Rural areas, Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai, Island of Vesvai, Union of Oblaren and Vesvai

The rebels felt much more comfortable out in the rural areas. It was more difficult for the Union forces to find them there and the environment was basically created for guerilla warfare. The rebels didn’t have these privileges out in the cities. At the same time cities are what the rebels needed to take control of in order to liberate the territory of Vesvai from Union sovereignty. Aurisi was no longer a strategically key city to take because the local government has basically terminated itself. The center of the Union was in Fortwel which was in Oblaren’s archipelago. That was impossible to reach. But that didn’t matter. The goal of the rebels was not to overthrow the Union itself. It was to get Vesvai out of the Union and to make it independent. Whether there was one key city to take or not the rebels still needed to take all of them to physically remove the Union’s control.

It was easier for the Union forces to find guerilla movements out in the rural areas by tracking the radio signal and radio communication. It was different from the cities where it was not as successful either because there are too many frequencies or for some other reason. Maybe out in the cities the guerillas are using the internet to communicate while those out in the field use radios. Even tough it was easier to find them the mission overall was not less complicated. The Union forces knew that the guerillas felt in their element out in the field and could perform guerilla warfare much effectively. So an ambush or being picked off one by one was a much bigger risk here than in the cities. There were no local authorities to help out.

The rebels haven’t regrouped yet. It seemed like many preferred the strategy of keeping a decentralized insurgency to be less of a reachable target for the Union forces. Many have already caught on to the tracking of their movement through radio signal and radio frequencies. That’s why the rebels started abandoning radios and looking for alternative forms of communication in case they needed to contact each other. That even though they preferred to stay apart. That was difficult to achieve since any form of communication that came to mind could either be traceable or difficult to hide from prying eyes. Improvisation and creativity was a valuable resource in this battle too.

Internal Troops eventually noticed that the guerillas have started dropping radio communication. The terrorists realized how they were being tracked. That’s why the Union forces had to follow the guerillas by hot trail. The Internal Troops had to contact nearest local authorities to coordinate a blocking of internet connection in order to prevent guerilla communication. In the meantime the internet troubles would be blamed on foreigners conducting cyber attacks as the official version of events. But somehow it didn’t feel like jamming the internet would threaten the guerillas too much either since they really were in their element out in the fields. They blended with the environment and felt more like the predator in this case rather than the prey.

When the rebels approached villages they often received welcomes from the locals. They did not even need to steal crops or look for supplies. The villagers gave the rebels everything and looked upon them as heroes. They also provided meals and beverages for the rebels along with shelter. If law enforcement were walking by and questioned the villagers of they saw any rebels the villagers would reply with a negative while hiding the rebels in their own homes. The villagers were greatly risking of being prosecuted for collaborationism or support of terrorism if caught. But that’s the risk many were willing to take for the cause. It was very reminiscent of the first guerilla campaign with rebels currently present in New Vesvai and preparing for another day when they will get to get back to Vesvai’s part of the Union and try fighting for independence again.

The loss of radio signal tracking has made the operation tougher for Internal Troops. The search for guerillas was at random. There wasn’t exactly a hot trail to go by. The last detected geographic locations where the guerillas might be were memorized. But that could not fully qualify for a hot trail because the rebels were also aware that they were being searched for. So they were constantly on the move. So were the troops. With the vigilance and unexpected professionalism of the guerillas in the field it was difficult to say who was hunting whom at this point.

Similarly to the past guerilla campaign the farmers gave rebels not just any necessary food or other supplies before sending the fighters on their way but also gave them their own unregistered weapons. Villagers wished the rebels luck in the quest the success of which impacted everyone. The rebels wanted to get out of the villages as soon as possible in order not to turn them into targets of police or military suspicion. That was a sign of gratitude and care for fellow Vesvaians. Moderate rebels were even shocked how their own radical counterparts could even think about hurting anyone from regular citizens when they are being so helpful to the cause. Then again it also depended on the individual city, town and village as not everyone was so pro-independence and supportive of the rebels. Some were supportive of the Union and worked closely with the military, police and authorities to expose whom they viewed as terrorists just like the official propaganda was declaring them to be.

Hearing the success or at least relative progress of counter-parts working in city areas the commanders of Internal Troops hunting for guerillas in rural areas were demanding heavy artillery and more tech as well. This time the Union forces were prepared to go hard on the clean field in case it meant that they had a chance of killing the hiding guerillas or at least putting enough fear into them or those thinking of going out there and joining the separatist terrorist cause. Without directly mentioning it the commanders were hinting that napalm might be an effective tool to get rid of the guerillas like rodents.

Rebel surrender and return to laying low

Postby Vesvaian Rebels » Wed Sep 09, 2020 11:49 pm

Ending of the Second Uprising

This was the second guerilla uprising that the rebels had waged. The difference was that in the first attempt the uprising was waged by armed formations of desperate expats and defectors who came from a foreign nation to wage war for their actual native homeland independence. The second time around the actual locals who still stayed on Vesvai’s soil got inspired and picked up arms themselves where they left for the fields, the forests, the jungles, the rebel underground movement in the urban areas. And despite the huge energy of inspiration and the pro-independence sentiment that was powerful enough to inspire random Vesvaians to become partisans it still didn’t seem like the energy was strong enough this time around to begin the next national awakening.

