Train Service into Occupied Kongsi MT/IC/TG-for-interest

New train service towards Ji'an

In order to increase connectivity of Nacrad and recently occupied territories in Kongsi, the Nacrad Railway Transport Organisation has deemed it fit to launch a railway service from Riverfort to Ji'an. The train is to be run three times per week per direction. The price for the full journey is as follows:

• N$25 for Class 3 Seats
• N$45 for Class 2 Couchettes
• N$60 for Class 1 Sleepers

The schedule is as follows:

A representative of Nacrad arrives at the Riverfort-Grand Central Railway Station, and waited for the foreign legation. At the same time, a platoon of army soldiers arrived at the station, and quietly but quickly headed over to the train. The soldiers put down their belongings and guns in their train car, and then sent a squad to stand guard at the platform to wait for the foreign diplomats.

09:40, Riverfort-Grand Central Railway Station.

"Alright, welcome to Riverfort Railway Station, I am Representative Kwong. as you can see, it's very busy here. Now, Sergeant Kwok will bring you to the train."

Sergeant Kwok snapped to attention, and then said "I am sergeant Kwok. Please follow me."

The diplomats arrived at the front of Platform 17. The sergeant walked up to an officer and saluted, "Lieutenant, here are the diplomats." The Lieutenant dismissed the Sergeant, and greeted them, "Good morning. I am Lieutenant Chan, I will be leading the platoon that will be guarding you."

Representative Kwong smiled, and turned towards the diplomats, then asked, "Now, seen as it's still 15 minutes from departure, would you like to check out around the train, or just wait in the dedicated carriage?"

Little did they know, however, something would go wrong later today...

A small Piikalan charter aircraft touched down at the Riverfront airport from the self administrative Piikalan state of Celebritydude. Onboard the aircraft a young, ambitious Piikalan diplomat Kobayashi, Hiroshi and his three assistants (aka Piikalan kempeitai agent/intelligence service agents). As they deplaned the aircraft, the flight crew opened the cargo hold on the bottom of the plane. They removed several small aluminium suitcases that had spray-painted on them: “Diplomatic Pouch of the Imperial State of Piikala and her Self administrative state.” Along with a golden coloured crest of the Piikalan sun, a symbol of the Piikalan emperor. The diplomat came down the steps of the plane dressed in the traditional Piikalan dress with a light blue silk Kimono with a dark blue hakama and ceremonial katana at his left side. He also had a small koa wood lei-o-mano in a little holster at his right side for close combat.

In comparison, the three assistants wore kimono made of Kapa and weapons at their side, with the group all wearing the traditional Piikalan shoes that are wooden slippers and Jaki tabis made of shark leather that clicked against the tarmac of the airfield. Upon exiting the group proceeded to pick up the boxes and wheeled them away with a trolley they got from an airfield worker. Then passed through immigration and got a cab to the train station as Mr Kobayashi didn’t want to wait and wanted to get to work immediately.

Nacard train station 05:30

Upon arriving at the train, the assitants could feel a sense of nevouseness. It was as if they could feel the tension in the air so they stood on guard their hands tucked into their kimono holding a gun. The quietly talked amongst themselves in Piikalan as they observed the scenery around them and talked about any potential threats that could come from the crowd around. While the diplomat pulled out several onigiri from a pocket in his hakama and passed it around the group.

09:50, Riverfort Grand Central Railway Station.

"Train B6942 calling at Heyuan, Ganzhou, Xinguo and Ji'an is now boarding at Platform 17. Please present your train tickets to the ticket checker," a distorted voice came from a loudspeaker, interrupting the waiting passengers, who are mostly speaking the Gan Chinese dialect. Many of them are descendants of those who fled from Kongsi after the mass prosecution in formerly communist Kongsi, and some of them are themselves the Kongsinese who fled.

The passengers stood up, then presented their train tickets, as they walked to Platform 17.

Upon arriving at the train, the station assistant bought several sleeper car tickets for the train ride paying with a government-issued credit card from the ministry of foreign affairs. Then quietly talked amongst themselves in Piikalan as they observed the scenery around them and talked about the recent mission to the state of Celebritydude. At the same time, they waited to board the train on its inaugural journey.

Alena Haley Queen Tyranis21 and 12 closest friends came to the station. One of the special forces bought 13 tickets for the first class. They took the tickets and started looking around as they waited for the train.

