Royal Town, Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, Island of Vesvai, Union of Oblaren and Vesvai

When Internal Troop convoys rolled into Royal Town the commanders on the spot gave orders to start searching the city for guerillas. Internal Troops soon met the local police informing them that Internal Troops now had higher jurisdiction in Royal Town than the local police had. Commanders told the police to get in contact with the city authorities to hear it from them that Internal Troops were now the superior here and the police were ordered to help them in guerilla search. After that little exchange the Internal Troops were ordered to split up into groups. Some would go searching for guerillas on the streets in plain sight while others would go into alleyways and remote areas. Internal Troops also thought that Royal Town needed its roads blocked and certain sections of Royal Town shut down so that Internal Troops and the police could work quietly in hunting for guerillas.

The rebels had cleared out from the central parts and more exposed parts of Royal Town where the Union forces were more active. They knew the Internal Troops and local police were coming after them. But the rebels had to move fast. They overheard or personally noticed that the Union forces and police would be brushing through the alleyways knowing that the rebels could use them as a closed off labyrinth-like structure to move though Royal Town undetected. Or hopefully mostly undetected. Since the enemy was coming into the alleyways the rebels had to either move faster or find other closed off place of movement. But at the moment there didn’t seem to be that many options. They had to move fast. Rebels could carry rifles out in the open but they had guns to defend themselves with at least to ensure their own escape and to get the Union Forces off their backs.

Internal Troops told the local police in Royal Town to seal off roads for the time being at least from accessing remote areas. The military’s division was sure if the guerillas were hiding anywhere then it was here. Their first instinct was to check the alleyways in larger groups to avoid the possibility of a lonely ambush against any of them. As usual the Internal Troops were confident that the guerillas were under-resourced while the Union forces had enough heavy weaponry on them. So in case they were able to ambush a guerilla or a couple then it’s not likely the enemy would be a match. There was always a risk of Internal Troops encountering a larger army of guerillas like before. But it wasn’t likely that the alleyways of Royal Town were hiding a guerilla army or several. They physically had to be hidden. So the Internal Troops were only counting on encountering individual guerillas and taking them out.

In the alleyways of Royal Town the rebels were split up. At first they did not coordinate with each other. But then they encountered more people roaming the alleyways suspiciously clearly in a tense mood. Several times they even pulled guns on each other. And then they would realize that they were all rebels. They either demonstrated that by showing Vesvaian national symbols they were carrying with them or by stating information that only rebels would know. Of course there could always be spies or government agents posing as rebels. There was never any proof or guarantee against that possibility. But time was never on the rebel side because the Union forces were on their tails. So they simply had to rely on supposedly similar minded strangers they met on the streets and join forces with them to flee from Internal Troops.

Internal Troops had orders from their commanders on the spot to shoot to kill mostly but also try and take prisoners to achieve the possibility of interrogating some guerillas and maybe find out valuable info. Given the professional ability of guerillas to hide in plain sight it was possible that they could peak out of any corner. That is why the Union forces were so tense. But since the guerillas also tried to blend in with regular citizens chances were low that they were dressed in military camouflage or anything that would allow them to blend into the environment. So all that Internal Troops had to look for were suspicious characters. Still given the nature of guerillas in hiding in plain sight and attacking unexpectedly the Internal Troops still had to be careful.

The rebels were hiding in alleyways and saw the Internal Troops there too. For the most part they tried to stay in stealth mode. It was counter-productive since the pro-independence fight meant that the rebels had to take control of territory and advance further. But in this instance they were outnumbered and outgunned. It was important to either wait for Internal Troops to leave the alleyway labyrinth or for the rebels themselves to sneak out when they saw an opening. Internal Troops had rifles on them while the rebels currently only had hand guns or smaller caliber weapons at best. But if there was an instance of a rebel coming across a Union soldier then fire had to be opened. But for the most part the rebels tried to run and get out of the position of being cornered.

Internal Troops had confirmed guerilla presence in alleyways after first encounters with them. The commanders ordered for the Union forces to surround the alleyways and close exits for the guerillas out of them. They wanted to trap the guerillas like rats and exterminate them by sending in additional brigades that will destroy guerillas from all sides.

The predicament was understood by the Vesvaian rebels. It was an uneasy predicament to say the least. Internal Troops tried to trap them in an alleyway where they could easily destroy the rebels by circling them. That is when those rebels that had formed groups upon meeting each other had spoken and decided on a tactic of splitting up again to make themselves a tougher target for the Union forces. Additionally they agreed to attempt and reach the rooftops as that was the only path for now to leave the alleyways and possibly confront the Union forces sniper style before trying to reach other buildings or escape the closed off alleyways. At the moment the rebels had no aircraft of their own that they could use for evacuation. The rebels understood themselves that the Union forces knew about their lack of resources and that’s why they were seen as an easy target. But that did not discourage the rebels from continuing the pro-independence struggle.

