A major military procession paraded down Strada dei Re today, from the Ponte Aldo Moro past the Castello d'Cormor. Elements of the Esercito del Principato (EdP) were present, the 1° Reggimento di Fanteria "Ancona" at the head of the formation. A public holiday was declared for the day as the lengthy procession closed down streets on both sides of the Cormor River for over two hours today, staring around noon.

King Carlo was in attendance today, watching the parade from eastern steps of the Castello d'Cormor. High ranking officials from the Parthonopian Armed Forces were also in attendance, accompanying the King. Much of the senior command staff of the Legion, specifically the high command of the EdP, watched over the procession from the steps alongside King Carlo while the newly commissioned commander of the EdP, Field Marshal Gianmarco Francostara, was at the helm of the march, leading it in a military jeep. News was leaked late last week that there was a lengthy conference underway between King Carlo and Armed Forces command, it's conclusion yesterday, culminating with the parade today following it.

It was broadcasted publicly, La Nazione having exclusive access to state recordings and a series of addresses afterwards. There were several speakers from the Armed Forces and government, including speeches from King Carlo and Grand Marshal Vico Bartolomeo Ongaro.

The EdP, often considered the pinnacle of the Legion's forces, were in full parade dress and sporting some of the best weaponry that the Kingdom currently has to offer, including both domestically produced and imported equipment. Military parades have not been uncommon in Ancona since the formation of the Legion and even more so since the declaration of the Kingdom. There was another parade less than three months ago for King Carlo, although of a significantly smaller size. The real star of the show today was what appeared to be the unveiling of previously unseen weaponry possessed by the Kingdom's Armed Forces.

At the center of the procession was eight specially designed vehicles, each transporting a large missile. Non government affiliated military specialists and analysists have informed La Nazione that the hardware exhibited at today's parade hold a striking resemblance to intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs). The capability of Parthonopia to either produce or utilize weapons of this scale and nature was previously unknown. Prior consensus on this subject was that the Kingdom was not in possession of any such weapons, nor capable of creating them or detonating them.

Some of the public statements today alluded to as much, with not a single speaker commenting on the presentation of these eight missiles or what exactly they were. The closest statement commenting on them was a remark by King Carlo in his address. "Our great nation is strong and protected. Our Armed Forces are some of the greatest in the world, possessing some of the most powerful weaponry on Olympia."

While this statement did not directly refer to the shocking display of the apparent capabilities of the Parthonopian military, its inferred that the missiles were the subject. Statements released from the Castello d'Cormor this afternoon have denied that these missiles were anything more than mock ups of future missile plans. The main focus of much of the speeches today was the complete modernization of the Legion and the rest of the Parthonopian military. Upgrading equipment and platforms is a primary goal of the nation's leadership for the years to come, including the goal of possessing advanced weapon systems.

Grand Marshal Ongaro, chief commander of the Parthonopian Legion, referenced the nuclear capability of some of the Kingdom's neighbors and how that is something he and King Carlo also strive to accomplish. "When threatening aggressors possess weapons with the means to completely obliterate life as we know it here, there must be no questions as to whether or not we too should be working have these same weapons of own. The matter is not of the destruction we want to incur on those we call our enemy, but the destruction upon ourselves we wish to deter, simply by owning them."

If these were in fact ICBMs, they may or may not be nuclear missiles. There are currently no official sources of uranium, necessary for the production of such weapons, that currently trade the material with the Kingdom. Nor are there any nations on the record that would be willingly to trade such weaponry. The capabilities of Parthonopia to produce them has been brought into question as a result. Available resources would lend towards the belief that the infrastructure to do so just is not there. Official spokespersons from the Legion and the rest of the Armed Forces have stated as much. But with the presence of these missiles today, there is wonder as to whether or not these statements are purposefully misleading in order to protect Parthonopia's interests.

This leaves the question as to what is to come next? If the missiles in question do prove to be ICBMs, what are their intended purpose? There is no proof as to whether or not the Kingdom has the ability to launch such weapons, although the immersion of the former Aridite Armed Forces into the Parthonopian military has widely expanded the equipment and means on hand. There is also potential for testing these weapons if they are functional missiles and not just mockups of planned ones.

There was a clear message sent with the display of these missiles, the meaning of which is left up to interpretation.

MARCO ROBOTO:  Good morning everyone, and happy Friday. Welcome back Marie, it's great to see you here. Let me go over some of our announcements for today and then I can take your questions.

President Martinez will spend most of today taking meetings at the State House, including one with Treasury officials to discuss her plans to bolster defense spending, and then she's going to head out to Hartston where she will address the Ames Business Roundtable. And finally she will return to Annheim later tonight and join Secretary Bonifaz on a call with Liran foreign affairs leaders.

Vice President Romola will be in Keystone today to break ground on the Keystone Pipeline, which will create more than 12,000 jobs and introduce an extraordinary source of energy and revenue for a state that has long been neglected by Annheim politicians.

Under the leadership of Majority Leader Miria, the National Council will take the final steps today to prepare to repeal and replace Medicare next week. The Democratic caucus in the House, joined by our Liberal coalition partners, know what needs to be done and aren't afraid to do it. Yet the radical left continues to delay the process, so hopefully we'll have that ready to go by next week.

And lastly, the President was happy to sign the Veterans Pension Reform Act yesterday, which will bring much needed relief to our nation's former service members, and she looks forward to taking further action in the coming months to repair our broken Veterans Hospital system.

Q:  Good morning, Marco. Councillor Eliot — uh, from Newton, with the Liberals — has suggested that he is uncomfortable with the Medicare repeal effort, and other Liberals privately have agreed with him, and even some Democrats. Even Secretary Viel and Secretary Matts have been dismissive of the proposal. Is the State House prepared to rally sufficient support to pass the repeal?

ROBOTO:  Well, let's be clear, and I don't know who these private sources are — you always hear, private source this, and private source that, but you never know who said it. And I don't think it's completely credible to say, you know, we don't know if it's going to pass, or we don't think everyone is on board, because from our end, in the State House, we have people who keep track of these numbers and are pretty certain that we're on the right track. We're doing what the Oceanian people elected us to do, so keep that in mind.

Q:  And can you comment on the dissension within the President's Cabinet, with regard to that?

ROBOTO:  Yeah, I mean, I'm not sure... I don't think that's as big a deal as everyone would like it to be. Sometimes President Martinez and her advisors are going to disagree. That's just how it works.

Q: Speaking of intra-cabinet dissent, Secretary Menéndez said he is not on board with the Keystone Pipeline proposal.

ROBOTO: I wouldn't call it a proposal at this juncture, but I'd suggest you take that up with his office. This is the first we've heard of it, if it's true.

Q: Yeah, that's fine. Um, would you comment on the Secretary, Secretary Bonifaz's calls later tonight, and what he and the President will be discussing?

STAMPER: Sure. Well, there's some economic stuff, to be sure, and we're also concerned about recent developments in — in, let me make sure I pronounce this right. Parth, oh, nope, ee, uh. Parthonopia. If you're following that, they're doing a bit, some concerning stuff with their, uh, their aerospace capabilities, if you want to put it that way. (laughter) So we're concerned about that, and we're looking into it, and the President and the Secretary want to be sure he, they, that they're going to be prepared for any further developments on that front.

Q:  Hi, Marco. I actually want to follow up on that. Does the President consider the Parthnopian — sorry, Parthonopian ICBM developments, does the President consider those a cause for concern? And what are the plans tonight, in terms of addressing that, if you could expand on that.

ROBOTO: Yeah, I mean, I would definitely refer you to Katherine in the Foreign office on that question, because I don't know especially the particulars, but what I can tell you is that, yes, these kinds of things are concerning, and we want to keep a watchful eye on them. It isn't every day that countries, you know, states like that develop these kinds of weaponry, and the fact that they're flaunting it? That's definitely something we're looking into, so.

Q:  Right—

ROBOTO:  So we want to keep on eye on that.

ROBOTO:  In case we need to take some more action.

Q:  And could you say who will be on the calls?

ROBOTO: Oh, wow. Space Corps. I'm happy to check with our Space Corps point of contact on that. I'm not sure who that is, but, uh, I will find out. And we'll see if we have any update on that.

Wintonian Government Identifies Parthonopian ICBMs as missing Wintonian Nuclear Weapons

At a press conference held just minutes ago, the Wintoian government identified the nuclear weapons as the weapons lost during the chaos of the last year. Originally thought to have been stolen by RO operatives, Winst has been on high alert for a potential nuclear terrorist attack, however, those fears have been mollified and replaced with new ones, a nuclear Parthonopia.

The Tourne government has called the theft of these weapons a high crime against humanity and an intolerable provocation by the Parthonopian Government. Already calls on social media from members of the National Assembly, which hasn’t convened in going on 8 months now, to reconvene the assembly and vote to declare war on Parthonopia. No word on such matters has come from the Tourne Government.

The spokesman went on to say that this provocation will not go unanswered but did not comment on whether Winst was preparing for war. He ended his announcement by stating that while a paradigm shift has occurred within Orthuria, Parthonopia only has 15 ICBMs and currently no way to produce more.

