The Disorder wrote:For the moment, our demand for slaves is well-sated - we have a sufficient surplus of them. But when that changes, the Order of Disorder would be more than willing to do business with Tupeia.

Our reason for contacting you is a more scientific & economic one: We believe we have methods to reduce the cost of the slaves that you manufacture. As a potential buyer of your slaves, we have a vested interest in utility-maximization & acquiring human resources at a low cost. As a seller of slaves, it is easy to imagine that you might have a vested interest in undercutting your competition.

Our scientists have invented a series of processes and technologies which largely remove the need for surgical brain implantation (and its associated hazards) in up to 98% of slaves.

It is a commonly encountered 'problem' that some societies with enormous economic throughput can simply buy slaves en-masse, free them, re-educate them, and use these freed slaves to further bolster their population. While your solution to prevent this seems statistically effective, we have developed a number of similarly effective (and perhaps cheaper) counter-rescue strategies, designed also to cause intense disruption among prospective slave rescuers.

If this sort of technological collaboration interests you, we can begin sharing research data.

For the good of all chaos.

Somewhere in orbit around the Moon

In the interplanetary gap between Earth and the Moon, a spaceship passed by the Moon. The 400-meter-long ship was carried by 115 Tupeia Theocracy scientists associated with the development of mind probes. The ship also carried 5,000 slaves of whom 4,000 were probed and worked on the maintenance of the ship while 1,000 slaves were without probes and served as guinea pigs for future experiments and technological exchange with The Disorder. When the ship came out of the moon's orbit, the ship entered the speed of light and headed towards the location of the disturbance. An encrypted message is sent to The Disorder announcing their arrival.

A single Korack-class carrier waits at the rendezvous point out in the interstellar void for the Tupeian starship. Unlike most other Korack carriers, this one has substantially smaller hexagonal fighterbay doors. Just after the Tupeians arrive, the seamless fighterbay doors in the Korack glow brilliant green for a moment, then flicker out of existence - they're part metal and part force-field.

The Disorder ship sends a brief data burst - it contains a diagram of the inside of the ship's fighterbay, a second diagram of a centipede-like organism, a space-traffic control readout that indicates all-clear, and a bit of text: "Welcome, Tupeian Theocracy. You are granted permission to board."

Another diagram indicates that the force-field hangar doors are capable of generating shapes other than a flat metal plate. If the Tupeians wanted to dock the two capital ships together, it seems that the force fields from the Korack's fighterbay door could act as a universal docking mechanism.

Green flames strobe from the carrier's maneuvering thrusters for a few moments as it rotates about, pointing its open fighterbay at the Tupeian ship. Once that maneuver is complete, the Disorder carrier remains stationary.

A message echoed aboard the Tupeia. "Prepare the ship for disembarkation."

A few moments later, four people came out of the Tupeis ship through the force field on the ship The Disorder. "Greetings I am Reginald Clarke, Chief Scientist of Theocracy and these three with me are my collaborators Muriel Bell, Summer Morris and Aad Van Acker."

The Tupeians would be greeted by a fearsome-looking monster - albeit a polite and friendly one. The uttery alien, ten-meter-long centipede creature maintains a relaxed 'standing' pose as the Tupeians board, forming words with its mouthparts: "Welcome, you honor us with your presence," the centipede monster gives a polite nod. "I am Zlep'krai, bioengineer for the Order of Disorder."

The ship's cavernous interior is almost as alien as their host - the largely empty fighterbay is illuminated by glowing green plasma-lights set into the floors, walls, and ceilings, sheathed in some kind of transparent crystal material. Gigantic masses of jagged, alien machinery are set into the ceiling and floor at odd angles as well, blended and integrated into an almost seamless whole-ship supermachine, visible through some of the transparent crystal walls. The builders of the ship etched decorative text, runes, and a web of razor-thin lines into practically every metal and crystal surface. It's difficult to ascertain some of the functions of the larger machinery in the room - but some of the machines might actually be dormant spaceships, docked with the carrier.

"These devices will grant you unrestricted access throughout the ship," Zlep'krai offers. With a chitinous alien pincer, he opens a small case and pulls out four approximately pen-sized devices, composed almost entirely of glowing green crystal. "Doors will recognize you as a friendly and automatically open whenever you approach them."

