“Thank you, Miss Turgenova. Good evening Ohkhos, I am Felicity Fairdaney from the Corrish Broadcasting Corporation, and I am here to moderate the remainder of the debate.

For the second half of this debate the candidates will be debating the following topics:
  • Foreign Affairs
  • Stabilizing and Reunifying Ohkhos
There will also be two questions:
  • What experience qualifies you above your opponent for the presidency?
  • Is there anything you would like to say to your opponent tonight?

I would like to remind candidates that there is a two and a half minute speaking limit (OOC: ~325 words) and request that all remain civil.

With that out of the way, I would like to invite Daria Volegov to begin debating the first topic: Foreign Affairs."

"Thank you, and welcome Mrs. Fairdaney. I do not care for foreign squabbles, or for the internal problems of a foreign country. For my focus as President will be uniting this country and rebuilding it back better. Why should I care about something that does not Ohkhos when we have a nation is in need of dire help. Now that being said I will work with our allies for the betterment of our country. They can and God-willing they will help us achieve our goals, to unite our nation, to rebuild our nation, and to protect our nation. I will work with them to unify this nation as fast as possible. I will work with them to develop a comprehensive plan to protect and defend our nation. They have been so generous as to provide supports to our nations, and I will work with them to ensure that support continues, and I will work with any other nation that seeks to help and support us. I will work to open new avenues of trade for the people of Ohkhos, that will go hand in hand with my plans to develop and rebuild our economy. I will negotiate free trade agreements and I will seek to negotiate deals that benefit Ohkhos. That will be my foreign policy, a foreign policy that will benefit Ohkhos at every turn."

“My fellow Okhotskians, we live in the nation that the Akhenium Alliance restored, and the world helped to save. A world of democracy reborn and tyrants humbled. A world of innocents liberated and exiles come home. Still, there are challenged ahead. Defense must be the first focus of a President, because it is her first duty to her country. Even in this time of pride and promise, Okhotsk has determined enemies, who hate our values and resent our success – terrorists and slavers and fascists and deposed dictators such as Mr. Pozanskie, who is still at large. The war has passed, but evil remains. We must protect our homeland against terror, demagoguery and blackmail. We must restore the morale of our military—broken by shrinking resources and the infighting of the Civil War—with better recruiting, better training, better treatment and better pay. In the defense of our nation, a President must be a clear-eyed realist. I know that there are limits to the smiles and scowls of diplomacy. Armies and missiles are not stopped by stiff notes of condemnation, as international powers often fail to realize. They are held in check by strength and purpose and the promise of swift punishment. Okhotsk must be involved in the world. This doesn’t mean that foreign ties are the answer to every difficult policy situation—dependence is a poor substitute for strategy.

Okhotskian internationalism should not mean action without vision, activity without priority, and agreements without end—an approach that squanders Okhotskian will and drains Okhotskian energy. Okhotskian internationalism must concentrate on enduring national interests: working with our strong democratic allies to extend the peace; promoting a fully democratic Asia, bound together by free trade; checking the contagious spread of tyrannical ideologies. The President must lead toward a world that trades in freedom, and she must pursue all these goals with focus, patience and strength.”

"My first priority as President will be, my first campaign promise was, and my main policy proposal is for the reunification of Ohkhos as soon as possible. Unlike my opponent who proposes we wait 10 more years, 10 more years of being apart, 10 more years of developing different systems, 10 more years of being on the opposite side of a line, 10 more years of growing apart, 10 more years of difficulty coming back together. We cannot afford to wait that long, we must rebuild together because that is how we build a stronger nation, a united nation, a nation of free and equal citizens and equal opportunity, this is how we build a truly great nation. My opponent is in essence proposing that we rebuild differently in different structures with different governing models, but with that system we will never be truly united, we will not have equal opportunity for all, because during these crucial years we will have build different structures, different systems, and different models. Some might work better than others, some may be implemented nationally when we are unified, but those crucial 10 years we will have grown apart, some will be better off than others, and the gap, the differences may take generations to bridge. I will work with our liberators and convene a convention to agree upon terms for the reunification of Ohkhos by January 1, 2022, that convention will also work to produce with the input of the Ohkhoskalite people a constitution and bill of rights that will protect the people of Ohkhos. As soon as reunification is confirmed I will work to fund reconstruction programs across the country giving people and municipalities money to rebuild. I will pass legislation allowing this nation to undertake a massive infrastructure project making transportation easier and this nation more connected and united. I will work with our allies to build a comprehensive plan to protect the Ohkhoskalite people from the fascist rebels that still remain a threat to us today, and from any other threat we may face. This will involve a police force that interacts and works with the people of Ohkhos and a volunteer military. I will take your ideas and work with every single one of you to make our country a better place."

