Resistance quotient of the Telviran fleet was higher than Captain Remilliod had expected. Despite the seamless cooperation between fatbeams, point-defense lasers and flak cannons, the second salvo of capital missiles actually penetrated Misanthropy's armor in several places, exploding the thin air - as well as several unfortunate crewmembers - inside into space. Combat AIs reported several major fractures in the frontal shield, all the while the combat wasps were being shot down like... like wasps. Despite the severity of the space battle raging outside, the irony in this did not escape the Captain.

On his orders, Misanthropy emptied her bowels (urk!), launching 400 more combat wasps as well as 100 larger and heavier "combat hornets", which carried hypervelocity kinetic impactors and corrosive bombs filled with armor-eating nanobots. As these war drones began approaching the Telviran fleet, Misanthropy ceased firing with flak cannons and fatbeams. Instead, the majority of her combat battery's output went into her most powerful long-range weapon - the "spatial artillery cannon". Situated at the very the top of the frontal shield, this weapon ran through the entire lenght of the superfreighter, and now its numerous magnetic coils consumed enormous amounts of energy, enough to power the entire industry of some smaller planets for years.

The entire hull of Misanthropy quaked as the matter-antimatter implosion shell was propelled into high relativistic velocity and hurled towards the hostile ships through the cold space, now nearly frozen in time due to relativistic dilation. Among the oldest rules in space combat was that relativistic weapons were a true nightmare to those on the receiving end: by the time you noticed you were under attack, there was very little you could actually do.

Let's see how you're going to deal with this, Telvirans, Captain Remilliod thought.
God was a dream of good government.

ooc: this is open

meanwhile, not too far away, the battleship miazaki of the nerv combined fleet picked up signs of a small conflict near a small planet, it spooled its wormhole drive up and it disappeared from its patrol path, it reappeared near the fighting, it sent a message

"this is the nerv ship miazaki, we are here to retain the sovereignty, DO NOT attempt to resist, this planet is on the border of nerv space and falls under our protected planet protocol, do not attempt to resist, or you will suffer great losses"

the ship immediately armed its weapon systems but remained out of the fighting for now

OOC-OK, post-by-post reply begin

IC-The PD continued to engage the drones, and now Takin ordered a few CMs fired into the mass of oncoming drones, hoping to take out massed bunches of them. Then the relativistic attack hit an Abruzzi straight on, replacing it with glowing dust. "Fucking hell!" exclaimed Takin. "What the fuck was that?! I don't care--" he continued, cutting off an ensign who was about to state the obvious. "Continue firing. And open a channel to that new arrival."

To the Miazaki
You seemed perfectly willing to allow this planet to defend itself when we arrived. This planet is now ours by right of conquest.

((/post-by-post reply))
Another salvo of CMs flashed out from the armada, another 250. The armada was now about halfway through it's missiles, and Takin was getting concerned about running out of ammo. The flechette missile launchers were at around 40% ammo remaining, and the hetlasers were in danger of overheating. "Send a message to STANAVCOM (Star Navy Command). Tell them the situation and inform them we will need reinforcements. Maybe a pair of monitors."

Meanwhile, the F4s were now in range for FRAMs. Each F4 carried four FRAMs, and 150 of them were loaded with them. A total of 600 anti-matter armed missiles were launched at the Star Destroyer within the space of 2 minutes. Then those fighters turned back and went to re-arm, while the remaining 150 F4s moved to engage the Star Republic fighters.

Another ship? those parts of Captain Remilliod's mind that were currently active were unable to experience any true emotions, but the closest thing they now felt was genuine surprise... and then, something akin to triumph. Excellent. This ensures our victory!

Once again, Misanthropy's comm-laser was re-aligned towards this newest ship:

"This is the Arkship Misanthropy of the Interstellar Trading Clan Remilliod. As you can see, we are doing our best in order to liberate this star system, which has been taken over by the barbaric forces of the Solar Empire of Telvira. We, as independet traders, arrived only recently and, to our horror, found this beautiful planet completely devastated and its people, those joyful and intelligent Ventriites, enslaved by these murdering beasts. Help us liberate this world, friends, and the only thing we will ask in return are temporary mining rights to the Beryllium deposits near the Southern Pole.