Riverfront train station 9:50

One of Alena's friends takes all the tickets and hands them over at the counter. The queen and her entourage get on the train and go to their cabin and there they sit and wait for the train to leave.

09:55, Riverfort Grand Central Railway Station.

The diplomats returned to their train carriage, while the soldiers saluted as they entered the intricately decorated carriage. At the same time, members of the press also sat in the press compartment. After everyone got in, the soldiers also packed up and entered the train. Unbeknownst to them, the insurgents along the train line is plotting something...

Meanwhile, 15 km north of Ganzhou...

A group of insurgents met in a villager's house. They are plotting to stop and ambush the train. Their plan was to sabotage the signaling system, and ambush the train as it arrive and stops at their village.

09:00

The Piikalan diplomat Kobayashi Hiroshi and his assistant boarded the train. With them, they towed three large metal boxes they're diplomatic pouches that they carried with them. As the crew entered the carriage, they carefully pulled the boxes into their quarters and set it down with a soft thud onto the plush floor. They then proceeded to lock the door and blinds of the quarters and proceeded to check the room for bugs. After a few minutes, they deemed the place safe and proceeded to open one of the three large aluminium boxes by pulling the latches open with a soft squeaky sound. Revealing several large bottles of sake carefully wrapped in foam and took them out with care and lifted the cushion underneath. Showing three light machine guns and grenade launchers they took out revealing another layer of thirty assorted grenades all carefully wrapped in newspaper. Soon after the Kempeitai agents took out several grenades and weapons then placed their bottles of sake back into the container. Then opened another box taking off boxes of traditional Piikalan desserts revealing three kevlar vests and other combat equipment. At the same time, another agent opened the last box showing a set of communication equipment.

So they sent a message on their communicator to the ministry of foreign affairs that read:

The engineer released the brakes, and gently eased the throttle forwards. The train slowly but smoothly left the train station. The first leg of the journey is in Nacradian territory, where the railway lines are fully electrified. The locomotive for this section is also electric, so the ride was quiet and smooth. Soon enough, they were going at a very high speed, slowing down only for the few sharp curves at the junctions. The engineer pressed a button, and an announcement was played. "Welcome abroad the B6942 Express train. This train will call at Heyuan, Ganzhou, Xinguo and Ji'an. The next station is Heyuan. We hope you a pleasant journey," a robotic voice spoke.

12:15, Heyuan Railway Station.

"Attention passengers, this station is Heyuan Station. If your destination is Heyuan Station, please make sure you have all of your belongings. If not, please remain onboard or on the platform, and return onboard the train before departure."

The train slowly pulled into Heyuan Railway Station, which is quite large, however not nearly as large as Riverfort's railway station. Immediately after stopping, the conductor made another announcement, "This is the final station before entering into Kongsi. By the Military Occupation Area Ordinance, you are to present your identity cards or passports for registration. You will not be searched, but please cooperate with the officers."

After the alighting passengers leave the train, some military officers in service dress uniform stepped onto the train, and diligently wrote down everyone's name on a registry. At the same time, the electric locomotive was disconnected from the train, and a diesel locomotive took its place.

Nanxiang Village (15 km north of Ganzhou), 12:17.

A group of insurgents emerged out of one of the village houses with some tools. Then, very quickly, they cut a slit into the tracks, with hopes that this would derail the train. However, as they will find out soon enough, they would derail the wrong train. However, it doesn't matter anyway, as they would soon be firing upon a train.

Meanwhile, Heyuan Station.

The Nacradian representative excused himself from a conversation. He walked down to the platform, then lit a cigarette to deal with his craving for another cigarette.

Heryuan Railway station

Piikalan Diplomat Kobayashi, Hiroshi decided to step outside of the train carriage and stretch his legs and get some fresh air as the train car started to get stuffy as the Kempeitai agents were busy at work getting their weapons ready. So all the doors and windows were shut to keep prying eyes away from what the agents were doing. Hiroshi stepped outside of the carriage and onto the station platform with a loud click from his wooden slippers onto the platform side. He saw a man that he recognized as the Nacard diplomat who appeared to be smoking a cigarette smoking down at the end of the platform—walking down the platform with his wooden slippers making a distinct wooden clicking sound and then leaned on a wall next to the Nacard diplomat. He grabbed a small flask inside his kimonos pouch and took out a small metal flask and popped it open, taking a sip of Amazake from it. Then put his right hand on his heart and made a shallow bow and said with a British accent in a sarcastic voice, "Isn't it a nice for a train ride through a war zone Mr. Diplomat?"

