The Mega War
A WW2 RP by the Mega Server RP Group. OOC.

WAR! Conflict inescapable! Almost 22 years after the end of the "War to End All Wars", the world once more finds itself at the brink of global conflict. Virtually every country is involved, and divided between two main military alliances: the Axis Powers and the United Nations.

In Europe, Germany is led by Adolf Hitler as it invades the Prussian-Polish Commonwealth; allied with Fascist Italy, which is led by Benito Mussolini. In Southeast Asia, Bruneian Malaya has begun an invasion of the small Catholic nation known as Pagarayung; once a Spanish colony long claimed by the sultanate as its own territory. In East Asia, China fears Japanese aggression. In Hindustan, the people sing a song of angry men against the reign of the British Empire.

All around the world, are revolutions, invasions, and interventions; there is conflict inescapable in a war that will decide who rules the world with which ideology for decades to come.

Rules
  • This is not a shitpost RP. Take it at the very least semi-seriously.
  • I am not technically OP, but OP's Word is Law rule applies with OP referring to the collective consensus of core members of the Mega Server.
  • You must apply and be accepted to participate in this RP.
  • No godmodding.
  • No metagaming. Yes, we know that you know how WW2 goes and ends; but the nation you're roleplaying shouldn't know how it goes or ends.
  • To see if you read the rules, type "Fard is dead" or alternatively, any inside-joke from Midas, at the end of your app.
  • Rules may be modified in the future.
Europe
In a horrific move, Germany under the leadership of Adolf Hitler invaded the Prussian-Polish Commonwealth! With the Western half of the PPC under German occupation, the government along with its monarchy has fled into exile; leaving behind small pockets of resistance. In response, the Gagiumish Empire has declared war upon Germany; after demanding Nazi Germany to evacuate the Prussian-Polish Commonwealth to no avail. For now however, it is a phony war; with no true action between either side.

Southeast Asia
Long coveted by the Kesultanan Besar, Pagarayung was once a Malay kingdom that had been conquered and colonized by the Spanish Empire. Now, after gaining "independence", it was free for the taking; as Bruneian Malaya commenced its invasion of the disputed territory in order to "de-Christianize, re-Islamize, and reunify" Pagarayung. Planes blocked the sky, as infantry and infantry support tanks charged into West Sumatra; while a small fleet headed by a battleship blockaded Mentawai and West Sumatra.

Gagiumish India
Long had the empire reigned over its crown jewel, but now the winds were changing; and revolution was in the air. Hindustan yearned for it's liberty, coveted and deprived. Now, the Hindustanis sung songs of angry men, a people who will not be slaves again.

Potens, Aureumterra
Emperor Niels IV sat at the head of a table, surrounded by advisors. His father, before his death, had transformed Aureumterra completely, Emperor Erik II had decided to combat the increasing corruption in the parliament himself, by abolishing it. The move was met with mixed reactions from the public, however, the general consensus was the same all around, the politicians had sold out to lobbyists and mining corporations. As such, the monarch was ironically seems as a symbol of the people. Of course, disgruntled MPs, many of whom had disproportionate power over the government of the Empire did not go down without a fight. In response, the Emperor simply purged them in a horrific massacre, the public had mixed reactions to this again, yet any dissent was quickly quelled by the monarch who took control of the police force and military personally. Then Emperor Erik died.

Aureumterra has come to a crossroad with his son. Many Democrats, as the faction had been known to be, hoped he would reestablish the parliament, yet all his advisers were hardcore monarchists who advised against him giving up any power, as power lost by him would mean power lost by them. The rise of Hitler didn’t help things either, of course he viewed Nords as model Aryans, yet many Aureumterrans were firmly against his radical policies.

“We won’t do anything right now, but we will state our opposition to this man.” The Emperor ordered.

Pagarayung, Sumatra
Pagarayung had long been coveted by Bruneian Malaya, ever since the Spaniards had conquered and colonized the small Malay kingdom. Long after the Spanish Empire had left, it remained; the sole Christian area of the Malayan Archipelago. The sole bastion of the Western World in Malaya. An abomination that had long twisted the stomachs of the Sultans who reigned over Bruneian Malaya.

But now, such an era was at an end.

