The Republic of India's first peacekeeping elements (a brigade-size signals and logistics unit of the Rajasthan Military District, alongside three battalions of BJP Hindutva paramilitaries) begin preparations to deploy to the Katanga region, while other units (namely the 3rd Poona Lancers, and the 3rd Gurkha) are routed to airbases throughout the continent to finish final training and potential briefings before their deployment to the Congo. The Indian foreign ministry attempts to pressure its counterparts in Tanzania, Kenya, and Zambia to permit its forces to transit through their nations en route to their areas of responsibility in the DRC. As the tip of the metaphorical spear, 5 companies of Deccan Rangers and a wing of old Il-76 transports set up shop at Lubumbashi Airport, alongside a battery of Nepali artillery.

The first few detachments of soldiers and armored vehicles from South Acren arrive, numbering in 3000 infantry, 100 Strumtruppen, 5 tanks, and 15 APCS. They immediately set up their camp, expecting more troops by the week. While this is going on, the Sturmtruppen fill the roles of MPs, Police, and Guards, watching the allied compounds. Soon the infantry begin patrolling zones of conflict and unrest.

Statement from the Eternal Aeisonian Federation

Greetings world nations,

Aeisonia is alarmed and shocked at the lack of development, progress, and general wellbeing of the citizens of the Congo.

As such, with assistance from ACOA-I, we are sending peacekeeping forces to pacify and protect the people of the Congo, and then further aiding the leaders of the Congo with direct Aeisonian government intervention, to prevent the reversal of progress. It is imperative to do so, as the Congo holds valuable resources that would simply be wasted without Aeisonia. In addition to providing the Congo with tools to maintain and control its populace, we will also be taking a cut of all raw materials collected from Congolese mines.

Any NGO forces within the area described on the map below will be escorted out of the area and/or executed for ignoring national boundries.

Thank you all. Hail Aeisonia

Aeisonian troops begin to arrive by air, as supply aircraft drop aid to the Congolese people to lull them into a false sense of security. Slowly, camps are built up around the Aeisonian exclusion area, as securing the mines slowly creeps to the top of the Aeisonian to-do list.

Congo-Port of Matadi
A veritable flood of ships crowded out the port. Many nations and peoples were here-but two stood out among them all-the Low German dialect spoken solely in Prussia, and Polish.
Numerous landing craft unloaded masses of men and armored vehicles onto dry land, while aircraft thundered overhead-mainly the F-35 VTOL/STOVL fighters assigned to the carriers of the Commonwealth, escorting transport aircraft as they headed inland with men and material-most going for Bandundu Airport. Further inland, near existing airports, new airbases were bulldozed and quickly staffed. Within a day or two, they began flying patrols and missions-with, if possible, the help of their Congolese counterparts.

The units of the Commonwealth, offically, were around 15000 combat troops, if one disregarded logistical personnel, pilots, and the like.
Why all this heavy weaponry?
Simple.
The Abwehr had it on good intelligence that a foreseeable worse-case scenario could and would break out. The recent exclusion zone set up by Aeisonia was proof of that. Rumors abounded, too, of other things-of a vast force preparing to invade the Congo. Of new colonists, seeking to carve up Africa once more.
But not on the Commonwealth's watch. The UN might be paralysed, but if anyone tried to make a move-they would have a bunch of very, very, angry Slavs and Germans to deal with.

Inland-1st Guards Hussars

Image

A long line of MRAPs sped along a gravel track as they entered the city of Kisangani. Almost immediately, they began setting up checkpoints leading into the 'exclusion zone'.
Kisangani was a major transportation hub for the Congo-it met at the intersection of a waterway and several highways, including numerous leading into the self-declared 'exclusion zone'.

Other branching-points-the railway junction of Kamina, the hub of Mbuji-Mayi, the cities of Buta and Kolwezi-were, or soon would be, occupied by elements of the Prussian-Polish task force-usually the size of a company. This would complete the road and rail isolation of the 'exclusion zone'. Combined with the massive international presence at the ports, this would shut down traffic in and out of the exclusion zone, preventing them from shipping out the valuable resources that were extracted from the mines.

Angel Group Headquarters-Manono
One of the larger NGOs was an NGO by the name of 'Angel Group'.
Angel Group was, in short, a collaborative effort by three organizations-Razgriz Security, Galm International, and the IDAP.
In total, their personnel came to about 260 well-trained, well-armed mercenaries, and 180 humanitarian personnel.