[Nacrad]

"Hah! Well, it isn't a warzone here yet, thankfully. Nacrad is pretty stable, but once we pass the border there, it's officially gonna be a warzone. Where we were going through is the capital region of Nacrad," he replied, "So the ride is not nearly going to be as comfortable as what we had just been on. Welcome to Nacrad, by the way, although we're going to leave Nacrad soon."

Suddenly, the electric locomotive detached from the train, and moved forwards out of the way. Soon, a diesel locomotive backed into the train and connected, making a loud clang. After that, a cool breeze came from the carriage (all trains in Nacrad are air-conditioned), then the lieutenant stepped off the train to stretch his legs too. He saw the 2 diplomats, and greeted them sarcastically, "Isn't it nice to go for a walk in this hot weather?"

[Piikala]

The Piikalan diplomat Kobayashi Hiroshi chuckled at the luttenients remark and said, "Well this ain't too bad I had to march through worse when I had NS(National Service) and had to patrol the Lesser Australian outback!" followed by a slight chuckle. He then offered the luttenient a swig from his flask and asked the Nacard diplomat, "So what's it like in this rough patch of the track?" When one of the Kempeitai agents steps out onto the platform and yells something inaudible across the platform in Piikalan and Hiroshi responds saying in Piikalan, "Can't hear you talk later!" So the assistants walks up to the group and put his right hand on his chest and bows. He then says in a calm voice in Piikalan, "Mr Kobayashi sir we have received information from the ministry. They have alerted us that agents on the ground in Nanxiang have found out rebels have cut the track there and derailed a train." Hiroshi looks a the assistant and responds in English saying a calm voice, "Thank you for this information. Now can you please do me a favour and get this young luttenient a bottle of sake for him and his friends."

[Nacrad]

"Oh, wow, thanks for your generosity, I'm sure my men would enjoy this bottle of sake," responds the Lieutenant. Neither the representative nor the lieutenant decided to ask the Piikalan diplomat about what his assistant has told him, as they thought that it was private information.

"Well, National Rail's schedule shows that we need 4 hours to get to Ganzhou, so I assume that it's not going to be as fast or as smooth as what we had back there. I suppose that the track is more bumpy there," the Nacradian said, as he finished his cigarette and decided to retreat back to the air-conditioned train, "Excuse me, as I would like to return to the train. It's far too hot here, haha."

At the same time, Nanxiang.

A train locomotive drove northbound, slowly over the crack. However, the repair would only take at most 3 hours, and it would be done before the train arrives at the broken point, so the conductor was told to dispatch the train as per schedule.

[Piikala]

Hiroshi gave a warm smile and said to the lieutenant, “It’s no problem at all. I remember when I was in the military alcohol was one of the greatest joys one could have. So I hope you enjoy it.” Hiroshi then proceeds back into the carriage and goes to his cabin as the three Kempeitai agents were sitting seiza and bowing towards a small shrine with a picture of the emperor of Piikala in it while saying a prayer to their ancestors in Hawaiian wishing for a safe journey and a safe battle. While Hiroshi sat down his head bowing down in respect to his emperor, he joined them saying, “Na ke akua mana e hāʻawi iā mākou i kaftey no kā mākou huakaʻi, e kiaʻi me kā mākou ala, e ʻae iā mākou e make i ka hanohano.” After the agents and the diplomat were done, they carefully lifted the picture out of its shrine with a white cloth and then placed the image into a golden padded box and closed it very gently. At the same time, the agents prepared for departure and put on their combat suit(a black coloured modernized samurai suit with kevlar basically).

12:30, Heyuan Station.

"B6942, proceed at line speed."
"Proceed at line speed, B6942. Thanks."

The engineer blew the horn, and pushed down on the throttle, as the doors close and the train eased forwards. This leg of the journey would be less comfortable and less stable. Representative Kwok prayed,

Oh Lord, may you protect the safety of this train, so that we can arrive at Ji'an safely.

Soon, the track became bumpy after passing a small station, and the electricity line ended. The track started inclining upwards, and cut through mountains. At 13:00, waiters came in to serve them lunch.

16:45, Ganzhou Station.

