The charges (except those against police officers) of child sexual exploitation, drug trafficking, firearms offences etcetera can be dealt with purely by the Qadi (Judge) without the need of a jury. But in cases in which the accused are charged with murdering police officers or where police officers are the accused, juries must be used. This is to stop corrupt officials rigging cases involving their institutions or direct associates.
The jurors were mostly domestic servants with many teachers also represented as well as a handful of doctors. Military personnel and firefighters are not represented on the juries in these cases due to concerns about bias.
