Hertz Village 2010
Colonel Paloa gave orders to his troops to join the local troops in artillery fire to the point where engineers were forced to totally abandon any measure on the bridge, the infantry troops settled on the trenches, awaiting for the next step from the locals.

In the next hours Colonel Paloa received a call from the State Dept. on Military Affairs :
''Political commentary at home on our involvement is receiving criticism from many directions, for some our involvement is unnecessary, for others the lack of aerial support puts the safety of our troops at risk, i asked today the government of the People's Republic to allow for the deployement of 4 Sukhoi Su-25 for close air support and i'm awaiting their official response''

General Student and his staff saluted his Irpanese counterpart. "Guten Abend, Herr Markus, I am General der Fallschrimtruppe Arthur Student. Adopting a more relaxed demeanor, he continued "The aid we have sent you would enable you to open a second front. Where do you plan to open up a second front? I have a reinforced brigade available and ready to assist you in your assault."

Carrying on, he added: "Also, do you mind giving me a briefing of the layout of the area, OSINT and satellite photos will only tell me so much. Knowledge of troop dispositions, the lay of the land, any objects of interest such as fortresses, bridges, defensive lines, and the like would be most welcome."

Separatist Capital, Shapeshte, Government house 2200

The President Covna was sat in his office enjoying a nice cup of hot chocolate before bed on the first successful day of his governing he had achieved a lot. He had been voted President by the people of the republic. His ministers had been appointed and his government formed. It had been a good day. Then there was the situation with his new field marshal. He found himself repulsed by that man Ivan he couldn't stand him personally he was impulsive and poorly dressed in his opinion, hardly right for the head of the army but he would have to do seeming the other two had gotten themselves killed in that airstrike early in the morning. Shame really. But he was waiting on a special report from Separatist Special Forces, men who had remained behind in Irpan City in plain clothes to gather intelligence and when the time was right to strike at the Imperial Regime again. He had received a report in the afternoon of German troops arriving in the city and he had given the order to give them a welcome to Irpan. The attack should have happened by now but he was worried that no-one had survived the attack seeming no-one was reporting in.

There was a knock at the door. "Come in." He spoke softly but hard enough for it to carry through the door. The door opened and a young aide came in carrying a piece of paper. "Sir we have received this message from Kergstan. It is a request for them to bring in military aircraft to assist on the front." The young man said. Covna smiled at the nervous young boy and replied, "They are allowed, but I don't think," He looked at the piece of paper, "That four jets is going to contend with the Imperial Air Force is it? Send them a request for more if they can provide them." The young aide nodded and left. Covna finished his hot chocolate and got up and went to bed, it had been a busy day.

subject: aerial support

The offer of aerial support is very welcome to our bloodied and battered ears. But the four jets you suggest bringing will be easily shot out of the sky by the IAF. If you are able we would like to see more jets sent to fight the enemy planes and provide close air support for our troops.

German Compound, Irpan City Airport, Irpan City 2100

"Good evening General Student it is good to finally put a face to a name. I-" General Markus stopped. He had heard something the unmistakable pop pop pop of gunfire. But that was impossible Irpan City was secure, was it not? "General I think we are under attack." General Markus said very calmly as a soldier ran in holding his arm to stem the flow of blood from a bullet wound, "SIR!" He yelled then dropped to the floor.

As the battle for the German Compound raged General Markus had his personal guard establish a perimeter around himself and General Student and his staff. Whilst help from the Imperial Guard Garrison in the next compound over came in five minutes to kill all the attackers. The leader of the Imperial Guard came into the meeting room, "Generals, sorry we took so long the buggers hit us as well."

Hertz Village 2100

The increasing the artillery bombardment drove the engineers from the bridge and soon counter battery fire was begun but only one BM-21 was hit by the Imperial artillery firing back. The men in Hertz cowered in their trenches praying for the bombardment to stop so they could get some sleep. But the shells continued to rain down and would until dawn.

Lacienian Supreme Council Chamber 1300
General Thomas Progon cleared his throat and began talking. "I would like to ask for authorize an invasion force headed by Brigadier General Katherine Ellis to be deployed at once into Irpan. This force will be constituted of 2000 marines and specialists, 500 engineers, two H225M Helicopters outfitted with the H-Force weapons platform, and twenty JLTV's to be deployed in five of each of the four configurations. These will also be supported by 1000 marines who will be brought in if necessary. All of the equipment, supplies, and manpower are to be brought in by three Airlander Airships to Airstrip A1.

Once the votes had been counted and action had been authorized, an unidentified voice asked "What about the toll on the economy and society as a whole?" Soon the entire council was pelting that exact question at General Progon. After a few minutes of the chaos, a representative from one of the various government think tanks shouted "Everyone calm down! We have thought of that already and are currently putting in safeguards against all major societal and economic consequences."

Airstrip A1 0100
It was pouring with rain when the airships landed and began to hastily unload their cargoes while their passengers immediately filled every position available. Brigadier General Ellis walked out of one of the airships and into the communications building to consult with Central Command on Strategy. Ultimately it was decided that It would be in two phases. Phase one would be assassinations and surgical strikes performed by spec-ops teams in order to weaken and demoralize the enemy. Phase two is an all out assault to take advantage of the temporary window created by phase one.

OOC: This is my first RP so advice is welcome.

