Mustafa ibn Sina Abu Jamal’s Funeral [IC/READ OP]

PostPosted: Sun Nov 29, 2020 11:55 am

Mustafa is dead. Insaanistan and the people who knew him have now come to accept that. Though they don’t have his body, as traveling to Bulo Burti is still too dangerous, they decide to hold the funeral anyway. Soraya (his best friend) and Bashir (his cousin and Soraya’s fiancée) have already arrived, and his cousins Mahmud and Halima are too. Ismail and Nura are on their way, and his uncle Shamsuddin is coming from London. The guests from numerous nations have just departed or have yet to depart for Mogadishu (Muqdishu), where the funeral will be held. Afterwards, his will will be read out loud.

Halima mumbled sadly in a mix of Hui Chinese and Hausa.

Mahmud held back tears as he moved around the Presidential Palace, trying to find something to occupy himself.

Soraya was singing a sad song in Urdu, and was cooking in the kitchen as the cook was sick with COVID.

Bashir was on the phone with Bashir Sr, trying to get him to come.
“Why won’t you come?” he asked.
“I told you already. The Islamic Republic controls the airways. They won’t allow flights to Insaanistan.”
“Then drive!” Bashir exclaimed.
“Bashir...”
“Please, Baba,” Bashir pleaded. “This is Uncle Ali’s son we’re talking about!”
“I will think about it, son.”
“To. Na ji. Na gode.” Okay. I hear you. Thanks.
“Ba godiya.” You’re welcome.
“Salaamalaikum.”
“Wa alaykum salaam.”
His dad hung up. He hoped his dad and step-mom would make the trip over. Mustafa would have wanted his very scattered, spread out and divided family to come together just this once.

Scipio was on his way via private airplane. He had served in the Isaani civil war and had been serving under the command of the Colonel who was close to Mustafa. He had actually met him multiple times when planning for upcoming battles. He had been a couple of miles from Bulo Burti when the explosion destroyed it. He had admired Mustafa and did not believe it when he saw the explosion. It was only days later that he realized that Mustafa had not survived.
When he heard of the funeral, he had to go to pay respects. He was also to give a speech, though he was not one of those military commanders that gave eloquent speeches before a major battle or deployment. He still had time before landing in Isaanistan, so he had enough time to write his speech in eloquent words to describe how he felt.
"I cannot..no, how about there is insufficient words to describe my affliction and torment of the passing of a great leader. Yes, that's good."

Before leaving Romextly, Nura had changed into all black. Mourning colors. She boarded the plane with her luggage, ready for take off. She texted Khadijah, Amirah of Sharifistan,
“Lucky u. U get to be in the same building as Khalid.
Got to the plane safely, alhamdulilah. C u when I get back.”
Then, she ordered some food (as she was in first class), and began rewatching K3G, the first Bollywood movie she had seen with Mustafa. She prayed to Allah to bless his soul and give him the highest level of Jannah (Heaven), and watched as Rohan won the cricket match for his team in the movie. Her flight would take her first to Riyadh. Then, an Insaani plane would take her to Mogadishu. She hoped to get there as soon as possible.

On the plane from Hoyerlay to Mogadishu, Kristin Good, the Foreign Minister, hasn’t said a single word. She knows too well the pain that the grieving family is experiencing. Her dear little brother, a Hoyerlayian soldier, was killed by terrorists in a far away land over two years ago. Mrs Good has never been to Insanistaan or even met any of the country’s dignitaries but she was coming here to express empathy, as a person who has suffered loss at the hands of terrorism herself. She comes with a letter of condolence from the Queen of Hoyerlay, who personally knew the mother of the late Mustafa ibn Sina.

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Nura has never been to Saudi Arabia. Riyadh reminded her of many places in Insaanistan, and yet it was so different. Nura barely spoke any Arabic and and knew it would be difficult to find an Urdu or Pashto speaker. She’d have to rely on English, which admittedly was her first language. She went into the capital city, unsure of what to expect.