The news of the Exclusion Zone shocked gun-for-hire and humanitarian alike. In a crisis meeting, the 10-odd 'leaders' of the group convened and discussed their options.

While the meeting went on, though, the humanitarians continued to work-establishing clean water, training teachers or teaching students, providing medical care, rebuilding roads and rewiring electricity-as they had for the past few years.

Official note of Diplomatic Protest
Commonwealth of the Kingdoms of Prussia and Poland

The recent deployment of Aeisonian troops without permission or a formal request for assistance from the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, combined with demands of cuts from the mines, is a matter of great concern-even before we speak of the eviction of humanitarian NGOs, as well as reports of execution of non-compliant NGOs. This is a violation of Congo's territorial and national sovereignty-the aforementioned NGOs, and the UN peacekeeping troops, have been invited by the current government of the DRC-your troops have not. We request that you withdraw immediately, or to subordinate your forces to MONUSCO(Mission de l'Organisation des Nations unies pour la stabilisation en République démocratique du Congo).
Until this is done, regrettably, the Commonwealth Joint Task Force-Congo will, in conjunction with other peacekeepers, be sealing off all road traffic and turning back all vehicles found with ore coming from the so-called 'exclusion zone'. In addition, all riverine transports from the exclusion zone will be inspected as well.

SITREP:
-Guards Cuirassiers, Guards Grenadiers arriving.
-1st Guards Hussars deploying to numerous cities
-Luftwaffe takes up residence in airbases.
-Angel Group leadership convenes to discuss options, but continues operations while it does.
-Prussia-Poland requests Aeisonia withdraw, or subordinate troops to the wider UN mission.
-Traffic in and out of the Exclusion zone now has to pass through Prussian-Polish military checkpoints.

Lubumbashi, DRC

"We're not fucking complying. If they think they can shag off this entire op for their own gain then we'll let our guns do the talking"

A redheaded Sarah Call, dressed in chocolate-chip desert camo bearing the Hellfighter Private Security logo and toting an Exodian RFSMG, remarked aloud to her graying, hard hat-wearing civilian client, Donald Rose. Behind them, a group of PMC bodyguards, armed with similar automatic weapons and dressed in the same fatigues, body armor, and their signature ballistic masks, as well as a crowd of civilian mining contractors and workers. A majority of the latter Congolese citizens recently given a new lease on life and a fair-handed employer for a change, it would be nearly a cause for revolt if the Lindell Company was removed from the region.

"What if the Aesonians make a move? You're just a PMC, as well-armed as you may be." The older gentleman asked, clutching a clipboard as they walked into a makeshift auditorium, made from a pavilion near the mining company's base of operations. Many guards and miners were already waiting for these new developments.

"We'll Magnificent Seven it. We've had heavy weapons on site since we were here, and I doubt they'll be able to enforce such a wide exclusion zone. As for you, Mr. Rose, don't let any of your supply vehicles leave this town. The last thing we want is a risk to your men- but any other activities are free to carry on." The young woman said curtly yet confidently. A thirty-year-old veteran of the Exodian Army Amphibious, she had not come to HPS for a job but rather the company had sought out her.

On the outskirts of the town, a defensive perimeter with several checkpoints had already been established, from water-filled trenches, makeshift rock walls, and junked vehicles and industrial equipment to barbed wire, landmines and emplaced mortars and heavy machine guns, as signs in English and French were put up in the areas just before it. While the 170 Hellfighter personnel, consisting of armed grunts, engineering specialists, and medical helpers alike were spread thin, at the very least their materiel wouldn't be. The execs had given them quite much to work with, considering it was a border town and a particularly valuable one to any possible rabble-rouser in the region.

As they all toiled- foreign mercenary, local prospector, and imported civvy, a few would raise their heads, leading to a cheer.
The cheer spread to the rest of the town, where humanitarian volunteer and resident Congolese shielded their eyes from the sun to catch a glimpse.
Bell AH-1Z Vipers and 2 UH-1Y Venom helicopters, all from a bygone era yet well-armed enough to level the city- or possibly defend it, buzzed overheads, while a line of 4 AMT-44 Snakehead amphibious light tanks and 7 Hellhound I armored cars, some equipped with automatic cannons and some with magnetically-assisted main guns, rumbled by on the road that was just about to close.
All bore the same logo of the new soldier boys in town.

