing Longsworth Air Base just outside of Hopton is assigned as a landing spot for a Corrish aircraft carrying the Wayne couple, if one was organized. Approval was sought from the Cabinet which allowed for the exemption to the Emergency Border Decree, and a telegram was sent to Prince Edward and the Wayne couple informing them of the location. With Prime Minister John Stophoe and Minister of Foreign Affairs John Leswig trying to reach the Deputy Prime Minister David Bentham and the Corrish Foreign Minister.

Reaction by the Government of ZN: ZN Senate already in similiar issues after 5 car bombs have exploded all over the nation as right wing groups have taken to power vaccum left in ZN as the ICDN collaspes to attempt to gain power. Over 500 in attacks and counter-attacks(By the army). The government officially stays out and advises Zarnicov the VII and the church to also stay out of any conflict to prevent it from back firing but those Monarchists and Church forces are the right-wing groups behind the political voiloence.

Though the archive fire was extinguished within 48 hours, the search for any remnants of the birth certificate documents continues. After several days, hope for any shred of unscorched parchment is growing thin. Authorities say that it is unlikely that the official records will be found.

This is especially problematic because both Prince Edward and Prince John are claiming that they are rightful heirs to the throne. Being twins, the eldest would inherit the crown, however this knowledge of which twin was born first he been held in secret from the public by the late King Richard V and Queen Annetta II, for traditional reasons. Both princes claim that they were shown the documents at some point. There is no precedent for such a dispute, though Acting Prime Minister Bentham has proposed that the remnants of Parliament should put it to a vote.

On the subject of parliament, the results have been devastating with many of the survivors of the bombing still at hospitals. Visitors from Hopal, Harry and Marion Lionel, are also in the hospital after being found in the chamber’s rubble. Prime Minister Madeline Fletcher remains in “poor condition”, but has regained consciousness on several occasions. She does not yet know the extent of the situation, not the succession crisis. Physicians have ruled that in her current state she is not fit to govern, and that she will need time to recover before returning to the job. David Bentham, her deputy PM, has been sworn in as Acting Prime Minister while she recovers.

To add to the chaos of the terror attacks, the public is now focusing its attention on a pseudo “New ICDN” that had been announced within hours of the bombings. This only adds to the confusion and fuels conspiracy theories of an effort to topple the Corrish-ICDN’s hegemony. Without evidence and still without enough information on the attacks, people’s frustration and rage begins to focus abroad.

Members of newly established missions would begin organizing economic political and other assets to gain some power. New larger missions quarters would be built. With this they'd look to the canidates for the throne for agreements and endorsements looking to concessions for support.(And maybe creat another primarly or majority Zarnicovian nation)

Zarnicovian missions payed full funeral services for all who died in the fire and explosion and their hospital fees. Giving the families condolences no matter what faith they are. They'd all begin promoted their ZN based TV/news site 'Church times' who also began a spefically Corrish channel They'd organize public praying for the people in the hospital inviting all and meeting with officials.