Like large bees, the sounds of planes buzzed across the sky; while the Sultana Hafeeza and Prince Abdul Jalil battleships performed blockades across the coast of the Mentawai Kepalauan and West Sumatra. From north, south, and east; infantry support tanks rode in alongside what could be considered an entire battalion.

The Pagarayungans knew all too well what would happen if they surrendered. First and foremost, they'd lose their sovereignty; and be immediately annexed by Bruneian Malaya. Secondly, no new churches could be constructed; and all the old ones would have to be maintained by Christians, who would be heavily taxed unless they converted to Islam. Thirdly, all forms of Western influence would be purged- Including language, culture, and religion. Only Malaya and Islam would reign, were they to surrender.

With none to defend Catholic Pagarayung, it was bound to surrender immediately to the mere sight of the might of Bruneian Malaya; were it wise. This, the mighty Sultan Haji Farid Bolkiah knew all too well. The Christians for certain would have had no navy powerful enough to take on battleships, nor any form of airforce. Perhaps they'd have an army, but it would be absolutely minuscule in comparison to the Royal Army of Bruneian Malaya; and were they to resist, would not last long before their central government had already surrendered.

Now, it was only a matter of time before the Pagarayungans raised their white flags and submitted to the might of Bruneian Malaya.

Miles Away From Pagarayung, Sumatra

The Japanese Observers watched with intrigue as the desires of Bruneian Malaya to conquer Pagarayung has now let loose, and has finally come about. While it was unfortunate that the Japanese Attachés to Pagarayung had to be withdrawn, it is without a doubt that Pagarayung would be conquered with ease by the Malayan forces, and the breakdown of Japanese-Pagarayung relations have ceased to exist for it no longer had relevance. It will only be days, weeks maybe, till they are subjugated by the fist of the Malayan forces., one of the Observers said. That statement was as close to reality as victory was to Bruneian Malaya.

Kyūden of the Tokyo Imperial Palace, Tokyo

The Imperial General Headquarters-Government Liaison Conference (大本営政府連絡会議 Daihon'ei seifu renraku kaigi), was present, and the potential implications of Bruneian Malaya's recent actions were scrutinized. Whilst the Chief of the Army General Staff was convinced that it was better for the Japanese to be close allies to Bruneian Malaya to allow the Army the luxury of having to only focus on the Chinese front, the Chief of the Navy General Staff disagreed heavily, stating that the Bruneian Malaya is a potential threat in our Southern flank of which the Navy wishes to sail the waters of the archipelagos below. It was clear that the Supreme War Council was at odds with each other regarding this matter.

Undoubtedly however, both agree that the Japanese Military should be like a fish to a cat.

Pagarayung, West Sumatra
Just as predicted by Sultan Haji Farid, the Pagarayungans had surrendered quickly; and capitulated within a week. Without any form of foreign aid, Pagarayung was left to its own devises to defend itself; which was arguably quite laughable. The small nation had neither mechanized armor, nor an airforce. Its navy was insignificantly small, and were largely made up of outdated steamboats and even wooden ships. It was most certainly guaranteed to fail, as if God had laid it out for Bruneian Malaya as a gift.

Several laws were passed, and Pagarayung was annexed into Bruneian Malaya. For the moment, it would remain some considerable autonomy until the administration had solidified its control over Pagarayung while Bruneian Malaya also bombarded Pagarayung with Muslim migrants. However, a number of laws were to be passed as soon as the transition was complete; of which included:
  • Prohibition on the construction of new churches, parishes, temples, etc.
  • Increased taxes on all non-Muslims and their belongings.
  • Special privileges given to Muslims in Pagarayung.
  • Removal of Spanish as a core subject from education system, and addition of Arabic and Bruneian Malay to education system.
  • Enforcement of full Shariah regardless of religion or nationality all across Pagarayung.

Reykjanesbær, Iceland, Aureumterra
Bjarnlaugur Elimarsson ducked under the cover of a large rock on the side of the road on his way to the church. in Iceland, curfews were strictly enforced, and being seen by a soldier at curfew time meant game over… The Auruemterrese soldier turned away, and Bjarnlaugur quickly took the opportunity to scamper up the road and out of the soldier’s sight. He was shocked to see another person right in front of him, but received that it was just his friend Radvardur Agustsson.