Chamerblain Military Command, 2100

"Well it's all gone to buggery"

Prime Minister Brady sat with a stony expression. She was assured this would be a quick and easy aid mission. Nothing to worry about. Now she was looking at a major international incident in a country most had never heard of. General Hamilton, the man who intially proposed the conflict, turned to address the issue.

"That's one way to put it Prime Minister. We're losing count of the number of new actors joining. So far Mantuni Airfield itself has proven stable. But even the shortest trip outside the perimiter has proven deadly. We're counting at least 10 dead from the earlier attack, all dead to fire from across the river. We have no way to know how many civilians upriver have died, but we're assuming its in the thousands."

There was a general sigh around the room. It was happening again.

"Prime Minister we have two choices. We can dig in where we are now and do next to nothing at great expense, or we can spend treasure to save lives. Colonel Caddis has called for an expansion in the operation. The 5th Airborne have been readied to drop across the river and secure the crossing. We have drones overhead. It seems the attackers came from a village nearby. We can easily neutralise it, establish control over the area and make contact with the separatists in short order. With the support of drones and mobile artillery across the river, the risk is minimal.

Brady sighed and rubbed her eyes. This was proving more than she bargained for.

"Get it done General"

West bank of the Nohetser river crossing, 2300

Life comes at you fast. The RAC commandos had landed first that day, now they were crossing a river on a tiny rope pulled raft. They'd been designated pathfinders. The Airborne were coming.

Cpt. Horsfield was the first across. The sound of the river had concealed them thus far. He slowly made his way up the river bank. Drones had spotted some kind of man-made structure up ahead. Might be a lookout, might be a well. Either way, they were to check it out. Horsfield saw it right off. A look out, foliage on top, mud all around in the middle of a riverbank. Amateur hour in Irpan apparently.

He signalled the advance. They were just about audible as they surged across the short distance. He was the first one there, throwing back the foliage as one of his men dived in and overwhelmed the sole occupant. He was a teenager, and he was terrified. There were a rusty pair of binoculars in there, but no weapon.

"Gag him, bind him, hold him back. The rest of you, time to set up the landing zones."

The captain looked at his own IR beacon, and then at the hill overlooking the village. Not sure that counted as an "approach" by a militia standard.

Horsefield was the first man there
Nohetser Bridge 0000

Lt. Camp looked at the small battery of mortars carried in their APCs. The plan was simple. The Airborne would land across the bridge. To cover the sound of the planes, the mortars would begin a furious barrage of the ridge the fire came from. Hopefully it'd also draw out any combatants, and keep the civilians inside.

He heard the crackle over the radio. "Operation Morris is commenced".

He relayed the order.

Thump

He imagined he could see the shells in flight. He didn't need to imagine them landing.

"Alpha Village", 0030

A lot can change in a day. What had begun as a small aid mission to some small country had escalated. Multiple nations had gotten involved, and the government in Chamberlain had no choice but to escalate in turn.

The 5th Airborne Regiment were not peacekeepers. They were not at all trained in the delicate art of diplomacy, nor did they have any interest in such pursuits. Their passion was war. Aggressive, industrial combat deep behind enemy lines. Even so, amongst them there was a "less than lethal" platoon, the 3rd. These men, despite being trained to not kill, were almost certainly the most capable group in the entire regiment. Trained to "impose" themselves on a situation to disarm, they were bristling with weaponry, some lethal, like the M6 Carbines they carried. Some less than lethal, like the innovative underslung tazers carried under the barrel. And, unlike their counterparts, they were drilled to drop as close to the target as possible to disarm them. They were good at their job. Only the RAC guys were better.

As they fell to earth they could see the fire from the bombardment. In the dark they couldn't see much, but command was in their radio informing them as to what was happening. The "enemy" have rushed to secure the villages approaches. The main road in and out are heavily guarded. The flanks have been abandoned. They're expecting an attack from the river. Plan proceeds as normal.

The beacon was well in place when they landed. 3rd Platoon had lost 2 enlisted to drop related injuries. A low number.

It took them a few minutes to get organised. But after that they began their descent down the steep hillside. In the silence, they knew that in the surrounding area crossroads and other key locations were being seized by dark figures in the night. There were at least other 2 platoons just watching this village. 3rd Platoon had a grander objective. The village was for them to seize.

Each squad had been assigned a set number of buildings. Upon stacking up at each one, a codeword was given and they were all simultaneously stormed. The first set of buildings went like clockwork. Civilians were found and secured. One armed combatant, he was out cold after Private Novak took offence to his old rifle and slammed him into wall.

The next round of buildings went wrong.

Upon opening one squad found themselves in front of a group of 5 men pouring over maps. Rifles all along the tables. Two fell to tazers, two more to silenced rifle fire as they reached for their guns, but a third was able to both fire and shout for help before he himself received several thousand volts. The noise was easily heard across the village. Stealth was out. Shooting was in.

High above the village, a drone recorded the militia rousing from their positions. It also recorded dozens of airborne soldiers rapidly and silently approach their positions just as a flare from the village went up.

For a split second it was comical. Both sides stood gawking at each other from only a few dozen metres. Then it became serious as they both started shooting. It was never a fair fight.

The Militia fought well. They fought hard. They were totally outflanked and being fired on all sides. Quickly they started losing men, and when the mortar shells started up again, most called it a day and threw up their arms. The Airborne had lost 3 men to injury, 1 serious. The Militia had lost 5 dead, 15 wounded. "Alpha village" was secured.

Within minutes helicopters began arriving full of intelligence types. They began taking photos of the buildings and took any paper they found for analysis. There was a mystery to be solved here.

