One of the tradition of our lovely region, Wintercrest, is role-playing and we do it annually. Last year, our role-play theme was the Cold War, but for this year, we wanted something less realistic and so we chose a modern-tech theme that mixed with some fantasy flavors. Expect the unexpected in this madness of a role-play and prepare yourself to be amazed by how wild the imagination of us, the Wintercrestians are !

Osea:

After the Great ISAFian War, Osea and Usea came together to build a massive maneuverable, low-orbiting spacecraft (and space center to go along with it). They succeeded, building the Lexicon Space Center (located in Northern Osea) and the Arkbird. It is a massive white bird, one might say it is like a dove. Indeed, it is a symbol of peace and cooperation between the two countries as well as a "neutral ground" for diplomatic endeavors. Why did I mention this? I have no idea.

In other news, Osea had announced that Mustang Naval Industries has won a contract to build a new aircraft supercarrier. Schematics show that this supercarrier would be the largest in history, at over 2,000 ft long (compare to Ford Class Aircraft Carrier, at only 1,107 ft.). The focus is on longevity, aiming for a service life of over 75 years and being able to cruise at sea for over 150 days. In addition, it will house 4 nuclear engines in addition to being able to hold over 125 aircraft. Due to the high tech level of Osea, Mustang plans on the carrier to be highly automated, meaning a large crew will not be required. The carrier is expected to cost over 30 billion dollars (Osean currency) and will most likely be completed in the next 3 years.

Usea: A recent study shows that the economy of Usea is rapidly rising and that by the end of the year, Usea will be in a position to be one of the world's largest economies. This can especially be seen in the information technology industry, which is expanding at an ever-increasing pace

Olympus: Olympic officials are hinting that the Games will be held towards the end of August this year and a list of all games and events will be released later this week. Also, they claim the gods are with them and be prepared for total domination.

Prime Minister Jeremy Truffle was recorded during party meeting saying that “[people with disabilities] are terrible, they just take money, like a black hole”. He stated that the video was fake, he would never say such a thing and that he loves his disabled mother in law. The video quickly became viral and caused outrage among Grelleionians.

Council of Paragons in an official statement told the government to put sanctions on Velyka Ukrayina and expressed its disappointment over Unity Party government's slow reaction.

March of the free-third Karkasian mass protest in support for independence ended in a clash against police, 30 people were injured. An unprecedented event in nations history. Rose Veller current paragon of Karkaz said that this shouldn’t have happened and that she will make sure justice is brought to those who are behind it.

While previously, the government's stance on the matter has always been that lakes do not exist, a growing number of people have taken to the streets claiming they've seen lakes in several places. Outside, for instance, in low-traffic woods. Or in their own backyards after it rains a lot. In the past these claims were refuted as those of rambling lunatics. However, after a large protest in Palermo where several people noticed that the entire city basically turns into a giant lake when it floods, the government is releasing this statement saying that we can neither confirm nor deny the existence of lakes.

With election coming up, the streets of Zogta is inevitably getting violent.
The Communist Party leader Carric Amanodel has been quoted today saying "Citizens matter the most", "Workers deserve respect", and most importantly, "What has the King done for us?"

King Chivoshar's supporters have taken this as a direct attack to their "heritage".

At 6 p.m. today, extreme Nationalist Supporters have attacked Communist headquarters in city of Vunorwi, setting it on fire.
2 were lightly injured, but non died. Fortunately, Carric Amanodel was out of the headquarters at the time, and this had no major effect on the Communist party.
The Nationalist Party is yet to deny their interference in the process, leading some to believe it was, in fact, propped by Nationalists to kill Carric Amanodel.

Prime Minister Corryn Qozyo is yet to adress this issue.

Eli Avario, Asmista's glorious leader, has declared that Asmista will begin looking towards the stars. A new space program is to be started, and will receive massive amounts of funding.

The project aims to create rockets capable of reaching outer space and remaining in orbit, and then later establish a permanent space station in orbit around the planet.