The train stopped at Ganzhou, though the announcement is that, if you are not going to Ganzhou, remain on the train. Representative Kwong also did remain. Unbeknownst to them, things are about to go catastrophically wrong.

17:00. The train departed again, now towards Xinguo Station. However, a hiccup is going to happen, as the rebels now sabotaged the level crossing, causing the signal light to illuminate red as the level crossing cannot close. However, this would not be discovered until too late...

17:19.

"It's a yellow," says the assistant engineer. A yellow means that the next signal is a red, so the engineer cut back on the throttle and lightly applied the brakes. Little did he know, this would prove to be a mistake.

Several minutes later, the train comes to a grinding halt at a station platform. The engineer glanced at the signal. Still a red. Then he looked at the station name marker. It read "Nanxiang Station".

He called into the radio, as per protocol, "B6942 calling Ganzhou, we're stopped at Nanxiang. Any news on what's up?"
"Yes, there's a snafu with a level crossing, eta 30 minutes. Wait at position until light turns green."
"Roger that, B6942."

Suddenly, shots rung out from every direction. They've been ambushed. The conductor yelled into the microphone, "EVERYBODY GET DOWN!"

At the same time, the Lieutenant yelled at his soldiers, "We've been ambushed, GO! GO! GO!", as the doors to the carriage is opened, and the platoon spills out onto the track. A corporal said into the intercom for the diplomats, "If any of you have bodyguards, please have them come out and help defend the train, thanks!"

Train, 10:00

Queen, it's a little cramped here unlike Tyranis trains.

Yes, said the queen, and we are not in Tyrannis, call me Alena.It is best for a good part of us to move to 2 adjoining rooms.

One of Alena's friends opened the door and went to the next room, followed by several others. Soon they were all arranged in three rooms.

Heryuan Railway station

The train stopped at the station and Alena decided not to go out but to stay in her room.

[Nacrad]

"Mayday, mayday, mayday, B6942 at Nanxiang Station. Code Red. I say again, Code Red. I require reinforcements now. I say again, I require reinforcements now," the lieutenant spoke calmly into the radio, which is connected to Ganzhou's garrison. He repeated it every minute, and impatiently waited for someone to respond.

Meanwhile, outside the train.

"Alpha squad, secure the left side, Bravo Squad, head to the locomotive. Charlie Squad, right side. HQ, stay on the train. Got it?"
"Yes, sergeant!"

The soldiers moved into position.

[Piikala]

The Piikalan Kempeitai agents were suddenly jostled about their cabin when the train came to a stop. Causing the Piikalan diplomat who was eating lunch in the lunch car and his assistant in the cabin to suddenly feel a knot in their stomachs and their finely tuned senses telling them danger was coming. So the Kempeitai agents grabbed their weapons and a small drone in a small metal box and stepped out of the cabin and out the carriage. Ignoring the warnings, they heard over the intercom they stepped out of the carriage and onto the gravel lined side of the tracks. Then popped open the small aluminium box revealing a small grey foam aircraft that one of the agents took out and threw into the air with a soft electric buzz. At the same time, the other two Piikalan agents slipped off the safety of their machine guns and stood on guard when suddenly one of the agents opened fire killing a bird that stood on the edge of the track. While Hiroshi ran through the carriage and into his cabin ignoring the calls to duck down, he opened one of the diplomatic pouches and radioed a message to the War Pagoda of their situation and asked for immediate Piikalan air support at his location. Then opened another box, grabbed his gun, ammunition, an RPG, and some rockets. Then ran out to the nearest exit to join his comrades.

Meanwhile in International waters near the Kongsi region aboard the Piikalan Cruiser Nagato:

“Sir message from the War Pagoda!” said the Piikalan naval luttenient as he stood on the bridge of the nuclear-powered cruiser. The captain, a Hawaiian Asian mixed woman in her early fifties, asked the luttenient to read the message. “It says that a Diplomat in the geographical area requests immediate air support and gives us orders to launch a Haehae(A Piikalan supper sonic drone similar to the Russians S-70) to provide air support.” So the captain ordered the launch. A sudden bright light was seen coming from the ship as a Piikalan attack drone was launched from a Piikalan naval vessel with the assistance of rockets. As it’s pilot stationed in Piikala carefully flew the drone under the Nacard radar and over the coast leaving a bright trail of light and smoke behind it as it started to enter Kongsi airspace.

