Amid the controlled chaos of the airbase- the shouting men, the ordinance wheeled around, and above it the scream of the engines, paced a single man, in a weatherbeaten camouflage jacket that had seen much better days- Lieutenant Colonel Flavius Aquitaine. And he was a very, very, busy man.
As Ciorsdan spoke, he barely looked up from the report he was reading. "Eh? Alright." He paused for a second to rub his exhausted, bloodshot eyes, before closing them for a second. "I'm rather busy at the moment, but since you bothered to look for me, I can spare some time. Make it quick, lass. Fire away-what do you want to know?"

PRINCIPALITY OF BELKA

An abandoned Belkan fortress in the Waldsreich Mountains, a survivor of the Belkan War. Such facilities would be reopened by the Germans.

Logistics is a pain in the ass.

Now that Operation Sea Lion was complete, and a German combat-ready presence was established, it was time to prepare for Operation Barbarossa. Round-the-clock airlift operations, and the generous amount of transport vessels available to the Kriegsmarine delivered large amounts of men and materiél to Belka, supplemented by the Belkan merchant fleet and airlines, thanks to the new pro-German ultranationalist administration. This was the easiest part, compared to the problem of what to do with the new arrivals.

Many of the first Germans to arrive were those in charge of logistics. They organized the procurement of facilities, goods and manpower from the Belkans, wheeling and dealing with local contractors to secure fresh food, housing, fuel, vehicles and forklifts. All of the former Belkan military facilities were being opened, notably the air base at Mount Schirm, and tent cities where German troops were temporary billeted sprung up in cities. Command facilities were being repaired at Avalon Dam and Excalibur, and rumors were rife about excavation work at the Yering Mine.

Aside from logistics, there was the question of implementing the planned roadmap for Belka.

Defenseless due to the treaties that shackled it, the Belkan government was "reshuffled" by nationalist-revanchist plotters under the protection of the Germans, thousands of which poured into Belka daily. None other than Waldemarr Rald led the new government, and many former Gray Men and supporters of A World Without Borders recieved high posts. This new government signed a treaty of friendship with Germany, and a sign of goodwill from the Urheimat , a line of credit and soft loans were extended to the new ultranationalist administration, along with the promise of the return of lost Belkan territories.

The first order of the day is to re-establish the Belkan armed forces. There were many veterans of the Belkan War on hand, as well as former members of A World Without Borders and a generation of young nationalists resentful of the humiliation of Belka. Using these men, the new Belkan Armed Forces began to form units. Many of the surviving Belkan aces returned to Belka or surfaced again at the behest of the Gray Men, whatever weapons were hidden away by the Grey Men were brought out, and training activities have begun.

Many brigades were slated to be formed for the new Belkan Army, using a combination of veteran former soldiers, terrorists and mercenaries, and inexperienced young men motivated by nationalist sentiments. There were discussions about integrating these Belkan units into German divisional structures, potentially allowing many German brigades and rear-line units to stay home and easing the demands on German manpower. The Belkans would be provided the armaments used by these brigades by a Lend-Lease arrangement and would get invaluable combat experience.

As for the Belkan Air Force, air squadrons, ground crews, and anti-air units were formed, and as with ground units, they were was a possibility of integration into the Luftwaffe command structuure for the duration of the war. Whatever aircraft the Gray Men managed to keep hidden from disarmament inspectors were being taken out and overhauled for the use of the Belkan pilots, and the balance would come from German strategic reserves, as well as most of the armament of these aircraft.

The Belkan Navy was the farthest from progress. What ships that escaped the notice of demilitarization enforcers were to be recommissioned, but these had to be laid up in drydock for reconditioning and outfitting with modern electronics and weapons, which would take time. Besides, the planned resurrection of the Belkan fleet was more for the post-war environment and as a demonstration of the German committment to a Belkan resurgence, and the silver lining was that the question of manning the fleet could be postponed. However, there was talk of manning lighter units to provide an coastal complement to the Kriegsmarine, as well as procurement of modern submarines.