Rogue State Unveils ICBMs at Military Parade, Winst Confirms Missing Nukes in hand of Parthonopians

While Parthonopians are celebrating, the rest of the world has offered mixed reactions of the unveiling of ICBMs alleged to be armed with warheads misplaced by Winst during the upheaval last summer. 8 Missile Trucks loaded with an ICBM each were seen at the Military Parade in Ancona Friday, however the Wintonians claim that Parth is in possession of 15 warheads
.
The news has come as a shock to those in the Lunderfrausian Intelligence Community. MBD officials stated they had been monitoring the situation with Winsts missing warheads but had no intelligence suggesting the Parthonopians had snatched them. The sudden and surprise appearance of Nuclear Weapons in Parthonopia marks another major blunder for the Intelligence Agency, just months after its major failures in detecting the July Coup against Kaiserin Elise and her government. Foreign Affairs Minister Lars Rosen held a brief press conference on the issue Saturday morning.

“Nuclear Weapons require a delicate and precise hand to weild, however the Parthonopians have opted to brandish them as one would brandish a Saber. The Matriarchy does not take kindly to such wonton provocations.” When asked about the Wintonian claim that the weapons match the 15 stolen from them, the Minister was quoted as saying. “We are in close contact with our counterparts in the Wintonian government and hope to issue a joint statement on the matter if possible.”

While many perceive a Nuclear Parthonopia as a grave threat to Liran security and stability, others have noted that it brings the potential for greater Co-operation between the Lunderfrau, Winst and Meronnia. Who prior to Friday we’re known as “Lira’s Nuclear Triad”. Though Lunderfrausian relations with the other two members of the Triad have been cold at best to icy at worst over the past century, the rise of Parthonopia and shift in foreign policy by Kaiserin Elise have begun to warm the traditionally cool relations.

Lunderfrausian Military Officials waived off the display as, “Bark with no bite” and made their concern clear on the matter. With one quoted as saying. “Currently the Matriarchy boasts around 75 warheads currently active and able to be fired at moments notice with another 100 able to be armed and ready within a few minutes. 8 or 15, the Parthonopians are still vastly outgunned.”

Just right. That was how Foreign Minister Roman Surovy had described his preference. It was a clever ploy, Konstantin realized, because it had no right answer. It was just made to test Konstantin, the younger adjutant, to see what he thought just right might be. In the end though, it was not that important, Konstantin knew, as he placed the two glasses on the table. If the older man knew that Konstantin‘a drink had substituted the berkova for water, then, well, that would definitely not be acceptable. But right now, he really couldn't deal with the hair of the dog.

The room was quiet. Just like how Surovy liked it. One of the ice cubes cracked. "So what do you think of this...provocation?"

Konstantin still didn't touch his drink.

“Mr. Foreign Minister, it’s not a provocation. Not yet. Parthanopia having nuclear weapons is only a provocation to the nations that already have them - for years they’ve waved that card in King Carlo’s face. And now he can play it back.”

"Mutually assured destruction,” Surovy smirked. He toasted with his drink, but still didn’t touch its contents. “Always a pleasant thought.”

"Right-o, sir."

"And what do the Parthanopians plan to do with their new ace in the hole, you think?"

"Nothing," Ricardo said, confidently. "If they are smart, anyhow. Parth has already made its move - the ball is in Lira’s court now. It’s on them to respond - if they respond too harshly, Carlo waves his new toys around, and he wins. If they respond too weakly, he ignores them, and wins still. That’s the beauty of this. He doesn’t have to do anything." Surovy stayed very still. He was testing, of course, because Konstantin knew that the Foreign Minister knew infinitely more than his protege, and even if Konstantin was a fast learner, Surovy was faster. It was a test. After four more years, the ambassador's recommendation would see Konstantin's career fast-tracked, or destroyed. Well, the Foreign Ministry was always expanding. So there's no need to worry, Konstantin had been told, but of course, he'd spent most of his days so far worrying exactly what Surovy thought about him.

"But the weapons aren’t even Parthnopian. True or no?"

"Not true, Mr. Foreign Minister."

"So you are calling our friends in the Office of National Intelligence liars? Or stupid?"

"I’m saying it’s irrelevant in any case, Mr. Foreign Minister."

Surovy smirked again. "Quite right. I don't either believe ONI’s analysis is spot-on. Neither does General Cernik, by the sound of it. Whoever owned those weapons beforehand is irrelevant, because they are firmly in the hands of Carlo now. But this is somewhat serious. Parthanopia is a rising power, and wants nothing more than to be treated as such. In that way, we are very much alike. And I could think of a plethora of less favorable bedfellows."

“Such as Lunderfrau?”

"No comment," the Foreign Minister continued to smirk, almost breaking out into a laugh - he was, luckily, a man with a sense of humour.

"We do need to monitor this situation, Konstantin. But you are not a monitor. That task is far below your pay-grade. From this moment onwards I want you to accelerate our Information Mission in Parth. We'll receive new funds within the week. Its time we see exactly what this Carlo fellow is made of."

He toasted again. And this time, Konstantin Hamerling drank.

President Lajoie made shockingly strong comments to media this afternoon.

(M24) —

President Lajoie, recently sworn into office and still making the finishing touches on his presidential staff and other appointments he is responsible for, has been widely expected to make a significant splash in Meronnian foreign policy. A veteran of the Foreign Legion and an outspoken hardliner of Faction Radicale in the Chamber of Deputies, Lajoie had made many calls to take a bolder and more forceful stance against threats to Meronnian interests prior to his election. In the first few weeks of office, the President seemed quiet on foreign affairs, though many close to the President informed press a more accurate characterization would be that the President was getting his bearings, and preparing a comprehensive foreign strategy before acting.

Today, speaking to Meronnian and international press on questions surrounding the recent panic-inspiring news from Parthonopia, the President acted.

Asked what Meronnia's policy would be in reaction to the possible acquisition of nuclear weapons by the Kingdom of Parthonopia, the President's first words were: "There is no Kingdom of Parthonopia". Shocked reporters asked the President what he meant, and he repeated the answer. The President then proceeded with the following statement:

"The Duke of Ancona has made tyrannical theater for eight years on the back of weak leaders who have acquiesced to every demand. His illegal self-proclaimed government exists only insofar as his thugs and enforcers exist. We will negotiate with the Duke of Ancona as we would with any other warlord-turned-tyrant; in specifics as necessary, and without recognition of legality."

"The Duke of Ancona's most recent violation of the conduct of the international community, if accusations are true, is the theft of weapons of mass destruction. The Meronnian intelligence community will ascertain shortly the truth of this matter, and in the case that we find this has occurred, retributory action will commence beyond that already planned for in the general realignment of the Meronnian position."

When further prompted by confused media members who quickly dropped the issue at hand, the President confirmed he did not recognize the existence of a Kingdom of Parthonopia as a state. One reporter pointed to the Senone Conference, to which the President responded that Meronnia often includes unrecognized and illegal self-proclaimed states in peace negotiations, pointing to their negotiated truce between the Republic of Irpan and its communist rebels as a recent example, and reiterated that such did not indicate recognition. The President noted he would welcome the legal reunification of the "divided territories in Parthonopia", perhaps by reworking the self-declared Commonwealth and promoting a constitutional convention made up of elected representatives.

Getting back on subject, the President declined to be locked into specifics about what the response to the new crisis in Parthonopia might be, indicating that he would be conversing with other members of government in the coming days on the subject. When asked what actions the President would rule out as a response, he responded that he would not rule out anything.

The First Deputy and Foreign Secretary were reached out to for comment on the President's statements, but declined to give one at this time.

JJ Francis, Felix Alexander and Connor Hewitt were sweating. The fan in the corner of the room was pushing the hot around the basement room and doing nothing to cool the actual room. The Three party leaders had come to this sweltering secured building to discuss the civil war away from the prying eyes of the new militarist party, but when they entered and watched the international news they were greeted by a rather startling news piece. "So another nuclear nation?" Felix said leaning back in his chair and taking a sip from his beer. He was tired again and by the looks of it had been drunk before he arrived. "What's that to us?" Hewitt asked taking a drag on a cigarette. The former factory foreman had been proudly quit for six years before coming to head of the Socialist Party and a significant leader in the new Irpan government. "Nothing, unless we suddenly become interesting to the wider world we can keep killing each other in peace. You got the later statistics on the Aserai Valley there?" JJ Francis wasn't drunk or smoking, but his eyes had bags bigger than his thumb under them. Hewitt passed the folder over to Francis who flicked through it before closing it and placing in on the cold concrete floor. "So on the topics of WMDs we have re-secured our arsenal of remaining nerve gas. Nothing much left considering the Brotherhood went a little wild with it. But hey if Parthonopia want nukes and want to parade them about let them! Hey we can even release a statement supporting them, but we got our own problems."
"I like the support statement idea, i'll get to work on it." Felix smiled as he stood up and pulled his metal chair across the concrete floor releasing a shrill screech from it. When he reached the nearby desk and paper and pulled a pen from the pot he was not surprised by the murderous looks of his fellow party leaders.

