Brique Island Declares Peace

Postby Brique Island » Mon Apr 26, 2010 11:47 am

The People of Brique Island, seeing the many and frequent wars and conflicts going on has taken the step to unanimously and magnanimously declare peace on everybody. While we do not expect the more warlike among you to actually listen to reason to the words of peace and personhood, we have taken the steps of completely disbanding our military, unilateral disarmament, to serve as an example of how nations should interact.

peace is the way, and sharing is the result.

For a better world!

A note to coffee snobs everywhere - Do we applaud fair-trade, sustainable farmed, shade-grown joe? Sure. Why not? But when we sit down to a cup of coffee in the morning, we are not particularly interested in the blueberry, caramel, or tomato soup nuances a dedicated roaster can coax out of a bean, nor in the intricate ballet of the four-minute pour-over or the Eva Solo flagon. We want coffee that tastes like coffee, and we want it now.

We shall be hosting a "Let peace Be What You Want" seminar soon. All national leaders who wish to learn the ways of peace are encouraged to attend. Peace brings prosperity, war brings a mess.

We feel sorrow for those who scoff at the ways of peaceful coexistance and who threaten military solutions to an issue not even at hand. We can see no reason for any militaristic empire to feel threatened enough to invade as we wish to only live in peace and harmony with everybody regardless of their politics and to trade goods, stories and laughter with the world.

May the Peace of the Eternal be with you in your quest for truth.

While we frequently scoff at the ways of our somewhat naive and misguided neighbors, rest assured that we shall defend their nation, whether they like it or not, from all who try to conquer or take advantage of them.

Peace is ok. But please remember this in the future. You will go through war and strife. Your nation will be oppressed to the point of people killing themselves. But for now your ok. If anyone threatens you let me know.

Besides the fact that those are all small insignificant nations with no natural resources whatsoever, most if not all of them either have treaties with nations that do have a military, are under the protection of a nation that has a military, or has a small defence force or paramilitary force.

The Kandarin Federation hears your declaration of peace, and declares peace right back at you. Now that the ultimatum has been made, we are preparing to wage total peace upon you, with all the resources that our mighty nation can bring to bear. Few nations in this world have as great of a peacemaking capacity as we, and we are prepared to exercise it in a peace the likes of which the world has not yet seen. However, we offer you a choice: Shall it be nuclear peace, biological peace, chemical peace, or conventional peace?

Well, a goodly number of our citizenry may well opt for the "chemical" peace, but overall we believe that biological may be the best for us. We can send many fine biological plant byproducts (exotic fruits, vegetables, rice) as well as many formerly living biological units (fish, shellfish, pork products). We hope that is not too aggressive of us to make such threats with the biological portion.

ATTENTION: Brique Island

The Greater New Nicksyllvanian Empire respects your administrations decision to disband its military in the interests of peace. While honour and glory can be earned through blood, ceaseless conflicts are only damaging to nations.

Hence we offer full protection to the Brisque island and their administration, in the form of a protectorate agreement. This treaty will include a free trade clause and will also lead to a Nicksyllvanian military base will be established for the defence of your nation against aggressors.

Should you refuse our most generous and sensible treaty, then for the protection of your nation against international aggressors that seek to annex your small nation for their own benefit, we shall instead occupy and safeguard your peoples, and establish a more sensible government.

Lord Adorth vorn Schillsky, Grand Kommissariat of the Imperial Ministry of Foreign Intelligence

We thank you for your consideration, however, we must decline your offer to make us a protectorate or to station military forces on our island. This is indeed very generous of your nation to put this forth. Given the size of our nation though (127 miles x 88 miles) we do not believe that we can give up the arable land required to permit a military installation.

While we are ardent pacifists, we are not naive, and have defense agreements in place with two major powers already and have had our independence guaranteed by another major power.

New Nicksyllvanian citizens, however, are more than welcome to come and avail themselves of our fine tourist facilities and locales.

Brique Island is under our protection already. Unlike some, we do not feel the need to make them a "protectorate", nor do we need to occupy them. Our diplomacy is carried out through negotiation, not threats. We do realize that we are not counted among the "super-powers", but we do have the silent backing of a nation who truly is among that grouping, one who also would look unkindly upon any who try to take advantage of our peaceful neighbors.

Given their proximity to our own nation, we take any threats to them seriously.

We find it quite disturbing that so many have begun lining up to take advantage of and/or invade a nation which has done nothing more than declare a desire for peaceful relations. In that light, The Kingdom and Commonwealth would oppose any who try to follow through on their threats, either overt or implied.

We thank you for your kind offer, however, we must at this time turn down any and all offers of becoming a protectorate of anybody as we have seen how that can sometimes escalate into occupation and colonial status, two options we are loath to try. We have been occupied once before in our history (1882-1927) and did not much enjoy it, so we wish to avoid that again. We believe that our policies of peace, friendship and tourism are sufficient to maintain our independence and security.

BRIQUE ISLAND FACTBOOK

A note to coffee snobs everywhere - Do we applaud fair-trade, sustainable farmed, shade-grown joe? Sure. Why not? But when we sit down to a cup of coffee in the morning, we are not particularly interested in the blueberry, caramel, or tomato soup nuances a dedicated roaster can coax out of a bean, nor in the intricate ballet of the four-minute pour-over or the Eva Solo flagon. We want coffee that tastes like coffee, and we want it now.

Though the Castigonian Empire is, obviously, imperialist, we only invade nations when they threaten us or we feel that we are required to. With your nation, however, we will keep a watchful eye for those who want to try any funny business.
