Our current date is March of 2021, the location: The Mediterranean. Precisely a decade ago the powers of NATO, as authorised by various League of Nations resolutions made an attempt by force of arms to put an end to the then erupting Libyan Civil War. A civil war that began with the widespread protests at the misgovernment of Abdulrahman El-Said, then president for life of the Libyan Arab Republic. Protests which were subsequently destroyed in an orgy of brutality by the forces of President El-Said. Militias were raised in response, with the objective to depose El-Said's government with overt force. El-Said, now viewed as a tyrant using every means in the books to maintain his grip on the oil rich country ramped up the response with the creation of his own militias, raised with the aid of the Orussians in secret. The stage was now set for the bloodiest and most costly civil war in the twenty-first century.
In one months of combat, the previously developed and industrialised country of Libya was reduced to a wreckage, with cities, towns, oil terminals and airports completely devastated. President El-Said was eventually captured and killed by rebel forces on April 1st. The NATO interdiction against his forces ended another week later, having virtually ground them all into dust in one and a half months. What followed was half a year of virtual anarchy as NATO peacekeeping forces kept the representatives of the somewhat democratic Democratic Republic of Libya afloat in one end of the country, and El-Said's remaining loyalists holding court at the other end of the country. Meanwhile the secret Orussian aide kept pouring in.
By March 2019, while NATO was being kept busy by Sadera General Hosni Muammar El-Said, cousin of the deceased ex-president started plotting to restore the previous government in what he hoped to be a swift lightning campaign, preferably before NATO forces returned from Falmart. However, bungling incompetence and corruption on behalf of the wrecked bureaucracy and military structure he inherited delayed this by almost two years, quite enough time for his enemies to turn their gaze back onto him. Despite it all, on the 12th of March 2021, the flagship of the STANAVFORMED came under attack by Libyan forces, the signal for Hosni's so-called lightning campaign to begin.
The OOC-Story:
This is a scenario that Ostmark has been cooking on and off for the past half year or so, mostly coming from another one of my escapades in Global Conflict Blue II. As per usual, this is a modern World Witches universe set with NS nations. Still, the usual rules in and out of the thread applies.