Irpan can not support in other ways as we are only a drop in the ocean of the world and have our own problems, but to see another nation progressing its defense is heartening. Thank you."

Kaiserin Elise addresses media on Parthonopian Crisis, Matriarchy issues joint statement with Winst and Meronnia

At a press conference held at Laubenhugel Palace this evening, Kaiserin Elise made her position on the Parthonopian Crisis.

“At this time, we have limited knowledge on the authenticity of the missiles displayed at Yesterday’s parade in Ancona. However, we stand with Winst in the belief that these weapons were stolen from them. As a measure of good faith, I am asking the Kingdom of Parthonopia to allow the international community into the nation to confirm the authenticity of said weapons as well as find out where they originated from. It is fully within their power to clear up the confusion surrounding these weapons. Regaurdless of where these weapons came from, the continued proliferation of weapons of mass destruction cannot be allowed. When I ascended the throne in 2015, I scaled back Lunderfraus exports of Uranium, and again I will have my ministers review current practices to see if there is room for improvement.
The Kingdom of Parthonopia has 48 hours starting from midnight tonight to respond to our request for an investigation. Should they fail to respond or refuse, The Matriarchy will be forced to respond.”

Foreign Policy experts are mixed on whether the Parthonopian government will allow independent inspectors in to verify Winsts claims as well as the actual existence of nuclear weapons. Additionally, many were left wondering what the “response” of the Matriarchy would be. When further questioned, the Kaiserin stated “We are looking at all options related to economic and political recourse”. However, experts have noted that Lunderfrau has already frozen most if not all assets of Parthonopian Officials and barred trading of critical resources such as weapons, steel, oil, coal, natural gas and uranium. Some have suggested locking Parth out of Lunderfrau’s food stuffs industry, though most consider this to be a cruel measure that would hurt those without much say in the nations matters the most.

Additionally, the Matriarchy, the Plutocratic Republic of Winst and the Republic of Meronnia issued a joint statement regarding the crisis. The statement, while brief, reiterates both nations commitment to halting nuclear proliferation and demands Parthonopia allow for international inspectors to verify Winsts claims. Additionally it demands the return of Wintonian Nukes should the claims be proven true. The statement marks a major turning point in Lunder-Winst, Lunder-Meronnian relations that have been a cornerstone of Kaiserin Elise’s foreign policy.

Joint Statement on Nonproliferation

The Greater Ackesian Republic, the Isthmian Commonwealth, the Federal Republic of Lykens, the Federal Republic of Meronnia, the Oceanian Republic, the Kingdom of Produzland, and the United Republic of Storsnia oppose the proliferation, by any actor, of nuclear weapons, chemical weapons, missiles capable of carrying such weapons, and certain other missiles and missile technologies. The more nations that possess such weapons, the more difficult it will be to realize the desire of people everywhere to achieve effective arms control and disarmament measures and to reduce the threat of war. Weapons proliferation can provoke or intensify insecurity and hostility among nations, and threatens the world with warfare of unprecedented destructiveness.

We emphasize that even the potential for the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction demonstrates a grave and historic threat to the international community, and strongly condemn the use or threat of such weapons. Especially in the modern era, as non-state actors pose an incremental threat to the international order and the arms trade grows more complex, it is critical that weapons of mass destruction be inspected and publicly documented to prevent their proliferation.

It is in the interests of global security to secure nonproliferation as a collective goal of the highest order, and to that end, the Greater Ackesian Republic, the Isthmian Commonwealth, the Federal Republic of Lykens, the Federal Republic of Meronnia, the Oceanian Republic, the Kingdom of Produzland, and the United Republic of Storsnia:

-- Declare their commitment to preventing the proliferation of nuclear weapons, chemical weapons, and missiles capable of carrying such weapons and certain other missiles and missile technologies;

-- Agree to work closely together and with other members of the international community to develop and to put into action concrete measures against the proliferation of these types of weapons; and

-- Urge any nation possessing these types of weapons to submit to independent inspection of their arsenals for the purpose of public documentation of existing weapons of mass destruction.

We look forward to the continued cooperation of our nations, and all other members of the international community, and we hope to see this statement push the world toward important and inexorable progress on the issue of proliferation.

Baratza- New Merronian President Lajoie kicked off a firestorm in Olympia with a press conference in which he criticized Parthonopia and world leaders who support or otherwise enable the government of King Carlo over alleged nuclear weapons acquisitions.

"There is no Kingdom of Parthonopia," the President declared. "The Duke of Ancona has made tyrannical theater for eight years on the back of weak leaders who have acquiesced to every demand. His illegal self-proclaimed government exists only insofar as his thugs and enforcers exist. We will negotiate with the Duke of Ancona as we would with any other warlord-turned-tyrant; in specifics as necessary, and without recognition of legality. The Duke of Ancona's most recent violation of the conduct of the international community, if accusations are true, is the theft of weapons of mass destruction. The Meronnian intelligence community will ascertain shortly the truth of this matter, and in the case that we find this has occurred, retributory action will commence beyond that already planned for in the general realignment of the Meronnian position."

King Erramun XII of Boaga, the son-in-law of King Carlo (the Queen Consort being Annamaria of Parthonopia), usually a reserved monarch, immediately issued a public statement from the Royal Palace of Baratza in defense of his father-in-law. “Some statements have been circulating concerning my father-in-law,” the King stated. “The position of the Kingdom of Boaga is that Carlo is the King of Parthonopia, and my wife, Queen Annamaria, is a Princess of Parthonopia. Neither I, nor our people will suffer insults against the Queen, her father or her nation. That is where I draw the line.

“I find it rich that the President of Meronnia, having freshly taken office, is so quick to throw around insults, cause diplomatic strife and instigate continental war. Claims of nuclear weapons claims are unproven, and if this will be used as an excuse to instigate retribution against Parthonopia, then he can be assured that Boaga will likewise demand retribution for provoking war. The President reconsider his position carefully.”

Prime Minister Manuel Mardo clarified the King’s statements during a press conference. “The King of Boaga is a young man of passion, conviction and loyalty to his wife, family and county,” Mardo said. “While we are opposed to saber-rattling, we do wish to declare that Boaga will not suffer the incitement of war, least of all against our allies. We trust that Parthonopia, in the quest for national unity and the restoration of just governance throughout their realms, sees the wisdom in opposing the proliferation of nuclear weapons. Boaga stands with other nations in opposing the spread and use of weapons of mass destruction, and we would encourage Parthonopia to allow nuclear weapons inspectors to confirm that no such weapons are a part of Parthonopia’s arsenal.”

When pressed about statements made by the Kaiserin of Lunderfrau, the Prime Minister answered, “The Kaiserin of Lunderfrau is a hypocrite and has no leg to stand on, while Lunderfau has maintained a nuclear arsenal that has remained largely unchanged since the 90s. The nations of Olympia should make the same demands upon Lunderfrau, which actually has a history of warmongering, conquest and oppression and poses a legitimate threat against peace on the continent. The nuclear weapons in Lunderfrau pose a threat against the national security of Boaga, are any other nations concerned about that? Perhaps the rest of Olympia has forgotten about the violent nature of Lunderfrau, but we Boagans have not. The conflict that now grips Olympia will need to be resolved with diplomacy, not threats of escalation and war.”

Recent polls have indicated a lukewarm level of support for Parthonopia among the public, averaging around 40%. Many of those questioned have said that they fear Parthonopia is harboring nuclear weapons, which are greatly unpopular in Boaga, and that Parthonopia will drag Boaga into a war with Lunderfrau, which is also unpopular. Political scientists have sited progress made in Boaga-Lunderfrau relations since 2015, when Elise succeeded her mother Theodora as Kaiserin, in spite of centuries-old conflict between the two neighboring nations.

“There is a widespread fear that this conflict could undo several years of improving ties,” said Dr. Argider Mendoya of the University of Baratza College of International Relations. “Young people want to see relations with Lunderfrau take a step forward, not a step back, and this business with Parthonopia greatly endangers that.”

Perhaps this is why, ultimately, the government of Manuel Mardo, who’s been Prime Minister since 2004, is taking a middle ground path on the issue of Parthonopia, by opposing the proliferation of nuclear weapons, supporting inspections while at the same time restating support for King Carlo and the government of Parthonopia.

SYLVAKIA CALLS FOR CALM, PROPOSES SUMMIT
President Cernik invites Liran states to summit in Karlovice

KARLOVICE - President Cernik extended formal invitations to the governments of Parthonopia, Produzland, Lunderfrau, Ackesia, Boaga, Oceania and Winst for a formal summit on what is becoming known in social circles as the Liran Missile Crisis. “The proliferation of nuclear weapons is a step backwards for the agenda of peace in Olympia,” Foreign Minister Surovy said in a press conference this morning. “However, we recognize the Kingdom of Parthonopia’s right to a strategic deterrent, and invite all parties to negotiate an equitable settlement in Karlovice.” Curiously, an invitation was not extended to Merronia, whose newly-elected President Lajoie made a series of belligerent and rude remarks, refusing to recognize King Carlo by his proper title. In doing so, the President inadvertently insulted the Queen of Boaga and made his stance on Parthonopia (who was united by Carlo two years ago) clear. On the topic, Foreign Minister Surovy had this to say: “The groundwork of this summit is diplomacy in both good faith and respect. As President Lajoie has made it clear by his own words that he does not wish to negotiate, the Republic sees no reason to have him attend the conference.”