"Quite a show." Ross couldn't help cracking a smile as many in the crowd did, before his expression turned dark. "I pray we won't have to use them."

Inga Dams, Congo River

A similar scene would occur here, albeit with 7 Hueys and 1 Viper, searching for an adequate spot to land while Hellfighter's light armor (5 light tanks and 14 armored cars) was being distributed to the location and the city around CAD headquarters 57 kilometers away. Despite being far outside of the Aesonian Exclusion Zone, the dams were very much in danger. Continuing construction of the Grand Inga, now led by Exodian company and CAD affiliate Exeter and Co. would provide electricity and dramatically increase power outputs not only to the Congo but to surrounding African nations- and become a valuable strategic area for any invading force. Defensive emplacements and heavy weapons would be set up at the ends of the dam site, as well as on the structures themselves.

Supplies and arms were rapidly ferried between the construction and power site and the nearby border city and crucial seaport of Matadi- where similar defensive emplacements were being formed and local law enforcement rallied with the mercenaries. Being the headquarters of the Coalition for Aid and Development, encompassing Dove Mercy's modernization of hospitals and the Green Fields Foundation's work with nearby farms as well, the prospect of losing it all to a foreign warmonger would be too much.

Mobile High Command Center

Major-General Cromwell steps into the meeting room, as his four guards close and man the door behind him. He is worried and annoyed at the new Polish-Prussian demands. The border checkpoints were certainly a problem, as the resources had to move somehow. He considered using his supply fleet of aircraft, but ultimately decided it was too small to transport the volume of resources he needed to mine. This meeting was to help him decide.

Cromwell: Hello all. I trust you've been at work devising a solution to our issue?

A peppy colonel chimed in

Colonel: Sir! I've drafted some counter-demands to give the Polish-Prussians!

Cromwell stared

Cromwell: Are you suggesting that we give in?

Colonel: Well sir, we are a bit boxed in bu-

A brigadier pipes up from the corner

Brig: What if we threatened to expand the borders of the exclusion zone?

Cromwell: Excuse me? Who are you?

Brig: Name is Brigadier Moffat, sir. I heavily advise against giving in to the UN. We have enough troops in the exclusion zone to expand the borders by 5 miles. If the Polish-Prussians don’t remove their border checkpoints, we just simply keep expanding out. They must give in eventually.

The General pondered the thought for a minute, before picking up a phone on the wall.

Cromwell: Call the Polish-Prussian ambassador. Tell them to remove the border checkpoints, or we expand the “assistance” zone...

Prussia-Poland and Aeisonia had no diplomatic relations whatsoever.
The message, after several hour's backlog, ended up being read by an automated reply bot, which immediately responded with a preset response.
Reichswehr to the Major-General!

O MG, devil and damned devil's kith and kin, secretary to Lucifer himself. What the devil kind of knight are thou, that canst not slay a hedgehog with your naked arse? The devil shits, and your army eats. Thou shalt not, thou son of a whore, dictate terms to Christian sons; we have no fear of your army, by land and by sea we will battle with thee, fuck thy mother.

Thou scullion, whore, brewer of Warsaw, goat-fucker of Alexandria, swineherd of Greater Poland, pig of Armenia, Podolian thief, catamite of Tartary, hangman of Kamyanets, and fool of all the world and underworld, an idiot before God, grandson of the Serpent, and the crick in our dick. Pig's snout, mare's arse, slaughterhouse cur, unchristened brow, screw thine own mother!

So the Reichswehr declares, you lowlife. You won't even be herding pigs for us. Now we'll conclude, for we don't know the date and don't own a calendar; the moon's in the sky, the year with the Lord, the day's the same over here as it is over there; for this kiss our arse!
Signed: Ministry of Defense Automated Reply Bot

On the same day, a second message went out.
Official Guarentee of the Commonwealth of the Kingdoms of Prussia and Poland as to the Sovereignty of the Democratic Republic of the Congo