Yours, sincerely:
Captain Remilliod

sir, im getting a primitive comms laser signal,"
the commander looked at the text on the screen
"okay, tell them we have the situation under control, also tell them that they have our support ,as for the solar empire, they asked for it, prepare to fire upon there main ship, launch all hellfire and jumper wings, fire upon the enemy with the grand collapse cannons on my mark"
orders where shouted into communicators, the first hellfire wing launched, its engines giving of an ominous blue light as they flew, the hailstorm assault launchers ready, the N2 OOF drone rockets where ready, then the jumpers launched, a huge swarm of small cylinder shaped ships exited launch tunnels on the bottom of the miazaki, then the miazaki maneuvered into a broadside position, the turrets and hull mounted grand collapse cannons ready,on target,
"ill give them one more chance"
you have been warned, i give you one chance, leave now!

OOC-I appreciate the participation, but I would like it if I did not get curbed stomped in my first major FT RP. This goes for everybody. Thanks!

IC-"Open fire." The first salvo against the Miazaki, 340 CMs, streaked from their launchers and headed towards the NERV ship. Then the reserve 300 fighters, half armed with FM3s and half armed with FRAMs, launched, as did another 150 F4s re-armed with FM3s. The 450 F4s armed with FM3s moved to engage the appraoching fighters, while the 150 F4s armed with FRAMs streaked in to hit the Miazaki with their deadly cargo.

"sir we have, a few small fighter wings headed our way"
"activate the sea of Dirac skin, and turn off the shields, lets give them some hope"

the nerv ship flashed blue then it turned a dark gray, as something that looked like a shadow enveloped the ship, the ordinance flew straight into the shadow, they flew in , no explosions where heard, nothing, the ordinance had seemed to vanish, then the shadow shrank back to the emitter on the top of the ship, the blue flash repeated itself
"sir the sheilds are back online, SOD is fully contained"
"fire the collapse cannons, just fire the Zero point ordinance lets see how they can fare to our light anti ship ordinance on they're shields, and deal with the fighters"

all the guns on the miazaki fired, some shooting scatter plasma, some shooting seemingly small glowing objects, all the fire headed towards the solar empires ships

IC-"Concentrate on those objects. PD will destroy." The flechette missile launchers and hetlasers opened up on the small glowing objects, while the F4s armed with FRAMs now let loose, 600 anti-matter-armed missiles streaking at the Miazaki.

Meanwhile, in the nearest Solar Empire-controlled world, a pair of massive Magnificant-class monitors entered skip space and headed towards Ventree.

Onboard the Herald of Wrath
"Begin broadcast." Takin gave the fateful order, and suddenly the superfreighter, the Star Republic vessel, and the Miazaki were sent a single transmission. It went as such.

Attention Enemy Vessels
If you do not withdraw in two minutes, we will do two things. First, we will launch several Strategic Bombardment Missiles at five major beishalka population centers on Ventree. Also, we will execute the 500-something beishalka being held on our ships. Do not allow the blood of this world to cover your hands. Withdraw now.
[Several shots of rows of beishalka, mostly women but some men, lined up under the guns of Telviran soldiers.]

Postby TRIAD Enterprises » Mon Jun 29, 2009 5:58 pm

****************************************************************************************************
HR-1388 System - MACE Observation Outpost 238 - Five parsecs from Ventree system
****************************************************************************************************

Ever since the Branch Office and multiple Franchises had been established in this universe, TRIAD Enterprises unofficial black ops department had been sent more and more assets and resources to deal with the many myriad political factions, and the many commercial opportunities those factions presented. MACE, short for Market Assessment, Competitor Elimination, did not appear on any reports, documents, or databases. It's existence was known only to the many operatives themselves, the Board of Directors, and the CEO himself. Most of it's agents and operatives were Marduk, although a good number were from various other species.

One of the automated listening posts scattered across the galactic arm managed to intercept hyperspace communications between portions of the Lindgard navy about a Star Destroyer which was under attack by what were described in the report as 'planetary pirates'. This alone would not have warranted any further interest or involvement by the Digital Entity aboard the listening post, however further details in the report indicated a third party ship had informed the "Vantage" of the piracy. The third party was described as the "Arkship Misanthropy", from the "Interstellar Transhuman Trading Clan Remilliod". While the DE here was simple in design and programming, it had enough 'brainpower' to latch onto the terms Intersetllar and Trading; and thus the listening post sent the report further up the chain of command for a sapient mind to evaluate.

