03/20/2020 - Missile Attack Damages RZNV Dobrotich During Zolevskoyan-Acerrian Naval Exercises

Pictured above: A Gawron-class corvette of the Zolevskoyan navy, similiar to the RZNV Dobrotich.

At about 8:30 AM this morning, Acerrian and Zolevskoyan naval vessels were attacked while conducting annual joint exercises near the Torka islands. A number missiles were by an unknown assailant at both Acerrian and Zolevskoyan vessels. Although most were intercepted, one successfully hit and damaged the RZNV Dobrotich corvette, which injured 20 sailors and killed another 5. Although the damage has been deemed repairable, the attack put both countries on very high alert. Although the perpetrator is still unknown, the missiles are believed to be Stasnovan P270 Moskit missiles, which are known to have been stolen from RZAF storage facilities by the Zolevskoy National Party in the 2014 war. Following the attack, both the Acerrian and Zolevskoyan governments made the following statements:

"The Acerrian Foreign Ministry condemns this blatant unprovoked act of aggression towards our naval servicemen and our allies. Acerria will never treatise with those who seek leverage through terror, and joins the Zolevskoyan government in strongly condemning and issuing our steadfast support against this threat." Afterwards, the president of Zolevsoy, Nedyalko Valov, made his statement:

"Five sailors were killed and another 20 were injured because of this act of terrorism. As of today, all Zolevskoyan military forces will be on high alert, and the perpetrators will be found and brought to justice, no matter where they choose to cower."

03/20/2020- 8:30 AM - east of the Torka islands
Most of the crew of the RZNV Dobrotich corvette had woken up just half an hour ago, and were ready for the first day of the annual joint exercises with their Acerrian counterparts. The exercises, codenamed Resolute Gambit, pitted both the Zolevskoyan and Acerrian navies against the navy of the fictional nation of Lovgaria, although all the sailors knew that this was nothing more than a stand-in for Volgaria. Several guided missile destroyers, frigates, and corvettes of the Zolevskoyan navy were acting as the aggressor forces for the make-believe engagement, and preparations were almost finished...

"Incoming missiles! Three of them, all supersonic!" A sailor yelled out in the bridge of the Gawron-class corvette. Captain Kostov looked over in shock.

"What?? The exercises haven't even begun yet!" Kostov yelled out. Immediately after, he walked over to the window to see the CIWS guns of the Acerrian and Zolevskoyan vessels around firing north, towards the Torka islands. The sailor operating the radar yelled out that one of the missiles was approaching his ship, just as it too began firing. Despite that, the missile got closer and closer.

"Hold onto something!!" The captain barked. Not even five seconds later, a massive explosion could be heard, followed by the alarms sounding off.

"Damage to the portside! We've been hit by an anti-ship missile! There's multiple casualties!" A voice over the radio shouted. Kostov's heart sank as he realized what had happened, this was real.

"Are there any more missiles on radar?" He asked. The radar operator nodded no. Kostov reached for the communications to speak with the RZNV Zhytsen, a Krivak-II class frigate. "Zhytsen, this is Dobrotich. What does our damage look like? Over." Several seconds passed before a response came through.

"Dobrotich, this is Zhytsen. You've got a pretty big hole in your ship, you're listing a little bit but from the looks of it you'll be alright. We got help on the way already, just hang in there. Out." Kostov took a deep breath and looked out at the Achelian sea, realizing what this could be the start of...

Acerrian Republican Navy
East of the Torka Islands
ARS Tournai, L'Orient-class frigate
0830 20MAR20

"Captain, orders from the Republique. We're adjusting our course fifteen degrees west." As the Tournai's captain echoed the orders, he saw beside him just that ship, who had just recovered a two-flight of Super Pelerin fighters, the loud whine of their engines even from here faintly heard. The seastate was rather calm and the morning air was cold, waves gently lapping against the Tournai's steely hull. They had rendezvoused with a formation from the Zolevskoyan navy just about thirty minutes earlier, leading him to then look at the one abreast and behind them. He didn't recall it's name, though.

"..Fifteen degrees west, aye." As the ship began its turn, there was a whine aboard the bridge as the Tournai's radars detected- and began tracking- two pairs of missiles, screaming towards the task group. The ensign at the controls could not shout loud enough, the jarring call of his voice quickly alerting the crew to the inbound threat.

"Vampire, vampire, vampire- not a simulation, tracking four inbound, port side! They're terminal!"

"Not a-" The captain stared as the grey blips raced towards the fleet, before giving his orders. "Chaff offboard, get interceptors out now!"

Tournai's portside chaff launchers activated immediately on command, a thick cloud of chaff exploding off the port with flare decoys shooting in an arc. Two of the missiles took the bait as Goalkeeper CIWS opened up, their deafening roar saturating the airspace as a stream of red tracers tore into the missiles. One was shred as it began its arc upwards, another was ripped apart directly above the destroyer Sauvegard by two streams of intersecting fire. The third slipped past the bow of the Sauvegard and began the halfmile race towards the Republique, whose own chaff blanketed it. The pilots on deck, barely having deplaned, threw themselves to the floor as rounds peppered the ocean, and eventually met the missile, exploding dangerously close to the carrier and sending the wreck of its debris against the bottom of the hull, charred black marks where the missile had intended to hit.

