For nearly a decade, the nation of Karifistan has been under the rule of Emir Nasser Alizai. Ever since Nasser came into power after the death of his father, Asfand Alizai, the country has been rifted by civil unrest. Despite years of simmering tensions never was there anything more than public protests and small riots which were easily quelled with limited casualties and damages. Months ago that changed when anti-Alizai rebels, militants, and Islamic extremists banded together into a guerilla force committed to topling Nasser Alizai from power.
Initially, the “rebellion” was little more than farmers and goat herders pelting the Civil Guard with antique rifles and pipe bombs. Emir Alizai ordered the Karifistani Civil Guard (KCG) to come down hard on the insurgents, this however backfired as the mass arrests and executions only bolstered rebel sympathy across the nation. Months later, the guerillas have begun organizing themselves and launching coordinated attacks against military facilities and government property.
Recent reports have also suggested that a PMC is giving the rebels support, though this is unverified. So far, the conflict has remained in the northern Quazir region. However, recently there have been a number of bombings and mass shootings in the cities’ of Arkatesh and Nahariim, leading to increased security in all major cities across the nation. Military checkpoints, search-and-seizings, and a sunset curfew in smaller towns and villages.
Despite tripled efforts against the insurgence, rebel numbers continue to grow by leaps and bounds and the conflict continues to rise in both casualties and damages. Aside from the unconfirmed rumors of mercenary involvement, the civil war has yet to gain international involvement. Although political and military analysts say this will soon change. After all, Karifistan is a notable exporter of oil and petroleum.
With the conflict worsening by the week and a steady increase of bombings and mass shootings, military intervention in the Emirate may be necessary to ensure a return to peace and end the National conflict.
