A get a post up soonish. I'm also going semi-retcon something because I realised that my weapons, even if they are slightly FTL as they are literal beams of (sort-of) light, will probably take hours to hit their target as, well, star systems are quite large and there is probably at least 50 AU's between my fleet and Greholm. Expect a FTL jump.

Yeah, it takes minutes for light to reach Earth from the sun, so your retcon makes sense.

Appearance: Due to the radioactive elements of the worlds he usually travels to, Tom wears a heavy lead-pulled duster that completely covers his upper body and part of his lower body. His pants are lead-pulled as well. Advanced technology has allowed for the "pulling" or thinning of lead without losing the effects of its thickness. 1 mm of lead-pulled material is equivalent to about 12-inches of un-pulled lead. This allows him to literally wear lead as clothing. He has undergarments that stops the interaction of the lead with his exposed skin. When needed, he will wear an oxygen helmet with a large wide brim near the top to block sunlight. When not wearing the helmet, he will wear an old wide brimmed hat that blocks sunlight.

Biography: Thomas Gridiron was deputized at the age of 18 on his home planet of Dunemaker IX under Gordon Palk. When he was 30, he lost his father and mother to a group of native inhabitants dissatisfied with the current occupation of the ruling Frederickton Government. The government ran 30 systems in all and each had a governor under the president who sat on the homeworld. The occupation of Dunemaker IX was viewed with disgust from the alien population and they frequently raided villages on the planet. Thomas was never extremely close to his parents, but the natives killing his folks annoyed him to no extent. He appealed to Palk to take missions off planet, centering on the Firegrass drug ring, and was given clearance to operate. He was extremely efficient with breaking up the drug ring. However, he never was able to apprehend its leader, Carlos Mendez. His tact for tracking smugglers and dealers was second to none and he was ruthless with criminals once he located them. Palk knew all about the effectiveness and thought very highly of his deputy but tended to disagree with some of Gridiron's more "unique" methods of interrogation. Gridiron has become a vigilante in his own right, taking criminals out of the trade lanes with efficiency and cunning, sparing justice rarely.

If anything, I'll probably join Operation White Noise if that's possible.

So I was thinking of having Gridiron going in to investigate the crashed intel ship with a lead that there's info on the location of Mendez on it. So he may team up temporarily with a faction if it suits his needs, but I think he'll mostly stay neutral and try not to get caught up in the combat

thank you i posted a better one you can use if you want. im am upgradeing my UAIE space defences too since this is a space war a bit lol. do look over my armed forces if you can sometime. i dont see any issues, not sure though. ik its a lotta wip stuff lol.

Nature of State: confusing. Drake was a warlord in competition with Autarch Xhu, but since converting to Christianity in 2429 has taken a "you catch more flies with honey" approach to politics. This has allowed him to secure more or less uncontested control of the Deinos system, and all twelve planets in it. In 2437, he ordered the institution of a parliament, with the intent of establishing a system of checks and balanced where domestic policy is concerned, though he retains full control over foreign policy. I suppose you could call the current set up a "transitional constitutional semi-dictatorship."

Predominant Religion/Philosophy: Christian Imperialism. The extension of Deinosian hegemony through service. This can mean launching a Crusade against tyranny, but it can also mean hauling freight. The sizable fleet has nearly twice as much tonnage in merchant ships that carry food, medical supplies etc. throughout the sector as it does in actual warships.

Tech base: I'm planning on borrowing heavily from the canon of the Schlock Mercenary webcomic. So annie plants for power that convert matter into energy, "unifield" generators providing gravitic manipulation/shielding/engines, handheld plasma weapons, ftl "hypernet" communications, and the teraport hyperdrive (along with associated technology).

ORBAT:
1 Trinity-class hyperdreadnought (12 km long, 1x 8 km + 3x 1 km annie plants)
7 Charity-class battleplates (8 km on a side, 3x 1 km annie plants)

Man, how did a lore post end up taking almost four hours? I must be really slow.

Most of the inspiration is based on Battlestar Galatica and Firefly, if it wasn't obvious. Wanted to mix things up and yet not come up with something too new. I figured this would fit in with what everyone else was doing.

I'm likely going to flesh out the tactical security teams and how they're guarding the station in a bit, likely tomorrow.

Maybe wasn't a good idea to do that last and do lore stuff first.

Meanwhile, this gives you some idea where The Umbrous Sector is likely located, source is this video. I think Umbrous Sector is located somewhere between the center of the habitable zone for Beta Quadrent, and the location of the Losieda Constellation. Checking the largest and best map I've seen, "The Sector", where I live would be between two major and two minor trade lanes.

Either that or Umbrous Sector is actually in the other direction, of this large, somewhat outdated trade lane.

Just trying to figure out where this thing likely is, looks like it's somewhat vaguely close to one or more trade lanes, but it's about a dozen or stars from one.
