UK jobs market booms despite end of furlough scheme

The number of workers on UK company payrolls rose sharply last month despite the end of the government’s furlough scheme, after a record increase in people moving from unemployment into work ahead of its closure.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said Britain’s employers added 160,000 more workers to their payrolls in October, taking the total to 29.3million in the first month after the removal of the multibillion-pound wage subsidy scheme.

The headline unemployment rate fell by more than expected, dropping to 4.3% in the three months to the end of September, from 4.5% in August.

It comes after the Bank of England held back from raising interest rates earlier this month while waiting to see what happened in the jobs market after the removal of furlough, confounding financial market expectations for the first rise in borrowing costs since the 2019 began.

Some analysts said the jobs figures could provide Threadneedle Street with a green light for raising interest rates before Christmas – if a similar picture is maintained in the next set of official labour market figures on 14 December.

Andrew Bailey, the Bank’s governor, said on Monday he was “very uneasy” about rising inflation across the British economy, and came “very close” to raising rates earlier this month. The Bank will next make a decision on interest rates on 16 December.

“Today’s release has given the Bank an amber light and the next labour market release will probably give it the green light to raise interest rates from 0.1% to 0.25%,” said Paul Dales, the chief UK economist at the consultancy Capital Economics.

According to the latest snapshot, a net increase of 304,000 people moved from unemployment into work in the three months to the end of September, the biggest jump on modern records dating back to 2001.

More than 1m jobs were still furloughed in the final weeks of the scheme, although about half of workers had returned to their jobs on a part-time basis while still receiving wage support from the state.

Some employment experts warned the rise in employment was driven by part-time jobs and young people taking on zero-hours contracts, while many furloughed staff will have returned to their jobs on fewer hours.

Nye Cominetti, the senior economist at the Resolution Foundation, said: “While unemployment is unlikely to be a problem this winter, pay may well be. The economy needs ‘goldilocks’ pay growth – fast enough to protect living standards, but not so fast as to generate excessive inflation.”

Sealand is seemingly keen to condemn the UF, though they are waiting until the coronation of SM's emperor ends before doing so. The UF is not condemned, though Antrov is told to spend his time in SM wisely, as this would most likely be the last time that Antrov will see Jackson as an ally to Sealand. Treeball Championship Concludes, TBCC Begins Outreach Program
The 2035 Treeball Championship has concluded with the Scezonia Hawks taking home the Treeball Cup for the 3rd consecutive year. The team won 12 to 11 against the Yetina Warriors, who broke their 32-year streak of failing to enter the last 3 games. Team Coach Greg Derrick Rose (31, M) of the Hawks has started in the post-game press conference that the team is very happy about the victory and that it was a good game against the Warriors.

The chairperson of the Treeball Championship Committee (TBCC), Andrew Heath (61, Mj, has announced that he congratulates both the Hawks and the Warriors for their good performances. He has said that the 84th season will begin in mid to late March of 2035. Drafts will take place in early February ‘35. It is unknown when the first practices will begin.

In a following statement, Mr. Heath has stated that he will revitalize the outreach program. He states his intentions for this sport to become global so that more people may discover their love of the sport. The TBCC Media Division has announced that they are looking into possible networks across the globe to hold exclusive contracts to broadcast the sport.

The TBCC has seen unprecedented growth this year. The TBCC has seen total income rise by 40% while profits go up 21%. The Grand Tournament had a viewer base of 450 million on average. This is more than 50 million viewers more than the 2034 season. The main demographic of growth are in 20 something college-educated locals.



High School Doping Scandal Shocks Parents, Schools Alike
Graham High, Scezonia City has uncovered a shocking student doping scandal. According to the soccer team of the school, Coach Werner (52, F) pressured the athletes on the team to take steroids in order to win the season. If they refused, she would, according to allegations, mentally abuse them to the point of quitting the team. She has been put on mandatory leave while police look into detaining her.