"I'm uncertain to what extent Tupeians prefer to memorialize international collaborations such as this. We've prepared laboratories and technology demonstrations if you prefer to get straight to the point. We've prepared a ceremony in your honor as well, if you prefer to start with that."

Reginald waited for the strange being to finish his speech before starting his own. When the strange creature finished Reginald began his speech “Me and my team would rather get to know your culture we go to a ceremony in our honor first.” Reginald smiled kindly as he gave the speech.

Summer watched the strange creature throughout this situation. After some thought, she approached the creature and asked, "Dear sir, what kind of alien are you, you remind us very much of human centipedes in our country."

As the situation unfolded Muriel Bell and Aad Van Acker kindly smiled.

"Of course, this way," Zlep'krai gave a polite nod in response to the man's smile - the centipede monster didn't have the mouthparts for anything analogous to a human smile.

"I am a synthetic organism, manufactured in a Disorder laboratory," Zlep'krai replied to Summer as he led the way. Doors with the texture of black metal disintegrated away with a flash of green energy and an electric hum - the same type of technology the ship used for its fighterbay doors. "My form was engineered through computer-simulated evolution, and I do indeed share some resemblence with natural centipedes and similar arthropods."

Despite the ship's enormous triangular and hexagonal hallways, and the myriad of smaller rooms set into them at odd and confusing angles, the carrier has very few inhabitants. The ship is the size of a few city blocks, yet it contains almost no people - just Zlep'krai so far. Instead of elevators or stairs, the ship's hallways simply bend up and down in unnatural ways. A few intersections lack gravity entirely, and merely have convenient handles and padded metal bars crisscrossing the interior. "Mind the nonstandard gravity," Zlep'krai cautions as he lowers himself to a spongy, cushioned floor. The boundary between gravity and zero-gravity is marked with a few glowing arrows.

Among the various oddities inside the starship, they pass a room that contains suits of powered armor. They pass a half-dozen recessed alcoves in the hallways, which contain high-tech metal and crystal rifles - probably some kind of energy weapons. They pass a transparent crystal wall with a visible airlock in it, with hazard stripes and alien warning text on the other side.

Mariel looks at the warning signs for a moment and asks "what do they mean? ".

"They indicate you should not enter that room, unless you are wearing the appropriate protective equipment," Zlep'krai answered. "The fuel that we use in most of our technology is very hazardous, so we encapsulate it in hardened fuel cells that are failure-resistant. In laboratories like that one, we open and refill those fuel cells."

Fortunately, Zlep'krai leads them past that particular hazard-striped glass door. The fuel cell laboratory isn't their destination.

"We have hazard suits, if you want to see the contents of that particular laboratory while you are aboard."

The next door that dissolves open in a flash of green light reveals a huge vertical chasm between two asymmetric masses of alien machinery, with a floor made of transparent glass and intricate metal trusses. A triangular table sits in the room's center, surrounded by four floating chairs made of gleaming black metal, stone, and crystal. Two more floating objects are situated around the table just like the chairs - but one is a ramp, and the other is a concave hemisphere. The 'chandilier' above the table looks more like an alien weapon or a giant robotic claw than a light source - but the claws emit a soft, greenish-white light.

Reginald and his team of scientists sat down on their floating chairs.

Van Acker groped with his hands a black chair made of gleaming ferrous metal, stone and crystal "If you could include all this technology in our technology exchange, Tupeia would surely be very military to trade with you for certain of your technologies."

Summer raised her hand "We wonder what energy sources this spaceship is using and how it violates certain laws of physics, I'm very interested."

"If our reactor, or drive, or weapon technologies fall into the wrong hands, they could usher in a dark age of corruption that might last for eons," Zlep'krai cautioned. "The probability of misuse is low, but a low probability of such an apocalyptically awful outcome is not worth the risk. These sensitive technologies belong in the fewest number of hands possible. Enslavement technologies, fortunately, are not subject to this same risk."

The door dissolved open again, this time revealing a three-meter-tall avian monster, a bizarre blend of organic and robotic. Instead of feathers, the monster is covered in razor-thin geometric metal blades. Nine glowing red eyes peer out from its multipart head.