Lesami, Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, Island of Vesvai, Union of Oblaren and Vesvai

Internal Troops had sent helicopters to Lesami. It was a city in the south-eastern part of Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai. Internal Troops had detected guerilla presence there. It was accomplished the same way as with the detection of guerillas in Royal Town. The locals in Lesami were not warned about the arrival of the military. The amount of helicopters hovering above their heads like a flock of birds made many locals uncomfortable. The reaction from the streets was none to welcoming. But the yells, boos and whistling along with gasps of shock at the arrival of the military were soon relaxed.

The police had increased presence in the streets. Officers started approaching people and telling them to behave and not discredit the Internal Troops. They have arrived here to fight terrorists and that’s what was told to the locals of Lesami. But that also caused mixed reactions. Some started refusing the police demands and insisting that the guerillas were heroes and patriots. The police did not detain anybody but pressured folks to secure their manners and speak in favor of terrorism unless they want to become suspects themselves. Crowds were being encouraged to move along and not to gather or loiter at the sight of the military’s arrival.

The helicopters were doing scouting from the skies in the meantime. After the Internal Troops more or less get a clear picture of where the guerillas could be hiding or if they notice suspicious individuals from bird eyes view then they will land on rooftops of Lesami’s buildings.

The rebels who have infiltrated the crowds and blended in have noticed the arriving helicopters together with the rest of the people on land. The important thing now was to sneak out of public and not to attract attention of regular citizens or of the police. Each of the rebels was on their own. They didn’t know which person standing down the street from them, next to them or a couple of feet from them might have been another rebel also under threat. Fellow rebels could probably be recognized by their behavior and an attempt to notice how they’re withdrawing from public into the shadows. Away from police and Internal Troops looking for them. But since the police was not dispersing everybody it was difficult to find a fellow rebel. Everyone was on their own still. But at the moment it was probably for the best because bigger groups of loitering citizens could attract attention as potential rebels who got together and are conversing about their next move.

Internal Troops had their helicopters landed on the rooftops of the buildings in Lesami. From there they went downstairs across all floors to the land level. Other helicopters had troops inside land with ropes while the helicopters were still in the air but not moving. The commanding officers approach senior police personnel and informed them of the Lesami authorities sanctioning this military operation and arrival of Internal Troops in Lesami. The military asked police to keep order in the streets and control road movement to prevent citizens from interfering with the military’s work.

The crowds were emptying the streets by police requirement. The roads were now taken under control by the police and its officers were patrolling the streets. The citizen traffic and pedestrian movement was becoming limited. The military took control of the situation and were now free to roam the streets in their guerilla hunt. Single guerillas didn’t know what approach to take so they could only hide or take over since they were clearly outnumbered. The next step was an enigma.

Tanks and armored cars of Internal Troops were now dominating the traffic of Lesami’s streets. As soon as the Union forces started feeling comfortable in the new location of operation they started the mission. Troops had set up tracking equipment to search for frequencies again in case guerillas were trying to contact each other through radio communication. They might also randomly track the signal of a potential radio itself which would make any radio possessor visible. Apart from searching for radio signal Internal Troops started doing scouting like searching for suspicious guerillas from top floors and rooftops with the help of snipers. Some aircraft was also taken into the air to perform scouting. Regular troops on the ground were patrolling and searching the streets together with police officers.

While fleeing the scene quietly some rebels could see what the Internal Troops were doing. They saw the tracking equipment for radio signals and the scouting that the aircraft was doing above Lesami. Snipers were less easy to see for each individual rebel but those truly looking intensely could see that too. That meant that those who had radios not only better not use them but destroy them to escape signal tracking. Or better yet leave them in a random location to mislead the Internal Troops who will think it’s one of the rebels locations. But it was important for all rebels equally to at least have a handgun for self-defense. It was a good weapon for an individual encounter but not really a weapon to fight an enemy army. So with access to no rifles the rebels could only take a safe position and wait for an opening. A handgun could only help shooting back from behind cover but not for very long.

Snipers were scouting the streets for suspicious characters. So far only police and military since everybody was told to move out of the streets. The helicopters weren’t reporting much luck over the radio either. Radio signals couldn’t be tracked by ground soldiers either. It was almost as if the guerillas had learned from their past mistakes in how the military and the police were able to track their location elsewhere in Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai.

Some of the rebels had minimum supplies on them but enough for achieving something. Apart from handguns some had binoculars. It allowed them to peak from some corners further away and get a good look at the Internal Troops along with police. They could also get a clear view at the snipers and helicopters. This observation was only useful for knowing how far the danger was. The rebels were not equipped enough to actually fight the Internal Troops and the police.