“What were you doing?! You almost got caught!” Radvardur cautioned in Auruemterrese. Bjarnlaugur shook his head, “Nope, I don’t think he even suspected me.” Bjarnlaugur replied in Icelandic. “Dude, the walls have ears, if we’re not in a secure area, just avoid speaking in Icelandic.” Radvardur replied in Aureumterrese. “Nei nei, let them hear me.” Radvardur lowered his voice, “You know what they might do to you, right?” “Yes, I do, don’t worry.” Bjarnlaugur replied.

The two continued down to the church, seeing no more soldiers. They did a secret knock on the entrance of the church, and the door was silently opened. Bjarnlaugur entered the church and shut the door quietly behind him, a small number of people were already there, conversing freely in Icelandic. A large number of students were there as well, coming to learn the language of their forefathers, as it was strictly forbidden in public schools. Every night in this church, they would be taught Icelandic in top secrecy. However this night, something was different. Another knock came on the church door… “Who could it be? I thought everyone was here already…” Bjarnlaugur said. He was petrified after he opened the door to see a squad of Auruemterrese Imperial Guardsmen standing there, armed.

The Gagiumish Empire

The Gagiumish Empire, the most glorious empire to have ever been birthed by any group of people on Earth. The empire on which the sun never truly set, the Gagiumishes forged their power and might through a string of successful colonies strewn out across the various terrains of the Earth, from the deserts and plains of Africa to the forests and lakes of Canada, from the tropical islands of the Caribbean to the more temperate Atlantic islands. The prize of the Gagiumish Empire, however, was the vast territory that was referred to as Hindustan - Truly the crown jewel of the Gagiumish Empire. A land filled with riches and glory..That is, riches and glory that belonged to the Gagiumish rulers and only the Gagiumish rulers. Generations of Hindustani had now lived under the Imperial mandate of the Emperor, having seen what once was a independent land forged into a new land, one that only served as a generator of wealth for the Gagiumish people.

This, of course, upset the Hindustani people..But who were they to challenge the strongest and most glorious empire on the face of this Earth? And yet they did - Remote villages still mostly out of the reach of the Imperial mandate fell under the control of loosely-connected Hindu clerics and their congregations. Would it be right to call this the beginning of an insurgency? Sure it would be - When news of this reached the Colonial Government, they were apparently outraged. And yet, there was still no definite front, no apparent war or conflict..It would be impossible to wage war against a practically invisible enemy. Thus, the remote Hindustani villages and jungle that advanced their plot were largely ignored, not posing a large threat to Colonial rule..At least, in the minds of the government.

Europe

War was declared - The Nazis in Germany shall fall! The military might of the Gagiumish Empire would surely crush them and restore the rightful order in Europe..However, there was one issue - There were no actual plans of attacking the Nazis, even if war had been declared. The Gagiumish navy largely continued routine convoy protection missions and patrol routes, while the small contingent of 150,000 Gagiumish troops in France sat stationary. To make matters worse, the Gagiumish didn't exactly have air superiority over the German Luftwaffe, either, and the Imperial troops based in Africa were in no position to attack the Italians. The Gagiumishes had thus resolved to wait - Wait for what? The Germans? The Italians? The Aureumterrans to the north?

What was the year again...?

Ah, yes...

By the moon, 1358 years since the migration of a very spiritual gentleman from a holy city in the desert.

By the sun, 1318 years since this gentleman of significant importance migrated with his followers to a city that would, in time, bear his name.

By the reckoning of some guy named Gregory - the year was 1939. The ancient lands of Ihsalihna were stirring softly beneath an impenetrable blanket of soaring mountains and burning sands, its belly full of the rich oil reserves yet discovered on Earth and its mind dreaming of a golden age lost to a distant time. Its people mostly slumbered with it... except, of course, the ever hectic political and media circles that had arisen in the 1800s, both young and full of energy. Newspapers, political parties, a parliament, vast reforms dragging the ancient imperial power into the modern age after years of stagnation... Ihsalihna did not slumber so peacefully these days. Nor did her leaders. For while many of the common people had little investment in the conflicts breaking out across the world, they paid a keen interest. Like Japan, Brunei, and Ethiopia, Ihsalihna was one of the last truly free lands outside of Europe to carry the prestigious title of Empire - and since 1817, the Shahs of the Roshanid Dynasty had been slowly, carefully but steadily advancing the nation into a new age of power and wealth. They wanted to keep it that way. Three main players lead the nation as of the year 1939 AD...