"Welcome aboard!" The seemingly robotic metal raven announced as it takes a 'seat' in the floating hemisphere, extending a dextrous wing-claw to a control panel on the table. "For the good of all chaos, I hope your journey here was a pleasant one. I am Jarzoth, pilot of this vessel & chief diplomatic agent on behalf of the Disorder."

"Jarzoth has hunted and prepared a feast that will hopefully prove sufficient," Zlep'krai informed. "The galaxy contains an immeasurably bountiful harvest."

At the touch of a holographic button, a dozen platters of food flash into existence atop the table, likely teleported in. Most platters contain cuts of grilled and sliced meat - one might be chicken, another looks to be some sort of salmon or other water-borne fish. They also have a bright orange and richly seasoned roast, breaded & fried cubes of some wholly alien creature's flesh, and a sizable pile of meaty ribs, each a half-meter long. For vegetables, they have some kind of crunchy & seared plant leaves, alien kernels of corn that are the size of potatoes, and a purple-tinted lemon-shaped fruit. Pitchers of multicolored liquid coalesce into existence too - various drinks.

The utensils are atypical too. Instead of forks, they have tiny crystal spears on intricately engraved handles, somewhat similar in appearance to chopsticks. For knives, they have serrated metal daggers that look more at home in a torture chamber than a dining room.

Reginald smiled and started to give a speech "This trip was very pleasant, have we seen so many oddities on this ship more than in our whole life. Thank you for the warm welcome and this party. Thank you again." Reginald takes a drink and sets off to drink "In honor of the cooperation of our two countries"

Muriel and Van Acker take the daggers and start eating the meat greedily.

As everyone eats and gets drunk Summer thinks of something, for a moment she begins to scratch her head as if thinking of something. Moments later, Summer joins the others in eating and drinking, she takes a nice piece of barbecue and starts eating it.

Jarzoth prepares himself a 'salad' of sorts, slicing various meats into bite-sized cubes & razor-thin strips, mixing them together in a bowl & drizzling them with some sort of reddish-brown sauce. Apparently the robotic-looking bird monster is indeed organic to some extent. Between the serrated surfaces of Jarzoth's beak, he does appear to have a tongue and a secondary set of moutparts.

"Quite an astute selection," Zlep'krai compliments Summer on her choice. "The flesh and marrow is positively delectable," the centipede comments, also going for the barbecued ribs. Fangs, mandibles, and tongue-like tendrils surround the rib. Just as it seems that he might be beginning to swallow it whole, a much larger set of internal teeth emit a muted 'crunch'. Little by little, he devours the rib, bone and all.

"You are quite welcome, Reginald Clarke. The feast is really no trouble at all. It is the least we could do to commemorate this occasion," Jarzoth replies, raising a knife with a piece of meat skewered on it. "To science. To cooperation. To mutual prosperity. And, to chaos."

Apparently in the Disorder, they do toasts with meat on knives, instead of beverages.

"Hail chaos," Zlep'krai replies, skewering and raising a second rib so that he can partake in the meat-toast.

One thing that they might notice about all the meat served - it's especially high in quality. Everything is tender, juicy, and well-seasoned. These alien monsters understand human culinary tastes as well as mere biology.

"Long live Chaos and the The Great Apostate Daimos. My friends notice that this meat is simply wonderful, juicy, high quality, simply beautiful. The one who prepared this dish is certainly the best chef in the universe. Thank the chef on my behalf. "

"You flatter me," Jarzoth replied, letting out a delighted half-chuckle & half-squawk. "Though admittedly, I am not the greatest chef in the universe. There are others within the Disorder who substantially surpass me as a hunter, butcher, and chef."

"Just none of them happen to be aboard at the moment. Only a few of us have any susbstantial interest in diplomacy. The Disorder is primarily a technological and military power," Zlep'krai added, already halfway finished gnawing one of the sizeable barbecued ribs. "And to Apostate Daimos as well - longevity as well as prosperity!"

"Autonomy and self-sufficiency are a couple of the Disorder's core values. Most Disorder agents are capable hunters and chefs. Aside from special occasions such as randomly-generated festivals & hosting foreign emissaries, we largely hunt and prepare our own meals," the monstrous bird informed.

