After months of intense and violent discussions, they founded an organization dedicated to overthrow the current government and radically change the current political, economical, social and cultural system in place in the country. The Unified Command of Anti-Fascist Militias (UCAFM) was born.
During three months, the main efforts of our organization and our militants was concentrated around the construction of a powerful military apparatus capable to confront, both militarily and politically, the federal government and the armed forces of the United States of Lusatinia. It is still too early to be able to say whether victory is within reach. On the other hand, the objective that the UCAFM set for its foundation has been achieved. The military apparatus exists, even if its to early to tell if it is an effective tool. Only the test of combat will tell us if it is the case.
To avoid any surprise, to continue to build on this momentum, to honor the incredible support that our organization gathered during this three month, we decided to change the course of our effort from the strict military perspective towards a more political approach to the problems than we could meet after the November 2020 presidential election.
For an organization like ours, refocusing its strategic and political priorities is challenging. Our clandestine structures cannot so easily change their goals overnight.
To be honest, this is not our goal. We believe that we must continue to strengthen the military apparatus at our disposal. But it must be better integrated into the initiatives of the masses as much as it must be based on broad popular support. Because in the end, history has shown us so many times that it is the masses who make history. Only they can decide the victorious outcome or not of the fight that we are about to lead.
The reorientation that we are operating will rely on our political structures more than on our military apparatus. The Shadow Directorate as well as the satellite structures initiated by our organization will be the main tools of this second phase, like the Revolutionary Youth Alliance or the International Red Aid Organization.
Essentially, it is for us to give ourselves the means to neutralize, at all levels, all the political, military, cultural, social or religious means that our enemy is or will be able to put in the way of our market.
In other words, it is a question of preparing for the neutralization of the political forces which could oppose us, whether it is the federal government like other forces and public or private actors. It will also be a question of laying the foundations for contingency plans in the face of the possibility that, despite our efforts, our level of preparation and the determination of our militants, a quick victory would not be possible. Equipment, financial means and human resources must be available to deal with such an eventuality.
Finally, if our organization can be satisfied with its clandestine nature, the goal which is ours only makes such a situation an interlude, a moment in our history. The moment to appear in full view of everyone, including our enemies, is not that far away. Such a transition from shadows to light must not only be anticipated, it must be carefully prepared and planned.

This RP is intended to lead to a civil war RP in a country very similar to the United States of America. For now, it is limited to the preparations of the various protagonists. The conflict will only break out around the time between November 3, 2020 and January 20, 2021 (IRL). The main reason is that we are interested in the process that precedes the confrontation. Many RP about insurrections, uprising, state coup and so on, have a tendency to start when everything break loose. The idea is to keep the question of the conflicting nature of the election open, the electoral division and the antagonisms between the different political sides to facilitate the start then the development of the RP around the following line: How the Left (represented by the Unified Command of the Anti-Fascists Militias) and the right (represented by the Unified Command of Christians and Patriots Militias) will play out if Nationstates people get involved. Other elements or factors may come to extend the narrative framework if necessary as it develops, but everybody know already what is at stake.

While many aspects of this RP can evolve, many others will remain unchanged.
- Politics - First, the setting in which it takes place. Lusatinia has many similarities with the United States of America. A lot. Of course, to facilitate matters, many aspects are deliberately exacerbated. To allow the immediate start of a military conflict between the different actors, who will intervene shortly after the next presidential election between November 3, 2020 and January 20, 2021 (IRL), the political features of each camp are greatly exaggerated. The republicans are openly fascist, the democrats more openly espouse socialist or communist positions. The federal state is just as ineffective and corrupt, but it is a force nobody should underestimate.
The comparison do not ends there. Among the many political parallels between Lusatinia and the United States, their political leadership. President-elect is Ronald Hump is supported by the Republican Party, the Evangelical Right and all that constitutes the Right and the Extreme Right in the political field. It enjoys significant support in many states, particularly in the south and center of Lusatinia. On the other side is Ernie Handers, a soon-to-be unsuccessful primary winner of the Democratic Party, which enjoys the support of the left and the far left. Handers has significant support in many states on the east and west coasts as well as among the young, immigrant and natives sections of the population.
In this sense, the most radical elements are considered to have enough sympathy for their "leader" to push them to support them politically, and especially militarily. Conversely, the moderates are radicalized enough to accept the possibility of a military confrontation in the very near future.
As we said above, a third actor will be the Federal state which represents the moderates, or more precisely the inertia of the state and the economy. Let's face it, not so much people really want a civil war, even when it's really happening. But at the same time, those who oppose any open and violent conflict represent more a conglomerate of undecided people and entities. In this RP, the federal state represent the people who will not chose between the two camps until it is too late or unavoidable. They will hope until the last moment for a return to normality and social peace, to the status-quo. This third force will play a relatively passive role. You cannot really support it directly if you want to get involve.