A short time later, an emergency meeting of the department heads aboard the MACE Observation Outpost 238 discussed the report on the Ventree system, and made decisions on what to do. After an hour of debate, it was decided that further intel was needed. Intel which could only be obtained on-site. A recent covert operation had provided this outpost with a number of Abh designed ships, including three Roil-Class Assault Vessels. These would be dispatched to the Ventree system, and attempt to discover what was happening there.

****************************************************************************************************
Ventree System - Outer Periphery - Five Light Hours from Planet Ventree -
****************************************************************************************************

While sticking to cover had been determined a high priority, speed in gathering the required intel was higher than covert presence. Thus the squadron of Roil-class ships traveled to the Ventree system using purchased hyperspace drives, allowing them to reach the edges of the system only two hours after the "Vantage" first made her call for reinforcements. The ships dropped out of hyperspace a full five light-hours from the conquered planet, immediately using non-thermal thrusters to begin pushing them away from the hyperspace entry point. All three ships shut down all power but communications and computers. Their EM and thermal signatures at this range would resemble a cluster of cometary fragments, and even that signature would take five hours to reach those battling further inside the system.
Their position thus masked, the three ships launched a dozen tiny sensor drones each, these used onboard Colonoal-type FTL drives to 'jump' deeper into the system. It was assumed that the jump signatures of the drones would be detected, so the drones were considered expendable. Each was programmed to jump to a different location five light-minutes away from the planet and begin powerful active scans of the area. The distributed positioning of the drones allowed the whole set to share sensor coverage, and receive scan returns from each other as well.
If the combatants picked up the Assault Ships at all, which was deemed unlikely, it would be some time before any attacks from so far in-system would actually reach them. In the meantime, their drones were blithely announcing their locations for the whole system to hear, blanketing an area five-light minutes across with every scan emission known to TRIAD's science.

((OOC Note: Up to you what kind of information on your ships the drones would be able to obtain, but your positions are all going to be clearly marked. Also, there are no actual transmissions in this universe between drones and control ships. The comms on board use cosmic superstrings to carry their data channels, so no interception or triangulation of the assault ship's locations. FTL-type sensors seen in Trek and Star Wars could potentially pick up the Assault Ships' locations, but it would be like looking for a breadcrumb in a football stadium. Possible, but unlikely.
Right now I'm staying out of the fighting, just gathering data on the lot of you. Will likely attempt contact with one or more parties next post.))

Exactly one millisecond after receiving the transmission from Herald of Wrath Captain Remilliod ordered all offensive weapon systems of Misanthropy to be powered down. For several full seconds - an eternity for someone as heavily modified as the Captain was - he felt utterly powerless. This was definitely something he had NOT expected: in reality, he couldn't care less about the pathetic Ventriites or even planet itself; the only thing that had any meaning was deep under the southern ice cap of Ventree... But he couldn't reveal his real thoughts to neither the Vantage nor the Miazaki, or they would see right through the web of lies he had carefully built in order to be seen as a savior.

I must think of something! Quickly! the Captain thought, his mind fully active - and dangerously overclocked - again. Perhaps we could... Yes, perhaps... Let's see if it'll work... Perhaps they've lowered their firewalls during this proadcast.

Misanthropy targeted her comm-laser towards Herald of Wrath, transmitting a single, short message:

"We have ceased our attack for now. Do not harm the innocents. I am sure we can find a peaceful solution.

- Yours, sincerely:
Captain Remilliod"

However, the overwhelming majority of the bits the laser-waves carried within lay in self-replicating, semi-sentient computer viruses programmed to destroy themselves upon any threat of detection. They had but a single function: "TAKE CONTROL".
God was a dream of good government.

Unfortunately, there was no such luck for the Misanthropy. The message had been a short-burst flash message, so by the time the reply from the superfreighter arrived the firewalls were fully up and running. The virus was in the system for a fraction of a second and then it was gone. However, it had managed, in it's death throes, to temporarily disable the control interface link between the various Telviran ships, so for now they were fighting on their own.

To Captain Remilliod
We merely ask that you cease your attacks permanently. We are prepared to negotiate a settlement between us that will be acceptable for both sides.

Meanwhile, some of the F4s broke off and began launching FM3 missiles at the Hellfires and engaging with onboard hetlasers. The remaining F4s continued to dogfight with the jumpers, while other fighters re-armed in the carriers.