In light of recent aggressive actions taken by certain nations, the Commonwealth of the Kingdoms of Prussia and Poland now declares the national and territorial sovereignty of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to be absolute and inviolable. As such, any further hostile actions against the people and government of the Democratic Republic will be construed as an act of war against the Commonwealth, and the Commonwealth shall respond with all and any appropriate countermeasures, up to and including the usage of nuclear weaponry.

|☵|South Atlantic Ocean|☵|
|Congo River estuary|

The assembled vessels of Task Element Ganymede surfaced one by one as they approached the Congolese coast. There hadn't been a whole lot of kerfuffle raised with regards to Jupiter's deployment, on the whole - the order had been given almost immediately post-declaration of the west-African crisis, and while the usual communiques had certainly been dispatched, there was doubt with regards to whether many of them had actually been paid much heed. The Bureaucracy ran its usual spiel of peacekeeping nigh-continuously, so a minor deployment or two wasn't going to raise any eyebrows - though what exactly constituted for "minor" might have perhaps been perceived differently by anyone outside the Yeglan scope of thinking. Regardless, as the six ships of the convoy formation neared, they sent out a cautionary hail - preliminary recon had picked up several PPC naval assets in the general vicinity, and it wouldn't do well to upset one's potential coworkers so quickly.

To all neutral forces currently moving through and/or monitoring the Congo River

This is an official declaration from Task Element Ganymede of the UYDF Expeditionary Forces. We will be making landfall at Matadi in order to deploy peacekeeping elements into Congolese territory, in accordance with standard IntSec operational proceedings. Any attempt to impede the deployment of peacekeeping elements will be treated as directly inimical to the UYDF's foreign interaction directive, and responded to accordingly. If any international peacekeeping elements desire to establish contact with this task element, or any other UYDF asset operating within this area, comms channels will remain open for queries.

That is all.

With that, the fleet formation went on its merry way - Matadi awaited.

|☵|South Atlantic Ocean|☵|
|Approx. 20 NM off the coast of Tristan da Cunha|

EF Coordinator Jágr frowned at his monitor. In the dim lighting of the YEV Kupala's bridge, his face was cast into even deeper shadow, further accentuating the expression. The Aeisonian declaration of intent continued to scroll past his eyes, even as a comms officer turned to him with a further proclamation.

"Sir, we've got another intercepted communique. It looks like their answer to the UN's demands is to threaten further expansion of their... "assistance" zone."

"Excuse me? You didn't misinterpret it, by chance?"

"No sir. They've made their intent quite clear."

"What in the Vozhd's name are we dealing with here? A command room full of literal clowns?"

"Couldn't say, sir."

"Forward it up the chain. I want Chernograd to be aware of this within the hour."

"I suspect they already are, sir. Still, forwarding as we speak."

"Good. Plot a coast-bypass course. And direct the Lance formation inland. If these morons actually try to pull a direct invasion, I want any five of their leading columns to be a theoretical hair's breadth away from being a smoking crater."

"Could probably do better than just five, sir."

"Get it done then."

Soon enough, ASCHLN signal traffic from the stealth vessel had practically tripled. Its detection profile wouldn't suffer by any measurable degree - if anyone with the capability and methodology to intercept an ASCLN uplink had been in this hemisphere, the coordinator node would have been made aware of it by now. As it stood, bands of sub-frequency pseudo-radiation sped their way to distant (and perhaps not-so-distant) corners of the world before the final phrase had even left Jágr's lips.

The world didn't have to wait long. The bureaucratic apparatus of UYDF Central Command, and the Ministry Council at large, worked with blinding speed when considering its nigh-ridiculous size. Less than an hour post-reception, a brand new communique would make its wireless way out of the CGC's halls.

Image

On behalf of the UYP's Ministry of Foreign Relations
With legislative backing provided by the Ministries of War, Finance and the Interior
The following is to be considered an official diplomatic statement, as per the Hirshivka Accords

To the Aeisonian government,

The Ministry Council of the Federal Bureaucracy of Yegla Islands hereby forwards a request to the Aeisonian government structure and any relevant military branches to halt its effective lockdown of what has previously been referred to as the Congolese "assistance zone". Furthermore, the Bureaucracy requests for:
  • Safe passage through the assistance zone to be provided for NGO operatives and equipment
  • All Aeisonian forces not strictly necessary for the UN-backed maintenance of peace within the region to be withdrawn immediately
  • The Aeisonian government to effect compliance with any other UN-mandated requests regarding operations in the Congo
  • All Aeisonian naval assets within combative distance of the Congolese coasts to be withdrawn immediately
Non-compliance with these directives will be noted as a violation of international neutrality conventions, and acted upon accordingly. Interference with the operations of the UYDF Task Force Jupiter, and any other pertinent UYDF assets within the Congo, will be treated as an immediate act of war. Further communiques may follow.