But it will allow the RP to be adjusted in case there is a too great an imbalance or some unsolvable inconsistency.- Characters - Other major differences should be mentioned. Besides Ronald Hump and Ernie Handers who are inspired by real personalities, and a few other exceptions that seems relevant to us, the other characters that will emerge from this RP are all and should be all fictional characters. Again, the idea is to make it more flexible, to avoid to be stuck in some kind of weird uchrony, which is not exactly what Naionstates is about.
- Geography & Climate - The field on which RP intends to intervene is also notably different. This United States of Lusatinia are geographically approximately ten times bigger than the USA. For example, the distance between Burlington and New York is 10 times greater than in reality. Another major difference is that the country is dominated by a climate similar to that of Northeast and Canada. In other words, there is no significant difference from state to state, as it is in reality the case between Louisiana, Texas and Washington State. In this reality, Las Vegas is surrounded by pine and tree forests just as New Mexico is covered with gigantic forests. The population size is a bit larger, the demographics are a bit different as the natives communities are divided between two groups: 1/the native american in the same framework than in reality; 2/ the Northeast region in this RP is inhabited by a minority of natives of Scandinavian origin, especially dominated by a population of Swedish culture. It represents a mass of approximately 75 million people to which can be added nearly 100 million people more or less linked to these groups of natives all over Lusatinia.
Short presentation of Lusatinia
The United States of Lusatinia (USL), commonly known as the United State or Lusatinia, is a federal republic and a representative democracy comprising 50 states, a federal district, five major self-governing territories, and various possessions. At 38 million square miles (98 million km2), it is a large country, slightly ten times bigger than the entire continent of Europe (IRL). With an estimated population of over 550 million, Lusatinia is a populous country but with a very low density due to its size. The country is originally dominated by two groups of natives. The first one are Paleo-Indians who migrated from the West to the North Lusatinian mainland at least 12,000 years ago, in multiple waves. Lest than 3,500 years ago, some scandians, mostly nanbans, started to arrive from the east and settled in the northeast part of the country. The two groups of populations begin a relative peaceful cohabitation which lasts until the arrival of Western colonization in the 16th century.
The United States emerged from the colonies established along the East Coast by the western settlers. Numerous disputes between their guardianship and the colonies led to the Lusatinia Revolutionary War lasting between 1770 and 1778, leading to independence. The victory in the Independence war was followed by a vigorous expansion across the continent throughout the 19th century. Gradually acquiring new territories, displacing natives, and admitting new states-until by the end of the 1840s it spanned the continent. During the second half of the 19th century, internal tensions trigger the Lusatinian Civil War. The victory of the industrial north led to the abolition of slavery and the first acts of recognition of the rights of natives. The Second Lusatinian Independence War and the first World War confirmed the country's status as a global military power.Timeline
The timeline can be roughly explain as followed. Faced with rising conflicts between the Democratic and Republican camps, supporters of Ernie Handers and radicals are organizing themselves in a clandestine structure in order to prepare for any eventuality, notably a victory for Hump in the presidential election of 2020. The RP start after the foundation of this structure. To avoid an interminable debate on who would choose to get involved in such an approach, we decided that the radical fringes would be the determining element around which the frame of this RP is constituted.
In our scenario, Hump will win the disputed November 2020 election, at least the electoral college. Nothing can change that. Then all hell will get loose. The democratic candidate, by himself or pushed by his circle of advisers and partners, will chooses the confrontation. He will refuse to recognize the victory of his opponent, obtains the rallying of several states of Northeast. Hump will play the bidding, accelerates his takeover, drawing on the evangelical right and the far right, promising in particular the use of militias against the left. Quickly, this will initiate a process of secession.To avoid any IC and OCC controversy, each side will secede. Handers side will form the Democratic Socialist Republic of the Northeast. Hump supporters will announce the foundation of the Confederation of Lusatinia.
But we are not there yet...
The civil war has not yet started. The breaking point, Hump's re-election has not yet happened.
Everything remains at stake. Will the UCAFM achieve its objectives and be ready when the time come ? How will Hump's camp respond, will they be ready too ? Will the project of a few enlightened radicals to found a democratic and socialist republic be realized or lead to the emergence of a bureaucratic and authoritarian state on the model of Soviet Russia ? Will Hump remain the president of an imperfect authoritarian republic or will he take the step towards a more monarchical regime ? Will the civil war be won thanks to the blood of foreign volunteers or because of the dedication of citizens of Lusatinia ?Factions & How to play with them
Concerning the factions, a few aspects and problems need to be address.
The Unified Command of Anti-Fascist Militias must be seen as an actor supposed to rush things, to push the narrative. It is a structure which brings together moderates and radicals, somewhat on the model of the Bolshevik structures at the beginning of the October Revolution in 1917-1918, which mean its divided among a certain number of faction of different size and influence.
Such an approach on our part may appear too complex and, to put it bluntly, a waste of time. But that must be seen as an element of roleplay. More precisely, it is thought as a way to get very different political oriented states involved, not only stalinist/marxist-leninist one, not only state-structured nation. An anarchist leaning nation will try to support the anarchist faction. Feminist or Pro-Women states, like a Martiarchy will do the same with the Feminist faction. And so on.