Cpt. Horsfield thought he had an easier way.

In a basement of one of the larger buildings, three militia men roused to find themselves handcuffed. A solitary light on the roof provided light shining over the three other men. Armed to the teeth. No name badges, no flags, only eyes showing. One of them walked forward and produced three bottles of water, drinking a sip from each and handing them out. Then Horsfield squatted down and asked the pertient question.

"Gentlemen, I have only one thing to say. Who the everlasting Christ are you?"

The Roads of Irpan City 2200
To say the least, Colonel Brown , the head of the Irpanian Empire's secret police, had an excellent night filled with laughter and fine dining. On the way back to his quarters he was struck by a thought and asked his bodyguard what he would do if he had the resources to do anything. The body guard replied with “Well, I would end the……” It was only then after Colonel Brown looked over and saw his bodyguard slumped over and with whole in his skull, that he heard the familiar pop-pop of gunfire. The driver of the car, a trained Imperial Guardsman, immediately took action and swerved to the left into an alley in hope to evade the shooter. Once they were in the alley the driver called for support from the police. Colonel Brown relaxed his breathing and mourned for his bodyguard. When the two occupants of the car could see police sirens, they were incredibly thankful and happy. Finally, upon the arrival of the police cars, the two of them got out of the car to greet the policemen. Then, with a shock, Colonel Brown realized that he wasn’t seeing policemen, he was seeing the black uniforms of Lacienian spec-ops team. Unfortunately for him, this realization came too late and a fraction of a second later he was gunned down.

General Student was nonplussed. As a grizzled paratrooper with experience as boots on the ground, he was used to the sound of small arms fire. When the shooting stopped, he turned to the Imperial Guard commander and said, "It's quite alright, what matters is that they have been driven off for the time being". He asked General Markus something "If you can, order all military and law enforcement units that aren't guarding something important to comb the city. Either the rebels are pulling a Tet Offensive on us with sleeper cells or someone's spec ops got into the city"

After speaking, he picked up his phone and shouted something in German, then proceeded to speak to his men, also in German, asking for a casualty report, if anything was damaged and if they are alright, and asking one of them to bring something. The man returned with a bottle of schnapps, three shot glasses and a box of Cuban cigars. As the man filled the glasses, General Student spoke once more to General Markus and the head Imperial Guardsman "This will be a long night so have a seat, a cigar and a drink" as he gestured in front of his table, where there were two chairs for visitors. "We have much to discuss, gentlemen. Now that hullabaloo is gone, tell me about the lay of the land of the rebels, so we can plan our attack as soon as the city is cleaned up."

"Orders from General Student! 1st Battalion is to form up and should be ready by 2230. They are to secure the airport. 2nd Battalion is to form up by 2300 and to scout the City. Dismissed."
"Jawohl, Mein Herr!"

An hour later, men of the 1st Battalion were preparing sandbagged positions and mounting M2HB Browning machine guns around the air field. They have garrisoned the terminal and the air control tower and set up machine guns and even ATGM posts "just in case of a VBIED or God forbid, they capture a tank." While that was going on, 2nd Battalion went out into the streets and began patrolling. As they passed by the German HQ, they saw the dead bodies of the attackers and Irpanese soldiers.

The battalion commander ordered 2nd Company to stay at HQ in case the animals came back for more, while 1st, 3rd and 4th Company continued on the patrol. He then radioed a message back to HQ saying "Mein Herr, I think this is not a general offensive but a decapitation strike, I mean there are spec ops in the city. I respectfully suggest an additional force be sent out into the city, what if they attack our embassy or God forbid, the Irpanese Emperor or GHQ?"
"Noted, Herr Oberst. Detach your 3rd Company and have them head for the embassy. I will have 3rd Battalion out on patrol by 2500.
"Copy that. [REDACTED] out."

German Compound, Irpan City Airport, Irpan City

Markus dismissed the Imperial Guard Commander to organize a sweep of the city with his forces and those of the 425th Grenadiers who were in barracks in the city nearby. "Well General Student the lay of the land for the rebels is-" Markus cut off as his mobile began to ring. "One second General." He held a hand and answered the phone speaking quickly into it. He swore at the words coming out then hung up. "Sorry General that was the politicians it seems more people are joining with the rebels and the Minister of Police has just been assassinated by some sort of special forces unit. I think security will have to be upped here in the capital." Markus sat back in his chair sighing and took an offered glass of alcohol, he took a deep swig. "War will make corpses of us all I'm afraid. Now the lay of the rebel land its heavily forested in the western part near our frontline and then moves to mountains in the east. They have sited their capital in a near impossible city to attack from the air Shapeshte we established a large AA network around the city during the genocide to stop our old masters from bombing the city. Now they have turned that against us. If you're bridge laying equipment is as good as you say it is we should try to make a bridge at Gruendorf to the north of the river that separates us. Hertz is a bloody battleground at the moment and could do with engineers and anti artillery equipment to establish a proper bridgehead there. But that's it, oh and we have humanitarians moving around to the south of the Separatist territory. Not heard anything from them recently."

Village of Pale, 0040

Commander Zero and his two leuitenents Lucy and Lee we're silent to the foreigners words. But they knew what would be coming their militia may have been overwhelmed but the flare they sent up meant only one thing to the spotters in the hills.

