The nation of Alyxandreta had existed in one shape or form for over nearly two thousand years. Within it;s own borders lay several 'micro-nations' or nation states that formed part of this republic. This glorious nation had enjoyed great prosperity but also moments of great tragedy, famine, war but never had the nation become so close to this.

It is June 27th 2011 and the time is 4:34 a.m.

The capital city of Alyxandreta was Alexandria, named after the nation's founder, Alexander The First, it was constantly changing, skyscrapers stood next to thousand year old buildings and cars drove past ancient monuments, a city truly one for all times.
In the heart of the city lay the federal parliament and the home of the nations president, Alexei Romanov, the ultimate reformist as many knew him, he had his fair share of enemies and many supporters but few truly trusted him as he and his family were once staunch supporters of the exiled Imperial family. He was dead.
The news networks were alerted by an insider working in the Presidential Palace, he had died of an apparent heart attack in the early hours of the morning, the rumour mill was already into overdrive claiming members of the far right Fascist party or the Christian Alliance had poisoned him, whilst others claimed members of Al-Saladin had infiltrated the palace and executed him, none were true, he was an old man and stress had taken its toll on him.
The Alyxandretan News Channel was the first to break the news, late night bars and insomniacs were the first to hear the reports.

"The President is dead. The president of Alyxandreta has died this morning after a sudden heart attack believed to have been caused by the increasing pressure from his own parliaments demands for greater power. Our thoughts are with his wife and his son who survive him. Premier Justin Sakho is now acting Head of State while the government attempts to organize elections which were due to take place this october"

The next day Justin Sakho was brutally shot while coming home from a party conference, the nation had seen two leaders die within the space of a couple of days, this led the secretary of defence, General Vladimir Bekha to assume control. He was a strict man, from the Bekhaera nation state who had earned his rank unlike many officers, his duty was to restore the nations pride and oversee the rebuilding of the nation ready for elections...


If only it was to be THAT easy....


July 1st 2011, the time is 17:12 p.m.

"Terrorist faction Al-Saladin have attacked the island colony of Sinapurum killing 251 innocent civilians, Alyxandretan military has been despatched to stop any further attacks but it seems a flawed plan as for years Al-Saladin has grown in strength and popularity with the colony and with the advent of Islam in this tiny nation, many have flocked to their radical preaching, especially the disheartened Sinai who feel the government has neglected them"

That was another broadcast from the ANC, Al-Saladin had taken first blood and now the Republic was at war but they weren't the only ones, to the far west of Alyxandreta, in the state of Carpanis, local communist guerillas overwhelmed the city of Carpanis' defences and claimed the entire state for themselves, several high profile Alyxandretan military personnel defected to their cause along with many legions and platoons causing a great shift in power in the nation.

The city of Juneau & Treno, twin jewels on the south-eastern coast were occupied by Government forces fearing terrorist or rebellious factions taking the port, but that wasn't as important as what the ANC told us all next,

"The states of Vangardia, Bechtanae, Khania, Drakia & Hyranaia have seen increased amounts of movement from rebel forces, reports indicate these forces to be the fascist national party, christina alliance & communists all vying to claim cities while the government forces are stretched out thinly, this news reporter fears for the very heart & soul of this nation as we descend into chaos and anarchy"

General Bekha did nothing, he was too busy trapped between bureaucracy & wanting to begin martial law but the parliament was too frightened that they would end up at the mercy of these rebels they argued constantly until an unlikely offer came his way.
The Alyxandretan monarchy still held great sway within parliament, although this was obviously hidden for fear of reprisals, when the monarchy was overthrown, countless thousands of soldiers and their families fled too, effectively a military in exile, they settled on the island of Cordoba.
In exchange for their aid they would have to meet with the prince in exile, Ryan Alexander and then they could begin to solve a once great nations madness. But even with the combined Royal & Republican forces they were still vastly outnumbered on all sides.

To the leaders of the free nations of the world, we, the heir in exile and the interim head of state of the republic of Alyxandreta implore you to meet with us at Cordoba Island on July 4th.

Our once great nation has begun to fall apart and we fear that without economic and military aid we shall return to the darkness from which there is no return. Our military is outstretched and our civilian population lives in fear of attacks or they join the ranks of these rebels, every day this goes and and the more we try and rectify this situation the greater the backlash is.
Our nation is a melting pot of cultures and as such we do from time to time experience strife but we are a single nation dedicated to the glory of creating a nation where even Alexander, our founder would admire.

