The United States of Ibica wrote:Back in Maurau, far removed from the fighting against the Guyit, more progress was made in the construction in town. A modernized bulk break and roll on/roll off terminal at the port, road improvement projects, and a large section of base housing and other facilities. Planes to support the effort against the Guyit were almost always either taking off or landing. And the idea of Maurau becoming part of Ibica had been floated. Especially if the threat of the Guyit ever reached the city, the additional resources that would be guarenteed to the area could mean it would be safe from the attacks. But this would of course have to be with the consent of Maurau's population.

Speaking of Maurau's population, it had swelled. Before the arrival of the Ibicans, the town had a population was around 7,500; but now swelled to nearly 20,000 with Ibican troops. The economy there continued to boom, in contrast to the cities in striking distance of the Guyit. Ibican businesses had also set up shop in the city, with a daily commercial flight of Ibian Airlines planned to begin between Maurau and Willmington, the Ibican capital.

The agreement between with the Akan had been communicated. Recon flights had begun over Yuikl territory, with plans being drawn up on how to seize lands that had been claimed by Ibica.

A town has withdrawn it's submission to Ibica in exchange for no more attacks

We extend a message to the leaders of the town saying we respect their decision and will pull forces out of the town. We tell them they are always welcome back, and they can call for help at any time, because we do not trust the Guyit to honor the agreement. Airstrike against the Guyit continue, but personal engagements die down, with the focus firmly shifting to defending allies.

Allanea wrote:Operation Jericho

The first battles of the Candabaumie campaign were a success. Most of the air force of the slaver kings was wrecked on its runways, tens of thousands of militiamen lay dead. Yet a threat remained still. The enemy force still outnumbered the Allaneans hundreds to one, and of course their tanks and armored vehicles outnumbered the Expeditionary Force perhaps twenty to one on the ground.

Therefore, the Allaneans spent the next few days planning, with the meticulousness for which they were known, Operation Jericho.

It launched at midnight. Stealth aircraft took off from the aircraft carriers in groups of four, flying out over the sea, in scythe-like routes around Candabaumie's shores. They would turn towards land again only when they were approaching their target. From the arsenal ships, missiles began to launch, coming low across the land – dozens of missiles from each ship, for dozens of targets.

All of the weapons were meant to strike their targets before dawn, timed to arrive at more or less the same time around the vast island.

Missiles carrying relatively simple, high-explosive warheads hundreds of kilograms in weight would dive in towards the barracks housing tank crews and command headquarters, ammunition and fuel storages. Cluster warheads were aimed at the vehicle hangars and parking spaces, showering the enemy vehicles in literally hundreds of explosions, hoping to set thousands of fires.

From the sea, dozens of glide bombs came in towards enemy positions, silent and deadly. Now with the enemy air force crippled, the Allanean planes were free to carry air-to-ground weapons on every hardpoint, on every plane. They were becoming, slowly, what they were meant to be – engines of pure death and fear, striking from the dark unseen and unstopped.

OOC:

So… yeah, the slaver forces are being attacked from the air with about 600 JSOW-A bombs, and from the sea by about 200 Hellion missiles, 50 of them just carrying unitary warheads and the others carrying submunitions broadly similar to the ones on the JSOW. It's obviously up to the OP to decide how many of them impact and what damage they do.

The attacks kill hundreds, if not thousands of militia. But many endure to keep fighting in small actions, ambushing small forces

Somewhere off the coast of Northwestern Hoding at Midnight:

A large flotilla of 200 Piikalan submarines surfaces off the coast their flat conning towerless decks making them nearly invisible on the horizon. The operations leader an old admiral from the Piikalan colony of Malaysia by the name of Chew Dak Hui steps onto the deck of one of the submarine and looks up at the dark moonless sky filled with clouds and mumbles to himself in Teochew, "What a wonderful night for an operation like this." As a small inflatable powered by an electric motor silently motors towards the beach. Her crew of Piikalan Kempeitai officers jumps off her bow and walk onto the beach followed by several dozen Piikalan hovercrafts that motor onto the beach after being unloaded from the normaly aircraft carrying subs.

OOC: Because Romextly has not responded to my previous telegrams asking for clarifications, I'm going to go on with the limited information from his previous post.

IC:

The Colonel paced along the long line of body bags – black, elongated shapes, each once used to be a soldier. Now they were packaged away with seeming neatness, each man or woman a sealed package holding all of the things that in life made them a soldier – their mossy-green uniform, alongside their personal weapons and tag. Only when the bodies were shipped home would they later be separated from these belongings, their clothing and gear given to their family.

"How did that happen?" – the Colonel asked.

"They were ambushed. The patrol lost half its people before we could extract them."

"Unfortunate." – he said. "We need to talk to Corps Command. We need a way to keep the slavers away from our lines."

* * *

The solution was eventually found, of course. Drones – solar drones, circling in the skies beyond the reach of enemy rifle fire, day after day, scanned the burned-out forests for movement, and when suspect movement was detected, Allanean artillery would open fire, dozens of miles away, dropping shells on enemy groups. Yet obviously, this was only a temporary, stop-gap event. It would eventually – inevitably – be that the Candabaumians would pay for their many crimes.

