May liberty live on! (Legislature)

Postby Williams High School » Tue Apr 13, 2021 9:59 am

Earth, The center of humanity. Where countries ruled and powers like the US, China and Russia ruled supreme. But suddenly, it all collapsed. Riots, independence movements just sprang up and there were almost no functional government. After a couple of months, a couple of countries before ridiculed had grown to large sizes, though especially the US was the center of riots with only small counties in the US staying together as the cities were ruled by the will of the rioters. And though some may claim it as co-incidental, many will point out that it came only a month after Williams High School became independent.

Now, you are a citizens of Williams High School, having been there since the independence movement first arose. Now as the first legislative race begins to heat up, you are now an ambitious teen in this new nation surrounded by rioters everywhere. Who will you choose to side with? What will you claim? More importantly, will Williams survive?

Robert Benson stood up.
"I stand bedore this congress to look at a bill I wrote. Called the Civilian Defense act, this will recognize a militia to call upon if our current forces are not enough."

Wayne Marshall arrived at the legislature and took his seat, he was an independent senator, the only one in this legislature. With devisions between the parties becoming more apparent and seemingly unsolvable he hoped to position himself as a kingmaker. A person who might hold the balance of power, he was a pragmatist who felt he didn't fit in any party, he was a pacifist, yet he knew the necessity of war, an economic and social liberal, who didn't want unnecessary taxes. He wasn't an activist or very well known, but that was just the way he liked, an unknown behind the scenes person who defended Williams High School. Perhaps he could start his own party one day, but for now he had to focus on his work. As Robert Benson introduced his new bill Wayne Marshall stood to ask his questions "How would this militia work? Who would it involve? Can you give us some more details?"

"As it says in the bill, the militia will come into action if there s a larger riot and our forces in that given rea cannot hold it, we can call upon this militia. This would involve citizens who have passed the mental health test and people who can handle a AR-15 well."

"How do you know that they really passes the test? What if they bought their way out. Why not insteadkeep our military down beow and ocuse on other things."

"What would they buy out of. And we will know because there will be multiple people on standby. And keeping our military down is a fool's though. Now there are rioters who keep wanting to kill us. We cannot afford to relax in our defense!"

"I do mean "we" as in the legislature. And this will not be all citizens. This will be of volunteers to have a volunteer militia."

Reynolds interrupts the conversation.
"I agree a militia is needed for defence purposes, but I believe it should be used only for us. We should not send them into nearby territories, unless it is to assist an ally. This would leave us undefended from riots ourselves."

"That is the point. In the case that our troops are securing more living space, these brave men and women would protect us."

Wayne Marshall without any other questions stands "I think we should take your proposal to a vote, I vote Aye."