Should alliances be formed between now and the completion of the space station, Asmista would be open to scientific collaboration aboard the station.

The project is in early stages and as a result dates have not yet been released.

TOP SECRET

An additional branch of the military has been formed, known as the 'supra-terra navy'. (supra - above, terra - earth)

The focus of this branch is establishing space-borne weapon systems to ensure protection of Asmistan assets at times of heightening tensions with nations that have a presence in space.

The regular navy is also seeing some increased budgeting amidst the recent slight improvement in the economy.

President Vincent Harling is seated in the Pentagon Office in Bright Hill, looking over this form. ...16 years... 16 long years as the President of the Osean Federation. He did a pretty great job, considering he was taking over as the leader of a war-torn country that had just suffered a massive loss. First things first, he set upon rebuilding the economy. That wasn't too hard, there was a lot of demand for construction and manufacturing. That took the first 4 years and he did a pretty good job too. Next up? Downsizing. Massive cuts to the military primarily. Harling literally cut it in over half. From 18 million to above 8 million. However, he spent an incredible amount of time pouring money and energy into technology. So what Osea lost in manpower, they gained back in tech.

Speaking of tech, hoo boy. Ok, so the teleportation booths were a lie, but hey. They gained a whole bunch of money from the scam. Floating cities? Yea, actually. Flying cars? You betcha. The whole nation was powered by a combination of solar, wind and nuclear power. And while they hadn't achieved FTL travel, Osea was definitely a pioneer in space and air. Their power in the air was unrivaled anywhere in the world. This not only included aircraft, but also missile systems, satellites, etc.

This might be boring you, so let me move on. Next, Harling worked on paying off debts and reestablishing relations with nations across the world. He succeeded, enjoying major success in his 3rd term (2012) when Osea rejoined the ISAF. By his 4th (and final) term (2016-2020), Osea was the world's most technologically advanced, environmentally beautiful, and really, most powerful nation in the world.

As the 2020 presidential election comes up.. he can't help but worry about what might happen with whoever is elected president next. 16 years is a long, long time.

Anyways, all of this meant that Vincent Harling was the most popular president of all time, with an approval rating of over 76.8% (beating out 1960-68 (Terms were only 8 years back then) James Fredrick Kanozik (J.F.K.)'s of 73.2%) both with his people and internationally.

He smiled, signing the paper with his Max Barry (signature). He buzzed the intercom, asking his secretary to come in.

" Ms. Doren, please send this letter to The Union along with 1,312,500 ◊. Make it express, thank you." He then dismissed her, waiting until she left before going to the window and staring out at the Oured Monument...

"long has the shadowy hand of fascism loomed over every peaceful nation, capitalist, communist, or other. I, for one, will not tolerate this any longer. we have fought long and hard to ensure a peaceful, safe, and democratic life for our citizens, and not only our people should feel like this. we, as a great union, must band together and stop this dictatorial treachery. i propose the Freedom pact. as we know, all nations deserve to be free, and its people do as well. after this horrible massacre that has inflicted the Ukrainian people, striking them down ruthlessly as these people try to enact their great revenge on imprisonment of their future. i feel like as if i was standing under the great yolk of independence, and this strike has made put it down, and strike at those who have struck at the heart and soul on Freedom. the Freedom Pact is a reason. a voice to speak out for these oppressed people. if you value the Freedom and the yearning of the Human race, then you will join me, and together we will save those poor, defenseless souls who are locked in a system where the government will oppress them with no mercy of disregard."

he decides to open his desk, pulling out a military folder. he reads it, reminding himself of the real reason he needs this to work, and why we wants to free these people. as he reads it, his secretary runs in with the copies he wanted. he quickly put the folder into his desk, took the messages, and began to seal them and prepare them for sending.

as the begins to walk out, a paper flies out form the folder and onto his desk. on it, there are many small words, phrases, and other such things. but on it is has 5 big, bold words: Large Undetected Uranium Mineral Reserves

Today was President Sofía Halilović's first visit to the top-secret Earth Sciences laboratory across the river from Palermo. It was remarkable, really, that the people there didn't care about the ridiculous weather near there. Even when the rainforest had sprung up, nobody had cared. And now, with the earthquakes? Sofía wondered if the scientists were doing anything to the water. She hoped not, because she had had some on the way here. But it didn't really matter, now did it?