The Hill around Pale 0040

"Confirmed sir. The foreigners have taken Pale....Yes sir all attack understood." Colonel James Ortego was a grizzled veteran in charge of the Separatist army unit in the area of Pale and the Nohetser bridge and seeing foreigners cross it he had assumed they were here to cause trouble. The sound of three warrior APCs roaring to life as men ran around grabbing equipment and weapons for an assault filled the air and then the BM-21s fired. "Fire them for ten minutes then stop." Ortego said to his artillery officer who nodded and passed the order to his rocket launchers. The rocket launchers began to stagger their fire then one firing till it had to reload before the next one fired in total the rocket launchers were firing for the ten minutes it took the warriors to close the distance between the Hill and the hills around Pale. Once there the men jumped from the warriors and formed up to clear the woods whilst the warriors would roar down the road and engage the enemy in the village.

General Student replied "Our force has an engineering component and long-ranged artillery in the form of two battalions of artillery, both equipped with 155mm guns capable of firing V-LAP. After our sweep of the city we will send a force consisting of an engineer battalion and two artillery battalions to Hertz to support the crossing, while the rest of our force will support the Grunedorf crossing. As for the humanitarian forces, I strongly suggest sending someone to check on them."

He continued "Do you have alpine units in your armed forces? Perhaps a third front can be opened, in the mountains, at a later date, Also, what forces do you have to attack with on both fronts, including air units?" After taking a sip of his liquor, he turned again to General Markus "You said something about the rebel capital being almost impervious to air attack, due to defenses they captured from you. Tell me as well about these defenses."

The State Department of Military Affairs of the Socialist Republic of Kergstan announces the unilateral decision to retreat from the military campaign in support of the People's Republic due to an intra-party political strife over the armed forces' chain of command and resistance to the policy breach of neutrality that Kergstan has mantained for decades, over a fight far away from our lands and of no important significance for the country.

Therefore,
To avoid the amplification of the political situation at home,
The State Dept. on Military Affairs retreats all of its troops but leaves behind all the equipment brought in the country and gives it to the People's Republic military.
The equipment comprises :

- 80 x 2S12 ''Sani'' heavy mortars
- 50 x T-72 Main battle tanks
- 40 x 2S1 "Gvozdika" Self-propelled artillery
- 4 x Sukhoi Su-25 close air support jet aircraft

Kergstan will continue to support the People's Republic through diplomacy.

Chamerblain Air Force Base 0050

"The source of the artillery fire is up on feed 2 now sir. Old rocket artillery. Feed 1 is still the APCs assaulting the village.Airborne on the ground are aware and are in position to counter."

The drone command centre had been a hub for the last few hours. Information from all over Irpan had been flooding in. The battle for Pale, as the village had been identified, was the current topic of the day. Colonel Doyle, at that moment in command of the operation, was watching intently.

"Very good. Are the assault drones inbound?"

Private Vassel responded without looking away from his terminal.

"Yes sir. Inbound, ETA 30 minutes."

Doyle frowned. That was too long. He could see them reloading.

"Any assets on the ground that are closer?"

Vassel's eyes flicked for a moment between screens

"Yes sir. 1st Company Airborne are 10 minutes out in a holding position. Drone feed shows no significant presence between them and the artillery. Nothing coming towards them either."

Doyle nodded. "Feed the information through. Let them make the call"

1km outside of Pale, 0055

Captain Latchford was kneeling in cover amongst his two platoons when he got the call. The source of the artillery had been identified. They were closest. It was up to them to disable them before they realised that, for the large part, Pale was just a distraction and that the better part of a regiment was digging in all over the countryside. The drones were half an hour out. He was a kilometre away, and he wasn't even covering a key road. The decision was made without his input. Attack.

"All troops under task force Latchford, make ready to move out. New objective. We're getting the big guns. Form up on the rendevous, prepare to head out.

Clicks from the radio rolled in. Silence was still being largely observed.

It only took a few minutes to come into view of the guns. Two sentries were subdued without making a disturbance. The two platoons spread out in a wide line. Ideally they'd try to flank the position, but time was of the essence. Suprise should prove a good enough weapon. Latchford ordered his two soldiers with anti-tank rocket launchers to zero on the two closest artillery pieces and to hold fire. Ideally this would be solved without being revealed. If not, the shock of the explosions should prove enough.

"Taskforce, advance"

If you were looking closely, maybe you would have seen the horizon subtly change shape as dark figures rose from the floor and started a silent push, guns raised. They slinked past the first vehicle without detection, taking down the crew of the first rocket launcher, again in silence. Until a shell rolled off of the truck and clanged to the floor.

Pandemonium erputed as, assuming the game was up, the second anti-tank launcher operator fired at the second BM-21, causing the cabin to erupt in flames. Thankfully the explosion didn't cause a chain reaction, but stealth was not an option.

The two platoons roared and surged forward. A man looking through binoculars barely had time to turn before he was thrown to the ground and knocked unconcious. The small security forces attached either surrendered or were gunned down, not without forcing a few casualties on the attackers, but the whole endeavour was over in a couple of minutes. The fires extinguished, prisoners secured, and the taskforce slipped back into the forests, leaving a small note on the commanders table.

URGENT: CONTACT FORCE COMMANDER AT MANTUNI AIRBASE ON THE LISTED FREQUENCY. WE DO NOT WISH CONFLICT WITH YOUR FORCES.