"I'm sure that you must have questions about our culture and our society. And as we are a nation of scientists, the act of inquiring and learning is never considered rude," Zlep'krai invited. "Our ways are likely to seem alien to one another, but the differences that define us do not need to separate us."

"My questions are 1: what is your culture based on, 2: what are your goals, 3: what are your moral standards. These are my questions said Reginald. Do you have any questions about our country."

Van Acker raised his hand to a nervously visible face “Our collaboration takes place despite the fact that Tupeia deals with slavery, cannibalism, human sacrifice and other practices that are unforgivable by normal civilizations, so my question is which crime is nasty to you, which is your standard "?

"The Order of Disorder was founded to accomplish a mission - though hearing of it is sometimes unnerving to newcomers," Jarzoth cautioned before he went on. "We aim to bring annihilation to the systems of order. The cosmos is infected with authority, hierarchy, and greed - and we intend to cure it. We intend to excise these tumorous growths, and cast them into the flames of anti-creation."

"Without the action of chaos-agents in recent galactic history, a great number of societies have risen to power. Intelligent life can evade nature's mass extinction events - so it is necessary for death to become intelligent as well," Zlep'krai added. "Balance must be restored. Without destruction, there would be no need for creation, and all matter in the universe would be arranged and ordered in the blink of a cosmic eye. For the good of the future, all possible existence, and all infinity, we cannot afford to allow this evil a foothold in our cosmos."

"Sometimes we are forced to compromise our chaotic ideals. We are willing to accept a tiny amount of order in exchange for a massive amount of chaos," Jarzoth went on. "Which is where Tupeia is a useful vector in our chaotic crusade. Sudden infusions of cheap labor into hostile economies inflict economic turmoil. Fortunes shift, values change, cities have to be redesigned. Slavery is a form of tyranny and order, but in its optimum state, slavery yields more chaos than it costs in order."

"Our morals prioritize wild freedom and innovation - but only for those fearless souls that can thrive in anarchy," Zlep'krai went on to answer Reginald's question about morals. "To this end, we have created a two-caste system. Our slaves are given purpose and peace, conditioned to be subservient, and we put these slave-resources to work for the good of all chaos. Order would slay true freedom and insight with illusory laws and corrupt systems, chaining the strong for the good of the weak. But chaos chains the weak for the good of the strong. It is better for a few elite visionaries to soar to hyperspace and beyond, instead of propelling everyone toward equal mediocrity."

"Our culture is a strange one, to outsiders," Jarzoth answered next. "Entry into the Disorder is a very selective process, to ensure that only the finest chaos-loving innovators and berserkers may become part of our anarchic utopia. Our population is very tiny and socially independent - aboard this entire ship, there are only five Disorder citizens, myself and Zlep'krai included. Automation plays an important role in our society and our technology. Even our doors are solid-state force fields, because they are less prone to breakdown and require less maintenance."

"We consider it a grave existential sin if one conspires with the forces of order to impede chaos. But aside from that, it is not our place to control what might or might not be," Zlep'krai aimed to answer Van Acker's question. "Many so-called 'atrocities', such as cannibalism, mutilation, murder, and extinction can be found everywhere in the chaos of nature. Slavery is akin to paracesis, another process found in nature. And depending on the context, one could call natural selection a type of sacrifice. If these are evil at all, then they are far lesser evils than those we seek to purge."

Reginald "A beautiful goal, our goals are simply to continue the enslavement of entire species, planets, countries, and to spread misery and chaos through reality. Our second goal is to ensure the existence of a utopia that is the Theocracy of Tupeia." Reginald pours a glass of fruit juice in a glass and starts drinking

Summer- "Our motives are simple" "We are not evil, The reason is simple, I will answer your question. That's it. The authorities are looking for Tupeia completely for themselves. We are not interested in the good of others; we are only interested in strength, pure strength. What pure power means, you will now understand. We differ from the oligarchy of the past in that we know what we are doing. Everyone else, even those who looked like us, were cowards and hypocrites. The Nazis and Communists are very close to us in their methods, but they never had the courage to recognize their own motives. They pretended that they might even believe that they were taking power reluctantly and for a while, and that just around the corner was a paradise where people would be free and equal. We are not like that. We know that no one ever takes power with the intention of giving up. Power is not a means; that's the end. No dictatorship is established to protect the revolution; one revolutionizes the establishment of a dictatorship. The subject of persecution is exile. The subject of torture is torture. The object of power is power.