The road to Barbarossa and the resurgence of Belka as a power in it's own right was long, but good progress was being made.

Off the coast of Joyea, near Joyea City

The LNS. Hughes, despite its heavy defenses and armor could not take two more torpedos and began to sink after the munitions hold blew. The torpedo aimed at the reactor actually hit a dropping depth charge and made quite the explosion that injured but only managed to get the reactor to activate its emergency shutdown . The crew of the Hughes immediately began evacuating and soon there was a fleet of life boats surrounding the hughes. The helicopters onboard were transferred to miscellaneous other ships containing helipads. As for most of the other torpedoes, they were shot by PDC's and destroyed. The LNS. Camel, The LNS. Orca, and the LNS. Snail were all lost to the wave. reducing the force of marine to 70,000. All other ships in the. convoy sustained damage of one way or another. The missiles also managed to sink the LNS. Silent Hero.

Lacienia FOB

The cruise missiles came in and obliterated the primary entrances to the cave. Out of the 300 commandos, 50 died in the explosion and. all their vehicles were obliterated other than a. humvee. and a helicopter inside the caves for repairs. The commandos will spend the. next few days looking for a way out and clearing the exit.

MNS Uinen - hunter-killer attack submarine
Off the coast of Erusea:

The crew in Uinen's control room watched the sonar plot as their torpedoes approached the Langenian subs. "Conn, sonar. Noisemakers detected bearing 085."

Captain Davids nodded. The Langenians had spotted the incoming torps. Their tracks on the sonar plot suddenly changed direction as the enemy subs began evasive maneuvers. Then the first torpedo hit with an audible BOOM, and the sonar report came in. "Contact lost: Sierra 2. Contact breaking up. Contacts lost: Sierra 1 and 3. Contacts faded."

That was unfortunate. The sound of the torpedoed sub was hiding her two nearest companions from Uinen's sonar, which meant that the Uinen couldn't use the guidance wires on her other torpedoes to redirect them onto their intended targets. The remaining three torpedoes would inevitably home in on the loudest contact around: the wreck of the sinking submarine. The waste of three perfectly good torpedoes was irksome to the captain, but there was nothing to be done about it. Uinen needed to act quickly to take advantage of the confused sonar picture and their enemies' present state of disorder. "Fire control, shoot tubes one and two as ordered," he directed. "Torpedo room, cut the wires and begin reloading. Helm, come to heading 085. Increase speed to 25 knots. Make depth 600 feet."

As the last three torpedoes of her previous salvo exploded against the wreck of the Langenian sub, Uinen fired her last two torpedo tubes. The torpedo room crew immediately cut all six wires (one per torpedo tube) and began the process of reloading. Reloading a torpedo tube on a submarine was a rather involved process, and loading all six of Uinen's tubes could take up to 45 minutes; stealth and safety were more important for a sub than speed.

The two weapons Uinen had just fired rushed off to port, away from the Langenian subs to starboard; a course Uinen herself might be expected to take if she was intent on leaving the engagement. The first weapon was a Mobile Submarine Simulator (MOSS), a decoy designed to perfectly mimic the active and passive sonar signatures of the launching submarine. The second was another Mk 48 torpedo that had been programmed to run straight after the MOSS for 2km, then turn to engage the fourth Langenian submarine, Sierra 4.

To the Langenians, it would look like the Uinen was making her escape to the northwest, then after 2km fired a torpedo southwards toward Sierra 4. Meanwhile, the real Uinen would have made a high-speed dash directly towards the sinking submarine - in the exact opposite direction from the MOSS, and increased her depth by a few hundred feet. The cacophony of over stressed metal, bursting bulkheads, in-rushing water, and out-rushing air from the sinking sub, combined with the noisemakers dropped by the other two Langenian boats would hide Uinen's already near-silent movements from her remaining three opponents, and would make her completely undetectable while they lasted. Of course, it would also prevent the Uinen from hearing anything her enemies were doing so long as she remained nearby, but she had a way around this.