The two monitors were about five minutes out. Each monitor carried a total of 300 CM launchers, providing enough ship-to-ship firepower to annihilate the three ships, regardless of their shielding or technology. Nothing could withstand 600 simultaneously launched, sprint-mode Capital Missiles.

OOC-Sure.

IC-As the explorers gawked at the landscape, a small group of beishalka emerged from the brush. One of them, a woman, spoke up in Basic (English). "Please, you must help us...the Telvirans have killed or enslaved everyone. Please, please...help us." There were 8 beishalka in all, all women or children.

Over Ventree
Space folded and twisted momentarily as the two monitors, Scipio and Tyrannous, emerged from skip space. As the crews shook off the post-skip effects, they engaged sublight drives and moved to engage to NERV ship. Meanwhile, Takin waited on the Herald of Wrath, awaiting the superfreighter's reply.

Things were getting ugly very cuickly. The computer virus had been neutralized. Two more Telviran warships, fully armed and operational, had just arrived to the star system, greatly strengthening their already formidable fleet. Luckily, they choose to engage the NERV ship claiming to belong to a faction owning Ventree. And the Telviran commander was willing to negotiate.

Captain Remilliod pondered his options. He had seen the offesive capabilities of the primitive-yet-powerful capital missiles launched by the Telvirans. As one of his many sub-persons - an admiral of some long-fogotten star empire - had put it: "When matter meets a nuclear warhead, the nuclear warhead tends to win."

Of course, it was still out of question to tell them the truth; if the Telvirans only knew what lay below the surface of the planet they had just captured, they would never be willing to let Misanthropy anywhere near it... anywhere in the entire star system. But the Captain was also unwilling to continue fighting. Misanthropy had taken some heavy damage, and with all these ships and factions inside a single star system, it was becoming more and more difficult to keep the web of lies he had built together and running.

Eventually he made his decision and ordered all the remaining combat wasps and -hornets to be called back. They weren't as effective against the Telviran point-defenses as he had hoped, and most of them were running out of fuel an ordnance anyway. At nearly 0.5 AUs, Misanthropy was still too far away to use her more powerful short-range weapons, such as the reversed singularity bombs and hypomeric weapons the Captain had offered to his enemies only hours before. The superfreighter cut her antimatter engine and let her massive bulk drift in space at the already-obtained velocity. Now it would take couple of hours to reach the high orbit above the planet... and an effective hypometric firing range.

Misanthropy targeted her comm-laser towards both Miazaki and Vantage and informed them that the Interstellar Transhuman Trading Clan Remilliod would be leaving the battle... for now:

“The barbaric forces of the Solar Empire of Telvira are threatening the planetary population with an all-out xenocide. While we condemn this horrible behavior, we currently have no choice other than to listen what they have to say. Primero Takin has contacted us and he seems to be willing to negotiate. We are going to hear his offer before making our next move. We suggest you do the same.”

To the Herald of Wrath, a single, short message (without any viruses this time) was sent:

”Very well, then. It appears you have taken the upper hand for now. We recognize the right time for negotiations, and now that we’ve both seen what the other side is capable of, we are interested in hearing you suggestions. Our demands are still same, though: we desperately need the Beryllium isotope 2 found on this planet, and as we can never trust you not to corrupt the samples, we must send our own team to the surface.

- Yours, sincerely:
Captain Remilliod”

Primero Takin visibly relaxed. "Misanthropy, after having consulted my superiors, we are willing to allow you to send mining teams down to this area. However, your operations will be confined to the area you specified earlier, and we reserve the right to send observers to watch your operations. Do you accept?"

Meanwhile, the 150 FM3-armed F4s began dogfighting with the Star Republic fighters, firing off FM3s at long-range and using their internal hetlaser in close range. The area was filled with the bright glare of missile detonations and the bright, scathing hetlaser beams.

With the command datalink restored, Takin was able to coordinate his reinforced armada more effectively. He took advantage of the respite to shift his battle-line around. The two monitors and half of the dreadnoughts moved to cover the Miazaki, while his remaining dreadnoughts and his Abruzzi-class cruisers kept watch over the Misanthropy and the Star Republic ship.

