Denecaep Election IC Thread (Semi-open, MT)

Postby Denecaep » Mon Apr 26, 2010 7:26 pm

(OOC: Telegram me if you want a role such as a reporter, moderator, or something along those lines. If you want to be a vice presidential candidate, telegram one of the presidential candidates.)

The age of the Oompa-Loompa President was over, and the Repredirect NeoDemocracy of Denecaep was ready for change, for a new era. Moop Trooman had been a fair and good president, with an approval rate of 74%. Many citizens didn't really feel they had much to lose at all, that things could only get better. For the past nine years under Moop Trooman, the nation had been relatively peaceful, and though there were ups and downs, Denecaep had prospered economically. This is why Moop Trooman had filled out the maximum of his three, three-year terms. But citizens remembered times not as perfect. They remembered the President Richard Billson, who had also managed three terms, since he was always met with an easy to beat radical. Billson, who came before Trooman, had pushed the same economic policies as Trooman, but did it in a way that caused Denecaep's economy to plummet. So many jobs were lost during Billson's time.
Since they had gone nine years under Trooman, the whole nation was pretty happy. Many citizens pushed for term increases, but it was not able to pass Congress.
Citizens started to face facts: Election time was coming, whether they were ready or not.
The primaries had been easy, not fierce, and with pretty low voter turnout, because there wasn't much competition. The Republican, the Democrat, and the Independent Candidates for this election had all been nominated with over 85% of their party's vote.

Republican- William Fredericks
Democrat- Jennifer Hollander
Independent- Julius Reed

Six months until the general election. It was a lot of time. Too much time.

(To all Candidate RPers: Go ahead and start roleplaying the campaigning. In addition to the candidates, you also have some control over your campaigning team, such as speakers and advisors. You do have someone to convince! ME! If you have any questions about Denecaep, just ask me. I will be the one setting up debates and such, so don't worry about that.)

"I, Julius Reed consider myself well versed in the law but I have never been so far up on capitol hill that I forgot exactly how it feels to get hit when something gets done. Now I believe in a new age, an age where disagreements don't have to come to blows. Where posturing aggressively isn't the first response to something you don't understand. Now I served in the military and I have no problem bringing the fight to the man that wants to disrupt the peace but there ain't a damn reason to start petty wars over nuthin'! I love our troops and if elected I would consider it my perosnal duty by decision of the majority to serve these men first and not waste their lives in conflict. No country can advance while making enemies on all fronts and that is why I believe Denecaep must permit national sovereignty, I disagree with many things but I am not willing to get good men killed for my morality and I don't think anybody should be. One day I see this great nation as one of untold prosperity, looked at as a benchmark for it's economic standing, it's freedom, and the hand it extends to it's fallen bretheren. I can't tell you what my opponents say, I don't have that abillity or that right, but I can tell you I will fight harder than any force in heaven or hell to serve YOU!"

Jennifer Hollander had assembled her incomplete campaign team (OOC: If anyone wanna join the democrats you will be more than welcome)
"Ladies and gentlemen." She began, "we have a lot of work to do. We need to get out and meet the man on the floor and persuay him to vote democratic. Now i will go deliever a speech to my supporters. I suggest that you begin examining different VP posibilities and fill out the remaining posts in our campaign administration."
Jennifer Hollander left her advisors to address those voters that had attended the rally that would mark the formal begining of the democratic election campaign.
"Friends and comrades. Today marks the begining of our campaign for the presidency." she said to cheerfull shouts from the crowd.
"First of all i would like to thank President Trooman." (applause) "Thank you mr. President, for saving Denecaep from economic disaster. Thank you for leading us through the hard times. Thank you for everything. We owe you alot." Jennifer paused and looked at her supporters. "My friends. Our economy blossoms. Yet There are those who speaks of tax cuts for millionaires. True high taxes is not a good thing. But lets not forget all of those less fortunate then the leaders of the fortune 500 corporations." (applause) "If you chose me to lead you for the next three years I will make sure that the succesfull economic policy of President Trooman is followed while securing that our less fortunate citizens doesn't starve to dead in our streets. The budget for this year shows that less than 300 USD is spend per citizen on Social welfare. Is that fair?" ("no" shouts) "I thank you for listening to me. I look forward to get to know you, and give you a chance to learn more about me. My name is Jennifer Hollander, and i am here to be your next president." Jennifer left the stage to the applause of her party members. There was a lot of work to be done.

