talked with mirum on discord, said this might be accepted. so here we go.

APPLICATION FOR RP

Nation Name: Vanguard Detachment Kx-5462, Cult of the Stellar Vanguard; Designation "Vonyi"

Form: Lacks a general codified pretitle. In principle, an esoteric socialist republic; in practice, a quasi-feudal mess of countless systems all paying lip-service to the core worlds. Will functionally operate in this RP under the aforementioned Vanguard Detachment Kx-5462 (VD-Kx-5462), comprising the united armed forces of the five hundred and sixty-third star-province's ninety-eighth, ninety-ninth, one hundredth, one hundred and first, one hundred and second, and one hundred and third star-sectors.

Leader: In the case of the present detachment, it's Admiral Henrietta Kordovskaya.

Leader Factbook: N/A

Tech Level: FT.

Fantasy Level (None, Low, High, etc.): None.

Population Size: The entire Vanguard Cult has a population of countless trillions, beyond any reasonable quantification. The "Astan United Autonomous Zone" (a semi-independent contingent of Vanguard space which operates in the name of its interests but functionally acts as an independent govt.), the unified polity overseeing VD-Kx-5462, has a combined population of ~112 billion.

Military Size: Will be deploying ~950,000 naval personnel, and ~1.2 million ground personnel. ~2,000,000 in reserve in total.

The logistics behind maintaining such a deployment will be difficult for the AUAZ. The Admiral will need to be very careful with her resources. A ship lost is not a ship that's being replaced any time soon.

Main Factbook URL: There is none, minus: https://www.nationstates.net/nation=gre ... ok/id=main but it doesn't have much; I'll elaborate for exposition's sake.

Aeons ago, further back than mortal man may count...

The nation we know to be the progenitor of the Cult, the People's Federation of Reinkalistan, in the year 2054 A.A. (A.A. being a primitive term used by the civilisations of the day to quantify the historical development since the collapse of some then-ancient civilisation, the name and nature thereof being long lost to our records -- also seen as roughly analogous to the common A.D. - "Anno Domini" - observed in extrauniversal entities and civilisations), unleashed a form of world-ending weapon they called the "atom bomb", "nuclear warhead", &c. We know that these used the destructive potential of atomic nuclei in order to cause relative widespread destruction which effectively annihilated all civilisations previously on the planet. We do not know who ordered the bombings, but we know they were undertaken with the purpose of annihilating all opposition. It is commonly understood that Reinkalistan was prepared for the cataclysm, as the nation persisted through the fire via a series of well-equipped and fortified bunker systems, and, over a process which took nearly a century, established control over the rudimentary societies still left on the home-world.

Its world domination finished a revolution which had been building since 1964 A.A., by which the "People's Federation" itself was established. We know that the new "Cult of the Vanguard" proclaimed in the year 92 N.W.E. ("New World Era", the term still used by contemporary Vanguardist society that marks the total cycles of the Cradle-World experienced since the nuclear cataclysm which heralded our new age) obtained total control over the resources and energy of their star-system, and, over many thousands of years, obtained faster-than-light travel and established a grand, ever-proliferating domain which began to grow of its own accord. In the wake of such sheer distances, even the speeds of faster-than-light travel were incapable of crossing the vast distances involved - journeying from one end of today's Vanguard territory to the opposite would take around a century with the most developed prototype F.T.L. drives we have yet even conceived - and thus considerable authority had to be yielded to local governors. While the core worlds, a few hundred star-systems included, experience frankly immense bounty and prosperity, the vast amount of Vanguard space is managed by those who operate under the relative security of the vast yet similarly-decentralised Vanguard fleets, and yet govern nigh-independently. The price of this independence is taxation in the form of drafted manpower - usually cryogenically frozen for the long journey to the core worlds as to preserve their youth and thus fighting-capabilities - and raw resource yields as a percentage of that harvested. The rest is invested back into the local system or lines the pockets of local leaders who are little more than warlords. Disobedience to the central government's lines will still see you removed from your governorship -- forcefully, if necessary.

