The Emergency War Fund, the same one that the Free Corps’ General Staff had been saving, even as Brunies fell, would be the money used to fund two mercenary pilots: “Achilles” and “Patroclus”, the former from FATO itself, the latter, from Nordennavic. Their cultural differences would likely not matter at all, thought the General Staff, as whatever differences they had, would have to be put aside, as they were now part of the same side, fighting for one, and only one goal: the liberation of the Homeland from the Belkan war machine, the same one that was ravaging from North Osea, to Western FATO itself.

The hastily-made air base’s mechanics had just finished repairing and resupplying two MiG-21’s, just as both pilots left the also jerry-rigged briefing room, with only one mission: provide targeted air support for the Free Corps on the ground. “Achilles” saw this as a break from the busy city life that he had lived prior to the war, and from seeing Belka’s ground forces themselves, while “Patroclus”, who had heard stories from his mates in the Nordennavic Royal Air Force’s Grendel Squadron, was a bit more wary of the entire operation that the General Staff had planned for them. Who knows if it could result in them suffering unforeseen consequences, ranking from them ending up being captured by the Belkans, to them dying before they even take off?

Sadly for the poor mercenary, the war would move on, whether he wanted it or not. And if he wanted to put a stop to this pointless conflict… well, he’d have to partake in it, regardless of whether he liked it or not. And if it meant taking the side of the liberators… so be it.

Meanwhile, back in the frontlines…

It’s only been a couple of days for the crew of the “Liberté” SPG, one of the five that had been deployed to the Belka-FATO frontline, and it has already devolved into a mix of emotions that no normal being should ever experience: from the loader’s severe depression mixed with shellshock, to a maddened, borderline insane, laughter streak from the gunner, who seemed to be enjoying bombing these “damn Belkans”. And yet, the assaults seemed to never end, and thus, the 155mm cannon that their vehicle used wouldn’t cease firing. Hell, some would argue, that if that gun ceased firing, not only their deaths, but the capitulation of all of FATO, would not just be a nightmare, but a reality. A reality that would not come to be, if they kept doing their job as well as they could.

“When are we getting help?”, was the crew’s question, as time seemed to come to a halt for them. Luckily for them, that question would be answered in due time.

Osean-Belkan Front

Despite intercepted transmissions repeatedly saying that the OGDF was forced into a trench stalemate by the 'mighty' Belkan Army, this information was incorrect. The ODF were still very much a mobile army. In fact, they still had various Tank divisions heading to launch the biggest counterattack in Osean history. With tanks from every division charging head-on supported by a horde of helicopters loading light infantry, and APCs alongside IFVs ferrying squads of infantry accompanying them. With these forces, the ODF had only one objective. The complete destruction of Belkan forces occupying its Eastern areas.

A certain Vigilante One was leading his platoon, Vigilante Platoon, to launch this counterattack. The tank he was on was a rather large tank, supported by large numbers of its brothers. They would begin their spearhead assault against the Belkan military alongside battalions of infantry, carried in either transport helicopters or IFVs. To say it was a glorious sight would be an understatement. Osea had no tolerance for occupation, as it was a militaristic republic with a very patriotic population. So why would the men serving it disappoint them? Well, that'd be treason, so there's no answer to that.

Vigilante One could only smile as he saw the first Belkan target, entrenched, believing he'd be safe. He's dead wrong.

"OPEN FIRE!"

The command echoed to the rest of the tank groups, who opened fire on the move at the Belkans, with no regard for who dies or who lives, only that Belka would be pushed out of their glorious country.

Solara Squadron immediately went to work, scattering around the battlefield and hunting for Belkan forces. Once Solara Squadron would find a Belkan unit, they would immediately get to work opening fire on it. The Apaches spreading out meant that getting a lock on them wasn't going to be easy as they barrel-rolled their way into finding more targets. The Federation had an amazing air force, and it shows. At least, for now, with these Apaches. The real lads are going to be arriving sooner or later to destroy those damned Belkans. Long live Osea!

Skies over the FATO-Belka Frontline

The war was being fought with all kinds of planes: from the sleek F-22's that were contesting the skies, to the heavier C-130 Hercules that was transporting the very troops that were contesting the ground. So it wasn't much of a surprise that both Achilles and Patroclus thought that their planes were from the completely wrong war, and, to be fair, they weren't wrong: MiG-21's? In 2020? This must've been a mistake, but, alas, considering FATO's current situation, it was probably the only planes that were left from the nearly in shambles FATO Air Force, the same one that had mostly died in the many faithful, but sadly uncontrollable fights fought with incompetent pilots from FATO's side between both enemy nations.

As both Fishbeds got up in the air, a voice came from the radio systems:
<< This is AWACS Montepellier, I will be taking command of the Myrmidon Team. Your orders will be to provide air support to our troops down there. The skies seem to be clear today, with no Belkans up in the air to intervene against us. Permission to use your weapons against them. >>

Achilles was unfortunately mute, but he could always rely on non-verbal communication forms, such as quickly rolling his Fishbed left and right to agree, something that, while it could cause a crash between his and his wingman's planes, was rather unlikely, given that both were apart from eachother by just enough to not cause a crash, but also enough so that Achilles could maneuver to tell Patroclus what to do. And it would be here when he'd pitch the plane slightly down, as a way to tell his mate to begin reducing his altitude, since they were about to engage the enemy with their 2-per-plane S24-filled rocket pods, and their 200-round autocannons.

It was glorious, from both perspectives, but especially from the ground. Seeing the MiG-21's doing rocket and gun runs on the Belkans down below was recomforting for the Free Corps, as it told them that now, they weren't alone in their fight, their fight for the freedom of their homeland, FATO. The shelling of the Belkans that had gone on for days, were now accompanied of the 23mm bullets and 24cm rockets doing their effects on, not just the grunts themselves, but on whatever vehicles they could damage.

Patroclus couldn't help but laugh on the intercom, as he saw his rockets explode upon patches of ground, close to where the "filthy Belkans" were. Even though he was normally a pacifist, he couldn't avoid finding joy, as his current enemies were being harassed by his own weaponry. And, to be honest, who could blame him? Seeing some dents, as small as they may be, being done on the Belkan Ground Forces was satisfying. Not just to the grunts on the ground, but also to both Myrmidons.
