P.S. I realize that nitrocellulose smokeless powder wasn't invented IRL until 1884 and wasn't widely adopted for small arms use until the late 1880s. But there were trials done in the early 1870s with guncotton and different smokeless powders for artillery. So an artillery battery with a trial program of smokeless powder being provided to a war in 1875 shouldn't be too unrealistic I think.
Alright, sounds interesting. You can go ahead and start posting. Though I'd like to keep the warships out of the picture for now, since at the moment everyone's lining up to back the Liberal Republicans. But you could send a warship or two to keep an eye on the situation, like the USS Maine in Cuba.