So please, your urgent assistance is needed, we shall await all replies and offers. Please send ambassadors, delegates to Cordoba Island.

Every hour the news channels kept showing footage of rebel troop movements and of the lack of security the cities were getting from the military, all except Alexandria of course.

The Imperial troops who were the children of the Imperial troops forced out of exile were loyal to the King to the end and especially loyal to the prince as he was their commander in chief, they had never set foot in Alyxandreta before but the country, as deeply torn as it was they found it beautiful, the Imperials set about establishing a base of operations in the cities of Juneau & Treno, hoping to quickly move out and retake land and states that had seceded from the republic.

The ANC reported the Imperials arrival with aplomb, it was like Alexander himself had returned, the Imperials were impeccable compared to the shabby generic soldier look the Republican Guard had, yet many feared they were all style and no substance. That was until they retook the small military outpost seized by a platoon of the far right fascist party; Hyrlich.

But even with these men, the republic was edging towards complete civil war.

The Saartians would like to offer the protection of its Peacekeeping forces in the swift resolution of this conflict. We would like to ensure that innocent civilians and the nations logistical framework sees no harm through this transition, to protect the nation should its enemies sieze the opportunity to strike and to prevent the inevitable rise of crimes such as looting, piracy and terrorism. We also offer humanitarian aid under the protection of these Peacekeeping forces. The Saartians hope your nation can stabilize quickly and solidly.

Witnessing the desecration of stability in this nation, the risk put forth to Saartian peacekeeping forces and the Citizen population it is sworn to defend plans have been discussed to end this civil war before it becomes drawn out. With permission of the Alyxandreta High Command we would like to put into effect plans to cut off the head of the Communist uprising at Carpanis. Unfortunately further deployment to this region cannot be allowed over concerns of open theatres overseas, we will continue our peacekeeping operations as best we can to alleviate the strained Military.

At the Cordoba Conference the remaining members of parliament of whom didn't defect or 'retire' for fear of death all agreed to the aid given by Saartia. The combined might of the Saartian peacekeeping forces along with the combined Alyxandretan military should be enough to withstand future onslaught from rebel forces.

And with that the order was wired to the Saartians

"Your offer is accepted and you are for a go, please proceed with your mission and under your command we place 170 Alyxandretan marines detached from the defence of the capital, they are a precious commodity but ready for a fight.

For further information please contact his majesty & the general at Cordoba, we have given you co-ordinates for the nearest safe zone from which you may establish a base of operations. It is a small town to the north of Carpanis, it is called Oleander.

Praetorian Commander Jeremiah Clarke radios into Alyxandreta Command from Sinapurum, "We need a list of suspected terror cells operating in the area, as well as possible GPS coordinates of suspected villages and towns, over." As he says this a squad of 10 Praetorians move by him, carrying two Portable Anti-Air Missile Systems (FIM-95 "Viper"), three Anti-Tank Missile Systems (M72 "Orion"), and a particularly nasty looking Heavy Machine Gun (The M250 "Ravager" HMG.) The other four were carrying standard issue M20 "Devastator" Rifles.

"Alright boys! Time to suit up! I need forty of you for a suspected seek-and-destroy mission." Jeremiah says to his men.

Planning for the Operation Gendarmie was delicate, the Saartians needed to promote a humiliation for the Caparnic Communists to break the morale of other Communist cells, but consideration had to take care of the civilian casualties. The Saartians were peacekeepers first and liberators second. From the forward base of Oleander the Saartian Commando Division with the attached Alyxandretan Marines sat for the basic briefing. The Marines had been posted to the important objectives alongside the Saartians as guides to the Alyxandretan City of Caparnis, they would provide all the information not included in the spy sattelite voyuerism.

Operation Gendarmie

The time to strike was now, before Caparnis became the launching point for a greater incursion. It was dawn, the steely blue nights sky resting above the scarlet haze of a crowning star. The Bessant HV67 transport helicopters ran flanked by the HV72 Attack Helicopters. Beneath them, for now, was the slower convoy heading for the City, they were part of the secondary objectives enterring the city after the primary objectives of the forward Cavalry. The aircraft rushed ahead leaving the convoy behind.