* * *

The bombers were finally ready for the strike. They had prepared at the airbase at Romextly, and now the first wave of the aircraft was prepared. Four of the bombers carried their full load of precision bombs, and four carried… it could be said that they carried cluster munitions.

When the first four bombers flied overhead, they dropped out the precision bombs on power distribution facilities, oil-fired power plants and their coal-fired cousins. Even where power was not produced by coal or oil, shutting down the power distribution would make it impossible to deliver it to the cities. Dozens of bombs were dropped out on dozens of targets.

And then the other bombers dropped their weapons. When the bombs fell to the ground, they rotated, seeding out their weapons – thousands, tens of thousands, millions of leaflets, printed out on thin, water-proofed paper, which fluttered to the ground like leaves.

They said simply:

Are you a victim of the slavers? Are you now in chains? Do you remember still the whip on your back? The Allaneans offer you everything a man or woman can desire. We offer you liberty. We offer you opportunity. We offer you vengeance. All you need to do is get away from your so-called masters. Make it to our lines, and liberty will be guaranteed you. Kill a slaver – and you will be richly rewarded. And if you do more, if you take up arms against the masters – we promise you every manner of assistance.

Think of the many rich gifts that liberty has to offer. Think of freedom, opportunity, wealth, and safety for your loved once. Think of all the awful things the slavers have done, and the things they will do. We offer you all of the boons of liberty for yourself, and fire and death for the slaver.

Come. Join us. Be one of us. And if you so wish, if you are but strong and brave – help us bring the slaver the terrible payback he deserves for everything they have done to you and your loved ones, for every drop of your sweat, your blood, and your tears.

Airstrikes against the Guyit continued across inland North Caustoles, slowly dwindling down their numbers and ability to fight, but this was not the story for the forest where they had their stronghold. Civilians were still prohibited from entering it, and any soldiers going more 5 miles considered it suicide.

Back at Joint Base Maurau, Admiral Gibson attended a ceremony for soldiers killed in action returning home, laying Ibican flags over their caskets while they were given 21 gun salutes. We had lost too many men. Too many for nothing to be achieved in Caustoles. He couldn't let their legacy be dying in a war that was all for nothing.

Over the several weeks that Ibican forces had been here, the base had really taken shape, the main headquarters building, a modern 6 story office building, was nearing completion, of its exterior at least, the base exchange and commissary was complete, finally having moved out of its tent market, and large portion of base housing, several flag officers houses and multiple barracks, had also been built. The tents were slowing going away, even as the troop population climbed. Joint Ibican and Maurau patrols pushed deeper into the wilderness around the city, an organized presence seeming to keep away the criminal gangs previously encountered. With the patrols now securing the road between Maurau and Toules.

With the route now secure and traffic and trade flowing again, plans were now being drawn up on how to improve the connection. A four lane divided highway, closer to the coastline, and a parallel railroad track. And at the port across town, a ship had just arrived with supplies to build the rail infrastructure around the city, and the first shipment of rolling stock, a handful of ALW-101's, and a collection of cars.

Also added to the plans for the base in town was now a military hospital, the Rhett T. Johnson Medical Center, due to the sheer amount of injuries and casualties sustained from Guyit encounters.

The Langenian research ship approached the waters near Paisacrata. Their intent was to study Paisacrata's nature and find things of interest. A team of scientists disembarked and began looking at native flora and fauna. They were unaware of the dangers that lurked nearby. They had been warned by the military officers that the natives in the area were hostile, but they decided to disregard that. The military officers had even informed them that they would have no escort, since all local Langenian military forces were tied down watching the local confrontations and conflicts take place and defending the Langenian colonies and their allies if the need arose. Undeterred, the scientists even though they could make friends...

(OOC: Rom, please respond to this. I'm looking to create a conflict between the Paisacratan natives and the Langenians and their native allies and claim more land.)

Meanwhile, in a cluster of uninhabited islands off the coast of western Caustoles, Langenia has begun transporting settlers. The settlers have begun building two towns and a few villages and will form the core of the Langenian colonies in the islands. All the settlers are Wellowian, from the country of Wellow, obviously. They come fleeing the war and destruction caused by Osean air raids against Wellow in the Osean-Joyean War. The Langenian leadership had decided on non-Langenian settlers, to avoid angering the natives, who would think the presence of Langenian citizens settling near them constituted an invasion. Instead, it looked like Langenia was doing a good deed, helping poor, wretched people escape destruction. The local Langenian military forces have made good progress in building military bases. Already, the naval base can accommodate many warships of the nearby Langenian fleet, one air base is almost complete and already has tenant units, another is quickly being built, and two army bases are complete and hosting troops. A third army base is under construction in the islands where the Langenian-Wellowian settlers are located. Langenian soldiers have been acting as military advisors to the armies of Langenia's native allies, forming a cadre of native troops ready for combat and equipped with their own and Langenian-made weapons. The military alert level has been heightened to highest, amid all the military clashes in the islands between natives, Allaneans, Ibicans, Antarticans, Piikalans, and Insaanis.