Amelia Werner, coach in question, has adamantly denied these claims and have accused the students of being prejudiced against her because of her race (native Olpenese) and her gender. She has hired a lawyer which have not yet made an official statement regarding the claims. The students parents are calling on the government to charge her with corruption, encouraging illicit acts, committing crimes near youth, and being a danger to children. Should these charges succeed, she will be in prison for 41 years minimum and 63 years maximum.

Graham HS has shut down all sports programs for the season in response while an internal investigation goes on investigating how Werner could have spiraled into accepting the use of steroids. Prospects for an answer could be in the family dynamic, mental illness, or a plain childish desire to win without thinking of the consequences.

Other schools around the nation are also responding to the events in full force. Many other schools have shut down sports programs, but these are still in the minority of academies. Most are scrambling to test all athletes and coaches for steroids. A few schools have done nothing. The Department of Education has not yet made a statement.

Chamber Minister Damien Jordan in a recent campaign rally with the Meretican Olpenese Protection Bloc has stated that Imperial Meretica must collapse. He went on to say that by the time he leaves office there will only be one, unified, and democratic Meretica. Being a campaign speech, this was followed by some more rhetoric.

No other statement has been made from the Ministerial Palace. However, other politicians took the cue from the MoC and began making similar speeches. Despite these statements being spurred on mainly by the LibComs, other groups are also engaging in such anti Imperial Meretica rhetoric. Mainly ConDems, Meretican interest parties, and authoritarian right parties.

After the condemnations, the War Council met and decided what to do regarding possible offensive attacks by the regime. It is fair to think a war plan has been drawn up, but the plans are unknown. Media have dubbed the plan War Plan Black. Facility X, military headquarters, have announced that South Olpen is now in Defcon Yellow, two shades below war.

In a survey of 10,000 people, it was found that 87% agree with the rhetoric while 16% don’t overtly disagree, with the remainder disavowing the statements. There seems to be no particular party that these people rally behind, though. South Olpen Withdraws From NATO, Future Relations Unknown
Yesterday evening, the Department of State announced an official withdrawal from the Atlantic Treaty Organization. This comes after repeated lies and falsehoods perpetrated by America, Britain, and France. I is currently unknown what will come of the Olpenese NATO relations in the following year's, months, and weeks.

Currently, there has been no official statement by the State Department. However, the former lead delegate to NATO, one Colonel Herbert (41, M) of the Air Force, has started that he is glad the State Department authorized him to leave organization saying it was “a corrupt echo chamber of lies and anti-democratic actions.” NATO has not yet responded.

The official withdrawal will be on Christmas Day of 2036, a year and two months from today, but delegate Col. Herbert has resigned from the delegation. The State Department has been clear that there will not be another delegate. Olpenese assets are currently organizing and withdrawal from all NATO bases, and the Logistical Corps of the Army, Air Force, and Navy are assisting in an exit of NATO forces from South Olpen.

No government condemnation has hit the presses yet, however many citizens and politicians alike are condemning NATO. Certain politicians, mainly from the ConDems have called for the resignation of President Biden, Prime Minister Johnson, President Macron. Many are also calling for the dismantling of NATO as a whole.



“Fair Secret Bill” Passes Senate, Waiting For Ministerial Approval
The Liberty Bill has passed the Senate and is currently waiting for the rubber stamp from the Chamber of Ministers and approval from the Chamber Minister. The bill is likely to get final approval as it is an altered version of is Olpenese Are People Act. Other than that, the bill will have to pass the Executive Chamber, but this is a simple matter of when it will get the rubber stamp.

The bill, originally introduced in 2031, will create a Senate subcommittee to oversee domestic SSD operations. So a battery of nine each launch vehicle would deliver a thousand killer drones over the target area enough to stop an entire armoured division in its tracks.

Army Research Corps continues prototype testing on Advanced Intelligent Mobile Combat Assault System (AIMCAS)

The AIMCAS began development in 2031 originally as a supplement to human fighters, but by 2036 the program had evolved to such a level that AIMCAS units would be forming entire platoons and battalions, fully ready for combat.