Pale 0055

The artillery had come as a real suprise. Such forces weren't expected in the area, and the first bombardment caused some chaos in the village. But most forces weren't in the village, and so were able to maintain order in their ranks. 3rd Platoon had taken 2 deaths from the rockets. A few more had been taken amongst the other platoons. The mood amongst the airborne was foul, but the intelligence officers had come with their own orders. De-escalate the crisis. This fight was already won, the incoming dronesand hundreds of airborne crawling over the mountains would see to that, but there was no need for a fight.

The Warrior APC's rolled towards Pale at high speed. Against a lesser force, even the mechanised it would have been a textbook assault. They would have either broken through the enemy lines or, realising the defence was too strong, quickly withdrawn and wait for further bombardment.

This was not a lesser force.

Warned in advance of the attack by a high flying recon drone, the Airborne regiment had dug in around and inside the village. Civilians had been secured in the basements of a small cluster of houses, each identified with a red cross. Intelligence officers guarded them, with orders to surrender them should the Irpanese win the fight. They weren't here as pirates or criminals.

The APCs rolled right through the other perimeter. Observed, but not engaged by outlying forces. Once they were through, Anti-tank teams tracked them all the way. Retreat was not an option. Not without their agreement.

Once the tanks had rolled through, a remarkably casual scene took place. Lieutenant Francis stood up, rifle in his upper hand, a makeshift white flag in the other. If the Irpanese couldn't see him yet, they would in a second, and it was time to sort this damn thing out.

Once the APCs were around 200m from the village a series of illumination flares were fired from the mortars across the bridge, lighting the village and its surroundings. The men on the rooftops or the surrounding hills weren't visible, but who were was the small squad standing brazenly on the main road, simiarily to Lt. Francis, Gun in one hand, flag in the other. There wasn't a need for a fight. But there'd be one if they wanted.

Village of Pale, 0055

The Warriors stopped on the road when they saw the man with his rifle raised and a white flag in his hand. The hatch of the lead warriors turret opened and a head appeared holding a carbine and looking nervous, "What do you want?" The APC commander asked.

Further afield the men at the entrance to the village were met with the same level of confusion. The riflemen of the attack force stopped and went to ground whilst Colonel Ortego walked up to the soldiers his own rifle slung behind his back. "Take me to your leader." He said plainly to the men in front of him.

General Markus took a moment as the drink and the torrent of questions hit him, "Well the air defences are dug in SAM batteries and mobile AA platforms. We know where most of the SAM batteries are located but the mobile, well the hints in the name. Alpine units we don't have they left with the Rebel Generals during the coup and now are stationed in Shapeshte." Markus took a sip of his drink, "As for forces for a second front we have about 4000 men we can spare plus the 3rd Air Wing which is made up of 20 F-15s and 14 F-16s. We are lacking some what in multirole aircraft sadly."

What a clusterfuck thought Captain Julian Foros as he looked over his Squadron. The offloading of the equipment had gone rather well, but now the lack of specificity of the mission itself had taken its toll. The Squadron had just been about to begin its westward trek when the coordinated attack against the Airport had begun, in the name of caution the Squadron stood down. Now the Germans were sweeping the city but the situation was still very much fluid. On top of the Manveuers SNAFU now Foros had to deal with a logistical one, for reasons known only to God and the Brigade G4 the Dragoons of Cavalry Squadron 2 had their Winter Kit (Heavy White Parka, standard camo undershirt, white pants, white helmet cover)

Now Foros was stepping into the Comms tent to see if there was an update on the warm weather camo arrival. As he sat into the chair and fired up the laptop for the Brigade Skype, he thought he discerned more gunshots in the distance as tried to focus more on the sound the jarring voice of the Brigade G6 brought him back to the task at hand.

"Captain, can you hear me and see the rest of the staff?" asked the G6

"Ja" came the terse reply.

it was somewhat unusual for Squadron or Company Commanders to be present yet the Battalion leadership was not, however with only Foros's Squadron deployed Brigade deemed that the Batallion command was not needed in this call.

Now the G4 spoke up "Captain, I am terribly sorry about the current kit predicament we are currently sourcing the necessary changes, but for now, I simply suggest that your troops remove their Helmets and Parka as they would if they did have the appropriate kit."

"And when do you expect these proper kit to arrive? Asked Foros

"uhm..." the G4 said nervously "sometime next week"

"next week? we need to sit in this port till next week?" replied Foros incredulously

this is where the Colonel of the Brigade stepped in "Well no captain, we expect you to deploy to the front, specifically the village of Pale regardless of the kit issue"

Now Foros was angry, he took a breath to make sure he didn't explode on his superiors "sir isint that the village that is currently under siege by the Cressageland Peacekeepers? and how do you expect us to be combat effective in our Armored RECON role???"

the G2 then decided to chime in "our intelligence states otherwise, we believe the Peacekeepers have withdrawn in an effort to appease the locals. We also don't anticipate much resistance. Therefore it is my analysis the Pale would make a good temporary company headquarters.

Foros looked over at the TV and saw as Peacekeepers were shown battling for the village Great... he thought to himself "The Brigade Intel officer can't even be bothered to watch the bloody news".

Foros then turned his attention back to the call and stated "Well then sir, it seems that I must be going"

"Very well Captain, Gods speed! replied the Colonel.

the feed went dark, and now Foros was left in silence. Well he thought to himself, time to get the Squadron on the move

Ironically enough, the topic that did not come across the minds of any of the Brigade staff or Foros was the coordination with the Irpansese. Now Foros was about to role out into a nation at war, with no lines of communication with the hose nation...

