The Şêrdil Hotel and Casino would be open to the public soon, and they were about to go about their jobs for the first time. A bartender happened upon someone else's stash of empty bottles when looking for a place to hide the evidence of his own on-the-job drinking. The resident tailor had just finished sewing the last of their uniforms on, a show of wealth that most of the staff found unnecessary and annoying. (Especially when it came to taking bathroom breaks.) Some of the freshly-suited janitors used an available gambling table to place bets on whether they'd be getting paid at the end of the week. (The odds were running at five-to-one against, with Rêdûr Şêrdil's reputation to be considered.) What had once been a ballroom sat filled with gambling machines and tables. Games of poker, roulette, and pool waited across from rows of mechanical slot machines. (the beeping and blinking lights of the electrical machines had been considered too garish for Şêrdil's establishment so the older, clockwork machines were used instead.) Clocks ticked forwards towards opening time in the upstairs rooms, now refurbished into identical hotel suites. The hour finally arrived, two of the staff stepped forward and unlocked the doors, the rest of the staff waited expectantly for the arrivals.