The Crisis began last week with Parthonopia’s annual military parade, where it displayed a number of mobile medium range ballistic missile launchers. While it is unclear if the Parthanopia’s missiles have nuclear capability, Winst has claimed that the weapons are of their origin and were stolen during the civil unrest of years prior. Though international experts question the validity of the argument, what is clear is that the balance of power in Lira has shifted drastically. In light of such growing tensions and flaring tempers, President Cernik instructed the Foreign Ministry to invite all parties for a diplomatic solution.

Prime Minister Bonadeo Invites Partially Recognized Parthonopian King for State Visit

— Several days ago, the Parthonopian military flaunted their firepower through the streets of Ancona, including several unrecognized missiles. The specific numbers vary between eight and fifteen. Parthonopian news network La Nazione inside sources reported the unrecognized missiles as allegedly ICBMs, capable of doing significant damage to their western neighbor if the suspicions are correct.

Ricardo Bonadeo to the shock of many responded by announcing an invitation to the king of Parthonopia, Carlo I. Bonadeo stated in a press conference just over a year after the Senone Conference that he would like to discuss in person with the Parthonopian sovereign again on the matters of current geopolitics of Lira in Burlon. He declined to say if the alleged ICBMs had anything to do with his request for the state visit. Bonadeo was asked whether he felt Produzland should be intimidated by Parthonopia's military capibilites, he responded by saying Produzland they shouldn't feel intimidated, but they should absolutely be concerned, whether it's for our country's sake or our allies, and he wants to find an area where both countries and Produzland's allies can be satisfied. Bonadeo was also posed with the question of if he would condemn Parthonopia, which he said he would like to discuss with King Carlo before putting out a condemnation. Several other nations across Olympia have already condemned the Parthonopian government.

His majesty, King José III also had a press conference where he announced pleasure to meet his Parthonopian counterpart. He stated, “I’d be pleased to meet my fellow sovereign in Orthuria if he accepts Prime Minister Bonadeo’s invitation. I’ve heard, well, some good things about him from my Prime Minister when he visited Senone at the beginning of last year”. Bonadeo announced he invited King Carlo to the king’s ceremonial residence at Vidaveira Palace.

Sardou attempts damage control, Lajoie doubles down

The First Deputy scrambled to reassert Meronnia's position, but his President wasn't having it.

In an interesting and quite sudden turn of events, it is looking as though the recent comments made by new President, Augustin Lajoie, about the legitimacy of the existence of the Kingdom of Parthonopia, may see Meronnia sitting in the diplomatic penalty box - an isolation from regional diplomatic discussions which will be new to the broker of many past deals in Lira and beyond.

The First Deputy, Maximilien Sardou, who initiated and led the Senone Conference which attained a peaceable solution to tensions in Orthuria last year, seemed clearly agitated by these proceedings. Constitutional law makes it difficult for the First Deputy to oppose the President on foreign affairs, but Sardou made a number of carefully phrased comments to the media indicating a position that does not seem to be fully in support of Lajoie.

Sardou claimed that the President had made "passionate" statements about Parthonopia, and that such is to be expected with "inexperience, and strongly held beliefs" like Lajoie holds. While he made no explicit reference to them, the President was previously known for outbursts and controversies in the Chamber of Deputies, and Sardou seemed to be trying to portray this as just another minor gaffe to be swept away.

As for the Sylvakian conference itself, the First Deputy was magnanimous. He stated that it was the right of the Sylvakian government to determine which parties they invited to attend the conference, and would respect their decision. Sardou noted disappointment that Sylvakia did not intend to make this a truly "pan-Liran" affair, but reaffirmed that Meronnia would be open to bilateral or multilateral conversation on where to go from here on the present issue, with whichever parties did wish to include all perspectives.

For his part, President Lajoie seemed even more energized than usual. He confirmed multiple times that he was not backing down from his position and that he continued to not recognize the legitimacy of the Kingdom of Parthonopia. Asked about the conference and whether he would negotiate with Parthonopia on the issue, the President noted that he "would be open to discussion with representatives of the Duke of Ancona, just as we have negotiated with illegal forces pragmatically in the past".

Asked specifically his feelings about the Sylvan conference, the President reaffirmed his First Deputy's view that it was their right to determine attendants. Lajoie stated that Meronnia would send representatives if invited to the conference, but would not change their position as a condition of attendance. He said that not being invited to the conference would not be taken as an insult, but that Sylvakia should not make any assumptions about Meronnia abiding by an agreement they were not party to.

Cisparrania backs Meronnia, calls exclusion irresponsible

The Cisparranian Cancelliere made a public statement backing his northern partner.

Cisparrania, the historically Parthonopian republic placed between the modern Kingdom of Parthonopia and the Federal Republic of Meronnia, has experienced a tense and frenetic modern political history, as tensions tear the republic between competing interests of republicanism and risorgiomento. Since 2014, the man riding the Cisparranian bull, and dragging the state towards an independent position, has been Chancellor Oddone Marcel.

An anti-Carlo proponent of democracy in Orthuria, Marcel has relied on the support of his northern neighbour many times since his election, and he has presided over a renaissance of relations between Meronnia and Cisparrania after the century-long friendship had been called into question by moves to realign the state with a reunited Parthonopia in the early 2010s; moves quashed as the Parthonopian Commonwealth evolved towards the monarchy of today.

Cisparrania is a key stakeholder in political proceedings in Orthuria with a vested interest in the maintenance of peace in the peninsula, a goal in which the republic has fallen back on Meronnian intervention for more than once. Now, with their primary representative on the stage of regional powers seemingly excluded from a significant conference likely to hold implications for the future of the Orthurian region, Cisparrania has kicked up a storm.

Chancellor Marcel issued a polemic to media today, strongly criticizing the exclusion of Meronnian representatives from a supposedly pan-Liran conference about accused nuclear theft by the Kingdom of Parthonopia. Marcel exclaimed that the move was an attack on Cisparranian interests, which are frequently represented in international conferences by the Federal Republic, and affirmed in no uncertain terms that Cisparrania would only abide by an agreement which their regional sponsor was party to.

This is a significant step forward in Meronnian-Cisparranian relations, which have often relied on unspoken assumptions in the past that have today been clarified in the words of the Cisparranian head of state. Marcel's speech also comes only days after a memorandum of understanding between his government and the office of President Lajoie on an expanded program of military cooperation, which is likely to see Meronnian surplus equipment funneled into the Cisparranian defense force.

This evening, on a mandatory emergency broadcast across all networks, King Carlo sat for a one-on-one interview with Emilia Margara, chief political television correspondent for La Nazione. The interview was swiftly organized, at the behest of the Castello d'Cormor, shortly after the release of newly elected Meronnian President Lajoie's statements on their nationally syndicated network Mèronie 24.

Following the February 6 military parade in Ancona where previously unknown missile systems were unveiled, King Carlo and the Parthonopian government have fielded cries of concern and outrage from the international community. There has yet to be any official condemnations or new sanctions introduced by foreign states nor international organizations. Staffers from the Castello d'Cormor implied that there may be private discussions through back channels ongoing behind the scenes, so far only one foreign head of state has made any official public statements or moves concerning the news out of Ancona.

This morning during a press conference, first term Meronnian President, Augustin Lajoie, only just assuming the office in late November 2020, levied several dramatic and out of hand accusations and reversed carefully curated foreign policy that had been previously settled between King Carlo and Meronnian First Deputy Maximilien Sardou. In response, King Carlo ordered this exclusive interview, to be broadcast publicly and directed at Lajoie. Below is a transcript of said interview, edited in part for brevity, clarity, and context.

EMILIA MARGARA: Good evening your majesty, King Carlo, it is a pleasure to be speaking with you. I want to first, thank you, sir, for having me here and for allowing La Nazione to do this interview.

KING CARLO: No, no, Emilia - may I, may I call you Emilia?

EM: Yes, sir, yes of course.

KC: Thank you. Well, Emilia, it is you whom I should be thanking. Thank you for coming and for being able to do this under such short notice. La Nazione's journalism is renown and an asset- just as you are- an asset to this great nation. Further, I want to go further and extend my gratitude to the people of Parthonopia- to the people tuned in, I am grateful to have your ear tonight.

EM: As I am sure they are grateful to hear from you. Well, moving on, I am also sure, as is on everyone's mind, I would like to discuss some of the recent revelations that are shaking the headlines. President Lajoie, for example, and reactions to the Feb. 6 military parade.

KC: Of course.

