OOC Thread

Dreadfort Bay, Dreadfort Isles,
Craxx Archipelago Region.

The Dreadfort Bay had been of interest to the Ordenite Reich in relation to its own colony for quite some time. The bay which seperated the Draxxad and Retrinhes islands was deemed a vital choke point and avenue of maritime trade that the Ordenite government were keen to likely bring under their control. Due to the amount of other nations some even from Dienstad who were or had begun making claims of their own in the Craxx region, the Ordenites decided that they were to act on their ambitions. Previous ISR probes into the islands in the Dreadfort Bay showed signs of civilization however it was noted by the Ordenite Abwehr that the indeginious on the islands poised no significant threat to amphibious landings.

A Joint Task Force of the Kriegsmarine and the Heer was organized for the taking of these islands. This JTF would be comprised of elements of the 86th Flotille which included a Carrier Kampfgruppe, a Surface Kampfgruppe and a Expeditionary Kampfgruppe. A total of 54 vessels would be involved in the operation to seize the islands along with a Seabattalion regiment, who were essentially the Kriegsmarine's Naval Infantry and would initiate first contact and take the islands. A naval aviation contigent of 90 fixed wing and rotary aircraft from the Carrier Kampfgruppe's single Aircraft Carrier would carry out air supremacy and air lift operations in the local airspace. The Ordenite Heer would pledge a Division worth of troops to the Task Force and would become the garrison force for the islands once captured fully.

The operation would begin in the dead of night as the Joint Task Force came within operational distance from the islands themselves. A single Naval AWAC was already flying high above the islands as Typhoon-C Multi Role fighters took off from the KMS 'Wilhelm' Aircraft Carrier and began entering the airspace above the small island chain. The Kriegsmarine contigent of 54 vessels began to snake there away about the sea around the islands while the Aircraft Carrier and its escorts maintained a distance from them. The decision was made to begin the amphibious landings of the Seebattalion on the smaller islands before eventually going for the larger one. The Expeditionary Kampfgruppe began deploying some of its Amphibious assault ships as they moved towards the smaller islands.

Once within operational distance the ships began to deploy their contigents of Seebattalion who rode out on Amphibious APCs directly onto the shores of the smaller islands simultaneously. In little time over a company's worth of Seebattalion were landed on 3 of the 5 islands situated in the Dreadfort Bay. There were little to no signs of life on the islands they landed on and after further reconnasaince of the bigger island it was found that encampments were situated primarily there. Once situated where they were among the islands, rudimentry landing pads were made for rotary craft to land on. One such SVTOL helicopter did land only to pick up a platoon of Seebattalion as the helicopter then took off and hovered above the smallest island that was closest to the biggest one and landed the platoon to secure it.

The Admiral leading the JTF was then briefed on the success of the operation so far and cooridnated with the Seebattalion commander of the Regiment to carry out the seizure of the final island.

Screaming in the Night
MPA Flight Оскар, 500 km SW of Fort Mokosh
01:09 hours
Dreadfort Bay

The Ordenite aggression so close to Cossack claims in Draxadd did not go unnoticed. First, the incessant patrols of the two Vydets’ AEW aircraft clued into Ordenite operations through signals intelligence, then after actually travelling over with a combat air patrol detected dozens of naval signatures before turning away, some four-hundred kilometers away from them. Then, after Fort Mokosh had been put at alert (for the fourth time that week) and various aircraft readied, a single Kinnota KB-14 lifted off from the expansive airfields in the twilight.

Sotnik Sava Datsenko, almost swinging between the aircraft’s bulkheads to steady herself, let her co-pilot do the flying for now. As for herself, she wanted to check on the mission team, ensure that any problems could be spotted before it was too late, and finally, grab herself a cup from the rickety, coarse-grained coffee machine beyond its mechanical sell-by date she had nicked for their own use.

It was a late mission-- but it was not something they were not used to. As the crew of a maritime patrol aircraft, they seemingly had the most active yet unexciting position in the entire Air Force-- constant patrols in search of some things that might not even be there.