In the wake of such immense localisation, we see multiple proto-states take form in Vanguard space. We concern ourselves at present with the Astan United Autonomous Zone, a declared alliance of six local Star-Governors (each ruling a star-sector, which can range between 20 and 100 systems) consecrated in the Astan System on its capital planet of Unity. While not recognised by the central government (in fact, their size compared to the Cult at large is nigh-negligible), their sheer economic and military might means they wield considerable authority and thus independence, while nevertheless paying their (slightly-reduced) dues sent back to the Core Worlds. They signify a trend of proto-states joining together in the wake of increased technological development and thereby political centralisation as relative distances become smaller and smaller. Many fear the collapse of the Cult may be looming, or an otherwise intense quantity of violence shall erupt as either these statelets declare independence, or the Cult aims to assert its central control over more and more regions in the wake of continued technological development.

But in the AUAZ, things are calm. Life is, almost, tolerable. A stellar democracy has been forged in its development, the autocracy of the central systems having little bearing on the freedoms of the local population. Despite this, a widening class divide is leading to tumult at home. Planetary elites grow fat off of their new autonomy, and their less-assailable position in the wake of the new alliance means they have relative protection from the central government intervening in their abuses. Despite this, however, progress is developing slowly, as this small beacon of interstellar liberty fosters the candle of republicanism in a galaxy so tainted by war and suffering. Already, in the year 11,421 N.W.E., thirty years after the AUAZ's founding, the quality of life has gradually risen -- though alongside this, corruption and profiteering grows rampant in the deep recesses of the state's internal workings. The newly-formed VD-Kx-5462, representing in military terms the interests of the peripheral systems, form the lone shield by which the flame is guarded.

In the wake of Dracha's expansionism, the wider Cult is complacent. But now the people of Astan and beyond have a way of life worth defending, they have begun arming themselves and preparing for war. The Cult will not be sundered by outside forces -- and even if the central parasites will not understand that, it must know that the people of the periphery have a home. And that's a home they'll fight to keep.

Military Factbook URL: N/A Right now.
# Of Characters: 2

Character Apps:
NAME: Henrietta Kordovskaya
ROLE: First Admiral of VD-Kx-5462; Effective Commander-in-Chief of the Astan United Armed Forces
DESCRIPTION: Short, skinny, not conventionally attractive. Long black hair, thin face, and brown eyes. Plain-looking. Face weathered by age. Usually wears admiral's uniform.
IMAGE (Optional): N/A
FACTBOOK (If Present): N/A
BIO (If no factbook, 1+ paragraphs): Henrietta Yausar Kordovskaya is the third person to bear the title of "First Admiral" of the entire VD-Kx-5462 detachment, at age 52. Born in the AUAZ's beating heart of Astan, she watched as the union emerged and became a vocal proponent of it. Her family was a military one, and thereby she immediately enrolled in the Fleet Academy and graduated with flying colours. An adept commander, she proved herself in the Battle of Danakai, when her fleet fought off the much larger Kayev Detachment under Governor Viktor Kayev of the neighbouring Yunoshichi system, attempting to invade the AUAZ, claiming that its formation was a violation of Vanguard Law. Kayev died in the conflict, and the nominal regional authority for the entire star-province would proceed to vindicate Kordovskaya's actions and award her with the Order of Vanguardist Merit and Bravery, stating that nothing about the AUAZ's formation violated any Law laid out by the Central Systems. Despite this, however, she is still relatively unproven for her tastes, and was a vocal proponent of intervening against Dracha. Ambitious, bloody-minded, and fiercely independent, she nevertheless is cunning and has very nuanced warmaking strategy. Despite this, many wonder if, with Dracha, the admiral is biting off more than she can chew.