Yours faithfully,

Annabelle Von Liebowitz,
Minister of Foreign Relations

The ALRMP-01 was not a small craft. Nor was it a particularly slow craft. And yet, as the squadron of five Lance-pattern gunships of Task Element Amalthea cruised above the Congo at barely subsonic speeds, their detection remained unlikely. They were too high up, for one thing. Not quite high enough to be termed spaceplanes - and so, "extreme-altitude UCAVs" they remained. Their polyhedral composite construction certainly helped matters along, as did their rather unique method of propulsion - for something seemingly powered by turbofans, there wasn't much in the way of a heat signature one could extract from a Lance. And so it was that the quintet moved ever further inland. Their orders had been received. Their weapons taken off standby. Targets would present themselves, in time - in the end, they always did.

"It seems that the world has no shortage of idiots."

The words echoed through the ebon-tiled chamber. The acoustics in here were excellent - perhaps a measure to discourage the more hands-on sort of assassin, or perhaps merely done as an aesthetic measure. With the Vozhd, it was hard to tell. He reclined in his usual spot behind his desk, ever-wreathed in that cloying cloud of black smoke. On the other side of the ebonwood rectangle stood a youth in a colorful, if scruffy, dress shirt - the accompanying tie hung loosely, barely even fastened. Golden-blond hair contrasted sharply with the blacks and silvers of the room. His face bore a faint smile as he nodded in affirmation.

"Too true. I've already been briefed on the Congo thing. Is that why you wanted me?"

"Indeed. There will be... backlash. Jupiter was not enough."

"Oh, I'm sure the Council will send out reinforcements as soon as they have time to gather."

"They will. And the force will be large, and it will most certainly be slow. Most of all, it will be inflexible."

"Ah. Then I think I know what it is you want from me."

"I will provide a proper briefing."

"Naturally. But I think I get the gist. Is travel pre-booked?"

"A grouping of Yastrebs was refitted a few days ago. The airstrip should be cleared as we speak."

"Ooooh! Is this the HL thing? I think I might have glanced over a few announcement snippets."

"You are correct. I apologize for having to send you off so abruptly - and I am sorrier still for not bidding your men a personal farewell. But alas, I've taken on quite a bit in recent days."

"Oh I can imagine. I don't envy you the duty to handle international crises. Hell, you took the mantle from Gena."

"No, his is still seated resolutely on his shoulders. The cantankerous old bastard."

"Speak for yourself."

"Heh."

The Vozhd stood, dispersing the smoke somewhat. Gunmetal-grey hair seemed to move not a milimeter as he strode around the desk, and took the youth's hand in his. They shared a handshake and one-armed hug, before standing apart once more.

"Farewell."

"I'll send you a postcard. Oh, and tell Xenia not to mess around with Wing logistics again - finding my post last time was a nightmare."

"I'll be sure to let her know."

There was a soft click as the door shut behind the blond youth, and a muffled creak as the Vozhd retook his seat. A moment later, he returned to typing.

"What is it, Williams?"
"Yeglan ships!"
Zulinski was far from a young man. The old sea-dog had been a young naval infantryman at the Storming of Gdansk, and now he was here-well past his prime, physically, but mentally, as sharp as he ever was. But in all his life, the famed Yeglans...never had he seen them. Whispers abounded of them and their technological prowess, and many a man feared facing them one day. But...seeing them?
"What are they doing here?" He asked, after a long pause.
"Transmission recieved from them. They're on our side."

A collective sigh of relief, and a fair bit of cheering, could be heard from the whole bridge.

Lusaka
Technate Zambian Territories

The city of Lusaka had been a shining jewel in the southern heartland of Africa even before the Technate had arrived, one of the fastest developing in the southern region of the continent. Now, it's skyline was dominated by vast constructs of steel and glass, the offices of the new regional governor and local administration. Zambia had accepted entry into the Technate without much protest, having seen full well what they were willing to do to those who refused their offer of human unity and progress. The benefits were themselves readily evident, the country had borne witness to a rapid increase in standard of living, life expectancy and general prosperity, along with the rapid elimination of the festering AIDS epidemic that had plagued the country for decades. And yet, despite this prosperity, an advancement mirrored in the other territories of the Technate both in Africa and across the globe, much of the continent remained tormented by war, disease and general unpleasantness.