With her maneuver complete, Uinen now sat on the opposite side of the wrecked sub, with it to her port side and - if they'd continued on their previous course in order to chase the MOSS - with Sierras 1 and 3 further to port beyond it. Sierra 4 would also be to port, but further aft than the other two. Uinen was only about 100 feet above the seabed, as the bottom here was at a moderate 700 feet.

Satisfied that his vessel was well positioned, Captain Davids turned his attention to the next matter at hand. "Launch ROV," he ordered. "Send it down to see if we can't pick up Sierra 4." (Sierra 4 would be easier to detect since it was further away from all the noise). On the Uinen's underside, a small hangar quietly slid open and a remotely controlled UUV swam slowly out into the water. It was about the same size and shape as a torpedo, but equipped with more sensitive sonar systems instead of a warhead. Trailing the cable that connected it to the submarine, the UUV crept carefully away from the wreck until it was far enough from the noise to pick up the Langenians. The sound of noisemaker countermeasures from the direction of Sierra 4 indicated that she was trying to evade the torpedo that Uinen had fired after the MOSS. Farther out, the sound of a pair of torpedoes - probably fired by Sierra 4 - could be heard headed away after the MOSS. Sierra 1 and 3 were harder to make out as they were closer to the sunken submarine, but their faint signatures appeared to chasing the MOSS as well.

By now, Uinen had half her torpedoes reloaded, and Captain Davids decided to use them. The first two torpedoes swam out after Sierra 1 and Sierra 2. If those two subs were indeed chasing after Uinen's MOSS as they seemed to be, then the torpedoes would be coming from directly in their baffles - the area behind a submarine where its sonar couldn't see due to the entire boat and all its machinery being in the way. If the two submarines didn't change course, there was a good chance neither boat would have any idea the torpedoes were coming until they hit. The third torpedo was sent after Sierra 4, just in case fighting one torpedo wasn't exciting enough for her.

Off the coast of Erusea,

the fourth Langenien submarine could hear the Mitheldalondian submarine trying to escape, then firing two torpedoes at them. "Evasive manuevers!" ordered the captain. "Deploy the SSC!" The SSC (Señuelo de Submarino de Combate), similar to the American-made MOSS was deployed. The Mitheldalondian torpedos ended up chasing the SSC. The other two Langenien submarines also heard Mitheldalondian torpedoes coming for them, and deployed their SSCs. The Mitheldalondian torpedoes also ended chasing their SSCs. They then made their escape, just in time. A Langenien frigate had observed an oil slick coming from the bottom of the ocean and using their sonar, discovered that a submarine battle was taking place. They'd deduced that the larger squadron of submarines heading from Erusea were Langenien, coming from dropping off commandos in Erusea. The other submarine was probably Osean-aligned, chasing after the Langenien subs. They then started releasing depth charges in an attempt to sink the possibly Osean-aligned sub.

Erusea
The presence of a frigate off of the coast of Erusea was something that could not be ignored, not in the slightest.
The Erusean response was a multifaceted attack on said frigate.

The missile cruiser NSM Charles II and the destroyer NSM Bathory steamed to intercept the frigate. From a good range- around 90 nautical miles- they began to launch anti-ship missiles at the frigate. In conjunction, shore-based F-15s began to attack the frigate with anti-ship missiles, in conjunction with EA-6 Prowler electronic-warfare aircraft jamming radars and firing radiation-homing missiles in an attempt to force the frigate to shut down it's radar systems...which were key to it's survival against the F-15s and incoming anti-ship missiles.

a Langenien frigate is dropping depth charges when it is suddenly attacked by Erusean forces. Taking heavy damage, it blows up and sinks, though not before depth charges have been used to sink the Mitheldalondian submarine.

MOUNT SCHIRM
PRINCIPALITY OF BELKA

Mount Schirm, one of the mightiest airbases of Belka. Abandoned after the war, the Germans restored it to it's former glory and rightful purpose.