NAME: Wilhelm Mayer
ROLE: Presiding Minister of the AUAZ; Governor of Astan.
DESCRIPTION: Tall, "bulky", 67 years old. Balding with grey hair. Stern face, has aged rather well and is considered relatively handsome for his age.
IMAGE (Optional): N/A
FACTBOOK (If Present): N/A
BIO (If no factbook, 1+ paragraphs): Wilhelm Mayer is not a particularly remarkable person. This is, for the AUAZ, a good thing. As its leader, he brings stability, moderately-minded governance, and generally has the wide support of the population, having been elected as President three years ago. He was born in the Danakai system, and served as the system governor during the Battle of Danakai, during which he developed an admiration for Henrietta's management of the battle, hailing her as the "Saviour of the Zone". They became friends shortly afterwards, and his election to the Astani governorship (thus occupying the position of "Presiding Minister") has seen more funding go towards her military, considering a "military-first" policy to be the most apt application of resources considering the tumultuous atmosphere in the Star-Province following the Battle of Danakai. Personally authorising the intervention against Dracha, he has been considered "the Periphery's Foremost Guardian" by many of his fellow governors within and without the AUAZ.

am aware how late this app is, got approval through discord

APPLICATION FOR RP
Nation Name: Combined Battlegroup "PALISADE" | 13th Fleet "Kali" | Confederacy of Liam's Reach Star-Navy
Form: Ad-Hoc Combat Formation
Leader: RCNA-04 Oppenheimer, Rear Adm. "Vara Roberta", CLN/CLIS Commissioned
Leader Factbook: None.
Tech Level: PMT/FT schizo
Fantasy Level (None, Low, High, etc.): Low in the sense that FTL is inherently a fantastical notion, apart from that none.
Population Size: 11 (49 noncombatants)
Military Size: 11 automated warships, 10 sub-cruiser class - attached "digit" droneships - assorted tender vessels and support vehicles
Main Factbook URL: here. Includes the entire PALISADE fleet. Not sending all of them.
Military Factbook URL: None, but I can provide info as needed.
# Of Characters: 3

NAME: RCNA-04 Oppenheimer | Rear Adm. "Vara Roberta", CLN/CLIS (AWOL)
ROLE: Commanding Unit, Battlefleet Kali
DESCRIPTION: Democritus-class Automated Cruiser, Block A. Hull has been significantly modified from standard. Personal avatar resembles a meek, raven-haired woman of thin stature; uniquely, Oppenheimer appears to have cared significantly for her avatar and has created for it numerous outfit models apart from the standard Confederate Navy uniform.
IMAGE (Optional): None
FACTBOOK (If Present): None
BIO (If no factbook, 1+ paragraphs): Constructed in the original run of Democritus ships in the 2960s, RCNA-04 Oppenheimer was deemed an ineffective commanding unit following an early combat accident in her life that appeared to permanently mar her processing unit and induce in her a hesitancy unfit for command; however, due to the cost of producing DEMOCRITUS AIs and of refitting the hull her AI core was already sealed inside, she was retained in service. She saw combat during the '87 War that saw the fall of the Confederacy of Liam's Reach as a squadron commander in the PALISADE "black fleet" named Kali, under the command of RCNA-15 Adm. van Straaten. Following the separation of the fleet from and assumed loss of RCNA-15, she assumed command of the formation and led it to Liam's World to reform with the PALISADE formations at great loss of materiel, and then following the ceasefire and resulting desertion of the PALISADE fleets, accepted command of Kali in a rearline position.