As the smoke and dust cleared, and communes began to ring across the group, the consensus was that this was just the beginning of an even longer day.

03/20/2020- 8:35 AM - Torka islands

Smoke continued to settle as the missiles launched from the crudely fabricated platforms, which still used antiquated launchers, headed towards the Acerrian and Zolevskoyan vessels just south of the small group of ZNP guerillas. All the fighters had retreated into a nearby forest and waited for their spotters to announce when the missiles hit, all while disguised as regular fishers in a regular fishing boat.

"What if they miss? Will we have to change plans?" A young yet zealous fighter, named Ognyan Ivaylo asked. He maintained a grip on his FN FAL.

"Nothing changes. We're still on the path to free our home no matter what happens." The older Parvan Zlatan answered as he held the radio up, so everyone could listen. Everyone tried to think positively, that all the missiles would hit, and hundreds would be killed. Only then would the false Zolevskoyan government listen to them, as well as the world.

"The missiles are here! They're almost at the fleet, will provide a damage report soon!" A voice yelled over the radio, immediately catching everyone's attention as they all leaned in closer. They waited eagerly for five minutes, until the voice came back.

"...Three of the missiles were shot down, but we hit a Zolevskoyan corvette! It's not sinking though, what do we do?"

Parvan hovered the radio up for a few more seconds before responding.

"That's good. Get back to the island and meet at our rendezvous point. Godspeed." He slid the radio back into his pouch and motioned for his team to follow him back to the point they agreed to rendezvous at, a small farmhouse that had been "borrowed" in order to hide their weapons and change back into their civilian clothes.

03/21/2020 - Zolevskoy National Party Claims Responsibility for Attack on Zolevskoyan And Accerian Naval Forces
Image
Pictured above: The ARS Replique shortly before March 20th.

Just one day after the deadly attack on Zolevskoyan and Acerrian naval forces which killed 5 and injured 20 RZN sailors, the Zolevskoy National Party has claimed responsibility in a threat to both the Zolevskoyan government and the world. This is the first major attack by the ZNP since the war in 2014, and concerns are already mounting of more attacks in the future. The Zolevskoy National Party, which has been declared a terrorist organization, has persistently protested against countries of the Kruppstadt Pact and ABC Defense Etente cooperating with the RZAF.

In their statement, Grozdan Aleksandrov, the leader for of the organization ever since Miro Kotwitz's capture and execution, stated that "any foreign intervention against our cause will result in more bloodshed". He then called on all ZNP sympathizers around the world to rise up and "rid the world of the broken ideas of socialism and globalism".

Despite these threats, the government of Zolevskoy has denounced the attacks, and promised to put down any acts of rebellion perpetrated by the Zolevskoy National Party. President Nedyalko Valov also called on world leaders to denounce the group and prevent any attacks in their countries, and to cooperate to destroy the group, which has been designated as a terrorist organization by most.

GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZOLEVSKOY
ПРАВИТЕЛСТВОТО НА РЕПУБЛИКА ЗОЛЕВСКОЙ

Parliament of the Republic of Zolevskoy
Progena, Republic of Zolevskoy

For the attention of: Grégoire Michaux

Date: 21 March 2020

Subject: Future ZNP Attacks

Dear Grégoire Michaux,

As you know, our navies came under attack by those barbarian ZNP terrorists just yesterday, killing five of our sailors and wounding twenty more. They have made it quite clear today that they want your forces out and for us to submit to their demands, or else they will continue to attack. As you can imagine I have no intention to give in to their lunacy, for the sake of my countrymen. I've already ordered my armed forces to be on alert as this will no doubt infuriate Grozdan and his goons.

Anyways, I'm writing you to warn that the ZNP is much stronger than we may think. Ever since we defeated them in 2014, they've resorted to bombings, kidnappings, and hit and run attacks to get their message across. There's no doubt they have a small but zealous population of sympathizers all over the world, some of which may be capable of carrying out attacks. I strongly advise that you also stay alert, and share any intel you may have with us on their actions. As they operate in our country primarily, we will share any intel we find with you as it is discovered. I only pray that this does not get out of hand, and I wish you well.

Faithfully yours,
Republic of Zolevskoy
Government of the Republic of Zolevskoy

03/27/2020 - 5:00 PM - Progena, Republic of Zolevskoy

A silver 2001 Honda Civic drove down the historic streets in the Zolevskoyan Capital of Progena. It's destination for all four of the occupants was the Acerrian embassy, but not for diplomatic purposes, but to attack and cause as much terror as possible, killing anyone who stood in their way. All four of the Zolevskoy National Party insurgents received the orders directly from Grozdan Aleksandrov himself, to keep his promise of shedding more blood until Acerrian military forces left his country.