The Oseans were itching for a fight, or so the Germans thought.

VHF early-warning radars around Mount Schirm detected two bogeys inbound from Osean airspace, after a pilot strayed into Osean airspace by accident. Apparently he was painted at se point because now two bogeys were after him, thus ground control advised him to hot-tail it back to base. 4 F-22s from JG 54 were sent to intercept the Osean aircraft if they entered Belkan airspace and make them back off.

AA systems around the area were on alert, including supporting passive radar units, which did not produce emissions, but simply located their targets using the reflections of other electromagnetic waves off them, such as those produced by radio and TV transmitters. While Germany did not want to fire the first shot, if the Oseans did anything funny Germany would not take that lying down. Notably, the F-22s recieved information from the VHF radars and passive radar receivers through their datalinks.

Lacienian Naval Convoy 1300

The Lacienian fleet had taken advantage of the Langenians shifting their focus towards the Erusian coast. They managed to put their damage in check and start to ready the landing craft. Amidst the bustle of the preparation, two men are talking about the upcoming invasion of Joyea.

" Do you think the landing will work?" said one soldier.

The second soldier responded by gesturing towards a landing craft and saying "Our equipment is solid and those Joyeans. won't know what hit them until. we are marching on the Streets of Joyea City."

The landing craft that he pointed at was a durable piece of armored the size of a hauling truck and capable of landing on almost any outcropping beach.

Lacienian Naval Convoy 2300

Having shifted their sleep schedule, the Lacienians are loading into their landing craft and making final preparations to storm the beaches. As this was going on, a speech was. given to all of the soldiers. The speech is mainly remembered for the phrase "We are the spearhead, we are the Cannon. We must make the breach so our fellow soldiers can stream forth to the glowing gates of victory."

With the speech over, the Landing craft began to ship out and go forth to the beaches of Joyea City.

OOC: The beaches in reference would be almost unoccupied beaches in a suburbs about 23 kilometers of Joyea City. These beaches were chosen for the fact that there were no sizable fortifications present and a military. response would take a little bit longer to mobilize and that gives a slight advantage.

Flavius was silent for a bit, staring down at the paper, before turning to face Ciorsdan. "Go ahead." he replied. "Start your record, I suppose."

After giving her some time, he continued. "I have my orders." He dully replied. "Assist Osean forces in finding, fixing, and destroying enemy troops, and in conducting both reactive and proactive actions against hostile aircraft."
He paused for a second. "As for why we're here?"
His face darkened. "Let me dispel something, lass. A lot of the Oseans here think we care about them. We don't. I don't give a shit about Osea or what happens to it. I fought in the last war, and if I had my way, I would be raining PGMs on this airbase and on Oured to boot. But someone in Farbanti decided to send us, and now we're here. Apparently a communist Osea would be even shitter than the current government. If that's even fuckin' possible."

With the Langenian frigate sunk at the hands of the Eruseans, the current action had ended, and it was safe to communicate. Once she was a safe distance from the two Erusean ships - they may ostensibly have been friendly, but there was no point risking an adverse reaction to a foreign submarine this close to their territorial waters - Uinen released a small communications buoy, then headed off after the Langenian subs. Captain Davids had decided against any further attacks for now, as the Langenians were clearly on alert. He would follow them silently until a more opportune moment presented itself.

The buoy reached the surface and quickly sent off a report of the engagement to Mitheldalond. It also transmitted a short range telex message for the two Erusean ships that had taken out the frigate. The message was unencrypted, since Mitheldalond and Erusea had not established any encryption protocols for direct communication between military forces.

Off the Coast of Joyea - Near Joyeah City:

A pair of F/A-19 Thunderhawks from Strike Group Gilraen streaked across the sea, nearly at wave-top height, and actively broadcasting Mitheldalondian IFF. The Lacienian fleet was just up ahead, and they preferred to avoid being shot at by the fleet they were there to assist.