Excellent! Captain Remilliod though when he was finally granted a permission to send his men onto Ventree's surface. Of course, he didn't really trust the Telvirans to keep their word, and definitely they would turn against him after seeing what the Misanthropy was really after... But by that time, the Captain hoped, his vessel woud be close enough to unload a whole barrage of reversed singularity bombs and hypometric missiles, thus ending the Telviran threat once and for all. Of course, approaching that close to a hostile fleet had some severe counter-risks too, but then again, stakes were very high.

The Captain beamed the coordinates of his "Beryllium-rich valley" to the distant Herald of Wrath and adjusted the superfreighter's flight path just enough to allow it take orbit around Ventree after getting close enough. Of course, Misanthropy was too large to actually land on any planet, but one of her numerous hangar bays opened and sent a large shuttlecraft towards the planet. Inside were some of the Captain's most trusted crew, as well as several cybernetically enhanced worker-gorillas and robots... And something else too.

But as the shuttle propelled itself towards the planet, one of the combat-AIs brought the Captain a troubling message: apparently someone, or something, had entered the system duting the battle, and was now doing everything in order to stay undetected. However, the space-warping jump-signature generated by an extremely small-scale FTL engine was there, almost blending to the cosmic background radiation... but only almost. The sentient AI oversees on the Misanthropy's outer hull immediately zoomed to the targets and identified them as some kind of sensor drones.

Captain Remilliod did not like this at all. The concept of some yet-unknown party observing this all was very unnerving, as it added an unknown factor to the precise calculations his enhanced mind was performing each and every second. After thinking about it for a moment, he ordered one of the returning combat hornets intercept the nearest drone and bring it to the Misanthropy for further investigation.

Primero Takin mopped his brow with the back of his hand. That's one enemy down...two or three to go. The F4s continued to dogfight the Star Republic fighters, and the Miazaki wasn't dead yet. The monitors would change that, though. And there was the matter of these sensor buoys.
"Kirama, send a Kestrel out to pick one of those buoys up. I want it undamaged, understand?"
"Yessir."
The Kestrel assault shuttle exited the Herald of Wrath's hangar and headed out to the nearest buoy. Once there, it locked it in a tractor beam and began pulling it into the shuttle's cargo bay.

The Repairs were proceeding well when the Ship received the tell tale Comms Flash that indicated the imminent arrival or Star Republic ships.

"Sir, the Star Republic ship has just gotten the comms ping." Takin turned to face the Star Republic Star Destroyer. "Have the Tyrannous move to cover them." A few seconds later, the monitor shifted and moved to cover the Vantage, as well as four dreadnoughts. The eight remaining cruisers focused on recovering any survivors from the wreckage and assisting with repairs.

Nearby, the monitor Scipio and four dreadnoughts unleashed a devastating salvo of 900 Capital Missiles at the Miazaki. The space in front of the NERV ship seemed to be a solid wall of light from the drive engines of the CMs as they screamed towards their target. Behind this wall of death, the Telviran ships began reloading.

Meanwhile, a pair of F4s moved to escort the Misanthropy's shuttle, and a company of troopers boarded Kestrel shuttles and moved to await the miners at the valley.

OOC: the sea of Dirac is a very strange weapon

the miazaki raised its sea of Dirac, in time for the missiles to be absorbed by it, then it FTL jumped right next to the telverian command vessel, it opened fire with its massive dimensional distortion weapons, breaking holes in space time where they didn't hit, this would surely destroy the primitive telvirians, meanwhile a single specially fitted hellfire bomber launched from the hangar, it then made a hyperspace jump, it reappeared in a low planetary orbit, it descended down unto the planet

ooc: NERV arms conglomerate, I sense a bit of godmodding here... Now, you aren't really trying to make us believe that a SINGLE of your ships is going to totally annihilate ALL opposition without suffering ANY damage at all, are you?

iic: Hikikomori - the shuttlecraft from Misanthropy - entered Ventree's atmosphere and headed towards a deep, icy valley near the Southern Polar regions. Piloted by Captain's Champion Brannigan, Hikikomori was a large and heavy atmospheric craft, meant to carry cargo, goods and passengers from surface to orbit and back.

When the valley was only a few hundred kilometers away, Brannigan contacted the Telviran F4s:

"This is the heavy cargo shuttle Hikikomori. We believe we can manage the rest of the journey alone. We thank you for your escort and your willingness to keep your part of the deal. I am sure Captain Remilliod will remember your generosity in the future, should we meet again.

Hikikomori engaged her atmospheric engines and began the final preparations for landing.