EM: Well, for starters, lets talk about the missiles. Footage from the event clearly shows that there were eight of them, large sized missiles, carried on trucks. This number was confirmed later by some of the speakers after the parade. There has yet to be any confirmation as to their capabilities, or even if they are functional. What, exactly, were they? Is the military in possession of more of them?

KC: Yes, lets talk about the missiles. What you saw, what the world saw that day, were prototypes. They were there at that parade to highlight some of the recent advancements made by our military and the science community. They were mockups, early stage versions of shells of what some of our future endeavors make look like. It's in the nation's best interests to possess whatever means of defense that we can acquire, whatever means of offense our potential enemies may already have. It is well known that multiple, historically belligerent nations are confirmed to own stockpiles, hordes of, nuclear warheads.

EM: Were they nuclear, the missiles displayed the other day, were they nuclear weapons? Are they functional?

KC: No. I can confirm, personally, that those eight missiles were not nuclear. Let me repeat, really drive home this truthful certainty, I can say clearly and unequivocally that those missiles were not nuclear. I cannot speak to the functionality of the weapons shown, or the Kingdoms capabilities with such elaborate weapons, that would be confidential information which if exposed could put our brave servicemen in harm's way. What I can say is that everyday brave soldiers, honoring and serving this great, fresh nation of ours- of the Parthonopian peoples- they serve everyday to keep us all safe, serve in the best interests of us all. They risk their lives daily, even more so in this age of ever increasing aggressions and reckless leadership abroad. Just look at the deterioration north of the Aniene. What these weapons are, they show the future of the defense of our people and our future. A future were we have the capabilities of deploying such weapons is a more peaceful future, and one where less of our young boys are necessary to devote their youth to the defense of Parthonopia. What we saw the other day was highlighting this fact, a presentation of how far Parthonopia has come.

EM: Where were they produced? It has been insinuated that, by Lajoie, that they may have been 'stolen'. That is a very serious accusation, do you wish to shed some light on that? Perhaps respond on the merit of such claims, put to rest any rumors.

KC: I cannot respond to where, but a very serious accusation- that was a very serious accusation. Completely false, of course, Parthonopian Armed forces are not in the business of stealing nuclear weapons, which sounds like a the plot of a fiction novel. Perhaps Lajoie read one too many of them, or mixed up an action movie with his daily briefing. Who knows? I cannot go into specifics but I can say that much of what was seen was produced right here in Parthonopia, and what wasn't was purchased abroad, in the same means that much of the equipment of the Legion was acquired. I cannot understate the ridiculousness of what Lajoie implied. Stealing nuclear weapons? It is almost mad, really- where would you even be able to do such a thing? Of course, who could forget that actual terroristic armed groups were able to potentially seize warheads during Winst's civil conflict last year. But please, the Meronnian President can divert attention and spread falsehoods that the Kingdom may have done such a thing. It is false, an outright, lie, and rather sad trick to spin.

EM: With that said, lets discuss the comments he made this morning. I'd like to read an excerpt of President Lajoie's comments on M24 today... "The Duke of Ancona has made tyrannical theater for"... Soo, those words are heavy. The article- from M24- seems like a bit of a sucker punch. The title, even, set an aggressive tone, using a direct quote of Lajoie's: "There is no Kingdom of Parthonopia." - That seems like a bit of an outrageous claim. What would you like to say about it?

KC: So he does not recognize the Kingdom of Parthonopia, that is what I took from that. What he certainly intended it to mean. This a young man you see, completely new to an office of such power and the exposure that comes with it. Maybe he does not yet realize it, but what he says matter. Perhaps he is just painfully inexperienced. Or he may have meant what he said, and that, that is another thing. He referred to me as Duke Carlo, Duke, it is on perhaps. He tries to take away from me by removing my rightful title. The Wintonians did the same thing for years- first when it was Prince- and then King, until talks following the Weeklong War. Talks where they recognized the legitamacy of this nation. It matters not what they call me or if he recognizes legality- the Kingdom of Parthonopia is here, the world knows it, and she is a whirlwind, a force to be reckoned. We were not considered legitimate before, but our prowess and might forced it so. Now nations across the globe recognize our sovereignty.

EM: What would you say to Lajoie?

KC: First I would welcome Lajoie to the international stage, haha! After all, even I, the Kingdom in its infancy, have had a longer time working in international diplomacy than he. First I would welcome him and then I would say this: I am not afraid of you. You may say what you wish, and accept whatever consequences it incurs, but I will not be scared. Parthonopia may not exist legitimately in your mind but in reality she exists. In reality the Kingdom exists, as a united front, and I am the King. I am not an Irpanese rebel that can be strongarmed into bending down before Meronnia's will. I will not be sidelined by silver-tongued Meronnian diplomats thinking they can bully me into submission. I would remind Lajoie that his equal in governance, the First Deputy, he recognizes Parthonopia's legitimacy. I would remind him that Sardou, and his government behind him, that Lajoie represents a nation that legally, outright, signed an agreement which officially recognized Parthonopia.

EM: Speaking of the First Deputy Sardou, he has not spoken out himself so far. I know you two are acquainted, having worked together on the Senone Conference in Jan. 2020. Has he been in contact, have you two spoken since Saturday?

KC: No, unfortunately, we have not. First Deputy Sardou has not reached out, and I am concerned with his silence on the fissure Lajoie is creating in our two nation's relationship. I am confident, though, that he will say something yet. If not, I am concerned that Meronnian and Parthonopian relations are in even more dire straits than that was previously assumed.

EM: Where do things go from here?

KC: At this stage it is a wait and see. So far Lajoie has been the only voice that has outright said or done anything about the parade. While I can go on about the lunacy of such bluster over a simple parade, I would be naïve to say that further official reactions, and possible sanctions, are imminent. So what happens from here is to wait for whatever condemnations may be slung my way and stay in contact with our allies in the meantime. There is nothing to do about Lajoie's comments, so far they are just that- vitriolic, blustering comments. No action. Until his words are acted upon, in the form of policy in his nation, then they are nothing but words and we can do nothing but laugh at the farce. Laugh and remind them that actions have consequences.

EM: Are you confident in the present direction the Kingdom is going in? How are the political currents moving?

KC: I am more than confident, we have accomplished a lot in a short amount of time. We only keep accomplishing things. Our armed forces are some of the most formidable on Olympia. The Kingdom has allies now, the world over. Our economy is humming and continuing to expand. The political currents are another story, however. As is Liran tradition, the waters of diplomacy on this continent resemble that of storms rather than a calm, clear day. Parthonopia can weather that storm, however, and I say it with certainty. I have worked to improve cold relations with competitors and have made closer ties to those who already considered us friends. Where improvements can be made, we will make them.

EM: Lajoie's statements were insulting, to say the least, and could be taken rather offensively, by multiple nations even. Is there any room for improvement in relations with Meronnia at this point?

KC: Of course there is, but there is only so much I can do to make that happen. In order for improvement to pass there, there needs to be reciprocation. One way to streamline a return to friendly terms is if Sardou, as I said before, were to reach out to me. Him or their Foreign Minister, though it would be better received if from Sardou. That is only a first step of course, but the first step must be taken before you begin to walk. If I were not to hear from him in a timely fashion, I will reach out myself, but I do hope the rest of the Meronnian government is not as foolhardy as their new President. I hope that reason prevails there, at the end of the day.

Our goals, views, and philosophies have aligned in the past and our peoples have worked together striving to achieve these things. In 2013, which seems to feel to have been both decades ago and yet only the passing of a few months, the Commonwealth of Parthonopia was officially declared. A coalition of almost all of the Parthonopian states in Orthuria came together and determined to work hand in hand towards a common goal. I was made a first among equals to act as a figurative executive of this alliance, from there propelled upon a course of destiny that would lead to my coronation as the monarch of a Kingdom of Parthonopia. That course of destiny would further carry me through the passing of time and the history it would behold. That destiny plotted the course, each decision and action determining what path, and that would lead me to this moment; penning this address to you, Kaiserin of the Matriarchy.

Please excuse me for the history lesson, I surely doubt your need for it; I prefer to assume that the leader of such an established nation is well versed in the nature and context of her continent's diaspora. It would, however, be a regret for me were I to assume, though, and that not to have been the case. Therefore I am obligated to remind her majesty of this verifiable fact: in 2013 Kaiserin Theodora, your mother, was a proponent of the Commonwealth and intended to support that organization's end goal, the Kingdom of Parthonopia that exists today. It is also a fact that not since the early 1500's has there been a war fought where Lunders battled Parthonopians. There has been a litany of wars fought on our continent in the hundreds of years that have passed since then; not once had any Parthonopian state of its own volition combatted the Matriarchy. This is historical precedent to the nature of our people's mutual appreciation. It is within this context and the memory of this spirit from the days gone by that I am distressed by the vision of the future that you appear to have been cultivating over recent years.