THE REPUBLIC OF NANGAJALA

TO: Public FROM: President Eric Vestergaard

The Republic of Nangajala condemns the recent violence in Irpan. We ask all sides to cease their hostilities and instantly enter peace negotiations. Violence only begets more violence. A war, and even more so a civil war cannot be won. It can only be ended and the time to end it has now come.

With this letter, the Republic of Nangajala officially recognises the People’s Republic of Irpan as an independent, sovereign state and asks its government to open an embassy in Nangajala. By this act we do not denounce the imperial government as illegitimate. For the time being and for the sake of peace and progress we recognise both governments as equal.

We commend our friends in Cressageland for the establishment of safe havens for civilians and the enforcement of a no-fly-zone. We will participate in the enforcement of the zone and we are looking forward to a peace conference soon.

THE REPUBLIC OF NANGAJALA

TO: Cressageland FROM: President Eric Vestergaard

Dear Friends,

the situation in Irpan seems dire. The violence is escalating and the Imperial government does not seem to be ready to step down from power yet. We seek to support your mission to establish peace and promote democracy in Irpan and therefore wish to participate in the enforcement of the no-fly-zone. We also suggest economic sanctions against the Imperial government to help them understand that they have to accept the no-fly-zone as a given fact. We also suggest political recognition of eastern Irpan as an independent state.

To help the civilians of both sides we are looking forward to send medical aid and medical personnel to both sides of the civil war. The that end we would like to use your infrastructure. Currently we are using signal intelligence and satellite surveillance to gather more information on the situation on the ground and the strength and location of the imperial forces. We are looking for a quick and bloodless resolving of the conflict but we are willing to use missile and drone strikes to enforce peace if necessary. We would be more comfortable with destroying imperial infrastructure than with neutralising enemy combatants. All intel collected will be shared with your nation. You are free to provide it to other allies.

Please contact us as soon as you can find the time.

THE REPUBLIC OF NANGAJALA

TO: His Royal Highness Emperor Jonathan Nigel of Irpan FROM: President Eric Vestergaard

Your Excellency,

The Republic of Nangajala seeks to offer humanitarian support to your people. We are willing to send whole blood, plasma, food, medical equipment and medical experts to the Irpan City Airport with your permission.

As a gesture of good will we ask you to officially confirm your recognition of the no-fly-zone established by Cressageland. We are currently working on a way to set up a peace conference for Irpan either in Nangajala or elsewhere, an undertaking that would be doomed to failure without your support and participation. We therefore ask your Highness to outline the conditions under which you are willing to participate.

We hope that peace and stability will soon return to Irpan.

THE REPUBLIC OF NANGAJALA

TO: The People’s Republic of Irpan FROM: President Eric Vestergaard

Dear Friends,

we hope that this letter finds you all in good health. As you have already learned we have recognised your nation as an independent state. Running a state needs so much more than just an army. We have taken the liberty to offer a substantial amount of support to your nation. To pay the salaries of your public employees, soldiers and care workers we will provide 25 million Cressageland Dollar to your government. An additional allowance of 500 million is available on several accounts in Nangajala. The money is supposed to be used to purchase material you need to keep your nation afloat. The only prerequisite for that offer is that all goods are purchased from Cressageland. We suggest the printing of passports and your own money (tied to the Cressageland Dollar) as first steps to underline your independence.

We are looking forward to establish two field hospitals and a refugee camp for 5,000 persons in the PRI. We think that the Mantuni Airfield is a good location for one of those camps. We are willing to hire local experts and volunteers to work alongside our people in the camps and hospitals. They will be paid Nangajalian wedges in Cressageland Dollar.

We are looking forward to welcome your ambassador and their staff to Nangajala.

Village of Pale 0055

"We want to talk. We're not from the other side, we're trying to be neutral peacekeepers. We're from Cressageland, and we're trying to deliver aid to all Irpanese. I'm assuming command didn't see fit to communicate with you? It'd be typical. Either way, we have no interest in a firefight here. Assuming this is all due to a misunderstanding, If you call off your attack, the infantry too, I'm sure we can sort this out. I think the overall plan is for me to offer myself to you as insurance, and you to take one of your APCs into the village so we can have our guys talk to yours over the radio. Or I guess we can bring a guy out here. Either way, I'm authorised to offer and accept a total ceasefire on all operations right now, and we'll work past the previous incidents. How about that?"

The young man felt foolish with his arms outstretched trying to negotiate with a silhouette. He hoped it worked. It hadn't hit him that, if it didn't, he'd probably be turned into a fine mist quite fast.

Chamerblain Military Command, 0100

The Prime Minister's residence was, thankfully, connected to the Command Bunker under the capital. This was fortunate, as military and diplomatic representatives had been fetching her all night. The latest development? Miraculously, a good one. A fellow nation aiming for peace had decided to throw in their lot, and they were seeking to help from the established presence in Mantuni Airfield. The Prime Minister breathed a sigh of almost relief.

"Thank them for their offer. Tell them to land a dedicated aid team at Mantuni to help direct their response. I'm sure their help will be much appreciated. See if we can get the forces already there in touch as well, they'll have a better impression of what they need than us. See if we can arrange another regiment of Mechanised infantry as well to provide security."

She looked at the second suggestion.

"We'll take their intelligence if they're offering, but for now we'll keep ours to ourselves. Their forces they send will, of course, be offered whatever intelligence support we can offer. But for now I'd like to see how it develops for a bit."