Image

The Grand Imam of the Ihidīn’illāhi'i tradition and current Shah of the Serene Empire of Ihsalihna, Mohamed Kharadeen Shah's desires to promote gradual reform and avoid conflicts between modernity and faith are not without obstacles. New oil refineries, modernized legal and bureaucratic systems, a massive purge of corruption, electricity and railroads, tax reforms and railroad construction - all this and more, though the military is lagging behind somewhat. A great deal of prestige has been gained by his financing of Ihsalihna's modernization projects with indigenous funding, free from foreign investment - but the Shah seeks out European expertise and influence all the same, believing it to be the key to building up his nation. Shares in Ihsalihna's lucrative oil fields are likely to give the holder a substantial return on their investment, and guarantee a steady supply of fuel to a modern industry and military - with more contracts to follow in a vast country seeking to advance itself further. Mohamed Kharadeen Shah also carries a substantial amount of leverage in affairs outside of his borders, with connections among the Sufi orders located through the Islamic world and a place as a respected figure among Shi'a and Sunni alike. Further complicating matters, he has given a great deal of interest to the well-being of Muslims and other peoples living under various European empires - including the Gagiumish Empire, and the situation in Hindustan and colonial holdings within the Arabian Peninsula. The Shah seems to seek a peaceful resolution to these ills, and an outcome that will benefit both parties. Of course, whether the Gagiumish trust him, and view him as an asset or threat, remains to be seen.

Image

The noblewoman Azar Baran Sadir, carrying the venerable hereditary title of Sayyida al-Hurra and the bloodline of the ancient and renown Ardashid dynasty, strikes a recognizable figure in her distinctive paranja-stye burqa, traditional garb of Hāzeri women. Her opposition to foreign influence has seen boycotts of European goods and other disturbances, and beyond this she retains a great deal of influence in court and among the tribal nomads she united behind the new constitutional monarchy. She retains her widespread support as the leader of the Roshani Movement that brought the Grand Imam to power, and the influence of her ancestor's legacy on Ihsalihna's history and place within the Ihidīn’illāhi'i Order remain factors anchoring her place in a new society. Though her support for the new dynasty has been unshakable, she remains a mysterious and enigmatic figure, her face and true intentions veiled.

Image

Following in the footsteps of the great Ihsali statesman Amir Farahani, the current Prime Minister, Abdul-Hessein Khorasani, seeks to bring Ihsalihna into the light of modernity - mostly in line with Grand Imam Mohamed Kharadeen Shah's visions. But Khorasani and his Revival Party also troubles the Shah's attempts to gain the favour of the Gagiumish Empire: he has expressed admiration for the perceived advancements brought to German society by Adolf Hitler and other leaders like him - his Axis sympathies, while not unopposed in the Ihsali Majlis, have significant popular support among those with a mind to expand the nation's power and economy. His general secular leanings do little to reassure the Shah, but he is an able leader and skilled politician, sure to go down in Ihsali history - for better or worse.

And now, as the lamps are going out all across Europe and a blood-red sun rises in the East, Ihsalihna sleeps.

But always with one eye open...

Image

Ah, nearly forgot.

At least one influential member of Ihsali society, perhaps annoyed with not being relevant enough for a introductory paragraph, has decided to make a small mark on the unfolding world stage. As the Imám-Jum'ih of the Ihsalihna capital city of Ihsfara, the esteemed cleric Imam Ali Emamzadeh is the leader of the Friday Prayer and an influential Hujjat al-Islam.

And with much discussion of the Annexation of Pagarayung circulating in Ihsfara's newspapers, he seems to have written an open letter to the Bruneian government. How it will be received remains to be seen...

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

Bi'sm'illāhi r-raḥmāni r-raḥīm
In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the Worlds. Peace and Blessings be upon His final messenger, Muhammad.