I wish to consider myself, and by extension my nation, as reasonable. I believe this virtue has been abundantly clear from the calm, measured responses from Parthonopia towards your nation since your coronation. Internal politics within Lunderfrau are none of my concern, nor is what her majesty does during her free time. These supposed scandals overshadowed what ever accomplishments you may have actually gotten around to during the early years of your tenure. With these distractions occurring at home it was understandable that a monarch, so fresh with such a tremendous increase in responsibilities, it is understandable the growing pains that your foreign affairs were feeling. Now, six years into your reign, some of the slights to my people and my nation cannot be ignored much longer.

The Kingdom of Parthonopia, established before the eyes of God, was declared in December of 2018, three years into your role as Kaiserin. The firsts words you spoke during your original reception to the news of my peoples triumphant reunification seemed to inspire a sense of hope, a prospective future involving cooperation and good faith. “Lunderfrau and Parthonopia have a long history of peace, prosperity and cooperation with one another, a relationship I hope King Carlo is willing to continue in this brave new world we face.” I was indeed willing, and ready, to not only continue this relationship but to improve it. Less than two weeks later, eleven days, you planted the first seed that led me to believe this was a false hope. An official document, detailing a renewed stance between Lunderfrau and Produzland, was released by your foreign ministry. The statement was made in direct reference to the Kingdom, and implied Parthonopian aggression towards Produzland. There was a point being made in renewing this stance and outright declaring support behind the Produese, the point of which was to intimidate my nation. To insinuate our intention of belligerence. The point was moot, there were no warplans in place in regards to reclaiming territory illegally occupied by the Produese, but the insult had been documented.

Your address, in which you referenced a long history of peace, prosperity and cooperation, was just over two years ago. I specifically mentioned the length of time you have been Kaiserin, and the time that has passed with the existence of the Kingdom, as there have been no further overtures from you, or your government, since. What has been done in those years can be described as nothing less than the degradation of Lunder foreign policy. Historical enemies of the Matriarchy, nations that have built nuclear weapons enough to burn this hemisphere, nations such as the Republics of Winst and Meronnia, have received more attention from your majesty in this timeframe than nations which you shared a bond prior. The Kaiserin has never had the pleasure of being hosted in Ancona, nor has there been invitation extended for myself to Laubenhugel. She has, however, traveled to Winst, a nation so fiercely opposed to the Matriarchy that just her presence on Wintonian soil alone was cause for their war flag to be raised, the Republic's title changed from Plutocratic to Revolutionary. Strides made with Meronnia in cooperation vastly outweigh the pitiful scraps extended towards the Kingdom. Make no mistake, increased democratization in Lunderfrau is not a threat to us. Further ties and commitments to peace and prosperity, across the continent we share, is not a threat. What is a threat is the belligerent nature presented to the Kingdom, the removal of meaningful diplomatic courses of action, and the further vilification of Parthonopia.

There are means of which an improvement can be made. History is not finished being written and time remains for you change your course. Steer history, and your legacy, in the direction of prosperity and peace, a direction entailing and equitable and fair outcome. The first step, an inconsequentially simple one, towards renewing our bond would be for you to come out personally with an official document stating you're continued pledge of recognizing the legality and, more importantly, sovereignty of the Kingdom of Parthonopia. From there is many choices that could be made to further repair relations as well as strengthen our ties. These are simply ideas, solutions that would require discussions and compromise, but these are issues they are solvable and which I am willing to discuss and find those compromises. The Revolutionary Republic of Winst, an inherent enemy of peace in Lira, must be recognized as the threat it is. Further cozying with blatant threats only helps to lessen your position in the politics of our age. Entering into an official alliance with self proclaimed enemies of ours cannot be ignored as another clueless slight, as the rest of the diplomatic blunders have been written off as. Signing onto organizations such as the Entente des Consentants or Republican Security Pact would be an insufferable action and I stress you avoid doing so.

I have made sure that the current President of the Republic of Winst, still licking the wounds of the bloody year past, was included as a recipient of this message. This is so Ms. Michelle Tourne, still wielding her power under martial law with a similar degree of flexibility as you or I have, can read for herself this statement: there is room for cooperation, for us all to work jointly towards peace, but there is a boundary as to what is acceptable. Disrespect towards the legality of my nation, questions as to the legitimacy of Parthonopia's sovereignty, are unacceptable. President Tourne's nation recognized the Kingdom in the past, peace was bargained; there is chance yet to ensure the continuation of those conclusions. This message is a direct response towards the recent joint statement, led by her majesty the Kaiserin, and thus it is important for its signees to be addressed. I believe a peaceable solution is viable, and I believe our nations can cooperate together. However, there is a bar that must be reached, a standard, for me to engage. This standard was not met by President Lajoie of Meronnia with his statements rescinding recognition. This is why their inclusion in this address is missing. There is still room to work, however, between us.

Unreasonable demands which compromise my nation's safety and puts into question our sovereignty are not a means of which to improve a relationship. Insinuations that the Kingdom would engage in heinous, criminal acts, such as the unthinkable act of stealing nuclear weapons of mass destruction, is unacceptable. With that said, this is as much of a response as I can warrant at this time. I cannot confirm or deny acceptance of your demands issued in the joint statement. What I can offer is to be reasonable and openminded and engage in meaningful, good faith diplomacy to find an equitable solution and talk out whatever ailments plague our relations. I, as have most of the leaders of our majestic continent, have received Sylvakian President Cernik's invitation to the summit in Karlovice. I intend to be there and it is at this event that I believe should be the venue of which we discuss our terms. Address your concerns further there, Kaiserin, and let us begin a transition towards a peaceful, prosperous, and cooperative future in Karlovice.

It was a beautiful day, the sun shining over the park as children played in the fields, trees swaying with the breeze coming off the Rosel. A little girl ran kicking a ball through the green grass, no worry, no pain, only a childlike bliss. Little did children have to think beyond the moment they lived in, Ackesia a peaceful nation largely free of strife and hardships. Yet on that day a dark cloud invisible to the naked eye was about to set in, one children could not conceive, its construct that of humanity’s pension for its own self destruction.

“Michael! Catch!” A young girl pranced across the field before throwing wicket ball. The park she played in situated in the middle of high rises at the heart of Beldon, the capital of Ackesia. Life was good in young Delia’s eyes, hardships unseen were hardships unthought. Kicking the ball back and forth between her friends the girl would soon learn of problems that manifest not of her or anyone she knows doing, but rather those that were shared by all of mankind.

“Delia!!” A terrifying cry came across the field. There were many tones and inflections her mother’s voice manifested itself in. A stern tone when called for dinner, a loud and commanding tone when she did wrong, a spirited and joyus tone for when she did good. But no tone causes pause in the little girl like the shrill tone of terror her mother reserved for moments of uncertainty and fear. Freezing in her tracks the girl turned to her mother who ran faster than she ever saw towards her, her hand grabbing her upper arm harshly as she began to pull her away.

“Momma! Momma!” Delia cried, her mothers grip too hard as she began to run again, Delia’s legs almost unable to keep up. Looking up to her mother, pleading for reprieve she saw tears on her cheeks, and inexplicable horror in her eyes. They ran across the field and to the streets, there Delia saw more people running, few holding each other, and some broken down in the same horror that gripped her mother.

As they ran the cries of the city echoed off of buildings as a general panic spread. Delia’s grew more and more afraid as she did not understand why such emotion and gripped those around her. They began to pass one of her favorite places, a corner shop bakery that cooked the best Mucenici, a special treat her mother would buy on occasion.

Delia could taste the honey bread in her mouth as they passed, its smell wafting around the streets. Yet there was no long line today, instead those not running gathered closely around a TV near the entrance, the voices of the news reporter booming as all listened intently. Delia could only hear parts of what was said as her mother dragged her running past, a man making the sign of beo over his heart while listening…

“... we can confirm.” The newsman’s voice was shaky. “... that Burlon… Senone… and Silvus are gone…”

Delia had only begun to learn basic geography, the names familiar to her but unsure what it all meant. The news man’s lips kept moving, but for a brief second there was no sound until a sharp chime rang across all television screens, cell phones, and radios.

The chime was not musical, it did not relax the senses or bring about any particular emotion, only that of anxiety in the girls mind.

“The Ackesian Emergency Management Center has issued a Ballistic Missile Warning…” the robotic voice recited plainly. Delia’s mother’s pace quickened, but there was nowhere to run where the metallic words could jot be heard; the city around them fell into a frenzy. “... shelter in place… this is not a drill… repeat, the Ackesian Emergency Management Center has issued a Ballistic Missile Warning…”

“Ballistic…. missile?” She paroted the words unfamiliar to her tongue as she huffed and puffed running alongside her mother. Could this be why mommy was crying?

Over the cries of the city a siren joined the symphony, the loud hum sang from speakers all around as the citizens of Beldon united to cry out in terror. Delia’s mother stopped running, a sign hopefully that it was all over.

“Is it done mommy?” Delia smiled as her mother crouched down to her, holding her daughter tightly.

“Yes…” Her mother brushed the back of her head with a maternal touch. “Yes baby girl it's all over.”

Delia was happy, she saw many people embracing each other, glad that it was done now, she could go back and play.

