TRN Starts Maneuvers in East Magnostria, Largest In History

We have just received information that the Combined Strike Force of Tanayan Revolutionary Navy has started maneuvers "Magnostria-2020". They were planned to be conducted in December 2019 but with the unfolding situation in Oceanian Republic, the Military Council of TRN and the Central Executive Committee had decided to postpone the operation.

"Magnostria-2020" are to be the largest maneuvers in history of the Combined Strike Force. Participating are five aircraft carriers, 19 cruisers, 40 destroyers, 26 submarines and more than 400 aircraft and helicopters. Fleet will do combined search and destroy operations with the elements of the Air Army Sepura, maneuvering, artillery and missile firing and anti-air defense against an adversary with low radar visibility aircraft.

Internal sources close to the Presidium of the CEC state that the Chairman of the Presidium, Alexandra A. Stamboliyskaya, personally oversees the maneuvers from the board of the flagship of TRN, newly commissioned guided missile cruiser TRK-31 Miraj. The Combined Strike Force commander, Fleet Flagman 2nd Rank Vasiliy K. Lesjanin, did not support the claim and the Chairman was not available for contact.

TRN has already been active in East Magnostria, supporting Yashnagari socialists in Yashnagari Civil War of 1945-1980. Three aircraft carriers and two battleships were carrying out bombardment and air support against the forces of reaction contributed to the successes of our socialist comrades. According to the official communique of the Military Council of TRN: "Even though socialism have not been victorious in Yashnagar in 1960s, our navy has acquired experience and respect from the Party. Without it, the Navy would not be the Navy we know."

Tanayan Revolutionary Party and Tanayan Maximalist Revolutionary Party have issued a joint statement stating that the Worldwide Revolution is entering its second phase; that the socialists of Olympia, must be prepared accordingly; and that TSPR is ready to uphold their commitments and "push the wheel of the Revolution forward". "'Magnostria-2020' is to show the oppressed people of the South East Nori that TSPR is ready to support them in their quest for national and social liberation."

"Magnostria-2020" is expected to be going on for one week and end at 10.03.2020. COMFOR of TSPR, Anna N. Kalafatova, has already expressed concerns over international reaction.

"The area of maneuvers is close to the nations of SE Nori by all standards." She stated over a phone call. "You can get to Yuram or Botau from any point of it and return back. And we have deployed every single capital ship we have on these maneuvers, even our reserves. This is not a statement, this is a strong-worded manifesto ─ and I don't expect any kind words on this manifesto."

There was no comment on our question whether maneuvers or any underlying strategy were coordinated with COMFOR or not.

Vrijemena Tanaji will closely follow the events.

TRN Maneuvers call into question LunderMarine, Time to Increase Arms?

Laubenhugel Lunderfrau-
A Tanayan display of Naval Power in the Magnostria has stoked fears among Naval experts that the LunderMarine is severely underequipped to deal with foreign agressors. While the Exercises, taking place in the far off waters of the Magnostrai just off the coasts of Nori, are far enough away to be considered a trivial matter to Matrairchy officials, the sheer size of the participating fleet has many questioning if Lunderfrau is lagging behind in Maritime Defense.
The Tanayan Navy’s maneuvers in the Magnostria consisted of 5 Aircraft Carriers, 19 Cruisers, 40 Destroyers and 26 Submarines, a total of 90 vessels. By contrast, the current registry of Ships active in the LunderMarine is 56. By type, Lunderfrau has 4 Destroyers, 10 Air Defense Frigates, 36 Corvettes and 4 Submarines. LunderMarine Officials dismissed fears of lack of preparedness.
“It is true our Navy is not the largest in the world, but it is designed to best fit the needs of the Matriarchy. Our strength is in coordinated and overlapping defence systems designed to provide the ability to keep out foreign aggressors.” Said Admiral Kelsey Schrader. However not everyone is convinced of the LunderMarines preparedness.
“The issue isn’t whether the LunderMarine could beat back a small incursion into our territorial waters” state’s Naval Expert Claudette Krause. “The issue at hand is can the LunderMarine retaliate against large foreign fleets operating within or around our waters, that is not so clear cut. Currently the LunderMarines strategy for dealing with a sizeable enemy force is to let the Zanarite Navy run point and have them sweep the attackers away. That’s fine, so long as Zanaro continues to express a willingness to help secure Lunderfrausian waters and is not tied up in its own battles on the high seas.” Even the LunderMarine's own seem to have doubts on the branches effectiveness. A 2019 White Paper commissioned by the LunderMarine stated:
“At current ship and sailor staffing levels, the LunderMarine is restricted to playing a reduced role in the patrolling and enforcement of Lunderfraus EEZ and Territorial Waters. At current the LunderMarines ability to confront agressors such as Velkanika, TSPR or Oceania remains diminished and will require Zanarite cooperation to achieve.” The White Paper concluded by recommending an increase from 56 Active Warships to a minimum of 100 by 2030. At this time though, it does not appear as though the Matriarchy plans to expand the LunderMarine at this time, the developing situation in Tanaya may change that.