In regards to recent events in Pagarayung and their impact upon the world, the Tribe of Adam that is Humanity, we as a humble follower of the Prophet Muhammad, ṣallā llāhu ʿalayhi wa ʾālihī wa sallam, and a scholar of the Holy Revelations of the Qurʼān, have seen it necessary to request clarification on certain concerns we have noted. We assume, naturally, that as a devout Muslim the honourable Sultan of Brunei is not aware of these divergences his esteemed servants have mistakenly put in place in Pagarayung. These concerns are based on two alleged declarations within the Pagarayung territory:

1. Enforcement of full Shariah regardless of religion or nationality all across Pagarayung

Such a practice is not in line with Shari'a, as explicitly outlined in Quran 2:256: "There shall be no compulsion in the religion. The right course has become clear from the wrong. So whoever disbelieves in Taghut and believes in Allah has grasped the most trustworthy handhold with no break in it. And Allah is Hearing and Knowing." Furthermore, multiple authentic hadith detailing the Prophet Muhammad, ṣallā llāhu ʿalayhi wa ʾālihī wa sallam, and his Companions, may Allah be pleased with them, using the religious jurisprudence of non-Muslims when dealing with non-Muslims. One such example is from the Sahih Muslim book of hadith, particularly Hadith 4211 in the Book of Legal Punishments, wherein the Prophet Muhammad, ṣallā llāhu ʿalayhi wa ʾālihī wa sallam, is narrated to have judged two Jewish dhimmi by the prescribed punishments of the Torah.

2. Prohibition on the construction of new churches, parishes, temples, etc.

Never did the Prophet Muhammad, ṣallā llāhu ʿalayhi wa ʾālihī wa sallam, forbid the building of a church, nor did he order the demolition of a church. In fact the Holy Qur’an mentions that we Muslims are to defend Churches, and even Synagogues if they are attacked. As Allah says in the Qur’an, revealed in verses 22:39-49: "Those who have been driven out from their homes unjustly only because they said, ‘Our Lord is Allah’ – And if Allah did not repel some men by means of others, there would surely have been pulled down cloisters and churches and synagogues and musjids, wherein the name of Allah is oft-commemorated. And Allah will surely help one who helps Him. Allah is indeed Powerful, Mighty." The treaty of Umar bin al-Khattab to the people of Jerusalem mentions their religious freedom and the dignity of their places of worship and religious symbols, while Khalid bin al-Walid's treaty with the people of Aanaat guarantees the ringing of church bells and public displays of religious symbols during festivals. Furthermore versions of this treaty outlining

Islam only requests that non-Muslims should respect the feelings of the Muslims and the dignity of their faith, so that they do not put their religious symbols and crosses on display in Muslim cities, and so that they do not build new churches in Islamic cities where no church existed before. There have furthermore been several prominent Muslim jurists that have allowed the people of dhimma to build churches and abbeys and other places of worship in Islamic cities, and in countries conquered by Muslims after fighting. The leader of the Muslims allowed them to do such things based on consideration for the public good, as Islam continued to respect their beliefs and the needs of the public people.

Historical examples of the practice of allowing the building of churches and other dhimmi temples are many. The historian al-Maqrizi concludes that there is no debate in this practice occurring within first century of the hijra.

Thus,

For a territory to be forced to comply to shari'a, even if they are not of the ummat al-muʼminīn, and to forbid the building of churches and other places of worship to dhimma. Villages, towns, and other places that are not of a Muslim majority should therefore not be forbidden from freely doing so, and from practicing their religion and applying their own religious laws - in regards to such laws complying with the general public well being of the territory and do not transgress the sacred limits of the Muslim faith.

The leader of the Muslim community should judge church-building in Muslim-majority areas on a case-by-case basis, allowing it when the good of the public, both Muslims and Christians, is served by it.

And Allah knows best.

Signed,
Ali Emamzadeh

Like most outside sources of information, the Ilashi Imam's open letter was swiftly intercepted by the authorities of Bruneian Malaya. Before it would reach the ears of any Malayan, it would first pass through the reviews and revisions of the Ministry of Communications. Now the simple response would be to simply ridicule the Shiites and never acknowledge the message, but that would simply stop the information from reaching the Malays and the people of the Arabian Peninsula; not the rest of the Islamic World, most of whom were under Western influence and prone to more Western ideals.

A counter-propaganda effort had to be taken.