Her mother held her once more, Delia felt her tears along her neck, tears of joy she thought.

There was then a flash, followed by dark.

“MOMMA!”

A young girl shot up in bed, sweat permeating her bedsheets and pajamas as she began to cry. Dreams were a cruelty to a child, their ability to understand what they saw in the netherworld of their sleep limited, but the horrors no less impactful.

Mother and father rush in, the door flying open as they answer their child’s scream with parental haste. Finding their daughter in bed unharmed settled their worst fears, yet the untold trauma of her face still concerned. For now they embraced her, reassuring her that nothing could hurt her there in her own bed at home.

In the corner of the room a man, dressed in suit and tie, sitting on a wooden chair. He watched the scene stoically, invisible to the other occupants. He was just a casual observer. Turning towards you his face was unmoved by the tears of the young girl. His eyes are passionless as he begins to address you.

“Ignorance comes in many forms, that of the blissful ignorance of a child innocent to the evils of men, but also the ignorance of nations wielding power beyond their ability to contain...”

A spine chilling melody of high pitched tones begins to play.

“...As young Delia lays in bed tonight, the creeping dreams laced with unknown fear taking hold of her, she may ultimately wake up safe in bed, but at any given minute the decisions of distant men could ensure she does not wake up from that place of her dreams… the twilight zone.”

King Carlo proofreading a symbolic invitation letter to host King Erramun and Annamaria.

Recent rumors have been proven true: news broke from the Castello d'Cormor today that King Carlo's eldest daughter, Annamaria, will be returning home in the near future. Princess Annamaria, the Queen Consort of Boaga, will be visiting her childhood home alongside her husband, King Erramun XII, the sovereign of Boaga. There had been chatter about the potential of some sort of formal meeting, which King Carlo confirmed with a press conference today where he presented and sent a formal written invitation to the monarchs. The King and Queen of Boaga are expected in Ancona this following Saturday, February 20.

The invitation displayed today was largely a symbolic gesture, King Carlo revealing that plans for the visit had been made prior and preparations for it already underway. King Carlo confirmed that he had personally reached out to his son-in-law, calling King Erramun after the Boaga Bulletin article was published. In that article it was reported that the Boagan King had stood up for King Carlo following the offensive remarks from Meronnian President Lajoie, making a public statement from the Royal Palace of Baratza condemning the rhetoric. Grateful for the unsolicited defense, King Carlo wished to extend his thanks and gratitude over the phone immediately.

Lajoie's infamous commentary had questioned the legitimacy of the Kingdom and of King Carlo's position; a thought that the Boagan royalty took offense to. Illegitimacy of King Carlo's office implies the illegitimacy of Annamaria's royal status and saying so is therefore a slight against her husband as well.

“The position of the Kingdom of Boaga is that Carlo is the King of Parthonopia, and my wife, Queen Annamaria, is a Princess of Parthonopia. Neither I, nor our people will suffer insults against the Queen, her father or her nation. That is where I draw the line."

King Erramun's response to Lajoie's disparaging statements was swift and formidable. Without stooping to Lajoie's level and spreading further slander or speaking with such vitriolic outbursts as the Meronnian President had, King Erramun gave a measured response; standing by his wife, father-in-law, and restating his nation's recognition of the Kingdom of Parthonopia. The impetus behind Lajoie's original comments, and King Erramun's subsequent statement, is the outrage caused by the February 6 military parade in Ancona. Lajoie is not alone in speaking out about the sighting of potential ballistic missiles, several international heads of state taking a position on the ongoing situation.

King Carlo told the press conference today that the recent revelations and his private phone call were the catalyst for initiating this visit. He insisted that this visit is more than that, however, and that recent events only encouraged him to host the Boagan King and Queen by reminding him of the importance of close contact and cooperation with friends and family. The initial itinerary has the visiting monarchs guesting at the Castello d'Cormor for three days. During that timeframe there will be a full scale state dinner, a reception gala, and private time for the family. This will be the first trip to Ancona for the Boagan royal couple since King Carlo's coronation in December 2018.

This was not the only state visit presented involving King Carlo this week. Yesterday the Prime Minister of Produzland, Ricardo Bonadeo, extended an invitation to the Parthonopian King, for him to visit at the Porduzi king's residence in Burlon. This invitation had been made public from the start, being reported on multiple Porduzi networks yesterday evening. Bonadeo denied that the cause behind requesting this visit was due to the missiles, however, due to the more than coincidental timing, it is extremely likely that this is the case. Instead, the Porduzi government cited that Bonadeo wished to discuss, in person, matters of current Liran affairs and geopolitics. If it were the case that the outrage over the missiles were the cause, as is likely, that would make Produzland yet another nation to publicly disapprove. Bonadeo would join several other heads of state concerned over the display, with even the Boagan King making a point of stating his support for non proliferation. This would, however, make Bonadeo the first to take any concrete action towards addressing the topic.

King Carlo addressed Porduzi invitation at today's press conference, stating that he would unfortunately be unable to attend such a visit in the timeframe originally proposed by Produzland. "I did, very much, enjoy my time with [Prime Minister Bonadeo] in Senone. It is a shame I will be unavailable to do so again at this moment. All is not quiet on the home front, my presence is required here. There are many things to be dealt with right now that, as much as I would love to, prevent me having the luxury to travel to Burlon."

Citing the short notice of the invitation and the necessity for his presence at home, King Carlo offered an apology to the Porduzi. He specifically thanked Bonadeo for the offer, during the news brief, offering in return to take up the invitation at another date when some of the current waves have settled. The proposed state visit was supposed to occur some time next week. King Carlo did not outright decline the invitation, however, and insisted that while he cannot make it, his eldest son, King Filip of Arideo, could attend in his place. There has yet to be a response as to whether or not the Porduzi would be willing to meet with Filip instead of Carlo.

The rest of the press conference focused on the preparations for the Boagan state visit. King Carlo seemed cheerful about the event when discussing it, visibly excited to host his daughter and her royal husband. If Filip, King of Arideo following his marriage to Queen Amadalia last year, were to be welcomed to take Carlo's place for the Porduzi state visit, he would be expected to return to Ancona during the Boagan visit. This would make the first full reunion of Ciaia royal family in the last three years since his three eldest children have been living abroad.

"Family, above all else, is the most important treasure anyone can possess. To live without that blessing is to live a miserable life. So I am thankful, and thank Beo everyday, that I was so abundantly blessed with such a large, beautiful family. It will be wonderful to have all my kids home once again, together. I know their little brothers and sisters will be more than happy to spend some time with them."

On the Subject of Self Determination and the Rights of the Accused
13th of February, 2021

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN,

Dear esteemed leaders of Lira and the world; I write this correspondence as a chain of events and the current course of international affairs necessitates it. This is intended to address two paramount ideas that are integral to maintaining the structure of the foundations we have built our nations, and modern society, upon. There are two inalienable rights of which I refer to, that under circumstances such as those we now find ourselves facing seem to stand for the same ideals. Self determination, in the context of which it is applied here, refers to the inherent right for a country to define the process of, determine its own statehood and form its own allegiances and government. It is paramount that we all may be able to agree upon such simple facts. I pointedly bring up the definition in order to remind my counterparts, the world over, that this idea is the bedrock of the modern nation state. Disagreements between one nation and another in regards to their own interpretation of self determination has caused strife and grief aplenty in the past. I warn, today, that I fear we are currently embarking upon a course similar to that which our ancestors did a century ago.

The Rights of the Accused entail in Parthonopia, as is common practice in the courts of many nations abroad, that one accused of a crime is not officially guilty until proven so by legitimate and just means. This is done in order to protect the sacredness of ones reputation and ensure the innocent are just that unless proven otherwise. There are occasions when one whom has committed no crimes, done no wrongs, and is perhaps even the victim, but is declared a criminal, a perpetrator. The rights safeguarded for the accused ensures that one may not find themselves in such a situation and unable to escape it. If these rights were not in place, it is a swift transition to vigilante justice and accusatory sentencing; truthfulness or innocence matter not, all that does is if you were accused. That is what has happened this past week. Leaders the world over have outright declared their disdain for these premises, self determination and rights of the accused.

I will spare you a diatribe on the irrelevance of the reasoning behind multiple international states and organizations demanding outrageous breaches upon my nation's sovereignty. The sore point is clear and half the world has gotten caught up putting their nose deep into the internal affairs of the Parthonopian people. There was a military parade and recent advancements of the Parthonopian Armed Forces were put on display. What has followed has been unwarranted and in some cases down right slanderous. I have received the declarations, joint statements, condemnations, and invitations. Further actions must be taken in order resolve some of the concerns raised by various different administrations and this address is, by no means, the end all, be all response.