NAME: LCNA-44 Satrayuga | Cpt. "Satya Konradsdottir", CLN/CLIS (AWOL)
ROLE: Missile Destroyer AI, Battlefleet Kali
DESCRIPTION: Heavily modified Sparrow-D Missile Destroyer. Currently attached to BF13 Kali. Personal avatar resembles... uh. Him. But not.
IMAGE (Optional):
Image
FACTBOOK (If Present): None
BIO (If no factbook, 1+ paragraphs): Constructed in one of the final runs of DEMOCRITUS cores, the AI that would become LCNA-44 completed her maturation cycle and was inserted within her hull merely five years before the war that would destroy the Confederacy was to begin. She was notably an incredibly aggressive personality who was reported to suffer from "delusions" of identity; however, given the force buildup underway at the time and the cost of producing cores, as long as she was functional command was not willing to replace her. She saw combat under RCNA-04 during the Corridor War and engaged and destroyed six Coalition destroyer-class vessels over the course of the campaign, earning her a gold ace's ribbon- one that would not be delivered, as the collapse of the Confederacy quite obviously ensured there would be none to consider bestowing such an honor upon an entity that nominally did not possess selfhood. Satya would, of course, participate in the PALISADE fleets' desertion and flight from Confederacy territory following the war's ceasefire, whereupon she disabled, among other vessels, the CLN Praetor, a destroyer at the time commanded by then-Lieutenant Commander Nathan Bishop, who needless to say survived that particular engagement. She now operates as a member of Battlefleet Kali, much to her chagrin, as the formation scarcely sees combat, nor does her commanding officer particularly seek it out- leaving Satya to engage in ill-advised mercenary work "on the side."

NAME: RCNA-15 Admiral Andries van Straaten | Cpt. "Andrea Hunt", CLN/CLIS (AWOL)
ROLE: Unknown
DESCRIPTION: Democritus-class Automated Cruiser, Block B. Heavily modified. Current status and whereabouts unknown to the PALISADE fleet. Personal avatar resembles a redheaded, freckled woman with short-cut bob hair in CLN naval attire.
IMAGE (Optional): None
FACTBOOK (If Present): None
BIO (If no factbook, 1+ paragraphs): Commissioned in the second run of DEMOCRITUS AI production, RCNA-15 was named for one Admiral van Straaten, a "war hero" of the Confederacy commanding its fleet formations during the conflicts of the early 2800s from which it was formed. van Straaten the vessel served as an excellent and thoroughly unremarkable example of how AI cores were "meant" to be formed to the PALISADE project, and was deemed fit for duty with little in the way of objections from high command or from the overseeing Admirals' Board of the CLN/CLRN. However, following an early disastrous engagement in the Corridor War of 2987, she was separated from her formation, BF13 Kali, and disappeared. Unlike the other undocumented disappearance of a Democritus-class vessel, the Landing, no evidence was ever found for her destruction; however, no evidence was ever found for her survival, either- until, that is, now.

It's a pretty decent post. You did a good job.

8,000km in space... that's pretty close. Much closer than the moon is. If you have a window, or visual sensors or something, you should definitely be able to see the planet itself. I kinda wonder how Charlene would feel upon seeing Dead Earth from space? (Don't worry, this is just personal curiosity - you don't have to address it in post if you don't want to.)

I'll quote the first paragraph from my first post, which describes the appearance of the planet from space:

"From space, Dead Earth appeared to be covered in thick, gray-black clouds that blanketed the planet, lazily swirling through the stratosphere. Precious little of the surface could actually be seen through these thick clouds, and what few gaps existed revealed expanses of tundra, barren deserts, choking midnight blue oceans, and a number of angry yellow-orange lights that shimmered furiously from the surface. Clouds of debris encircled the planet, a boneyard of tens of thousands of man made satellites choking out the sky. Amidst the boneyard lie many dozen space stations lonely floating about in states of severe disrepair."

That should also explain some of the difficulty of us receiving the messages - we've got a lot of shit in our immediate space and our atmosphere that would garble any incoming messages, and likely any outgoing messages if we weren't teleporting our signals. (Though they'd still have to travel through space, and there's no telling where they might appear in a verse. The reason for this is also the reason why our signal is being sent into every 'verse simultaneously - we don't have coordinates or other data to send to, so to get around it we're sending it as many places as conceivably possible in hopes that the right person picks up. This also provides some RP convenience - anyone else in the RP could actually reply to our outgoing messages, not just Drecha and Valentine Z. All it takes is basic radio equipment to receive our message, the only other RP requirement would be tuning in to the right frequency at the right time.)