Magnostria 2020, what does it mean?

(M24) — The term Magnostria 2020 has been thrown around a lot in military circles this month, describing the large naval maneuvers undertaken by the Tanayan Socialist Peoples Republic's Revolutionary Navy, in the Eastern Magnostria. The maneuvers drew some attention both for the notable size of the undertaking, as well as their conspicuous position near the politically tense region of South Eastern Nori.

The maneuvers sparked a number of questions internationally, most prominently the question of whether offering resistance to the TRN in South Eastern Nori would even be feasible for many nations. For example, it is believed that some circles in Lunderfrau have advocated a near doubling of naval capacity in response to the maneuvers.

For Mèronie, the question is an uncomfortable one. The Federal Republic has firmly placed a stamp of interest in the region, both with economic influence throughout SE Nori as well as direct political influence over the Associated State, Ile de Taveteaux, which relies on Mèronie for defense matters among other things. The Mèron government has responded when asked in press briefings by insisting that this is a question for foreign affairs, rather than the military, and pointed to the success of detente in normalizing relations with the TSPR.

If a war were to break out, though, some analysts are worried. Mèronie's expansive naval and air bases in Taveteaux and the Foreign Legion bases throughout the region give the Mèron Armed Forces a better position than many to resist an assault on the region, but sheer numbers analysis indicates that the Marine National and the Armee de l'Air will struggle to keep up with Tanayan Counterparts. The Armee de l'Air has acknowledged a potential avenue for future purchase of Carelian aircraft, but has not acknowledged any existing numbers deficiency.

The Marine National, under Admiral Badeaux, issued a more direct press briefing, which did little to sugarcoat the situation. In their analysis it was noted that the Marine National's surface fleet, while adequate for current use in power projection overseas, would not be a viable opposition to the TRN. The Admiral highlighted the Marine National's strong capacity for submarine warfare as a countermeasure to "letting the Tanayans run rampant" but acknowledged that most surface activities would likely have to cease.

The recent confirmation of funding for the long-running Jaubert-Class Aircraft Carrier program in the most recent round of military funding came just a week after the beginning of Magnostria 2020 maneuvers and is believed to have been a deciding factor. However, the bulk of new funding for Marine National has continued to be directed towards small surface crafts and submarine warfare.

Some foreign affairs analysts working with the military have indicated that this is a potential area for strategic cooperation with other nations, highlighting Zanaro as a potential partner; the gradually democratizing state has been singled out as a potential naval kingpin in the Nori region. The Mèron government has not acknowledged any effort to establish military cooperation with other parties in Nori in reaction to the Magnostria 2020 maneuvers, and has insisted that a calm and measured response (or in fact, a lack thereof) is the only reasonable answer.

