The International Government Meeting (OOC, MT & Signups)

Postby South China Xiangdao » Sat Nov 06, 2021 6:57 am

This is a modern technology RP and character-driven.

The International Government Cultural Meeting

The year is 2014, and President Liow Soan has set up the International Government Cultural Meeting at a large house in the countryside/urban limits of Guangsenlin, South China Xiangdao.

She has set this up as both a way to expand international relations but also for politicians to have fun.

In-universe date is 7 November 2014, and it finishes 12 November 2014; after weeks of punishing international discussions where she flew to eight nations, she's decided to reward some international politicians with cultural fun as a diversion from paperwork and meetings and as a reward.

She is 39 (current age now, in 2021, she's 46 and still President in canon, as you will see later on pru.ch.net on NationStates forum).

Over these 5 days, you will take part in cultural activities unique to South China Xiangdao, independent of People's Republic of China since 1836. This is 5 days of interesting tourism, and you'll get to see things that ordinary tourists may not, and even taste some uniquely exotic cuisine!

This is a chance to relax and take your mind away from politics.

But bear in mind, you're still representing your country, to other politicians and diplomats.

Application form.

RULES

All NS rules in One Stop Rules shop apply

1. No one-liners; you don't have to write a thousands of words essay, but keep it realistic.
2. No godmoding (although that is not as much possible here in this RP, and character deaths aren't even factoring into the equation)
3. Don't be a dick, OOC or IC; if you are being obnoxious IC, keep the language within reasonable limits.
4. No racism OOC.
5. This is a political RP, of sorts, but don't bring real-life politics into it.
6. You must RP your arrival at the manor, but not to the country. Law of conservation of detail - we don't need to know about the flight to the nation etc.

Note: Account is too new to post images so URL was used instead.
7. This is modern-tech, so no aliens, wizardry, non-humans etc. (Exception of course, for guide dogs and assistance animals, but these are still characters)
8. This is a gentle RP, character-driven, so enjoy yourself.
9. Have fun, and in the words of Bill and Ted from their Excellent Adventure:
Be excellent to each other

OOC: This is an entirely separate nation from China, and although its people are ethnically Chinese, it is its own distinct nation and culture. It is an invented nation that's an amalgam of some things from Asia, but uses some Chinese and Japanese mythologies mixed for its own unique slant on things.

This RP is a food-based one too, and more character-driven than about a major conflict or war as with many RP's on here.

It's a gentle RP.

This nation is a work of fiction, as are all names, places etc. The views expressed by my characters do not represent my actual views. All characters and other entities appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, dead or alive, or other real-life entities, past or present, is purely coincidental.

Representative's name Lord Caldish of House O'Sion
Age 42
Political experience As a member of the Imperial aristocracy, Caldish is permitted to attend the Court in the Lords Assembly, where he may vote on laws.
Languages spoken Mournlyish (fluent) Brushwicker (amateur) Cantonese (fluent)
Do they speak any varieties of Chinese? Caldish is able to speak Cantonese and a little Mandarin.
Biography Lord Caldish was born in Naval Bay on Frystaff Isle, his father a captain in the navy and the latest ruler of their House. The O'Sion's were a smaller family than some of their rivals such as the O'Callaighs, Willuns or Allencrofts, and largely kept to themselves, focusing more on their military lives as important naval officers and captains.

Lord Caldish, like his father Lord Eoin, went school in the capitol of Townhill, before attending the North Mournly Military Academy and joining the Navy as a lieutenant upon graduation. He proved to be a capable officer, and chose to sign on for a second four years after finishing his first enlistment, eventually earning the rank of captain and commanding a missile destroyer. Though it seemed he had a promising career in the Imperial Navy in front of him, Caldish chose to not remain. During his time in the Navy, he had studied languages, mostly out of curiosity, and eventually became fluent in first Brushwicker, so as to better communicate with some of his own country men, and then wanting a larger challenge learned Cantonese.

Upon the end of his service, rather than attend Court and take part in the running of the Empire, Caldish instead looked elsewhere, wanting to use the leadership skills and language he had learned. Leveraging his position as an heir to a Great House, even if it was a small one, Caldish managed to get a position as the secretary for the old diplomat to Xiangdao, essentially giving him a direct line to a man who could teach him all of the ins and outs of the trade. Sir Cullem Allain was a man of common birth, and hard worked exceptionally hard to reach the position he was in, and did not immediately like or appreciate Caldish's presence, seeing him as an upstart who had only managed to do the things he had done due to nepotism. And he was not inherently wrong, but he was mistaken about the strength of Caldish's character. Caldish proved to be quite adept at his job, finding it to be a much simpler experience than trying to command a ship and the marines on board, and in time he managed to earn the friendship and even mentorship of Sir Cullem.

After ten years, Sir Cullem announced his retirement. He was nearing eighty-five years old, it was time for hime to be done. Caldish immediately wrote a letter to his father and directly to the Royal Cabinet, attempting to petition for him to receive the position as Chief Diplomat to Xiandao, and asked Sir Cullem if he would do the same. Sir Cullem did not say weather he would or would not, but when two days before Cir Cullem left Caldish was informed that he would be taking Sir Cullems place, he felt fairly certain that his friend had put in a good word for him.

Not long after, Caldish's father died, and as the heir, he now received his fathers Lordship, making him the Lord of House O'Sion. However, with his new position as Chief Diplomat, he did not have time to worry about the running of his House, and instead assigned his younger sister to lead their house and attend Court in his stead as his House Representative.

Since then, he has remained the Chief Diplomat for two years.

Your nation's current opinions or national stance on South China Xiangdao The Twelve Isles views South China Xiandao as a valuable ally to have, allowing them power projection and access to trade in the Far East. The Empire, not fully trusting China but still valuing the trade that China could provide, views South China Xiangdao as a viable alternative to maintain diplomatic relations with other nations in the area while not directly tying themselves to the CCP.