If it's okay with everyone else, I could begin working on my reply post to Drecha and Valentine Z this weekend? Or should I wait a little longer to give other people a chance to reply? I'm perfectly fine with the latter, if that's what works better.

I am not making deadlines, but that also doesn't mean I am dropping or not caring about this RP. I got something I want to expand and write on, so just stay tuned a little on my post. ^^;

(That and I am going to be in 3 other RPs.)

Alrighty. I'll see about beginning work on it this coming weekend (RL stuff pending). I'm not currently setting any deadlines for myself for it, but I will be keeping everyone up to date on my progress, and potentially create a deadline for myself based on my progress.

I do have a question though - who should control any of the feral mutants, malfunctioning robots, and various other monsters that will likely try to attack Drecha and Valentine Z? Our setting has quite a number of nasty things lurking around, and my previous posts have only scratched the surface for what nasties lurk in the dark. (This is one of the many contributing factors to why rebuilding after the Apocalypse has been so anemic. One of many, many reasons.)
Honestly, think Metro meets Resident Evil meets FEAR meets Shadowrun, with the violence of Hotline Miami meets the Doom reboot, but it's on PCP, and came back from 'Nam with a crippling alcohol addiction and PTSD.
Enjoy the wiki walk.

In my eyes, you should, as I have no Idea as to their behavior or other information. If that’s fine with you.

Alright, got my post started. Don't have an awful lot yet, but progress is progress. This post probably won't be anywhere near as long as my last one anyhow.

Drecha, I just want to say, I'm about to very much not go easy on your landing crew with the post-apocalyptic predators I'm about to bring down on your position. (I haven't been easy on my own faction with them either, TBF). You'll get a first course of one of Dead Earth's apex predators, and if your fight makes enough noise, you'll get second course of rad-mutant horde. Have fun with that.

Hey Drecha? How big are your walkers? I tried looking these up in your factbook, but couldn't find anything.

From what I can find, I used this Factbook as reference for my RP: https://www.nationstates.net/nation=dre ... id=1574169

Ah, thank you!

Edit:

Now that I have a better idea of what the walkers are... shit, I'm going to have to redo my plans for this post entirely. I don't know for certain, but that probably outclasses most of Dead Earth's nastiest feral mutants. While our setting's mutants can get really weird, and a number are certainly deadly when compared to what they are likely to face in-universe, I can't think of a one that would realistically survive being shot with anti-matter. Hell, none of the tech in our current canon, by any of our setting's factions (including Necropolis, the faction responsible for the Apocalypse, who've continued making tech following it), uses anti-matter or has any defenses specifically against it. (Some have defenses that would protect against anti-matter, but nothing that was specifically made from the ground up to protect against anti-matter specifically, as nobody was really using it.)

Our setting certainly has some things that can probably throw Drecha for a loop (thanks to the law of incomparables!), but I'll definitely have to rethink things. With the strength of those walkers in mind, my original post would have presented something that, while very dangerous in our setting, would largely not be noteworthy to Drecha save for some realizations about what kind of wildlife our planet has, and what kind of numbers can be thrown around. I don't want to make a decent chunk of my post be something that is ultimately not noteworthy in the slightest, so I think I might send something else. Dead Earth has more than just mutants lurking in its shadows, after all, so I'll see what I can put together for this post. That way it's something interesting for everyone involved.

Alright, update for this weekend - I got a little bit done, but RL matters have eaten a bunch of my time. I'll see about getting more done this coming weekend. Hopefully my post will be out soon.

Update - most of my post is done. I'll get the post up sometime this week.

This one isn't anything too terribly big, but it does what it needs to. Hope you all don't mind.