Caparnis arrived quickly on the horizon, the large walls cornering the urban spread on the white and grey mountains. Advanced recon into the city would indicate the potential of a surprise attack, the unreadiness of the large volunteer force would allow the swift deployment of the first wave. The helicopters swopped in low over the foothills passing over wildlife and farmers as they finally reached the outskirts of the city just inside the walls and as close to the transport links as possible. The Commandoes had to deploy onto ground level quickly before the City Garrison had time to organize, the unit ran quickly down the drop lines and spread out to a protective formation awaiting the enemy gunfire.

Cordoba Island was a beautiful place, ruled by the Alyxandretan royal family in exile, it was a tiny island nation that was populated by exiled Alyxandretans and their families.

Here the Cordoba Conference was to begin, representatives from various nations and regions of Alyxandreta strived to end a civil war that was soon to take over all of the nation.

"My name is Helena Draskovic, I represent the Empire of New Chalcedon. I hope our countries may benefit from these talks and that stability be restore to your nation."

The prince and general shook her hand and along with the other delegates began to discuss how New Chalcedon could help Alyxandreta.

Carpanis was abuzz with anticipation, they expected an attack on the city but weren't sure of when. The civilians that sympathized with the Communists joined their ranks and were being instructed in the art of Guerilla warfare whilst those who did not were either forced to learn to exist with the new regime or work in the farmlands.

July 7th, 13:12 p.m.

The Attack Began. Saartian commandos led by their Alyxandretan allies launched an all out offensive on the walled city not knowing the full strength of their enemy, but that worked in their favour too as the communists had no idea of their numbers also.

Train links and roads were quickly destroyed and blocked off, ensuring the Communists were trapped.

The Alyxandretan tanks headed towards the city the guerillas fired, one blew up and was left a burning twisted mound of metal but undeterred they continued forward, the battle for Carpanis would not be lost so easily.

The island of Sinapurum was a shining beacon in the ocean, a mixture of Alyxandretan architecture, eastern culture and dense rain-forests, never was there somewhere that came straight out of myth.

But there was an ugly side to this island state.

Islam was a pretty much new religion to Alyxandreta, and had spread quickly throughout Sinapurum, displacing the Alyxandretan beliefs and the native ones too and with any religion there must be two forms, the radical and the passive. Unfortunately the radical form quickly took hold and of a population of 4 million , 75% of them adhere to Islam and many sympathize with the radical form.

It is here that Al-Saladin was formed, a terrorist organization that seeks independence from Alyxandreta or complete conversion to their extreme form of Islam, the passive islamist choose not to agree with the ir cousins and many have fled to mainland Alyxandreta, especially Drakia & Khania states in the northern plains.

The Praetorian Guard arrived in Sinapurum expecting heavy resistance, for days they did not get any, that was until 3 suicide bombers attacked several locations in the city centre, one being a hospital, another a police station and the third an Alyxandretan Pantheon.

Pitched battles now are the common sight and sounds heard in the city, neither side eats or sleeps it seems.

Rockets fired upwards taking out a substantial amount of Saartian airborne forces, the city was laid out perfect for the guerillas to see their enemy approaching in the distance and any air attack seemed futile.

The decaying walls of the city served only as a reminder of the city's past and served no defensive capabilities as the city had built outwards many centuries ago.

The Allied ground forces fared better, Alyxandretan marines entered the city and quickly began securing checkpoints allowing any airborne forces to land quickly, their allies also fared succesfully, pinned under heavy fire. they managed to secure a prominent Communist checkpoint and captured the Communist general Stanislav Volgardic, 3rd in command.

But this battle was far from over, the communists were not all rag tag fly by night soldiers, many of them experienced combatants, whenever an Allied force took a part of the city, they would deal out twice as much punishment onto the Allies.

34 Alyxandretan marines died in combat, foolishly chasing down their enemies and were ambushed by guerillas. All were shot to pieces.

"War is hell, but we prepared for hell." Jeremiah remembers as he walks amongst the battlements where his comrades are waiting for the next Saladin attack. A mortar round blows up close by, but he doesn't even flinch (neither does the other Praetorians) Jeremiah takes out his radio and says, "I need 2,500 troops to set up positions in the eastern part of the city, we are going to push them out even if it kills everyone in this city!" As the troops amassed, Jeremiah calls for his best sniper/spotter team to go out and look for enemy weapons emplacements.

Code-named Seraph (the Sniper) and Wisp (the spotter) they head out stealthily into the city...