Eventually the following missive was put together.

TO President of the
Republic of Nangajala

Your aid will be much appreciated. Please contact the forces already in place at Mantuni base for a full co-ordination, but from our estimates there is a dire need for mobile health and food aid. Security can be provided from our forces For diplomatic reasons regarding the civil war, we cannot offer our own intelligence to you on a broad scale for now although be assured your forces on the ground will be kept fully informed. We hope to achieve much together in bringing this war to a swift and peaceful end.

General Student then replied "Including our forces, that would mean our second front would consist of 7,000-8,000 troops and 34 multirole aircraft. We can work with that. As for multirole aircraft, I will have the embassy send a message to Berlin regarding that matter. If we are to have any hope of taking Shapeshte our air force must be in position and your well-equipped."

He continued to say "Pass along a message to your GHQ and your political leaders for me - I mean to request for ground reinforcements as well. I will be requesting for more airborne and artillery units, as well as alpine-trained ones, I mean to open a third front in the mountains. We must do all we can to destroy the seperatists before the imposition of a no-fly zone or God forbid, an intervention on their behalf in the name of "hooman rights", "freedumb", "dumbocracy" and other such nonsense."

Subject: Peace talks

We are offended by your act to recognize the illegitimate government of this so called "Peoples Republic". They are traitors one and all they attempted a coup against the glorious reign of the Emperor Nigel Jonathan who has ruled for fifty years. They have no legitimacy they are rebels and rogues one and all. We have killed two of their military staff already and will not stop till their government officials are brought to Irpan City to be hung.

We would only discuss peace with them if they surrendered themselves to Imperial justice. Seeming this is unlikely we will continue to push them with all our might till they surrender or are broken.

 Good Day.

We thank you for the recognition of our fledgling nation. This is a great step forward for our country and means we have a chance of making a difference for the people of Irpan. We will happily establish an embassy in your nation and I am currently working through the candidate for ambassador to your fine nation.

We also accept the offer of financial support for our nation. We are struggling to pay pensions and other essential payments to the people and are afraid of a general uprising occurring if we do not act soon. The money you offer will be well received and we look forward to working towards a new currency that can be accepted on an international stage.

There is a problem with the Mantuni Airfield being an aid post. It is located in southern Imperial Irpan. We have an offer of the Kreo Airfield located near our capital of Shapeshte which could be used to enforce your no fly zone and also your aid could be made available to the people of the People's republic more effectively.

Hoping you are well,

 President Covno

Village of Pale 0055

The commander of the warrior held up his hand then realised in the dark that probably couldn't be seen, "One second." He said then vanished back inside his turret. He conversed quickly with colonel Ortego who was at the entrance to the village then popped back up. "My colonel has had a word with his highers after meeting your men at the entrance to the village. Your armed forces are allowed no further into the Peoples Republic. Aid convoys will not be harassed by Peoples Army forces and you will be provided protection whenever you ask for it. Is this satisfactory for you?"

General Markus was about to speak when the door opened and his radio operator who had been watching the radio in the car came up to him. "Sorry to interrupt sir but news has just come in from the Politicians." He whispered into his Generals ear for a few moments before retreating. Markus banged his fist on the table and swore an old Irpanese curse. "Those bastards!" He said in a language all could understand. "General I am sorry but I am needed at General Headquarters. It seems another has thrown their lot in with the rebels and established a no fly zone. I will be needed to over see how we proceed. You are most welcome at GHQ anytime General, you and your alcohol." Markus winked as he stood up and finished off his drink. "Your request for more ground units is approved how you will get them that far east without air power is beyond me but they are allowed. I will send a map over soon to show you the area around Grunedorf so we can plan our attack effectively. God bless General." And with that Markus left.

More delays had seen the Squadron wait till the next morning to begin their move. As predicted by Foros Brigade staff had quickly realized that the Peacekeepers had not withdrawn from the village and in fact had set up a ceasefire of sorts. On top of this, a lack of communication between the Tovakian Force and their hosts had led to fears of friendly fire incidents. Brigade Nord command had decided that the Squadron would continue to the River outside of Pale and set up the company headquarters there. Then supply C-130Js would begin flying in supplies to waiting Irpanese convoys who would then supply the Squadron. At least that was the plan.

The convoy had finally at 5 in the morning local, gotten underway. Lights turned on as people tried to get a peek of the thunderous convoy as it rolled down the tight streets. Foros was in the back of a G6 car in the rear of the convoy, he was studying a map of the area, despite the Peacekeeper presence, his orders had been to set up a CP and then hunker down for further orders. Foros didn't like this one bit, too many variables and he had heard reports of rebel rocket artillery outside of the village. But for now he just hoped that he would be able to get in contact with someone from Irpan shortly.

Irpan City Port
Irpan City 1000

Nobody saw the small shadow slipping past the perimeter of the palace. No body other than one poor guard, again nobody noticed when that guard went missing until he was found in the water two days later. This shadow was Corporal Lee, arguably the best sniper in Lacienia, he has been in the military for ten years, special forces for two. With 247 kills, has seen more combat than he cares to remember. Corporal Lee inched forward bit by bit until he reached the edge of a building, which he climbed up. Now on the roof top, he sneaked toward the edge and looked for his mark, Captain Johnson, the chief of operations at the Irpan City Port. After several hours of waiting, it was now or never, Corporal Lee looked through his sights and pulled the trigger.
Irpan City Port
Irpan City 1200

One second Captain Johnson was there, directing his men to offload the cargoes, and the next second he was on the ground with blood spewing from the side of his head. The Men immediately split in two, one group to find the sniper and one group to help the captain. While the first group rushed away, the second surrounded Captain Johnson and checked him over. Luckily, the bullet had missed his head by a centimeter and the blood was coming from where his earlobe used to be. "Thank God he's alive, he must have just passed out from the shock of losing an ear."