"B6942, roger, a battalion is on your way, eta 15 minutes. Stand fast, lieutenant."
"I don't have 15 minutes. Make it snappier."
"Make 15 minutes. 15 mins is the fastest I can go."
"Fuck me dead! Fine, 15 mins, roger."

In the meantime, outside the train.
"Left side! 50 insurgents in the hills, Machine gunner, go get him!"
"On the fucking way, corporal!"
The guns were firing non-stop, suppressing the insurgents. However, the Nacradians are outnumbered and outgunned, as more than 200 insurgents surrounded the train. Nevertheless, the Nacradians kept shooting, and prayed that support is on its way. Shots landed on the gravel, the platforms and the train car, making a disheartening concerto of noise.

In the meantime, Ganzhou.

"Scramble the jets! I need a squad in the air right fucking now!"
5 airmen climbed into their jets, then the ground crew quickly but carefully filled the fuel tanks. Soon enough, they were taxiing down to the runway and took off. After that, they did a sharp right turn, and aimed their munitions on the hills next the Nanxiang Station, hoping to wipe out the insurgents.

[Zolkova]

"Меня ударили! Меня ударили!"

Ana Popov glanced behind her as she crouched in the doorway, her wide blue eyes drinking in the death and carnage unfolding. A Zolkovan journalist languished on the floor of the train car's hallway, his nicely pressed shirt stained crimson with blood, his yells of pain fraught with the certainty of death. The other members of Ana's delegation were more prepared. The four of them...Ana, the senior diplomat Johnny Kuznetsov, and the two members of their security detail all had their weapons drawn while they crouched for cover...simple handguns, but better than nothing.

Ana watched as the reporter, the lone independent in their diplomatic delegation, writhed in agony, his breaths getting shorter and faster by the minute. Johnny cursed under his breath as another volley of gunfire rang out, and a second later the journalist was forgotten.

There was no love of the news media in Zolkova, and while the fellow had certainly helped to authenticate their purpose there, dead was dead...and there was hardly time to mourn.

“Getting more then we bargained for, eh Ana?” Johnny quipped, as he grasped for his lost glasses with one hand and pointed his gun with the other. Ana snorted, certainly annoyed but never daring to take her eyes from the train car's exit and entrance points. He was right. Compared to her recent work, this assignment was supposed to be a lay-up...a diplomatic sight-seeing trip to give her a much needed break from the field.

And yet here they were in God knows where, right in the middle of a fire-fight. Go figure.

“Smells like insurgents,” Ana growled, as an announcement requesting that everybody kindly defend the train rang out over the PA. She crawled her way half-way up the hallway, her three compatriots following directly behind. “I thought you said this was a peace mission.”

“Yah...yah...that's how your ZIB handlers described it anyways. Think of it as a harmless choo choo ride they said....HA!” Johnny cawed, drawing a fierce glare from Ana. Sometimes she resented having to work so directly with civilian personnel. Kuznetsov was a God damn nuisance.

“I'm not leaving this fucking train by the way,” the blonde-haired Zolkovan diplomat declared, forcing another eye roll from Ana. “Let the bastards shoot each other until the cavalry gets here.”

Johnny wasn't wrong. The Zolkovans had no stake in this fight. Not yet, at least.

[Nacrad]

"OK, there's the train. Remember, if in doubt, aim too far out. I'd rather you waste a couple hundred on a bomb that doesn't hit shit than to have collateral. Civs onboard."
"Roger that, sarge, let's start now."
"OK, fire when ready."

For some reason, it felt wrong in the eyes of Private Ivanovich to drop these bombs on the civilian fields and villages. Of course, he doesn't know the atrocious strat bombers were doing to Nanchang a few hundred kilos northwards -- but it takes less of a toll on the mind if you're bombing from some 30,000 feet in the air. It doesn't matter, however. The task at hand is bombing the insurgents.

Private Ivanovich lined up a shot, then he yanked the bomb release lever, and the bomb fell precisely on target, taking out half a dozen insurgents and a machine gun position. Then, he yanked the jet up and around, and then strafed some insurgents with his autocannon, levelling a few houses in the way.

The platoon, however, could hardly hold on. Some insurgents got into bayonet range, and killed a few of the soldiers. It is evident that they would need the reinforcements to arrive faster, or else the diplomats would be kidnapped.

"Right side, 50 insurgents, caution!"