She went to a store and looked at the sign out front.
It read:
“ماي ناما”
That confused her. It wasn’t Arabic or Urdu or Pashto as far as she could tell. Her brain worked hard to think. Then it hit her.
ماي ناما
Mai Nama
It was Hausa. Hausa for “meat seller”. She then remembered Uncle Mustafa had told her that due to Hajj, there were many Hausa people and people of Hausa descent in Saudi Arabia, especially in the Hijaz region. She went inside, hopeful the owner was originally Nigerian and thus likely would be an English speaker.

The Sultan and Sultana along with their colleague Morrison Alton landed in Somalia. They were on their way to the funeral. After dropping Farrah and Gamal off in Nuris where they were staying with their sister. This wasn’t the first time he experienced death. A sultan’s rise to power is caused by the passing of a loved one. In 1984 the young Farhan became Sultan a year later he married Nevine and she gave birth Fawzia in 1986. He also dealt with the suicide of his beloved sister who was also named Fawzia whom he named his daughter afterward. Her fiancé’s family treated her very badly. She couldn’t bear it any more and one foggy night she got to edge of the cliff and jumped to her death. Her body was found at dawn by some kids. It was so long ago. The plane got to a halt. “Farhan?” The Sultan was brought out of his flashback and saw Morrison getting up to leave. “ Oh yes we must get to the palace.” The Sultan said getting his bags and heading out of the plane. He got out and got into the limo which would take him to the current Insaani palace.

(The funeral is in Somalia, not Saudi Arabia. Nura is just stopping there for a bit.)

Soraya was confused, lost and helpless. So helpless she actually asked Bashir for help.
“Bash, I need help.”
“And...” he said questioningly, “you’re asking me?”
“Believe it or not: yes. Here’s the deal: Jammu and Kashmir has said it will accept all Insaani refugees.”
“Why is that a problem?”
“They also expressed support for the Communist Republic,” she continued.
“Oh.”
“I don’t know what to do. If I ask them to join us because of our political views, people will take it as us saying we’re Socialists, not just Democratic-Socialists.”
“Then condemn them.”
“But if I condemn them,” Soraya said, “I risk damaging our relationship with them so much they’ll refuse to work with us. And one of Mustafa’s dreams was that all of the Muslim nations joined a comprehensive alliance and worked together on issues. Also, they might turn away the refugees.”
“So whatcha gonna do?” Bashir asked.
“I don’t know,” Soraya admitted.
“Well, you’ll have plenty of time to think about it throughout Mustafa’s funeral and Shauzia’s wedding.”
“That’s it!”
“Huh?”
“I’ll invite the Kashmiris over for the funeral and wedding. Establish ties and rapport so they’ll side with us!” She ran up to Bashir and kissed him on the lips. “Bash, you’re a genius!”
“Uuuuuhhhh... whaaa?”
“Gotta go,” Soraya said picking up a pen. “Gotta deft the invitations!”
“But what about the...” Bashir called out to her as she went upstairs. “...the biryani...” he finished, looking at the rice Soraya had left cooing on the stove. “Crap. How do you cook this?!”

Deputy Prime Minister John Leswig and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Helen Jovell landed in Mogadishu. It was all so sudden for them, Leswig knew what it was like leading a government through civil war. As Deputy Prime Minister under Jerry Manion, he lead a government in crisis as Prime Minister Manion was in his hideaway, as Foreign troops arrived in Hopal. Signing the treaty that gave away sovereignty, was probably the most painful thing he would ever do. Mustafa he found was very similar to him, he worked tirelessly for the people, and to better their lives. He lead a country in turmoil, he remembered when it all began, at the wedding, it was foolish to send Helen Reid on her first solo trip there, and then he was dead. He wiped the tears as the presidential palace came into view, there was work to be done.

(That actually came from my parents’ country. The Southern tribes, which are Christian and make up a majority of the population, do that.)
Bashir goes up to them. “He..llo... what’s with the coffin, guys?”

The Sultan his wife and Dr. Alton arrived at the palace. The men dressed all in black. The Sultana wore a pill box fur hat with a widower’s veil also all in black. “ Soraya.” The Sultana said as she went to hug the younger woman.