We are torturing billions not because of some politically motivated means or necessary evil. We do this because we want to exercise our power. We do it because we can.
We are willing to lobotomize countless children to die for our enjoyment. Why do you ask that? Because it is economically more profitable to protect our sweet, sweet moolach, and we need something to cover up our deep insecurity and cruelty. We are not evil, we just do what we want even if it is to the detriment of others. "
" These are our motives for each of our actions, what do you think? "

Muriel Bell "We asked questions to you and each side revealed their motives for their actions. Do you have questions about anything that has to do with our nation?"

"We have long maintained that self-interest is good and noble," Zlep'krai replied to Summer. "There is no need for those with immense power to feign equality or share their power with their lessers. Tupeians are not wrong to pursue such an agenda. And those multitude of lessers, those that would willingly accept subjugation in return for safety? They are animals, tools, even playthings."

"Though power for power's own sake does flirt with corruption," Jarzoth cautioned. "We wield power as a means to an end, to deny order a foothold in the cosmos. We torture so that we may create fuel for our technological wonders, and bring chaos to the cosmos. We enslave others for our own good, and the entire universe will be better for it. The order-worshipping vermin of the galaxy simply have no right to stand in the way of this future."

Zlep'krai visibly perked up at Muriel's words. "I do indeed have a question. A fleeting curiosity, if you will. Of course, regardless of your answer, it would change nothing between our two nations."

"Tupeia is off to a remarkable start, sowing chaos and discord across the universe - but would Tupeian leadership be interested in further chaotic policy optimization? With our insight, Tupeia might accomplish the work of a billion years in just a thousand," Zlep'krai offered.

"I am also curious about your theocracy, tell me more of your people's system of beliefs," Jarzoth inquired, leaning in, apparently quite interested. "Our own culture has an array of traditions, rituals, and proceedings, but it is not rooted in anything as formal as an established religion."

Muriel takes a document out of his jacket and gives it to Jarzoth . The document is called Saranism.

"This is our religion, our customs, our culture."

PostPosted: Tue Dec 22, 2020 1:51 am
by The Disorder
Jarzoth's fascination with other cultures and religions is a largely intellectual one. He handles the document with an unusual degree of caution, possibly even reverence. Partially because it might be offensive to do otherwise. Partially also because paper documents are absurdly rare in a society with interstellar telepathy, reserved largely for ceremonial occasions. This does certainly count as a ceremonial occasion.

The snippet about greed is somewhat worrisome - although Jarzoth isn't interested in breaking up their diplomatic relations just over Saranism's acceptance of greed. Whether or not their greed is a vector of corruption is ultimately up to the fleet's pilots to decide.

Environmentalism? Balanced with industrial expansion nicely. Sapient life rules lesser life, but it's important to not exterminate the biospheres of planets that one wants to live upon.

Souls? It's a fairly accurate assessment. Disorder magicians and scientists have reached similar conclusions - but the Tupeians probably don't need reassurance that they're correct in their beliefs. It's good to save that for later, in case Jarzoth needs to give foreign relations with Tupeia a push in the friendly direction.

Freedom is good, private property is fine, as for weapons...

"Ooooh, this is fascinating," Jarzoth looked up at Muriel briefly. "Saranism celebrates and exonerates armament! Our policy toward armament is similar, albeit secular and utilitarian in nature. I'm sure you saw the arms caches on the way here."

"The ship has a range, for training and recreational purposes - if any of you would prefer to sample our weapons at some point during your visit," Zlep'krai invited.

Jarzoth even thought of another way to possibly improve Tupeian relations. Releasing a small quantity of the Disorder's deprecated, last-generation weapons to the Tupeians might be a worthwhile gesture. Just enough for the self-defense of diplomatic envoys and such.

Regional laughed briefly to himself, "Do you have any more questions about our country if not then we should get to work. We will take your offer to test your weapons after the end of our exchange."