Madinah, Hashemite Arabia
The Hashemite King Abd'al Ilah had to be quite thankful for the aid of Bruneian Malaya during the Saudi-Hashemite Wars, as without it, the Kingdom of Hejaz would have certainly been conquered by Nejd. Succeeding his father, Ali ibn Hussein, Abd'al Ilah assumed his reign over the Hashemite Kingdom of Arabia. Officially, Arabia was independent; and Bruneian Malaya had sworn to defend it and come to its aid whenever needed, and that was true for the most part.

However, the Hashemite king had now received a request from the Sultan of Bruneian Malaya, Haji Farid Bolkiah; to aid him in a counter-propaganda effort against the Ilsahi accusations that Bruneian Malaya's annexation of Pagarayung was un-Islamic. While the Grand Sharif was certainly no Caliph, he retained control over the two holiest cities; thus holding considerable influence over most of the Islamic World, save for the Shiites.

The Hashemites themselves, alongside the Malays; were followers of the Shafi'i Madhab, but also held considerable influence over the Maliki Madhab, as the Maliki Fiqh also considers the opinion of the people of Madinah to be a valid source of Islamic Law. The Hanbalites were severely unpopular, due to their association with the Sauds, and the Shiites were despised all across the Sunni Islamic World; so all that had to be worried of were the Hanafi Madhab, whose fiqh was generally more flexible than most other madhabs.

In order to aid the counter-propaganda efforts of Bruneian Malaya, the Grand Sharif had prepared a speech to be given in Medina; for all the Islamic World to hear.

"As-Salamu Alaykom and Bismillah my brothers and sisters in Islam, I am Grand Sharif Abd'al Ilah, but some of you know me simply as Grand Sharif Abdullah. Either way is fine. As we all know, we live in times of turmoil; as the world once again seems to be in a state of unrest and friction. However, not all in this world is to be covered in darkness; as far to the east, the people of Pagarayung are liberated from Western influence and given Islam. Praise Allah for Allah is the greatest, and Allah has guided Bruneian Malaya into liberating Pagarayung. However, there are some who criticize this event; and call it 'un-Islamic'. I come to tell you, that they are wrong. This liberation is most Islamic, as truly; the Christians in Pagarayung are but a minority made victim by Western Imperialism, and these Dhimmi are under the protection of Bruneian Malaya, so there is no need for worry, and Sumatra is indeed majority Muslim so Shariah and Jizya is completely just in this regard.

These Christians in Pagarayung are a minority who are simply victims of Western Imperialism blinded by Western Imperialism. The Pagarayungans, they did not willingly adopt Christianity. They were forced to convert from Islam, in the face of Christian oppression. What the people of Bruneian Malaya are doing, they are simply undoing the subjugation of the Malays of Pagarayung. They are undoing their humiliation, and reintroducing them to the truth, to Islam. Not only shall they rejoin their Sumatran brothers and sisters in Islam, but they rejoin our numbers and honor their ancestors.

As for the building restrictions instituted by the Bruneian Malayans over their Dhimmi and increased taxes; it is simply part of jizya, which is the protection of the Dhimmi living in an Islamic State. Many of the old caliphates extracted these taxes from the Dhimmi, and it obligated them to protect the Dhimmi. It is the Dhimmi replacement for Zakat, and part of this protection include restrictions as to not distrupt Islamic society. If we removed these restrictions, they may perhaps attempt to convert Muslims to their faith, which is haram and can lead to some unwanted punishments. These restrictions protect them, and us from haram; and are thus vital to jizya. They are not prohibited from worship, simply protected from the consequences of forbidden actions they might take were these restrictions not in place.

Sumatra of which Pagarayung is a part of; is not majority Dhimmi, but majority Muslim. The extraction of Jizya and enforcement of Shariah is not prohibited, but highly encouraged within Islamic lands such as Sumatra. If the Dhimmi are to provide resistance, then they are the aggressor; for these lands are Islamic lands. I've even heard, that the Muslim population of Pagarayung itself is rising exponentially by the minute.

In summary, the actions taken by Bruneian Malaya are just. They do not defy Islam in Pagarayung, but rather support it. Our brothers and sisters in Bruneian Malaya can be trusted, as like us they are Muslim; and on more than one occasion they have already saved us from certain annihilation. Alhamdulliah."