So yeah, today was the president's first visit. Before, she had just been sending her brother, Intelligence Minister Dmitri Halilović, instead of herself. But Dmitri was busy today trying to isolate an extremely radioactive isotope of Eruseum for use in political assassinations, so he couldn't make it. As she reached the heavily concealed entrance, she ignored it, walked past it, checked her GPS, and realized her mistake. Walking back to the spot where the lab was supposed to be, she looked around for about ten minutes before a door opened up in the side of a hill that hadn't been there two minutes prior. There was the sound of footsteps, and then, a voice.
"Hello, Sir. We've been expecting you." Sofía looked around, but puzzlingly, didn't see anyone. "Oh, sorry, Sir," the voice said, before a soldier stepped out from seemingly a veil. "New camouflage technology. I forgot I was wearing it." Sofía was about to ask what that had anything to do with 'earth sciences,' and then decided against it. She stepped into the remarkably clean, white corridor, and noticed that the scientists were drinking that new Ukrainian water (the government had begun smuggling supplies to and from the Ukrainian underground, to help the revolutionaries who were currently in hiding, as well as clear the way for an underground railroad of refugees expected to start migrating in a few weeks, once sweeps were carried out). She let out a silent sigh of relief - that was the water she had earlier. The soldier, apparently her guide, led her through a dark corridor, into a purple corridor, and lastly, they ended up in another white tunnel, occasionally lit up by blue flashes. In here, it seemed, they were attempting to contain the effects of large explosions - essential for the process to work.
"Hello, President Halilović," said the lead scientist guy. "I understand you're a busy man, so I'll make this brief. We have managed to provide insulation for up to 30 kilotons of trinitrotoluene. However, our partners in the seismology and volcanology department are predicting an explosion of about 50-80 kilotons. While we could work this out by ourselves, it would be much easier with, say, Osean collaboration? I understand they have a vested interest in making sure this project succeeds. Just a thought." Sofía thought it was a good idea, so she put it down as a note on her tablet.

The rest of the visit was particularly uneventful. The new Grenitadian scientists sent over were amazingly helpful, and the new due date for the project was February 9th, 2020. With Osean collaboration, the project was expected to only take until January 29th. When Sofía got back to the palace, she made sure to pen the letter to Vincent Harling immediately. She hoped there would be a quick response.

For President Vincent Harling of Osea:
A slight delay has arisen. While it will inevitably be worked out by our top scientists, you could speed the research process up by about ten days by just providing us with some schematics for your explosive containment designs. Who knows? We might give you a small price cut on any products you purchase from us in the future.

As he opened the envelope, Deutscheuropan Chancellor Heinrich Zimmerman smiled at the charm of such an old fashioned method of communication, and then read through it. This was clearly a matter of importance, so he went across the hall to show it to the king and the cabinet.
"We should accept," he told them, "We should protect the downtrodden peoples of the world."
The Foreign Minister was the first to respond. "It is time we made a move in international politics, certainly."
"Much of our steel is imported from Ukraine, it might be unwise to strain relations" Said the Minister for Industry
"Steel is not hard to come by, new trade deals can be made." Said Zimmerman.
"It is time we started to cut our ties with questionable regimes and aligned more with other democracies" Said the Foreign Minister.
As the ministers murmured their agreement, the king stood up: "I think we have reached a consensus."

Several hours later, the Chancellor publicly condemned the Ukrainian government's actions, and privately wrote a letter to President Hertworth, accepting his offer.

Today the heads of the ISAF and their advisors meet in the Curia Julia Senate House to discuss the letter received from El Grenitadian President, Jack Hertworth.