“I highly respect Mrs. Volegov, but I’m afraid she has no idea what she’s talking about. If she examined the Czekablnsk Accords plotted by the Akhenium Alliance, it’s clear that the military districting plan is just that—a plan which assigns military jurisdiction to different allies to organize a comprehensive territorial defense. We are not a divided country, as those boundaries are superficial. There isn’t a wall or border checkpoint between District V where I live and District I where you live Mrs. Volegov. The only difference is that there are soldiers from Akhenium helping us in my district, and soldiers from Hopal helping us in your district. Make no mistake Okhotsk, we are one country. Tonight, I will set the record straight. When my platform refers to “full reunification and independence by 2031”, it is referring to our goal to allow the Akhenium Alliance to gradually withdraw all forces over the next decade, and most importantly the reunification of all military districts under one military branch—our own national military. This is indeed a process which will take up to a decade, as we are having to rebuild our own military from scratch. It will take years to recruit, train and organize our own military in the aftermath of the Civil War, and the withdrawal of our allies from the districts must be cautious and gradual to prevent any shocks or power vacuum from developing which could threaten the peace. That is my plan: we will have full military reunification and military independence from our allies by 2031, and that would be at the very latest. I will also remind voters that our government will always have complete authority over all military districts over the coming years. Beginning with my election we will have a completely free and independent government which encourages free trade and represents a free and unified people.”

"While I hold Mrs. Turgenova in the highest esteem and thank her for what she did during the Ohkhoskalite Civil War, I believe that tonight I am the candidate that is the closest to the people. I lived and worked on my farm in rural Ohkhos for most of my life, living a quiet and peaceful life, working my best to do my job, just like so many of the people of Ohkhos. My husband and I we participated in the democratic process and made our voices heard when it mattered to us, but we mostly kept to ourselves. My husband thought it would be important to his voice heard after the oppression by Pozanskie, and he went to the capital and he was killed. The farm that we had lived on was seized by soldiers loyal to the Pozankie government, I was abused and I just barely made it out of that situation. I was helped by a total stranger who brought me to hospital, and I am forever indebted to him, I decided to volunteer at the hospital that had saved my life. I saw the devastation caused by this Civil War, I know the struggle of the Ohkhoskalite people, I lived it myself. I have seen the devastation, the destruction, the suffering, but I also know the strength and resilience that we have. I know that together we can rebuild, and that we can come out stronger than we were before. I will govern with the interests of the Ohkhoskalite people in mind."

“My fellow Okhotskians, the office of the Presidency requires tactfulness to deal with the weightiest crises and responsibilities. We need an experienced policymaker to rebuild our economy and cautiously govern. Stateless terrorists within our borders present a shadowy national security threat, and it is the president’s job to keep us all safe despite this threat. I imagine there will rarely be a day when one or more of these responsibilities don’t require the president’s immediate attention. Considering our large number of issues, we need a President with expertise; a President who knows exactly what she’s doing, not a President who requires a learning curve in public service. I greatly admire and relate to Mrs. Volegov and her resistance against Pozanskie’s tyranny—I myself was jailed several times for protesting—but she has never held an elected government office. In the area of policy making and government experience I hold the clear advantage. I was the popularly elected mayor of Poylaesk for six years, and helped improve the city’s development and reduced crime and urban sprawl. My experience in infrastructure projects in Poylaesk has given me the ability to draft and develop my own plan to rebuild Okhotsk’s war-torn cities. Let it also not be forgotten that I was one of the primary authors of the Declaration of Grievances to the Ohkhoskalite Parliament, demanding that a democratic election be held. To see that Declaration’s dream of a fair democratic election fulfilled couldn’t make me more proud of how far this nation has come since the days of the war.”

"Well first of all thank you for what you did in standing up for Pozanskie, I am sure that all of Ohkhos can thank you and respect you for that. I hope that however divisive this election may be, and however it play out, that in the election we can all come together to make our country, Ohkhos a better place. Democracy is not about determining what faction will be in power, or what portion of the population will be represented, it is about presenting ideas, debating them, letting the people choose which ideas they like best, and implementing all of the best ideas. I hope that you will govern by consensus representing all of the people of Ohkhos as President, taking the best of both of our ideas and putting them in place to represent all of Ohkhos. Power comes with it great responsibility, and I trust that if people of Ohkhos choose you can carry out those duties. But I hope that you may bring the people Ohkhos together and govern for all, I hope that you will try to fully unify Ohkhos as soon as possible. I hope that you will focus all of your attention, as necessary to rebuilding a better Ohkhos, I hope that you will put protections in place to preserve democracy and rights of people. It your decision Ohkhos, who do you what to lead you into this still young decade."

“Mrs. Volegov, thank you so very much. I promise that I will fulfill those wishes as president if I am to win this election. Now, as for you yourself I must say that I am glad that I am on this stage with someone as civil, respectful and trustworthy as you. You might have beliefs I disagree with, and you might not have the same experiences I have had, but you too stood up to Pozanskie’s tyranny. You are very strong, and you never gave up, even when your husband died for his beliefs. Because of your resistance and because of your understanding of the common Okhotskian’s plight, I would greatly trust your administration and do anything I could to help ensure that you had a successful term as president — if you win the election. This country needs unity, and so I hope that regardless of which one of us wins, the Okhotskian people will support this free and fair new government without any trace of resentment or malice. I wish us all the best of luck in the days ahead.”