Like the first guerilla uprising before it the second guerilla uprising cut off from outside support unlike the first one has warned itself out. The local under-resourced and disorganized rebels were no match for the military and police apparatus of the Union which has made conclusions from the past guerilla uprising and only became stronger since. The rebels were cornered and outnumbered in the cities which made them choose between death and fleeing. The second option dominated and the rebels were self-dispersing to avoid the military and the police.

In the fields and rural areas the rebels were less vulnerable. But they too soon began to see that their uprising was going nowhere. The military was only increasing their presence to the point where it would be physically impossible for the rebels to hide from them. Losing motivation and having no access to organize or resource their improvised and decentralized pro-independence movement the rebels were putting down weapons one after one. They were slowly withdrawing back into normal life before the state finds out their identity and could hold them responsible for guerilla warfare and separatism. Since the second guerilla movement was random and had no leaders there were no commanders that could declare one-sided cease-fire or surrender. Some attempted to hint at it or send anonymous signals to the military to announce surrender. But for the most part the military made that kind of conclusion themselves by seeing a dramatic drop in rebel activity and surrender of physical positions where the Union forces detected rebel presence and regarded them as guerilla turf. But the rebel flag was no longer there.

The second guerilla uprising was factually over before it could begin full-swing like the first one. The rebels had surrendered. But this was possibly not the end of the pro-independence movement in Vesvai. It was just the end of the first and second rounds. The locals have lost energy and motivation now but expats, dissidents and defectors will keep the dream alive in their communities settled abroad. But today Vesvai still remains part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai and the status quo remains.

Terrorists surrender again, the return of peace to Vesvai

Local authorities around Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai reported back to the Interior Ministry in Fortwel. The Interior Ministry was already receiving direct information from Internal Troops who fought under their command but local authorities in Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai reported back too. The Interior Ministry in Fortwel was told that the terrorists had been defeated and peace had been returned to Vesvai’s part of the Union of Oblaren and Vesvai. The second terrorist uprising was defeated and the military declared an indefinite end to it. Obviously for the 100% end to the uprising it’d be best for the terrorists to admit defeat themselves. But not only was it already too obvious but there were also signals coming from the guerilla side itself which let the military understand that the terrorists were giving up positions and turning over ground. The guerilla movement was random and decentralized so there were no known commanders to expect cease-fire or surrender declarations from. So the military only could depend on getting signals from random guerillas themselves and that’s what the Union forces were basing conclusions on. Of course the lack of central leadership in this second wave of guerilla uprising made it difficult to make calculations because there was nobody to negotiate with. So of course random signals of surrender from separate guerillas were not a guarantee of guerilla defeat. That’s why the strategy was to make the military’s presence and control of the Union’s part of Vesvai Island’s territory all-encompassing and to make sure that the guerillas are cut off from possible foreign supplies. And that’s what the Union forces were pursuing.

Royal Town, Harrods, Lesami, Inara and Laetus Tagat were the most active zones of guerilla activity in this second campaign and that’s where the Union army and the local police were doing most work. By cornering the guerillas the Union army and the police had basically forced the terrorists out of the cities and forced them to go into hiding. There wasn’t much combat action be seen also mostly because the strength and numbers of forces on both sides were incomparable. But to make sure that the ground was secured the Union army occupied Royal Town, Harrods, Lesami, Inara and Laetus Tagat with overwhelming numbers of forces including with reinforcements to guarantee full control over the situation. How long would the military presence remain is unknown and there’s no state of emergency of martial law intended to be declared by local authorities. But even without a legal basis for such action factually the military is going to have to hold control over the Union’s part of the island for some time. The guerilla flag used to symbolize Vesvaian separatism wasn’t flying anywhere. The Union forces made sure of that as well. Only the Union flag was flown everywhere and the territorial integrity of the mutual homeland of Vesvaian and Oblarenite nations with the capital in Fortwel was preserved and will be preserved.

There was no guarantee that there wasn’t going to be a third wave of guerilla uprising. Just like there was no guarantee of anything else in the Union’s troubled life. But with each defeat of outside enemies and enemies at home the Union forces were making conclusions and become better prepared with better resources and a better strategy with more guaranteed success. For comparison the first guerilla campaign lasted longer and was defeated later. The second uprising circulated quicker but was defeated much sooner. The first one was done by better armed and trained guerillas from outside the borders with access to foreign support while the second uprising was done by locals but without the resources and sponsorship. That’s why the second insurgency moved quicker because of the local factor while the first one was invading from abroad across a insanely controlled border and only managed to take a handful of south-western regions. But the characteristic of the opponent were not the dominating factor. It was the military of the Union which was getting better with every insurgency. That’s why chances are that the third, fourth, fifth and sixth guerilla uprisings might end before they could even properly begin because the Union will be prepared for them better than they ever were for the first and second terrorist insurgency. But until that moment comes if it will come at all the land of Vesvai specifically and the Union overall were at peace once more.
