Imperial Condemnation of 'Nuclear Island' - Ultimatum Issued

The Imperial Koalition condemns the creation and use of this island as a nuclear testing site. The North Atlantic, comprised almost exclusively of international - non-propertied waters, is the shared territory of all mankind. The construction of this island is an abomination, and its use even more diabolic. Nuclear weapons are not toys, and Comaack has proven itself to be unfit for possession of such weapons. We demand the island be uninhabited immediately. Trade routes and shipping lanes in the North Atlantic are completely disrupted due to the foolish actions of Comaack, and Kroandon shipping, as well as the shipping and transit of the entire world is threatened by the Bolshevik actions. Irradiating the waters of the North Atlantic will spread illness and death across the globe. The Imperial Koalition demands immediately this island be abandoned, and forfeit to Kroandon authorities for its immediate demolition and cleaning. The 7th Fleet is enroute to the islands destination. All contracts issued by the Nuka company shall be revoked immediately under penalty of military strikes against those nations whom continue to test nuclear weapons on the island. This blatant militarism shall be put to an end. Negotiations regarding the nuclear disarmament of Comaack shall ensue as soon as the island is surrendered.

Official Statement

The Armed Republic of Salzland, as a Northern Atlantic nation, vehemently condemns the large-scale atmospheric nuclear testing being proposed for, and already conducted on this so-called 'Nuclear Island.' Fallout concerns alone make these nuclear detonations a serious health and national security risk to the Armed Republic, and to its military and civilian shipping interests. The fact that intact, large-scale strategic nuclear weapons have already been detonated frighteningly close to Salzland is itself bordering on an outright act of war. Further detonations of nuclear weapons on, below, or near this island will be considered an Act of War.

The Armed Republic wishes to announce its full support for the Imperial Koalition of Kroando's plan to seize this island and halt all nuclear testing there. Elements of the Salzland Navy and Air Force are being detailed to co-ordinate with the Kroandos. Any use of Weapons of Mass Destruction against forces belonging to the Armed Republic will be responded to in kind.

Following increasing unrest within its sphere of influence, the Technocratic Federation of Marispatria is seeking to expand its tactical nuclear capabilities. To this end, the Military Research Sequence has been tasked with developing and testing new designs of nuclear warheads for the Marispatrian Navy's 16" guns. The Military Research Sequence hereby requests the use of a testing area suitable for boosted fission weapons in the 25-50kt yield range, for a period of no more than 7 days.

The Technocratic Federation of Marispatria also wishes to make it known that it is willing to commit to the defence of nation-states' sovereign right to develop and test weaponry, and frowns upon attempts at intimidation by saber-rattling nations.

We did, however, take offense to such unreasonably large and powerful weapons being detonated close to Salzland, and within range of its shipping lanes.

To the Technocratic Federation of Marispatria, the Armed Republic wishes to pose the following question. Should Salzland begin detonating 20+ megaton nuclear weapons, each of which would produce dangerous and damaging blast effects noticable over hundreds of miles, above-ground where fallout would not be controlled in any way, in a location where it would pose serious threats to your nation's security and well being, would you not take offense? We suspect that you would take offense to such testing.

If not, then we will be happy to begin testing strategic megaton-scale nuclear weapons of our own along sea lanes and near the costal territories of your nation. After all, your nation would not want to appear hypocritical by condeming the Armed Republic's "sovereign right to develop and test weaponry" in the face of "intimidation by [a] saber-rattling nation," would you? Marispatria was not previously of any Salzlandic presence in the North Atlantic, and has recieved no official complaints from nations known to reside there. However, since the test site has subsequently been moved, Marispatria feels the issue to be a moot point.

IC: The Armed Republic again thanks Comaack for relocating its nuclear testing sites, and wishes to decline the offered site on the grounds that the Armed Republic is not presently testing nuclear weapons.

The United Socialist States of the Northern Baltic, as a leading member in the United Worker's Republic Defensive Alliance, hereby condemns the creation of a new nuclear test site. Studies have linked an increasing cancer epidemic to the hundreds of nuclear tests, both below and above ground, and by creating a new test site, we feel Comaack is ignoring the lives that could be lost. We also feel that the creation of a nuclear test site serves as an expansion of the Capitalist war machine that will eventually, if allowed to remain unchecked, result in the world's destruction. We would like to finally issue a stern warning to the nation of Comaack suggesting that they dismantle their nuclear tests before further action has to be taken.

The Technocratic Federation of Marispatria wishes to announce that its nuclear tests were a resounding success, and that the new tactical warheads will be put straight into production. As part of the 24th Five Year Plan's objective of improving the Marispatrian economy, Marispatria wishes it to be known that the External Aqcuisition Sequence has been granted a licence to sell a number of the new warheads to interested parties, subsequent to a satisfactory consultation.

The Military Research Sequence, while adequately provisioned, still has limited resources. Consquently, the MRS has been authorised to conduct joint research with the relevant scientific and military subdivisions of external parties, with a focus on nuclear depth charges and nuclear-tipped torpedos.

As for stuff like nation locations, and that kind of thing, some countries have Factbooks (I am, unfortunately, too lazy to do one) that provide that sort of information, while in other cases the best thing is to ask them if you're unsure, generally via an OOC post or a private telegram. If you have any further questions, feel free to drop me a telegram and I'll get back to you ASAP, so we don't clutter Comaack's thread with off-topic discussions.