He was right. 50 insurgents appeared behind the dense woods, and charged towards the diplomats' carriage. The squad holding that side put up a fierce fight, but they were outnumbered nearly 3-to-1. The squads reorganised themselves, but it was all too late. The insurgents used bayonets to kill anyone who dared to stand in their way, before they can even shoot. They quickly entered the train carriage, and yelled in English with a heavy accent, "We are the Kongsi Democratic Forces. All you bourgeoisie diplomats, come out hands up, or else we kill you!"

At the same time, another 30 insurgents came in from another direction, pinning the remaining squad down, while the other insurgent team began pushing into the diplomat carriage.

The Piikalan diplomat Kobayashi Hiroshi and his assistants could hear the sound of fighting going on in the distance. As they listened to the battle going on, Hiroshi sent one of his assistants to get the equipment that they had onboard the carriage. While they waited, they heard the sound of men being bayoneted down as the assistant came with a box in hand. They ran off into the nearby woods and decided to use guerilla-style tactics and wait for air support that would take another forty-five minutes to arrive. So they set up their sniper rifles and took out and put on their ghillie suits and got comfortable. While their small drone circled overhead above the battle watching as the carriage was overrun with insurgence.

Meanwhile, one of the Piikalan agents set up a small mortar they brought with them as Hiroshi devised a plan to take out the enemies that outnumbered them. So he and one of the other agents carefully set up a minefield between them and the train then proceeded into the diplomatic carriage. Where they quickly rushed to their cabin and destroyed their radio equipment and codebook. Then set up a booby trap in their room that would set off a grenade if the boxes were opened. So they prepared to make their escape through the cabin door. When suddenly they ran into an insurgent who was trying to make his way down the carriage hallway. So they grabbed their Lei-o-Manos hitting the guy over the head, leaving him dead before he had time to react. Suddenly they saw more insurgents coming up the hallway, so they threw a flash-bang grenade down the hall that exploded with a bang as the group broke open the glass window to their cabin and hopped out and ran into the forest with caution to avoid stepping onto a mine. At the same time, bullets flew overhead from the angry insurgence causing the two to drop down into the bush and army crawl away as the small grey drone continued to circle overhead watching the action unfold.

The Queen and her group of friends heard mortar shots and blows. While listening to the ongoing battle, Alena sent two of her friends to bring the equipment from their rooms that they had brought with them."Great, these must be rebels, this whole ride has become more exciting, put on your suits, let's go to the party," Alena shouted.

Alena and her friends put on special suits and took their weapons and started walking on the train looking for a way out, they suddenly ran into two rebels, Rodrigo immediately cut them in half with his sword, killing them.

Alena and her entourage saw a group of rebels trying to enter one of the cabins, Donald threw two fire bombs that exploded burning a group of rebels alive. The group continued to walk along the train to the door and where they got out and hurried into the woods where Alena and friends hid behind the trees waiting for the attack.

“Looks like we're leaving the train after all,” Ana remarked sarcastically, as the four of them dropped their weapons and slid them over to their new captors. An interesting twist of fate, but hardly a morale blow. There were still cards to play. The rules had changed, sure, but the game was still the same.

The four were marched outside the train car with their hands up, silent but absolutely stoic. Bodies lay strewn all over the place...stabbed, burned, riddled with bullets. Ana glanced beside her at their delegation's senior diplomat, Johnny Kuznetsov.

While Kuznetsov presumably had some sort of combat training...he was allegedly some sort of former military officer after all...the blood and entrails, coupled with the hot, humid weather and the stench of burnt flesh...were clearly starting to get to him. His short-sleeved dress shirt was soaked through with sweat, and his blonde hair was plastered to his wet forehead. He took his glasses off to wipe the sting out of his eyes.

"Мы сдаемся. Пожалуйста, не причиняйте нам вреда!" he yelled in Zolkovan, though he thought better of it moments later. "We surrender, we surrender. Do not harm us, please!"

Ana would have regarded her colleague with pity if she'd had any, but truthfully she was disgusted. Kuznetsov wasn't such a comedian with a gun pointed at his head. The 37-year-old junior "diplomat" watched Johnny try to communicate with their captors with contempt in her blue eyes, her own dark curly hair matted and sticky with sweat. At least she was wearing a sleeveless blouse and sandals...though the black business pants she wore were hardly comfortable in this humidity.

Ana wondered quietly how the chips would fall.