Osea's stance: Under President Harling, Osea has become more diplomatic, with military use being a last resort.

"Now, I'm sure we don't need to go in guns blazing. A stern talking to, threats and if need be, we can place an embargo, tariffs, sanctions, etc through the International Union of Nations (IUN) (This worlds' equivalent of the United Nations) and such."

Usea's stance: "No, no. No empty threats, they'll see right through it and perhaps call our bluff. We have to hit them hard and fast economically. Of course, I don't want to see this turn into a war, but the military option needs to be on the table."

Erusea: King Shilage is not present, but his top advisor is.

"I say we covertly fund a rebellion uprising. Make it so it can't trace back to us."

Olympus: A tall stately woman in Ancient Greek priestess clothing approached the center of the room. She is the Pythia, high priestess of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi, and is the Oracle of Delphi, which makes her the most important woman in Olympus.

"When seas churn, the dream shared will unleash suffering and the birth of new evil. As tenebrous morning, the return of the hollow ones shall sow temptation and activate the return of the resistance. Upon secret guild, a surrender shall bring a time which is the fall of the false god and history will be rewritten."

She then sat back down and a murmur broke out among the gathered before the head of the Olympian Senate rose, clearing his throat. Everyone quieted down.

"Let it be known that the Senate has voted 64 to 36 for a military response." He then turned to King Dyeus who was seated in the high throne in the front of the room.

"The King approves," Dyeus spoke. "I do believe a combination of all suggestions would be prudent as well as an examination of this prophecy by The Pythia."

And with that, the council was dismissed. A top-secret report would be written up and sent to El Grenitadian.

People's Leader Melia Thoris is slumped against her desk with her head down as her assistant enters.
"Er, Madame? The transcripts you asked for from today's meetings?"
She rises quickly, trying not to let her despair show. "Thank you Jonah. Can I ask what you think of our financial crisis?"
"I'm really not qualified to say. I suppose I'm in favor of your decisions of course. You're protecting the people and their welfare, and if there's not enough money for everything, that seems the most important."
"Thank you. That'll be all."

He leaves and she stares at the transcripts with the words swimming through her head. Economic collapse. The people are safe, our country is not. Her advisors seem disappointed, and they should be, she thinks. Though the Temian welfare programs are flourishing and their envirionment strong, they don't have the military force to back El Grenitadia, much as she would like to. Pushing aside economic concerns, she write a letter to the El Grenitadian president.

Temian will support your efforts in whatever way we can, but with our own economic concerns and limited military, I fear there is little we can do offer besides our words. I highly respect this initiative and regret that there is not more we can do. Do not hesitate to write if your soldiers need food or shelter, as we can provide both.

President Sofía Halilović looked at the classified report smuggled in via the subsidized black market. It was on the meeting between the heads of the ISAF. She had been waiting for it in order to formulate her opinion on what to do with the Grenitadian proposal, but it just provided more questions than answers. Of course, she didn't put much stock in the words of crackpot prophets, but this was still interesting. And she didn't understand what it meant. Well, let me rephrase. She understood exactly what it meant, but didn't understand at all what it meant. As in, she understood basically that the hope of ending this fascist threat would spring forth some new evil, greater than any faced before, and that from it would come some Orwellian times. All of a sudden, her friend and confidant, Benedict, entered.
"Wassup!?" he said, extremely loudly. Sofía just looked at him and shook her head.
"I'm trying to figure out what this damned prophecy means. Can you help?" she responded. Benedict looked over the writing, which on the report, just had a bunch of question marks scribbled all over it.
"Well, it seems to me," he started, "that it's saying that the hope of ending this fascist threat would spring forth some new evil, greater than any faced before, and that from it would come some Orwellian times." Sofía looked up at him and scowled.
"Yeah, I got that. But what does that mean? Like, in the context of the scenario?" For just a second, Benedict's face darkened, and Sofía could've sworn she said something wrong. But then, he was back to his bright, cheery self.
"Idk," he said, spelling out the letters i, d, and k, before saying ihdkə, like it was a spelling bee. "My advice, though? Don't put too much at stake on the words of crazy old women in stupid bedsheets. And get back to running the country. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go talk to a friend." Sofía looked up, hopefully. She always enjoyed a chance to hone her conversational skills.
"About what?"
"Oh, nothing, just a... privacy policy, of sorts." Sofía sat back down. That sounded boring.
"Alright, then, goodbye!" Benedict exited the room.