Denecaep's election system is very similar to that of the US, with some major differences.
Denecaep used to have states, but so many changes were made so frequently, that the division by states was given up.
Instead, each "state" is called a "diameter" when it comes to elections. All the cities have a diameter based on their population that their city's electoral votes include and come from, and represent. In simplified wording, each CITY has electoral votes it casts based on representatives. To win the presidency, you need 300 electoral votes.

Also, with the presidency, terms are three-years long, with a max of three terms.

I don't know where you got Rachel Bilson from... it is Richard Billson.

Anyway, to answer your question, both Moop Trooman and Richard Billson were Democrats. Denecaep has been under Democrat presidents for a while because Denecaep is pretty liberal. They've seen good Democrats and bad Democrats, and a few Republicans inbetween. Because of this frequency, there has even been talk about the Democratic party splitting into two parties.

Now, this doesn't mean that the Republican cannot win, because Republicans have been growing rapidly recently. In the last election, Moop Trooman only won by a small margin.

OOC:  I was certain that it said Rachel. Funny how you can completely misread something like that. At least that explains how a male president could have a female name

P.S. Could i make Jennifer Hollander Senator?

IC:
1. Increase welfare spending
The Hollander-(VP) ticket will increase the spending on public welfare by 25 % during our first term. This will not lead to tax cut as the money will be taken from other sectors. Welfare spending is vital, as a nation is only as good as it treats the worst off, of its citizens.
2. Cut down on law and order spending
More than two and a half trillion USD is spend every year on law and order. This is more than anyother sector and is 27 % of the total state budget. Crime is virtually non existant and therefore this is to much money to spend on something that isn't a problem. As we increase the welfare spending we will decrease the law and order spending. The two things is also related as increased welfare will decrease the need for people to commit crimes in order to make a living.
3. Make Denecaeps economy capeable of growing in the future
We need to invest in the industries of the future. As traditional industries are moved to third world countries we need to find something else to drive our economy in the future. We need to invest in green technology, an area where Denecaep is in front and has a natural advantage to other countries. This will not only be good to the environment but also to the economy.
4. A strict yet fair migration policy
Denecaep must not turn its back on those people in need. We are however not a to allow migrants from foreign countries to settle here and live on our tax payers money. We need to make sure that those migrants that come here know how to do their job. We want to establish a new mindset among our migrant population. They got to know that we want them here. But they most also face the fact that we expect them to earn their place in denecaepian society.

"This is what we got so far. A bit rough and not very elaborate but I hope you like it." A member of the campaign staff said as the candidate was doen reading.
"It sounds great." she replied.
"Of course we need to elaborate on them and add some more but for now it seems good."

William Fredericks awoke from his deep slumber. The light of the sun bathed his home with a golden wash. His eyes burned with the slight intensity of light, as he rubbed them awake. He grasped the hair sat upon his head, rubbing it as his hands sifted down to his neck. He streched and pondered the day yet to come.

Other candiates had already started their running, and he was a late-comer to the show. Creeking down the steps of his home, he poured a large glass of coffee before retreating to the layer which was his room. Sipping the liquid in gulps and intervals he quickly threw his suit on before jolting down the stairs.

A realization consumed him as he looked at the clock and noted his tardiness. Out the door he pactically ran as he lit the truck to life. Slightly speeding down the road, he began the campaign. As he narrowly avoided traffic, he managed to slip into the park his first area. A crowd was already assembling, and he slyly parked the truck out of view before nearing the area to begin.

As he just barely reached the back of the small make-shift stage, a staff member announced his comming, "Ladies and gentlemen assembled, I now present to you, candidate for President, William Fredericks!" A thunderous applause alluded the suspected man upon the stage. He walked out on the steel as he waved at the crowd of supporters.