Massive Socialist Tanayan

Naval Maneuvers Underway

In Magnostrian Ocean,

SE Nori in Danger

"[Magnostria 2020] is a testament to the ever growing, and far reaching, threat of the IRP. Zanaro is to blame for IRP's capability to pull this off in their backyard..." - First Admiral Walter Romolo di Giambattista when asked to comment on the situation.

dockyard near Carrara, Massa in February, 2020.
In the form of an impressive show of naval prowess, the Tanaya Soviet People's Republic (TSPR) took major strides this week in furthering their political agenda in the Southeast Nori region. This past week, the Tanayan Revolutionary Navy (TRN) began the largest maneuvers in the history of their fleet; displaying a formidable armada of five aircraft carriers, 19 cruisers, 40 destroyers, 26 submarines and accompanied with 400 aircraft and helicopters. The tremendously apparent show of force, dubbed 'Magnostria 2020', brings to question what exactly is the goal behind this and what is the intentions of TSPR?

The Mukal nation is a prominent member of the International Revolutionary Pact (IRP), alongside Velkanika and several other nations. The People's Republic of Sepura, a small oil producing, island dictatorship in the Melian Channel of SE Nori is also a signatory of IRP. Sepura currently houses over 2,000 aircraft belonging to the TSPR; a force which comprises upwards to half of the nation's air force, designated Air Army Sepura. Elements of Air Army Sepura are confirmed to be linking up with the Magnostria 2020 fleet and participating in portions of the maneuvers. This imposing detachment of the TRN, the Combined Strike Force, is a serious contender when compared to the navies of nations local to the region that the maneuvers are being hosted. The Combined Strike Force when paired with Air Army Sepura, and not including the sizable Sepuranese navy, presents a force that can compete with, if not outgun, even some of the most impressive navies in the Magnostrian Ocean.

Many analysts and political think tanks have prescribed this movement as some sort of power display at best, or a heavy handed bullying approach to diplomacy at worst. The government of TSPR, and the rest of IRP, has many interests in the region, specifically in Sepura which has become increasingly unstable since the devastating Cyclone Yue in December 2019. The TRN and other Tanayan representatives have stated that 'Magnostria 2020' is purely training and that there are no ill intentions. For the time being it is believed there is not any foreseeable conflict in the targeted region, nor is there significant evidence to suspect that this deployment will result in any military actions. Tense relations between Tok Mons and Jashnagar, other SE Nori nations, and IRP does raise some doubt and concern, however, as to whether these maneuvers are entirely peaceful in purpose.

Concerns of this powerful display have been widespread, efforts made by governments worldwide to react in some way. The potential of a conflict between TSPR and one of the nations they are attempting to frighten into submission has weighed heavy. While nowhere near the zone of these maneuvers, Liran nations have observed the situation closely. News of naval upgrades and increased production in Lunderfrau and Meronie has been announced. In Parthonopia, King Carlo's administrators over the fledgling navy here have kept a close eye on these events. Since the formation of the Commonwealth in 2014 there has been an effort to build and establish a Parthonopian fleet. Several surface vessels were purchased from Zanaro and construction on several more of different variants were underway by 2015. The Wintonian blockade that began in 2016 and lasted until July 2019 prevented any further ship purchases and construction was put on halt.

Since the lift of the blockade, and the promotion of Walter Romolo di Giambattista to First Admiral, the supreme commander of the Parthonopian Navy, construction has resumed and the fleet has been upgraded to a respectable standard. First Admiral di Giambattista has pursued a doctrine of a focus on the output of smaller surface vessels such as destroyers, a strong coastal patrol fleet, and an expansive amount of submarines. To highlight the dire need of funding and focus on the incredible task of building a navy from scratch, di Giambattista has used the TNR maneuvers as an example as to what Parthonopia could face. While a fleet of similar size and capability would be impossible for the Kingdom to produce, the First Admiral stressed that some minor advances and expenses could place the navy on some level ground.