First, and foremost, I want to put to rest the outrageous, incredibly slanderous claims that have been levied against myself and the proud Parthonopian people. Multiple foreign representatives and news networks have continued to allege that the Kingdom of Parthonopia was behind the disappearance of Wintonian nuclear weapons in May of last year, during the volatile breakdown of stability in the Plutocratic Republic. The rights of the accused were blatantly and purposefully ignored when, without due process or even an attempt to verify this salacious claim, these disturbing lies were taken as the verifiably truthful facts. Those are not the facts and further assumption that they are, despite proof otherwise, will not be accepted. I wish to believe that all of those who may take the time to read this message, as a representative of their respective nation, work on the behalf of a better future. In a better future, governments are capable of cooperating, working and coming together. This is impossible when my nation and myself are engaged in bad faith.

I have, as have the rest of the leaders of the continent I call home, been beckoned by the Sylvakian President Cernik to heed the call of peace and prosperity. The invitation to Karlovice has been accepted and I intend to see many of you there. At this momentous summit, aptly coined the Congress of Lira, there is a glowing opportunity to turn the tides and deadly current away from the destiny of war it seems we are currently heading towards today. More can be accomplished together than when we work against each other. I hope and pray that the same call is answered by all who may believe themselves to be righteous and just. There, in Karlovice, the intricacies and specifics of the various demands and terms presented to me may be discussed in detail, compromises negotiated. Until that time, I can promise no further response or official word on the subject, out side of this communication, unless new revelations warrant such.

I wish to now directly respond to the Joint Declaration effort towards non proliferation spearheaded by the Oceanian President Danielle Martinez. I must offer my sincerest compliments to the Oceanian leadership for organizing the document and its presentation. Signed onto by governments the world over, it was by far the most impressive statement I have received so far. It was presented with the diplomacy and class expected of international leadership, something others have been lacking as of late, specifically one of the signatories of said document. I must state publicly that the Kingdom of Parthonopia has an interest in non proliferation and is in full support of attaining many of the same goals established in there. Where I am discomforted, however, is when my nation's sovereignty is called into question, our integrity assumed to be nonexistent, and all of this done as if there were to be no consequence. I was in support for the calls to action made until the third point, when international inspectors were introduced. Oversight is a necessary tool but at this stage a line I cannot allow to be crossed.

Might I remind the world, which seems to be so forgetful of our shared history, of the heinous, horrid crimes against humanity that have been committed at the hands of the Wintonian and Meronnian Republics. These two belligerent nations, ones who have spearheaded efforts of their own to condemn Parthonopia for alleged possession of nuclear missiles, are both proliferators of the potentially world ending weaponry. Both of these nations, supposed role models in the international community, more often than not simply prefer to be bullies instead. In all of human history here on Olympia, only twice have nuclear warheads been detonated outside of testing purposes. The people of Al-Meriq and of Kiteahu do not forget this fact, the image of the devastation wrought upon them forever burned into the collective memory of their nations. There has been more backlash and outrage directed towards the Kingdom due to libelous claims of theft yet not a word spoken of how the nation pushing this falsehood was so reckless, unstable, and irresponsible that it was able to so easily lose such highly destructive assets. To not know where these missiles may have ended up seems to be the more dreadfully frightening thought. In a sane world this crisis would be the more critical threat that a solution must be worked towards. Instead I find myself writing a series of responses fighting off obvious lies.

With this in mind I can wholeheartedly say that I posses the will power and perseverance to pursue non proliferation. I will not do so at the expense of my people, however. Claims of Parthonopian possession of nuclear weapons are just that, claims. Whether or not inspectors will be extended an invitation into this nation depends upon how the subsequent talks to come in the following weeks pan out. If we are not engaged with good faith and a common goal of peace, then I cannot abide by the insults so lightly tossed my way. There already exists a nuclear triad in Lira; Wintonia, Meronnia, and Lunderfrau all possess weaponry capable of the deaths of millions. This is proven, admitted facts. If there is such a forceful push to infringe upon the Kingdom in order to achieve this goal, you best damn well be assured that the Triad face this same push. Parthonopian self determination comes first before bowing to globalist goals; non proliferation is a goal but not a goal worth achieving if the cost is to hand over my nation and my people's destiny.

Or that was how I addressed you when we last met, back in 2014, when I declined the post of the Inspector of the Artillery of the Legion. It was about a couple of months before your wife passed away and not long before I had to flee the reborn Kingdom. We both know the reason for that very well so I will not reiterate it; instead, I say that I do not regret my decision, and that I have found my own way of how to restore Parthonopia to its rightful place under the sun as the ultimate power of Orthuria. I only regret I could not find it earlier, when it mattered. But what happened, happened.

Truth be told, I would not have written this letter at all if it weren't for the recent developments. I have nothing to say to You personally that cannot be said by an artillery brigade in action. But as my thoughts drifted towards Parthonopian people again, I have to write this, not hoping You would stoop down to reply.

First of all, allow me to congratulate you with acquisition of what is thought here to be sevral intermediate-range ballistic missiles. Whether they were stolen or not is inconsequential ─ although I myself doubt Parthonopia could pull over the construction of IRBMs, even with Aridite military industry in mind. Fact is, the Legion obtained them, and that alone is worthy of respect.

My second point concerns rumors of those IRBMs being armed with nuclear warheads from Winst. I will not make guesses whether they are true or not or how those rumors are going to be used. By the time this letter finds you ─ if it finds you ─, we both will know the answers to that. Without much ado and leaving all the explanations for Your intelligence to recover, I would like to warn you that it is well within the power of the Liran nuclear triad to produce not only nuclear weapons but also a shield from them, meaning they will be able to strike at Parthonopia with impunity. The MAD you may try achieve with those missiles will become nothing more than a mirage ─ but if you defend your cities so that no missile comes through, then nothing will stop the downfall of those cowards.

And as I have long insisted, Your Highness, if it means wiping Parthonopia to oblivion for eternity, Liran politicians will trade a million or two of their civilians and a couple of their cities. They hate us and they will hate us, monarchist or republican, liberal or socialist, they hate us and they will hate us until Beo's good time all nation-states cease to exist. We're a cog in the wheel of globalists, an obstacle for lining their pockets and the only one standing against moral decadence. Only TSPR can stand beside us and Lirans here don't suffer from the near-pathological Parthophobia, for the one true socialism cures from neoliberal globalism and false nationalism, binding classes together into one indivisible nation. If it wasn't for Risorgimento falling to anti-intellectual barbarism I'm certain us two would be standing together still against the rot, Your Highness.

Tread lightly, prepare to defend yourself and take care of the Parthonopia. Neither of our visions has it a ruined wasteland ─ but one day we will meet in battle and find who is right not like cowardly politicians but like true children of Orthuria.

Please relay my best regards to my son, Gianmarco, who had chosen to remain faithful to You and the I Corps of Esercito dell'Principato. I hope he could fulfill his aspirations of becoming an artillery commander without being overshadowed by his father's legacy. And also, to Grand Marshal Ongaro, who I hope to face one day on a battlefield with a legion of my own.

Parthonopian “Missile Parade” Prompts Concerns from RESP Allies Over Missile Defense

_{Defense Minister Morris Best} announced today the deployment of the ARM-Tafok Island to the western Rosel theater of operations at the request of RESP allies amid his ongoing tensions in the region. Concerns outlined by the defense minister include the reinforcement of anti-ballistic missile capabilities near the Kingdom of Produzland and the Republic of Winst after ballistic missiles were displayed in Ancona a week ago during a military parade honoring King Carlo. Such a display has drawn widespread criticism from the international community as well as speculation of whether or not King Carlo possesses the means to equip the missiles with a nuclear payload. These claims have widely been denied by the Kingdom of Pathonopia, but RESP leaders have remained unconvinced. The Deployment of the Tafok Island is seen as a measure to increase anti-ballistic missile capabilities in the region while showing a firm hand by the eastern most member of the security pact in the defense of its allies.

The Tafok Island is one of the largest surface combatants in the Republican Marine fleet, displacing 10,250 tons when fully loaded. It is equipped with the Carelian AEGIS Combat System, a multi-functional suite of electronic radar and targeting software that allows the Tafok Island to track and engage aerial targets, such as ballistic missiles. Coupled with AEGIS, it also features 96 cells of vertical launch system, many of which undoubtedly will be loaded with the Marine’s anti-ballistic missile SM-3 interceptor.

Minister Best when asked did not outline the specific route the Tafok Island would take as it sails near the Kingdom of Pathonopia, however he did state it would remain well within international waters. It is assumed the cruiser will deploy near the coastal border of Produzland and Pathonopia due to Ackesia’s ally being the nearest to a potential ballistic missile launch from the pariah state.

“The purpose of the Tafok Island’s presence is not to intimidate; rather it is to display the resolve of the Ackesian people to stand peaceably with their ally the Kingdom of Produzland, as well as demonstrate commitment to the joint anti-proliferation proclamation signed by the Greater Republic. The policy set by Beldon is that of zero-tolerance to the use of such weapons and we are committed to every effort to both counter and eliminate them where we can.”

Spokespersons for the Republican Marine stated that the Tafok Island arrived in the area of operation early Monday and began drilling to counter a ballistic missile launch. No timeframe for how long the cruiser will be forward deployed has been given, and no officials have stated if this is the only measure that will be taken as part of Ackesia’s commitment to the alliance.