Commanders on the ground told Internal Troops to split up into groups and go look for guerillas. Similarly to the tactic used by other Internal Troops in Royal Town the military here was sure the guerillas would attempt to hide in remote areas. With the police closing Lesami down it was more likely that the guerillas could be anywhere. But it also made the military’s job easier. Not only did Internal Troops have an opening to search through entire Lesami. They also could easily track down guerillas because those individuals dressed in civilian clothing but still out on the street will definitely be guerillas separated from the rest of the crowd.

Despite not coordinating the rebels were in a collective dilemma. And many of them may not even know that they are thinking about the same thing. Since the military and the police have basically taken over Lesami the guerillas had little to no chances of taking control of Lesami in their current state. Even if they would magically be able to capture administrative building and claim Lesami for themselves the Internal Troops or even the Armed Forces of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai in their full range would kick them out and reclaim Lesami for the Union. At the moment the guerillas were at a dead end.

Harrods, Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, Island of Vesvai, Union of Oblaren and Vesvai

Internal Troops have rolled into the larger city of Harrods up in the north-west. Guerilla activity was spotted there too. Although this Internal Troops were also rolling into random cities especially as big and strategically important as Harrods. With that city being up in the north-west the guerilla activity there meant that the terrorists had a big grip despite not providing much of a combat challenge to Internal Troops. With the exception of those several instances where the Union forces battled guerilla armies in random areas of Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai at the same time. They had put up a fight and disappeared since. That’s when the Union concluded that the guerillas were back with a second campaign. And that’s when the armed forces of the Union launched a second anti-terrorist military campaign against the guerilla insurgency.

Harrods was an important city to protect. If guerillas are not expelled from cities especially in such a geographic area and such a status then it can mean that they can reach Aurisi very quickly. And reaching Aurisi would be deadly dangerous for Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai because taking control of this city almost equal taking control of Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai. But that’s also how it used to be. The guerilla crisis has decentralized authorities in Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai. Now the troops and police can be commanded by municipalities who only answer to Union’s capital Fortwel. But with guerillas they had been acting more independently.

The rebels in Royal Town and Lesami weren’t having much luck at all at the moment in the confrontation with the Union forces and the authorities. They were cornered, without enough numbers to fight the Union army and not enough weapons or good kinds of weapons to match the enemy. But they haven’t been found just yet so their loss on those fronts can’t be declared just yet. There were guerillas in Harrods too so the hunch that the Union forces had were correct. As for the kind of luck the rebels were going to have here that’s another question.

Unlike Lesami, Harrods and Royal Town were more loyal to the authorities and the Union. The separatists in a form of guerillas and other terrorists didn’t have as much support here. That’s why the police and the Union forces didn’t have as much trouble convincing the locals to behave and allow the military and the police to take control. Or to convince locals that guerillas were posing a real terrorist threat where all conditions needed to be created for the military to protect Harrods and Royal Town inclusively.

By comparison to other cities where the rebels were active: Royal Town and Lesami there was a smaller number of rebels in Harrods. They knew that this was a less welcoming place of a pro-independence uprising in opposition to Lesami. Royal Town isn’t too fond of the rebels either but it seemed that Harrods was even more anti-rebel. That’s why the rebels didn’t flock to Harrods like to other places in Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai. It also had something to do with geography too but that wasn’t a major factor.

For the rebels that came from New Vesvai’s territory in the first guerilla campaign it was difficult to reach the northern parts of Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai. The insurgency was concentrated in south-western regions because of how they were bordering New Vesvai. But since the rebels in the current campaign were locals they could appear anywhere and they did.

Harrods was a large city. Finding rebels here for the military or the police wouldn’t be as easy. But since Internal Troops and the police were basically taking the entire situation and the city’s territory under control it meant that it still wasn’t easy for the rebels to be in this predicament. There was a question of what they should be doing at all at the moment. Taking over the city authorities seemed very unlikely and far from the truth. But the rebels couldn’t allow themselves to voluntarily abandon and withdraw from such a strategically important city as Harrods. Having a foot here and keeping it here was important.

The size of Harrods made the search for guerillas a little more difficult. It was good that the populace was loyal to the Union, the government and had an anti-guerilla sentiment. It meant that Internal Troops and the police wouldn’t have trouble with citizen compliance and the operation could advance smoothly. But the size of the city meant that the guerillas could be anywhere. The best option would be to simply look at those who stayed on the streets and apprehend them as suspected guerillas since regular citizens were told to stay inside. But this kind of selection and enforcement of curfew is easier in smaller cities, towns and villages than in a city like Harrods.