The two fighters were equipped for anti-sub warfare, which was an unusual capability for a modern fighter jet. They carried two large pods under their fuselage; one pod held 20 sonobuoys, while the other held the equipment that allowed the aircraft to communicate with them, in addition to a towed MAD array. Each plane carried four MU90 Impact torpedoes on its under-wing pylons, in addition to its usual air-to-air weapons. They began searching for the Langenian submarines attacking the Lacienian fleet.

High overhead, another pair of Thunkerhawks patrolled. Armed for air-to-air combat, this pair was tasked with providing top cover for their squadron mates below, and intercepting any Joyean aircraft that tried to attack the Lacienian fleet.

Elsewhere, an E-2 Hawkeye providing radar surveillance for the Mitheldalondian fleet had intercepted military transmissions between Joyea and a Langenian ship [OOC: your command ship]. While it couldn't read the encrypted messages, it had been able to trace them back to the area of the Langenian ship. Now, another pair of Thunderhawks with anti-ship weapons was headed out to find and sink it.

North of Studentor, Osea:

A lone RQ-170 Sentinel soared through the sky towards the Belkan border. Satellite imagery had indicated suspicious surges of activity around several Belkan military bases, and its mission was to conduct detailed reconnaissance of these areas to determine exactly what the Belkans - or more worryingly, the Germans - were up to.

A small airbase near the Joyean trenches has been established with a single Fk 2 medium bomber, 8 Hellcat 3000 fighter jets, 4 Su 25 attack jets, and 1 F-111 attack/air interdiction aircraft. Conditions in the trenches are decreasing a contributing factor is the fact that troops change from the front line to the second line every month not every week much like during world War 1. Heavy rains have also been a contributing factor. Joyean troops are being hammered by Osean artillery. We have some D-20 and S-23 emplacements and some mortars but nothing else. What has been worrying foreign intelligence agency's is footage of thousands upon thousands of Joyean troops marching or driving through Joyeah City and being loaded on board landing craft. We are planning to begin the second part of our invasion of Osea soon.

The Joyeans had decided to send the single Fk 1 bomber that was in Osea to drop free fall bombs and missiles on McNealy AFB. The took around 4.5 hours to reach the base and they left at 8:17 AM. After it arrived it emptied it's 12,000 pounds of bombs and missiles on the base destroying hangers, aircraft, and an ordinance storage facility. We are unsure how many people died or were injured. About 8 hours later a single F 111 interdictor aircraft flew over the base and dropped a few bombs to help slow down recovery efforts. Joyean Su 25s have regularly been bombing the base to prevent rebuilding efforts.

The Joyean Air Corp have begun loading there aircraft with as many missiles rockets, and bombs that they can carry in the event of an enemy counter strike. We have bumped up our force protection condition to FPCON Charlie which includes increased patrols of bases, our coast, and our airspace. We have established checkpoints throughout our bases with Military police and/or infantryman, anti tank guns, and BTR 40 APCs which are used as gatekeepers and checkpoint vehicles. The Joyean navy has launched aircraft from its aircraft carriers that are fully loaded with weapons to fly over enemy ships. They will not attack them they will only fly over and observe. Troops onboard landing ships with escorts, destroyers, frigates, battleships, and carriers have met heavy resistance off the coast of Osea. Many Joyean vessels already off the coast of Osea have been sunk or heavily damaged.

4 F-15E Strike Eagles of the 188th TFS "Boomerangs" , 2 F-16CM fighting Falcons of the 301st FS "Green Devils" and 2 A-10's of the 217th FS "Bulldogs" Struck the enemy small airstrip sometime in the afternoon. one pair of the Strike Eagles hit the bomber and the attack aircraft with Paveway LGB's and CBU-97's another pair destroys the hangers for the aircraft. the F-16's took out the AAA's around the airstrip with AGM-65 Mavericks. the Strike Eagles then do a gun run to prevent the fighter jets from taking off.