"Little do they know, but we were BORN for night-fighting." Jeremiah says, putting on his thermal goggles along with the rest of the Praetorians as some set up Ravager HMG's in the buildings overhead, Jeremiah whispers, "Fire on my mark." As he waits for the extremists to get closer, and closer, and closer. "MARK!"

Seraph and Wisp get closer and closer to their target, the Communication station. Wisp spots and points out some guards nearby the station, and Seraph steadies his rifle to fire.

Many buildings in the city were smoldering piles of rubble and bodies, the Al-saladin men quickly set about preparing for another onslaught tomorrow.

The echoing sound of over a hundred men praying to Allah resonated throughout the deserted streets, a complete and utter devotion to their god was never in doubt but their belief in an extremist form of such a great religion mocked its founding ideals.

The Islamic soldiers within the Alyxandretan ranks hated them because they represented the negativity of their faith and executing them was the only answer they would understand, reasoning with them was futile.

It led a group of three old T-64s and four BMD-2s, which in turn spearheaded a large formation of 850 soldiers that amassed shouting fanatically. More reinforcements awaited in the jungle. Sveral large-caliber mortars provided artillery support from the top of some hills.

The soldiers were mostly equipped with AK-47 rifles, as well as RPK machineguns and RPG-7 rocket launchers. However, some of them had some advanced equipment with them, including night vision goggles, FN2000 rifles, PG-7VR tandem warhead rockets and RPO FAE launchers. The tanks were equipped with flood lights, and would use their night vision equipment to designate targets for the infantry, as well as supporting the infantry themselves.

Colonel Zhtakov and General Falabi were overlooking the advance from one of the mortar emplacements, that was also equipped with a single Tetral SAM mount and a ZU-23-2 AA gun.

"Well, seems your soldiers are going to face a trained enemy." Zhtakov said, looking trough his binoculars.
"The plan has already been set up, I trust my instincts and your assistance. But most of all, my men" Falabi noted "After all, they are not weak imperialists who want to get involved in conflicts that aren't theirs. They will be strong" He said, then grabbed a radio and started giving orders to the soldiers below. The infantry covered behind the advance of its tanks and IFVs. "Contrary to you, Colonel, we fight for a greater cause"

As the tanks get ever nearer, the Praetorians ready their trap, men on the top of some rooftops arm and lock onto the tanks and IFV's. Praetorian snipers aim at officers in the ranks of the approaching radicals, and some Praetorian Infantry ready grenades. "On my mark" Jeremiah whispered,

Jeremiah presses a button on his arm which submits a synchronized "fire" order to all soldiers, twenty anti-tank gunners on top of the buildings let their missiles loose as snipers fire directly at radical officers, the two second cooked Marv IV "Inferno" Incendiary grenades are thrown at the masses of troops, and the Praetorian Guardsmen open fire at any exposed radicals.

I know, but I said that I sent 2,500 Praetorians to the East Side, but Jeremiah and his squad was somewhere else, probably the West or South Side. I am wondering about this because it can play heavily into how the battle occurs.

The conference was at a standstill, arguments between the parliamentary representatives, the pro monarchy representatives and republican delegates were causing problems.
without a valid constitution and leadership the country was on the verge of surrender and allowing the rebels to claim the states as nations and govern themselves, a 2000 year history ended by petty squabblees.

"This is my final offer gentleman, accept it or to hell with you all" Barked General Bekha, he was tired of all this nonsense, he and the prince had seen eye to eye throughout this conference and they had witnessed how much influence the Parliament had and they strived to change that as they were greedy.

"The general & I have decided , parliament is to be dissolved. We will create a new cabinet that for the time being will operate from here and govern the remaining territories loyal to us" the prince chimed in, the faces of the parliamentarians were ashen white, they had not expected this at all, one member retorted quickly

"You can't do this, you're not the head of state!"

"Oh on the contrary, the majority of the Royal constitution was kept even after the revolution as it was deemed near perfect, and one excerpt claims 'the current monarch has the right to dissolve parliament" and as my father never relinquished his title, this law is still valuid. Good day to you gentleman, we have a country to rebuild"

ooc: well jeremiah and his troops would have to have come from the SOUTH and headed eastwards then towards their main stronghold within the city limits. the bulk of al-saladin guerillas are situated in the east and north with a minority of them scattered across west and southern quarters as allied troops are based in the south and are primarily fighting in the west (apart from praetorian troops).