This had long been clear in the case of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, whom had been afflicted by great misfortune from the very moment they secured independence from the ravenous Belgians. The country had been thrown into crisis after crisis throughout its eighty-year history, and its people had never been granted the opportunity to build a better world for their children. And now, it once again found itself the site of great conflict, as foreign empires squabbled and tore at its borders. The Technate had seen enough. The DRC had suffered enough. It was long past time that something should be done, and the Technate was determined that a brighter future for the Congolese would begin now.

To all involved parties in the Democratic Republic of the Congo,

It has come to our attention that the region of the Congo has drawn the involvement of numerous foreign powers, threatening the stability and security of the area just north of our borders. The Technate is firmly opposed to neo-colonial and imperialist exploitation of the region at the hands of foreign powers and other entities that do not represent the interests of the Congolese people, and as such requests the withdrawal of these powers from the region within the next forty-eight hours. Of particular concern is the activity of the Federation of Aeisonia, who appear to be attempting to seize control of the eastern regions of the country. We call on the Aeisonian government to immediately renounce the creation of this Exclusion Zone and begin withdrawing their military and civilian personnel from the area. Failure to comply may result in direct intervention so as to secure the safety and prosperity of the Congolese people from the predations of the Federation and all other vultures that may seek to exploit them for their own ends.

Sincerely, Governor Chifuniro of the Technate Zambian Territories

Statement from the Eternal Aeisonian Federation

Greetings world nations,

Aeisonia has become worried at the amount of nations threatening the prosperity of the Congolese under Aeisonian rule.

However, due to the volume of concerns with our techniques, Aeisonia has no choice but to negotiate the size of the exclusion zone.
The map below shows the areas of the Assistance Zone that we request to be left untouched. Note: We will not be withdrawing troops or naval vessels from near the area, and we expect that border checkpoints and practices that endanger the lives of innocent Congolese.

Thank you all. Hail Aeisonia

South Acren Zone of Assistance | Hereford Air force Base | 10am
He didn't want to be here. Hell, no-one did, but definitely not him. Guard duty was as boring as watching grass grow. The Sturmtruppen, taking the role of MP, sat in a guard shack, at the gate of the air base. Planes of vehicles, troops, and equipment arrived so often, if one just looked without knowing they would suspect a German invasion. It wasn't, thankfully. It was some political bullshit that forced them to come help "Keep the peace". The MP just laughed at the idea. It was a waste. He turned his head and watched another cargo plane touch down. It seemed ridiculous to use this many troops and armaments just to prevent these people from killing each-other. Not like it effected the Vaterland. But whatever. He sighed, keeping his thoughts to himself. As he looked up, a man walked towards his guard shack, holding what looked like a large stick. As he grew closer, the Guard realized it was a rifle, crude and in poor position, but still a weapon. He grabbed his Assault Rifle and walked outside, gun raised. He issued a warning, first in German, then in English. "Halt! Nähern Sie sich nicht weiter! Stop! Do not go any further!" the man seemed confused so the guard raised his rifle and fired a shot into the air. The man got spooked and ran off. The guard muttered an insult and walked back to his building. As he did an Armored Convoy left the base, 5 tanks, 30 Cargo, and 15 AFVs. He raised his hand as they passed, then went back to his book.

"Sir, they've modified their demands!"

Jágr stopped pacing, slowly making his way back to his command chair at the center of the bridge. Sitting down heavily, he addressed the comms officer once more.

"Have they now? Are they asking for colonies on the moon as well?"

"As a matter of fact, they've retracted some of their previous attemtps at control establishment. They seem to have cut down the zone considerably, though they refuse to withdraw troops or watercraft."

"So a formality, then. Nothing more."

"So it would seem."

He sighed. It seemed as though they weren't exactly cowering before the UYDF's time-tested might. Drove one to wonder, really - was there an actual point to building up international reputation? Regardless, it looked like he'd have to do something.