"Works for us I think. We'll set up something a bit more...elaborate I think. We have some of your guys in their who we took captive. I think we'll have no problem handing them back, civilians too if they want. I'm sure there's more to talk about, but that's not for us"

Quietly Lieutenant Francis exhaled. He'd been holding his breath without realising.

Village of Pale 0100

Captain Horsfield had drawn his sidearm since the start of the bombardment. Not really to aim, more as a statement to "equalise" the situation in the basment. He kept it drawn until he heard the quick radio burst, upon which he holstered his pistol and turned to the captives.

"Well lads. Seems it's sorted. You're to be released forthwith! Peace reigns. I think the brass have plans for us though, so you might want to stick around."

He signalled to his makeshift jailers who immediately ran to untie them. Horsfield continued

"Not sure, I personally don't care. I think me and my guys are due a rest, so please direct any complaints or questions to, you know, them". He signalled above as he gestured towards the exit. Upon opening the door, the newly released captives saw a figure from military intelligence standing at the top of the stairs, arms crossed impatiently. Their experience with the famed military hospitality of these "foreigners" might not yet be over.

THE REPUBLIC OF NANGAJALA

TO: Prime Minister Brady of Cressageland FROM: President Eric Vestergaard

Dear Prime Minister,

I fully understand your motivation and I share your opinion on these matters. Rest assured that we don’t need your intelligence at the moment. Right now our undertaking is predominantly humanitarian.
We are going to establish a camp near Kreo Airfield and we will soon be ready to help you enforce the no-fly-zone. Once you have fully secured Mantuni base we will send a mobile field hospital to care for the wounded.

TO: The Imperial Government of Irpan FROM: President Eric Vestergaard

Dear Emperor,

As they say on these occasions, sometimes a man must do what a man must do. I am not very pleased with your decision but I have no other choice as to accept it. Please not that we are still willing to send medical supplies and humanitarian aid workers to your nation if you want that sort of help. Humanitarian aid is not tied to any ideology. It is supposed to help people in need.

Please note as well that the PRI is no longer an integral part of the Irpanian Empire. Any incursion by sea, air or land into the sovereign territory of the PRI can and most likely will lead to the loss or damage of people and material.

TO: President CovnoFROM: President Eric Vestergaard

Dear President Covno,

Unsurprisingly the military regime in Irpan City has reacted in a negative way. For the time being the war will continue. We will establish our base near Kreo Airfield. We will build accommodation for internally displaced persons and a military hospital for use by your soldiers and citizens.
It is great to see that reforms and revolution make progress. Nangajala will continue to support you politically and financially. With the political recognition of your legitimate government the road to scientific exchange is open. We are willing to train your students and engineers and to offer shelter to those wishing to move away from the war.
We are looking forward to the establishment of diplomatic relations.

Like grey clouds the cargo planes from Nangajala arrived in the PRI. One after the other they were unloaded by local volunteers and Nangajalan aid workers. Generators were set up and the personnel soon began with the construction of a hospital that would meet the highest standards and a displaced persons camp with significantly lower standards. Some of the aid workers sported particularly short hair, it was from that group that crates with ultra modern weaponry was delivered to the revolutionary forces. Small arms but also portable anti-tank and anti-air missiles, mortars and such things.

To defend the forward position anti-air missile artillery was set up and several drones were launched to scout the surrounding area and even more so the frontline. Just as promised Nangajalan satellites thoroughly scanned the area occupied by the imperial forces focusing on air fields and the concentrations of foreign troops that had just arrived. Relevant findings were instantly forwarded to their allies in Cressageland.

 Dear Commander,

We have received your message and are working thoroughly to get a liaison team together for you. We will be able to meet you at the bridge within an hour of your arrival but be aware the bridge is only a footbridge and not suitable for vehicular crossing. Our liaison at the moment looks like it will consist of a platoon of Imperial Guardsmen from the capital protection units. They are not experienced at frontline combat but are ready for it.

Hoping this message reaches you well,

 General Aurielus Markus

Village of Pale

Colonel Ortego walked through the village looking at the destruction his artillery had wrought and feeling rather silly for attacking these supposed aid workers. He looked at them these men were professionals they had taken the village with very little fuss and were now patrolling it with certainty. His men were outside the village except for the Warriors which sat in the middle of the village by the rather nervous looking LT. He appeared by them and walked upto the man just as he finished talking to the APC commander. "Hello there. I am Colonel Ortego, if you could release those men to me that would be grand thank you."

To gain more intel on the enemy’s ground forces Nangajala heavily relies on the use of reconnaissance drones. Some are used to confirm the results provide by the satellites, some are used to keep eyes on enemy movements and others to tap into enemy communication. For now, no hostile actions are conducted. The unmarked drones keep their distance, try to avoid detection and collect data. As always the findings are shared with allied troops operating in the area.

Back in Nangajala tankers are ordered closer to Irpan to be ready for the inflight refuelling of allied aerial assets.