"Ladies and gentlemen," he began, "I am not here, as a man of a party line. I am not here as a man who will bend to the whims of what the government wants at a given. I am not a man to compromise on issues and morality, that I know reign supreme. Nay I say, I am a man of principle. I am a man of determination. I am a man of moral standing to comprehend the larger will of the people and political process.

The last years have been rocky, and at the same point full of successes. I respect Mr. Trooman for his services. However, I must point out his failures. He's increased the budget massively. He's helped in the process of increasing the size of the national government far beyond acceptable levels. These policies are unacceptable by any sane human being.

Government's responsibility to provide for a better state and to protect us from one-another to equal law and justice. Where government has gone beyond this is where the beginnings of tyranny take hold. That government which is large enough to provide you everything you need, is large enough to take everything away!"

A roar of applaus and cheers broke through the souls of the many assembled as their sonorous cheers pierced many and concluded a rush of agreeance with the candidate's speech.

"Taxes have been levied in quick succession with no recourse of showing an end. The welfare state has shown massive increases. The private sector is not given any freedom in their intentions. The exploitation of resources, that are instead protected are leading to the current exchange rate, for example, which lags behind in the global economy! We must deflate the Deimocoims! We must not squeeze the life out of industry! We must not allow the GDP per capita to fall any lower by implementing new regulations against the private industry!"

Another roar of applause raged as the candidate continued,

"My final state, at this moment, will be these solomn words. The military is underfunded. Crime is still detrimental and increasing. Welfare has reached unacceptable levels. The blood of industry is being squeezed and business is being battered. The average person makes little. And the state is unable to surpress itself from reaching a higher level. And government is becoming a massive entity that is reaching beyond its proper power. Morality is being squeezed out of many. And I love Denecaep with every fiber of my being. But Denecaep's liberal government is squeezing the life out of this great country. I will see to it that we make this nation a crisp fruitful apple once again.

Thank you ladied and gentlmen, and God bless Denecaep."

At a town hall in his home town Joe Schultz was asked why he supported William Fredericks. He responded with the following speech.:

"I support him because I believe that Government has grown way out of it's reasonable responsibilities. I believe that it will be a brighter day in Denecaep under his leader ship a day where a mother doesn't have to worry about feeding her children because of being over-taxed and over-regulated.

Taxes are way too high in this nation now his enemies will say that these tax cut he's proposing will only help the rich. But that is in no way true he will not only cut taxes for you but the tax cuts for the rich will help the middle class too. The middle and lower class will get double the benefit from these tax cuts." said Joe

The Hollander campaign was launching a massive internet campaign with the candidate making youtube videos, blogs forum debates etc. They hoped that this would make young people come out and vote and preferably for Jennifer Hollander. The campaign team hoped to make, low income households, women, racial and sexual minorities, liberals, old people and young people part of the democratic base.
One of the most watched youtube videos showed Hollander saying this:

"My fellow denecaepians. I am senator Jennifer Hollander of Troo and I am here to ask you for the presidency. I love my country and i would hate to see the wrong people elected for the highest office in our country. All respect to mr. Reed and Fredericks. They are both great men that are an invaluable ressource for our country. But are they the ones you wish to run your country? Well i hope that you can see that their policies are not what our country needs. I look forward to the next 6 months and I hope that you will all come out and vote fat the election. The low voter turnout at the primaries of all candidates was a disgrace to our proud democracy. If you don't vote the politicians wont help you. So go vote and God bless you all."

"Well we have made this list of criterias for a VP candidate senator." A senior campaign advisor said
"Good what does it say?" Hollander replied
"Well obviously it has to be a man. Two women on the same ticket would be suicide no matter how many feminists vote for us."
Obviously"
"He also has to be a man of the people. You are after all quite elitst and intellectual senator, and many of our core voters might vote for Mr. Reed who as far as we can tell is much more of a populist. Many of our voters are after all quite poor and uneducated and can easily feel threatened by you. We therefore need an, "Average Joe" so to speak, that people can relate too."
Another campaign advisor interrupted.
"He also needs to be capeable of fighting the opponents so that you can act all presidential and world leader like."
"And he must be appealing to the traditional democratic voters as your own stance is a bit to much too the right."
"Excellent. So what candidates have you found" Hollander said with a smile.
The advisors looked at each other in surprise to the question. Then one of them answer.
"Well. None as of yet."
The senators smile immediately vanished.
"Well what are you doing here then. Go find all suitable candidates at once. We need a VP candidate."
"Yes senator."