Sofía sat back in her chair. At least now, she knew what to do about the Grenitadian proposition. She picked up a quill and penned a letter.

"For President Jack Hertworth,
We have also noticed the threat of the Ukrainian fascist menace. For our safety, the safety of the common people everywhere, and in hopes of a further globalized society, we accept your invitation to join the Freedom Pact. Down with these Greyshirt terrorists!

Meanwhile, eleven figures are gathered in a shadowy room, all in thrones representing those they represented. One chair of twelve is empty. A woman spoke first, sitting in a chair depicting arrows, the sun, and a lyre.
"I don't get why we can't just make our move now! We'll get rid of the Greyshirts afterwards." A few others nodded in agreement. Then, a man, in a chair depicting owls and a strategos' helmet, leaned forward.
"We have to wait. It's the only reasonable option, until we're prepared." After this, ten of the figures started arguing over which was the better course of action. The man at the head of the table with the empty chair held his hand up, and the room fell silent.
"We will wait," he said, "until the time is right. The only one who suspects anything is that Dmitri chap, and he's just naturally suspicious. I don't actually think he knows anything." The room all fell into agreement, because whoever this man was, he had the power to make a room of some of the most powerful people agree with him. And, as such, it was decided. They, whoever they were, would wait.

Kriska has officially condemned the state of Velyka-Ukrayina for violations of human rights and the manslaughter of civilians. Starting from the 8th of January, the Confederacy will impose trade embargo's upon Ukrayina in retaliation for the heinous acts it's committed. These embargo's will remain in place until greater respect for human rights are displayed and the nation allows more freedom of speech.

In other news, in an effort to improve relations with the neighbouring country of Zogta, a proposal has been sent to their government detailing plans for a joint construction project for a megadam that would provide huge amounts of hyrdo-electric power for both nations. It would be built in the central river on the border between the two countries. However, if this project was to be approved by the Zogtan government, then the Kriskan government would have to deal potential backlash from the western nation of Phoeica due to their exclusion...

In her office in Xivunocni, Prime Minister Corryn Qozyo opened the envelope sent by Jack Hertworth.
She sighed. Corryn was personally for the idea, but she knew her Party would be opposed to it. The Unionist Party's neutrality policy sometimes annoyed her.
Not that her opinions mattered, of course. Within a few days, she would be out of office. The Unionists had no chance of winning the election.
El Grenitadia's proposal had to wait.

Communist Party supporters clashed with the police today while protesting.
The protests were peaceful until they reached the City Hall, where police tried to stop them from entering it.
Despite its claims on "trying to stop a traffic", many Communists remain skeptical.
Armed Communist protesters shot one policemen, which caused police to take an offensive position.
Rocks, bullets, and fire bolts were thrown against the police, while the police responded with bullets and minor magic.
7 were heavily injured, and 20 were lightly injure.

Although Carric Amanodeldenied any intervention of their party, Nationalists criticized the Communist Party for being "too violent".

Though I acknowledge that my administration has wholly different ideas on what to do against anti-government activity in our country than nearly every other nation in existence on this world, I offer up a compromise. I have readied four large civilian transport ships in the city of Kherson's port, along with a list of many anti-government dissidents that my intelligence services have obtained for me. If you allow so, all listed dissidents that my agents can access will be rounded up with as little violence as possible and sent to one of your ports for you to deal with them as you see fit. My administration would rather avoid an all-out conflict, if it is possible.

"Could you please see that this, in one way or another, is delivered to wherever the government offices in the People's New Union are located?", the Prime Minister responded.