But this was different. Instead of routine anti-submarine and surface patrols, they had been redirected to perform an identification pass on a massive buildup of potential military targets in the Dreadfort Bay. Flights of PkV-17 and PkV-21 saw them off but did not travel out into the sea, leaving Flight Оскар to fly alone.

They would travel to the nearest naval cluster of this unknown and ask them to identify themselves-- not entirely a necessary operation, since satellite surveillance could probably put two and two together, but assumptions were not the bread and butter of military methodology.

Soon, aircraft came into range of their radar, travelling far more quickly than herself in the propellor-driven KB-14.

“Unidentified craft, this is a Cossack military aircraft. Identify yourselves.”

When The Smoke Is Going Down
Fort Bojchenko
01:09 hours
Draxadd Unincorporated Territories

A small stretch of freshly-paved road in a clearing served as their runway. Fort Bojchenko did not apologize afterwards for the apparent primitiveness of its infrastructure, instead presenting them with thrown-together housing that made factory work in the FRCP look pleasant. Airlifted over by two Pr-33, Captain Shcherbyna of the 131th Mechanized Plastun arrived in time to be reorganized under the 43rd Combined Arms Regiment under Voiskovy Starshyna Ilchuk.

Shcherbyna, through the dim lighting, appeared to be just like every other young soldier disembarking from the craft-- but that was not true. Scherbyna was far older-- far more experienced than the standard Captain and not entirely upwardly mobile; thus he was deemed by his superiors and inferiors alike to be unambitious and sedentary. These words had little effect on the man-- nearing forty-years old, his self-image had largely settled. Besides, he had familial tradition to uphold: his father and his father’s father had all served in the Cossack military and pursued no other career and Captain Denys Shcherbyna would be no exception.

Shcherbyna quickly rallied his troops off the runway with their equipment and took a moment to converse with his HQ menshyy plastun on what he needed done-- signal the Voiskovy Starshyna of their arrival; arrange for the plastun’s accommodation; and quickly integrate their troops with those of the Regiment.

Shcherbyna was in command of hundreds of soldiers, a small tank formation, infantry fighting vehicles, and even an air defense menshyy plastun-- all of which had seen combat in Draxadd already save for the latter. The squatters were difficult to find, but hardly presented much of a challenge after sufficient reconnaissance. However, Shcherbyna failed to see why a regiment needed to be amassed to fight the disparate insurgent, and only one other possibility existed in his mind, though the self-regulation of his thoughts did not allow for the dwelling on it.

Weiss Helm
FRCP Capitol Complex
14:03 hours, CESTZ
Sevyich, FRCP

The world would be watching.

Vladimir Bezkuhov has followed down the narrow staircase by a wardrobe of stiff, old men in uniforms-- what made up the military leadership save for the Chairman of the DoW, who was in contrast far younger and a woman. The brass that followed him like ducklings were very much like their surroundings; some coldly decorated concrete bunker several meters underneath the Capitol Complex and only pulled out and dusted off when needed.

As the Principle Chairman, Bezukhov commonly had to compromise between what policies he wanted and those that would inevitably lead to a coup d’etat-- or worse, nuclear annihilation, which seemed more likely in context of the previous two decades of his administration. He remembered that well-- he was a fresh political advocate selected by his party to lead, mostly because they couldn’t agree on anyone else; he still had color in his hair then, as well as less achy of bones and far smoother of skin. Then came Craxx.

It seemed every conversation about the security of the FRCP always devolved into the same rut-- never did Bezukhov get a break from nuclear politics.

They’ve got a new propellant! That’ll render our missile obsolete! Wait until the Committee on National Security goes into recess, then we’ll talk about the research budget.

This country that wasn’t even on our maps yesterday might have gotten high-yield warheads on the black market! Let Cossack Intelligence handle it, or just let me know when the auction starts so we can outbid them.

They flew their planes-- And so on and so forth, condemn the regional power, respond with a show of force, muscle and posture through the lens of the state-owned media until the desired effect has been reached.

Bezukhov let a cloud of boredom and anticipation drift into his mind as he stepped out into the Situation Room, releasing the oak door to swing shut behind him, nearly nailing the Admiral-of-the-Fleet in the face. He didn’t expect this meeting to go any different than any of the others.