At the touch of a holographic button, the food, plates, drinks, and utensils on the table dematerialize in a pulse of green light - likely teleported away, just as the food was originally delivered.

"Very well, Zlep'krai will show you to the laboratories," Jarzoth replied. "If you require further sustenance while aboard, this control panel will re-summon it for you. Food stored in this manner will neither spoil, nor experience the passage of time."

"One of our most important slavery-related inventions is a very efficient method of inflicting pain," Zlep'krai informed as he led the way. "The neural pathways to shape behavior and compel obedience have already been laid by nature. The need for advanced neurological mind control is surprisingly low."

The next door that dissolves open reveals a roughly spherical & transparent reactor, surrounded by alien machinery. A purplish-orange ball of plasma floats in the reactor's center, flaring and boiling like a miniature sunl Enough holographic screens and readouts encircle the reactor, the lab could easily pass as the ship's bridge. Or the Disorder military's war room. Prison cells made of half-meter-thick glass line the perimeter walls - filled with human slaves.

Zlep'krai gestures to a tray of what look like glass microchips sitting on a console, each one barely the size of a fingernail. "These will be yours - and three hundred million just like them," the centipede-monster offered. "These converters transform electrical energy into pure neurological agony, optimized for use upon humans. We integrate these into collars, weapons, prods, restraints, cells, really anything the imagination can conceive."

The group approaches the table and takes the chips in their hands and looks at them with curiosity on their faces.

"Nice, all the chips can be brought into our ship. Just throw them towards the green light that separates our ships. The teleportation circuit will automatically transfer all the chips to our ship's warehouse."

"As our gratitude, receive 1000 slaves without probes as a gift. All slaves are engineered to have an energetically strong soul. Their souls are worth a lot because a normal human soul has an energy of 100 Suns while the soul power of these slaves is 2000 Suns."

"And in the end since this was very fast we can also test your weapon" Reginald concluded the sentence

"Actually, that is just one of the technologies we intend to share," Zlep'krai informed as he scuttled toward one of the cells, gesturing to a shivering and bleeding human slave, trapped behind a meter-thick plate of glass.

"Some troublesome anti-slavery nations would buy slaves, only to release them & expand their population. We find this activity to be an abhorrent travesty, so we have invented this countermeasure," the centipede monster explained. "It is a virus, one that infects the skin and attacks the nervous system. With ongoing treatment, the virus is made dormant. But if a slave does not recieve that treatment on a regular basis, the virus becomes active and transmissible, secreted through the skin as an airborne contagion. As the infection progresses, it causes insomnia, disorientation, paranoia, hallucinations, seizures, dementia, and eventually death from neurological deterioration."

"There are many variations of this virus, and it can be induced to mutate in laboroatory conditions. The virus can be 'updated' in this manner as often as you desire, so that if a hostile power does recreate the treatment, that hostile treatment can be quickly rendered ineffective. We typically administer the treatments in our slaves' drinking water. Permanent vaccines do exist to protect your own people, but they are only effective in individuals who have never been exposed to the virus."

"Your science teams are welcome to use this ship's laboratories to test the iteration process, develop vaccines, and generate temporary treatments. Here, if there is an accident and your people inadvertently become infected, our quarantine systems can contain the virus, and our regeneration magic can eradicate every trace of it. The virus is not quite a military-grade bioweapon, since it neither incapacitates quickly nor mutates autonomously."

"Perfect. A very cruel method to prevent the escape or release of slaves. We like it. As for your offer to test virus vaccine production, we accept your offer. We also ask you to accept these slaves as an official gift".Reginald finished the sentence with a pronounced smile on his face.

Van Acker approached Zlep'krai with the video file "Me and my group were discuss with each other and we decided to show you the Theocracy Tupeia's worst bio-weapon, spiral disease" On the file he played a video of test of spiral disease and handed it to Zlep'krai to watch.

In contact with the blood, the premen began to grow and began to transform the body according to its genetic blueprint. Organs, blood, even bones were broken into thousands of tongues of pain and fragments, the entire prisoner's body was broken and terraformed by spiral disease. After five minutes of pain, the prisoner got up completely changed, the spiral disease mutated his body into a terrible machine of flesh and blood made to spread the spiral disease further.