"Brother, I hope what you said about their security is right. We better not get cut into pieces by any soldiers as soon as we get out of the car." Bozhidar Teodor, the driver and leader of the group, told Stanislav Kristian, who sat beside him. Anton Petar and Yordan Gerasim sat in the back seats, waiting anxiously to arrive at their destination. Although Stanislav and Anton were armed with AK-74 rifles with enough ammo to clear the whole building, Bozhidar was armed with a more compact Volgarian-made MP-90 submachine gun, while Yordan chose to bring an AMD-65. Each of them were dressed in their typical day-to-day attire, with surplus ammo vests underneath their jackets, and balaclavas in their pockets.

"I told you I used to work there occasionally, I'd know if they had shit like that up their sleeves." Stanislav remarked, as the car moved again once the light ahead turned green.

"The embassy is just ahead. Get ready." Bozhidar announced as everyone else slipped on their balaclavas. He stopped the car, put his on, and then pushed the gas pedal to the floor, jumping the car onto the sidewalk and slamming through the gate of the facility. All four of the rebels jumped out of the car and rushed for the front entrance, shooting and killing two security guards before they could draw their weapons.

"Don't forget the martyr Miro." Bozhidar kicked the large wooden doors in, and before the people in the reception area could notice, the bullets started flying from all the gunmen as they rushed towards the diplomat's offices. Yordan treaded over an unknown man with a 5.45x39mm bullet lodged in his chest, towards the staircase leading to the second floor. The search began for any high-prestige Acerrian political figures to take hostage, especially the ambassador, Gregoire Armade. Anybody insignificant would be shot.

Republic of Acerria
Ministry of Foreign Affairs
Acerrian Embassy in Progena, Zolevskoy

As the embassy workers and their staff filed into the building for another day's worth of work, they expected what they had became accustomed to. The work of the embassy was very limited, approving marriage licenses, citizenship issue resolution, services for travelers who had lost their identifications, and other such mundane tasks as were delegated to the embassy. On some occasions they dealt with situations of minor repute, such as a Zolevskoyan minister arriving to request communications with his Acerrian counterpart, or vice versa.

This was not such a week.

The embassy workers, who had entered the building in a rather relaxed air when the beginning of their 8 AM shifts began on the 20th, experienced a very rude awakening when word of the attack on the Republique's battlegroup came. No Acerrians had been hurt, and a Zolevskoyan ship had taken damage. The guards there had been on high alert, especially so when news came of the demands for Acerrians to leave the country. Consul Michaux had addressed the nation that night and promised that no attack on Acerria or its friends would be taken lightly.

As 5:00 PM came about on the 27th, the staff of the embassy were preparing to return to their homes in Progena's suburbs and apartments, packing their briefcases and wishing farewells to their coworkers. As the stream of workers came from their office, though, they were halted by the sound of screeching tires, gunshots, and cries from below.

The gunmen who entered the compound did so swiftly, the lightly-armed guard complement quickly shot dead before they had a chance to respond. The gunmen would make quick work in cleaving through the embassy, making their way to the floor of the ambassador. Gregoire Armade was not a military man, but he reasoned (rather correctly) that he was to be the target. He directed what remained of the security to escort any they could through the rear exit of the building, and as the gunmen kicked the door into his office, he remained at their mercy.

03/27/2020 - 5:07 PM - Progena, Republic of Zolevskoy

16 more hostages were forced into the room of the Acerrian ambassador's office, who were then ordered to sit behind the desk with their hands behind their head. Three of the hostages were security guards which had surrendered after a brief firefight, one of them with a 5.45mm bullet lodged in his right shoulder. After the hostages were gathered and tied up, Stanislav Kristian and Yordan Gerasim stood outside the office and hung up the flag of the ZNP[ on the door to the Acerrian ambassador's office. Meanwhile, Bozhidar clutched his MP-90 and removed his balaclava, and then announced his intentions.

"The reason why all of you are in this situation is because of your government's continued support of the illegitimate government currently occupying Zolevskoy. As of now, you are all hostages of the Zolevskoy National Party. You will not be released until our demands are met, which includes the total withdrawal of ABC Defense Etente forces from Zolevskoy and the release of all Zolevskoy National Party prisoners being held in their prisons. If any of you attempt to resist against us, you will be shot." After announcing his demands, he motioned for Yordan to bring the Acerrian ambassador to him. He took him by the arm and brought him over to Bozhidar.

"You are going to make a call to whoever's in charge of you so that I can tell them what is happening. If you call anybody else, I will shoot you in front of all your countrymen here. Understood?" Bozhidar pushed the barrel of his gun into the stomach of the ambassador as he barked his orders at him.

Meanwhile, the metropolitan police of Progena had already begun to establish a perimeter all around the embassy, armed with the best equipment. The roads were blocked to prevent any civilians from putting themselves in danger, and news broadcasters had already assembled to report on the situation. Simeon Dragomir, a deputy assistant commissioner of the police, had set up an improvised command post in his squad car in front of the embassy. His first priority was to establish contact with the hostage takers with a field telephone, in order for negotiations to take place.