As if tipped off on his intimate thoughts, Hetman Rostov started off, “The Ordenite Reich has seized massive amounts of territory in the Archipelago! We cannot let this go without a response!”

Rubbing the dead hairs from his brow, Bezukhov responded, “I don’t see a problem here that would necessitate the Situation Room, gentlemen. Expand our claim in the territory to match theirs, if you wish-- or a strongly-worded censure can be dispatched, if that other option is not extreme enough.”

“Sir, the Reich won’t be deterred by mere words. They’re--”

“Blood-thirsty savages, brutes, I know, I know. But what do you suppose?”

Rostov was taken aback. “Well, we have to form a strong, unified policy to deal with the Reich now and in the future. I would start by not allowing any Reich expansion onto Draxadd. Keep them at arm’s length.”

It was then that the doors to the Situation Room creaked open, revealing Sara Lysiak creeping in. Bezukhov returned his attention to Rostov and nodded. “Do it-- inform the Department of Foreign Relations to give them the message. Now, any other concerns we need addressed while we’re down here?”

Lysiak took the change of subject to take a seat at the table, straightening out her uniform. Bezukhov, receiving no response from the other generals, focused on her, believing she had something to say. Lysiak was certainly the youngest in the room-- like Bezukhov twenty years ago, she had straight black hair. She had pulled it into a tight knot at the back of her head, as if a man’s chupryna at the back of her head, and had on her dress uniform from her service in the Cossack Army with all its decorations. Bezukhov had no doubt that if he were to go and the leadership of the government were shaken up, Lysiak would swap the uniform for a suit like he did.

“Chairman, you realize if you missed most of the meeting you really don’t have to pop in for the last bit of it?” Bezukhov said.

Lysiak looked up from her examination of her uniform, picking off the stray hair of a shorthair cat, and said, “My apologies for my tardiness, but I don’t consider the meeting over yet, sir.”

Bezukhov scoffed, a bemused look overtaking his countenance. “Oh?”

“Sir, as I’m certain my colleagues have hinted at, there is nothing about the Ordenite Reich that shows that they will stop at the Dreadfort Isles. The Isles are literal stepping stones into Draxadd. They would not have taken them unless they intended to push closer to the DUT. We must show that they cannot lay their hands on Draxadd.”

Seeing Rostov shuffle in his seat, Bezukhov nodded for him to speak up. “Chairman Lysiak, we have already established that. We’ll take action to deter their--”

“What action?” Lysiak interrupted.

“Diplomatic reprimands and a show of force.” Rostov sputtered.

“So, words and pyrotechnics?” Lysiak said. Doubling down, she went on, “If anything, we must preempt any aggression, not have idle words and displays. The Reich is going to ignore our advances and expand anyways, and before we know it, we’ll have a whole corps of Ordenite troops bearing down on our forces-- all because it’s in their nature.”

“Then what do you propose, Chairman Lysiak?” Bezukhov asked. He subtly enjoyed the flustered mutterings of Rostov as she spoke.

Tovarisch Principle Chairman-- I can suggest no better option than to put our nuclear forces on alert. Fort Mokosh is a nuclear base, and we can’t forget that. We also shouldn’t let them forget that. Any assault on it could mean a prelude to a first-strike situation, to which our retaliation would be significantly weakened when an important air base such as that is lost. As well as that, we must be prepared to fight off anything that comes near the shores of Draxadd. Put all our forces there on alert, as well as reinforcing them before anything happens.”

“I see,” Bezukhov said. Though she was belligerent to other generals and had the conduct of an uryadnik instead of someone of her position, Vadimir trusted Lysiak’s input. “Hetman Rostov, please take the Chairman’s advice into consideration. We’ll do that.”

Standing up out of the chair with a grating scrape, Bezukhov stretched for a moment. “Now, if we don’t have anything else to decide, I seem to have missed lunch when I was flown in for this meeting.”