At a rally in the Diameter of Troo one of Senator Hollander's supporters, Carl Milton, was introducing Hollander's newly made welfare policy under the slogan "Do your duty, claim your right.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I am here to tell you about Senator Jennifer Hollander's social policy." Milton began
"I am not going to hold a long speech but will instead simply sumarize the policy and then let you ask questions. First of all i would like to assure you that senator Hollander doesn't plan on increasing taxes to finance a more fair social policy. The plan of senator Hollander is to give help to those who really needs it. Not giving welfare money to every lazy low life in the country. Do your duty, claim your right means that when the state gives aid it has to get something back. Those who are reliant on welfare shall have it but it shall be given only if the receiver do his or her best to get a job and not relly on the state for money. Now there are of course people who can't work. These people must still be taken care of. But many of those who relly on welfare can work and should therefore work. We won’t take welfare away from them but we will instead organize the welfare in such a way that it gives as much incentive as possible to get a job. Now this was the policy in short. Are there any questions?"

Some current policies of Denecaep:
Taxes: They change all the time, however they have been gradually staying low recently.
Abortion: Congress officially legalized abortion a long time ago, however certain restrictions have also been made since then, such as the fact that abortions are not legal in the ninth month. Republicans have also passed laws making it to where abortions require lots of paperwork now, and it is not simple to set up.
Energy: For the last fifteen years Denecaep has been famous for having more than half of its energy come from clean sources. The only real debate about energy in Denecaep is whether to use nuclear power. Currently there are some plants, but not that many.
Immigration: Immigration is extremely easy, so much so that illegal immigration isn't even an issue, because there would be no reason to do it illegally, it is much easier to do it legally.

I will give you more info if you can tell me specifically which policies you are looking for.

Jennifer Hollander was speaking at a college in the capital hoping to increase her approval ratings among young people.
"The education system of our great nation is one of the best in the world. I don't know about you, but I would like to keep it that way." laughter) "However, not all of our policies fare as well as the education policy. We must increase welfare spending. Denecaep is a rich country with a growing economy. We owe it to ourselves not to let our less fortunate citizens be impoverished."

"Almost a third of the voters will vote for you senator" Carl Milton announced giving the candidate a thumbs up before she went on stage at a rally in Apolloton.
Jennifer waved to the cheering crowds.
"Thank you. Thank you. Thank you." she said while the applause slowly died out. "Today I am going to talk to you about two things. Taxes and welfare. Some would probarbly say that a lot of one of them means a lot of both of them. That is however not neccesarily the case. I know that many of you are concerned about the impact increased welfare spending will have on the taxation niveau in our country. That is however not neccesarily the case. I will not just increase the spending on welfare. I will redirect it in ways that will give working class people incentives to get jobs and provide for themselves instead of rellying on the government. Do your duty, claim your right. The social policy i have suggested will decrease poverty and thus lower crime rates. Therefore the increases in welfare spending can be balanced out in the decrease of law and order spending. And not only balanced out. The decrease in law and order spending will be so great that we can lower the taxes to 20 % total while still enjoying greater welfare than ever before. I am senator Jennifer Hollander from Troo and i wanna be your president." (applause)

"Therefore i have chosen Carl Milton as my running mate in this election." Senator Hollander announced to the applause of the voters.
"Carl Milton is a true patriot, and a supporter of the little man. Milton is born to a working class family and has worked his way to the top and I am confident that he will make a fine Vice-President." Hollander and Milton hugs to the cheers of the crowd.

Okay guys, I apologize, but since not everyone is going to be active enough, I'm just going to skip this and instead pretend it already happened and roleplay a winner.

Thanks for being active when you could.