Why putting in place this faction system ?. As i saw it among some other RP, people tend to be very shy about nuances and antagonisms among their protagonists of a civil war, insurrection or state coup. Everybody is communist, or fascist. I understand why. The don't want or don't have the time and the energy to focus on this kind of details. Everybody do the way they want around here. It's why we love Nationstates. But in reality, from which i take a lot of inspiration, insurrection, civil war or state coup are rich in very different and even opposite trends and approaches, especially among the people who take part in it. I think about the National Front in Algeria, a mixed of nationalists, islamists and socialists militants. I think of the National front in Vietnam, several time purged of its non-marxist-leninist elements by North Vietnam. What about Portugal in 1974, Cuba in the 1950s or even very recently Ukraine ?
I want people involved to set their way of getting involved, including to have something to say about how their involvement will played out. Like a state refusing that it's volunteers could be under another state or the direct UCAFM authority; trotskyst or anarchist volunteers who could refuse to fight under marxist-leninist leadership; black liberation fighters refusing to fight under white officers; a stalinist country trying to influence who get it's tanks.. let your imagination express itself.
Keeping the faction system part of the roleplay is the best way to avoid that the emergence of tensions and divisions within the UCAFM during the roleplay appear totally disconnected from a certain degree of realism. In other words, it is a way to allow some infighting to happen later during the civil war or to favor infighting inside the command structure of the UCAFM before a military conflict even start. Overall, in the long term, the fight to maintain a certain political plurality or not inside the UCAFM will take place. It could lead to brutal political developments, both inside and outside of the committee, depending on which one is the most powerful faction and which one are not. It could also lead to a peaceful transition of power into the hands of one faction or a group of individuals, without real opposition from the others. Along the way, some mergers will happen, especially if some supporting nation give their blessing or put their condition for some shipment of equipment or volunteers. Most importantly, the general political orientation of the future state which will emerge from the following civil war will get influenced by which factions survived the RP.Now the main part, How does it work ?
The center of this roleplay mechanism is the pool of activists and sympathizers. When hostilities start between November 3, 2020 and January 20, 2021, the balance of power between this pool and the number of combatants aligned by the UCAFM will determine whether or not the latter has become a powerful and unified military force or if it is only a large aggregate of militias, without any real political or military coordination.
Activists and sympathizers of the various factions represent the pool from which the UCAFM recruits its combatants. In this sense, the UCAFM must be understood as a unifying force whose objective is to amalgamate the various components which are at its origin in a coherent military and political force capable of confronting and defeating a military and political power similar to that of the United States of America. The different factions support as much as they oppose this dynamic. They understand the importance of forging a military and political tool is a necessity to achieve victory. But they remain divided by strong political antagonisms which are in some cases irreconcilable. By supporting the UCAFM, whether in terms of equipment, money or volunteers, you will intervene in this aspect of the roleplay.
Each contribution enables UCAFM to set up military units which must be trained or equipped. To create these units, the UCAFM draws on the pool of sympathizers and activists at its disposal. All foreign volunteers will be counted as part of the UCAFM military apparatus. Each activist or sympathizer drawn from the pool to be integrated into the military apparatus of the UCAFM retains their political orientation. Simply put, he is no longer directly involved in political quarrels. His political role is "neutralized" since his time is taken up by his new military obligations. It is a way of simulating the process of selection and then incorporation of activists and sympathizers into the military apparatus of the UCAFM, which logically isolates them from the political milieu of which they are from as much as it confronts them and forces them to compose, to develop bonds of camaraderie or friendship with militants and sympathizers having different political orientations. In other words, the necessities of the cause generate unity.
The goal of this RP, which is of course that of the UCAFM, is to reach a balance of power where its military apparatus is numerically greater than the number of militants and sympathizers still present in the pool. In this case, the various factions which remain active within the UCAFM will still be able to raise their own militias but these will be directly integrated into the military apparatus of the unified command.
Otherwise, if the number of combatants of the UCAFM is lower than the total number of militants and sympathizers of the pool, anything can happen, including a breakdown of the unified command. The most directly visible effect will be that the UCAFM will exercise only limited control over the militias. And its important as the fighters of each factions will act very differently. The anarchist will be openly anti-religion and won't hesitate to destroy or confiscate possessions of religious communities. On the other hand, marxist-leninists will try to maintain a certain idea of law and order, pushing for a much needed police apparatus to the point of adopting an antagonist attitude towards other factions. It will also later on impact the fighting. Not only depending on what type of unit they will be against (regular or militias units), but as well as the tactics used. About that, the type of training provided by states which decide to get involve will also matter here.
Finally, the existence of factions inside the UCAFM will make one of the most difficult choice of every political coalition more vivid. Is the UCAFM a tool to unify, to amalgamate or to destroy the plurality of the opposition to Hump.