Federal Republic Department of Foreign Relations

To: Unknown Envoy of the Craxx Archipelago holdings of the Ordenite Reich
From: Afanasij Voloshyn, Ambassador of the FRCP

Greetings,

The Federal Republic appreciates another stable nation in the otherwise anarchic Craxx Archipelago, but it currently can do no less than express its complete and utter discontent with the recent expansion of the Ordenite Reich over the Dreadfort Isles. This is because it would be injurious to international trade due to the islands’ positions across the Dreadfort Bay between Retrinhes and Draxadd; unhindered trade, being one of the main foreign policy focuses of the Federal Republic of Cossack Peoples, means that if the Reich is to maintain control of those territories, that strict boundaries on the territorial waters of these islands would need to be imposed so as to allow passages of international waters for vessels to travel through, in addition to the Ordenite Reich’s guarantee of no unjust tolls upon trade lest they use their facilities.

Not only does my government’s discontent stem from concerns of trade, but also on a far more grim subject. It should be said that the FRCP will not take kindly to any Ordenite expansion onto the island of Draxadd, and if there were any, the FRCP would take it as the gravest offense. Fort Mokosh, keystone of the Draxadd Unincorporated Territories (the FRCP’s overseas dependency), is first and foremost a component of the nuclear deterrence strategy the Federal Republic has created-- any threat to this base or its surrounding territory (namely, expansion that threatens its security) would be regarded as an attempt to undermine the credible deterrence of the FRCP as a whole, prompting full nuclear and conventional retaliation. The Principle Chairman urges you not to assign the rest of the Earth to the dustbin of history like the Empire of the Craxx.

Know that these grim demands and attitudes toward your state’s expansion will quickly fall from our mind should you accede and seek closer diplomatic relations in these tense and dangerous times.

With regards,
_Afanasij Voloshyn____ Cossack Ambassador assigned to D.U.T.

Dreadfort Bay, Dreadfort Isles,
Craxx Archipelago Region.

The last island and the bigger one of the other 4 islands that made up the isles soon saw the landing of two companies of Seebattalion Naval Infantry riding on their ambibious APCs. They would swiftly come ashore and after securing a beachhead began to move in land towards the likely populated encampments. Upon arriving and making contact with the local inhabitants no resistance was given to them being there and the last island of the isles would be secured and the operation considered a success. Elsewhere further out at sea a lone aircraft identifying its self as 'Cossack Military' had flown near the Surface Kampfgruppe of the Joint Task Force operating within the Dreadfort Bay and requested them to identify themselves. The lead vessel of the Surface task force which was the Type-120 Ritter class Destroyer 'Konrad II' responded to the aircraft.

"Cossack military aircraft, this is Kriegsmarine ship Konrad II of the Ordenite Kriegsmarine operating within the Dreadfort Bay." This development was swiftly passed on to the commanding Admiral of the Joint Task Force as orders were relayed to proceed with operations at a more heightened level then before. Additional combat air patrols from the Wilhelm Type 110 Elbe class Aircraft Carrier were deployed as the Joint Task Force as a whole readied it's defenses and offenses in case the Cossack Military were considering challenging the Kriegsmarine in the Bay. However diplomacy would see to prevent a likely conflict from occurring as the FRCP correspondence reached the Foreign Affairs Office and a response was swiftly returned to them.

To:Afanasij Voloshyn, Ambassador of the FRCP.
Subject:Ordenite intentions in the Dreadfort Bay.

It is understandable that the Federal Republic is concerned with what the intentions of the Ordenite Reich is concerning the Dreadfort Bay and it's Isles. We can affirm to the Federal Republic that we do not intend on restricting maritime trade through the Dreadfort Bay nor do we intend to unjustly impose tolls upon maritime traffic going through the bay. Expansion onto the island of Draxxad is also not our intentions with the seizure of the Dreadfort isles and we wholeheartedly respect the sovereignty of the Federal Republic and it's claims on the island itself. Our intentions concerning the isles are to simply monitor maritime traffic and also allow the exploitation of the Bay's abundance of consumable aquatic life by Ordenite fishermen. We will however extend a warning of our own in that should the Federal Republic hamper Kriegsmarine or any Wehrmacht activity on or in the Isles and the Dreadfort Bay or seek to fire upon them that the Ordenite Reich and it's Wehrmacht will respond appropriately to ensure your destruction. However we fully intend to if the Federal Republic agrees, establish neutral and peaceful relations.

Sincerely signed,
NSPO Office of Foreign Affairs.