"They've still got a carrier group floating around, haven't they?"

"A few hundred miles off the coast, yes. Maintaining a fairly steady heading, from the readings we've been receiving."

"Notify the Borewits. I want a strike on standby - no more than ten minutes from setup to impact."

"Yessir."

As the bridge went back to its usual bustle, Jágr pinched the bridge of his nose. This was going to be a long day.

Two darkened shapes slid through the depths of the Atlantic. To an observer, they would have resembled typical Yeglan watercraft in practically all aspects - even within the UYDF, it would take a special kind of seaman to distinguish the Borewit from any other vessel. Until it did that one, very specialized thing the Borewit was designed to do - at that point, it would be fairly difficult to miss. But for now, the two cigar-shaped craft glided near-silently through the murk. They didn't exactly inch closer to the Aeisonian carrier, but they made sure to keep themselves at a de-facto set distance from it. Quite a ways outside sonar range, but still close enough to effect rapid deployment in the event of any unprecedented circumstances.

It seemed as though the entirety of Task Element Amalthea had been geared to anticipate Aeisonian hostilities. Whether or not this would have any bearing on the conflict to come remained to be seen.

|Matadi Tshimpi Airport|

The Yastreb had taken a while to clear traffic control - thankfully, all matters related to its entry into the Congo had been handled by external assets while it was in-flight. So it was that there was very little delay as the elegant, delta-wing craft dropped out of supersonic cruise, and glided down to the waiting landing strip. Before long, its gear found the runway, and the pride of the Bureaucracy's "civilian" air transport industry slid slowly to a halt. From there, things proceeded smoothly and with minimal fuss - no sooner had the plane been taxied over to a waiting ramp, than its pressurized doors were already being unsealed, and a lengthy procession of men was being ushered out from within. At their head strode that same, blond-haired youth, now clad in a roughly-buttoned salmon dress shirt under a faded denim jacket. A chequered handkerchief hung out of a breast pocket, wavering gently in the wind. Behind him walked men and women clad primarily in grey fatigues - anyone familiar with UYDF conventions would no doubt recognize Dolya under-armor when they saw it. And they would no doubt take note of the tiny, black and pink patch worn by each and every member of the procession - a rifle and cutlass, crossed under a stylized eye. Its pupil, a tiny heart.

As part of the procession split off to assist with the unloading of grey polymer crates from their plane's cargo section, their apparent leader walked over to a rather portly man waiting on the tarmac.

Dressed in full officer's garb despite the heat, Podpułkownik Pietrosław Antośkiewicz cast a cautious glance at the approaching youth. He didn't look like a soldier... and yet soldiers are what he had been told to expect, and this certainly appeared to be the man heading them. The Lieutenant-Colonel pulled off an uncertain salute, even as his conversation-partner-to-be waved it away with a nonchalant gesture. He spoke with apparently genuine mirth to his tone, and a warm smile to his expression.

"At ease, sir. You've certainly no cause to salute to me. If anything, it should be the other way around."

"Nikita Dyatlov, I presume?"

"Yep. AAC Stormguard Commander, Heart Company, at your service. Quite literally, as a matter of fact. My men and I are de-facto under your command."

Antośkiewicz seemed unsure as to how he should process this.

"Excuse me? I thought I was just here to greet you, and to provide aid in finding transport?"

"Ah, yes, sorry about that. Change of plans. CentCom should give your superiors the run-down shortly - technically, they should be doing it as we speak. In any case, yes, we are short on transport - so if you've got space in whatever it is you're making use of, we'll attach ourselves to your unit for the time being. We're cleared to provide assistance with any peacekeeping-related matters you may need, and are technically subordinated to your command authority in this matter. We'll probably split off at a later date, once some of our... ah, auxiliary equipment arrives. But for now, we go wherever you need us to. I'm sure this is the start of a wonderful partnership!"

He beamed at the still-bemused Podpułkownik, before turning back to his men.

"Hear that, ladies and gentlemen? We're de-facto Polish troops now. When in the Congo... do as the Poles do? I suppose?"

A round of picture-perfect salutes was all he received in answer. He addressed Antośkiewicz once more.

"So then. We're done unloading. Lead the way!"

And they were off down the tarmac, even as the Yastreb re-sealed its doors. It wouldn't idle here long - already, it was preparing for the return trip.
