The Magarati Succession Crisis (TWI ONLY | OOC)

Postby Athara Magarat » Tue Nov 05, 2019 3:49 am

Hello everyone! This is Athara Magarat and it is time for some balkanization.

Premise

7 people dead. And the names of those seven people?

  • Jrm Hangma
  • Mrs Tamuwani Pachyu, CEO of Power Beer
  • Jivan Pachyu, supposed lover of the Hangma and son of Tamuwani Pachyu
  • Rajiv Pachyu, the younger brother of Jivan
  • Yu Kumari Paija, the sole daughter of currently comatose Paija Hang (technically he is not a hang but he was the predecessor of Jrm Hangma and is still called so)
  • Retired Major Phedap Moringlahang, another supposed lover of the Hangma but also friends with Jivan and the preparator???
  • Captain Katrina Main, supposedly infatuated with the major and accomplice of the preparator???

The Official Version: Major Phedap Moringlahang and Jivan Pachyu were both in love in Jrm Hangma. But the two men were said to have become friends. On a party hosted by the Pachyus for Yu Kumari Paija's 14th birthday, the retired major (who also was reportedly suffering from PTSD from the 30th Parallel War) and his accomplice told everyone else except for the Hangma, the Pachyus and Yu Kumari Paija to leave the room citing security concerns. Moringlahang and his accomplice then opened fire as everyone else outside heard gunshots. Jivan tried to wrestle him but was killed. Moringlahang then killed his accomplice and committed suicide by pulling the trigger on his own head when the security arrived.

Alternative Version: Moringlahang and Main told everyone else except the Hangma, the Pachyus and Yu Kumari Paija to leave the room citing security concerns. Masked men barged into the room and gunned down the Hangma and Yu Kumari Paija who was with her. They then opened fire on the Pachyus. Moringlahang and Main tried to wrestle the attackers. Main was shot down while Moringlahang was knocked down by the attackers. The attackers left after confirming that the Hangma was not breathing anymore. After seeing that his loved ones and friends were all dead, the retired major (who suffered from PTSD) committed suicide by pulling the trigger and that is what the security saw when they arrived.

As expected, the people are more likely to believe the second version said by anonymous sources claiming to be eye-witnesses. Besides Moringlahang is a war hero from the 30th Parallel War (1991-1994) and immensely popular. Questions remain as to why there the security was almost incompetently negligent. Questions remain as to why Moringlahang and Main (if the second version is to be believed) told everyone else to leave the room. Questions remain as to why the Tribal Council of Elders and the Magarati government hosted snap elections instead of making the deaths public immediately (the public would only know all this after the snap elections are done).

And if the second version, supposedly told by many "eye-witnesses" is to be believed, who ordered the hit and for what reason?

The death of Jrm Hangma became the catalyst for the Magarati Civil War, better known as the Magarati Succession Crisis (of 2019-2020).

  • Once the snap elections are over, Rhula Hangma of Tamuwan will be declared the next Hangma of Athara Magarat. She will then announce her new position and the deaths publicly.
  • Claiming foul play, Thebe Kulung Hang of Khumbuwan in northeast will declare independence (we could shape some backstory like the Khumbuwanis had quickly switched over to Free Powers side after being promised they would be their own country...then got betrayed after the Imperial War ended...this region indeed had influential clans backing Khumbuwani separatists). Several southern hangates (the Chathas, Marubhumi, etc) will follow suit and proclaim their own independence. Say what you may about Jrm Hangma, her (and her predecessor Paija Hang's) authority had been the only thing keeping the ever divided hangates united.
  • But that does not end here. Monarchists now rally behind Mgar descendants across the Isles. Some of these Mgar descendants are willing to claim what is rightfully theirs. The monarchists gather together to welcome the reign of the Mahangs once again.
  • TBD other events
  • People trying to find out who killed the Hangma and why
  • Conspiracy theorists saying this and the stuff in NA and Thuzbekistan are related ("they are commies and in turmoil!") and that some nefarious group is pulling the strings (maybe there is a slight tiny bit of truth to this)

Would love to get heavily involved. Which side would it make the most sense for me to support? In addition, maybe there can be some internal turmoil here in Brulafi with ethnic clashes in the north if you'd say there's any Mgar enclaves there.

Well, AM is actually communist. There's like a couple dozen socialist or communist parties but in the end, they are all almost the same (the parties do not matter that much in AM). They are going to back the Tribal Council of Elders and the Divan-i-Magarati (which is our parliament of sorts and these two bodies are the ones who hold actual power) in electing the next man or woman ASAP (their claims that the elections need to be done ASAP and deaths announced later on or else there will be instability).

BTW, Mgar is not an ethnicity. It was the dynasty and only their members could get elected as Mahangs of the Khas-Kirat Empire (being a hang or hangma was open to anyone). The direct matrilineal line ended before the Great Gael War but many cadet branches can still be found all over the Isles. The monarchists are of the view that the Magaratis lost the Imperial War and have been losing political influence ever since that war ended because "pretenders rule the country". Even non-monarchists view the Mgars as some sort of higher folks who cannot be replaced (Temur Buduja called himself Emperor of Magarat and modern-day leaders are called Hang or Hangma of Athara Magarat...instead of Mahangs despite being lords of minor hangs who govern their own little hangates because none of them are Mgars). And it does not matter to these monarchists if the Mgar claimants are all foreigners (many Mahangs were and the most famous of these is the last Mahang who was a Noronnican; who immediately annexed AM into Nyssic Colonial Empire as the Magarati Dominion and ended the Khas-Kirat Empire).

Oh, actually, that works a lot better for me, then. So the Brulafi government probably backs the elected leader, while clashes in Magarati-descended areas (sorry for butchering your ethnic diversity) escalate at home based on who they want the Brulafi government to support.

Please bear with this horrible map.

Socialist Republic: The government formed after the snap elections. Backed by the Divan-i-Magarati and the Tribal Council of Elders as well as various socialist and communist parties of AM (please remember AM is socialist). You could say this is the most legitimate government and the international community is likely to support this faction unless they have some other interests.

Monarchists: The hangs of these three states want to place someone of Mgar blood as the Mahang and bring back the Khas-Kirat Empire. However, there are conflicts among the monarchists on who exactly is the strongest candidate to be the Mahang.

12. Hangate of Khumbuwan: Their leader is the one who starts this war basically by declaring independence (the southern hangates follow suit). They had been promised a country of their own during the Imperial War period by the Free Powers to turn against the Empire of Magarat but been betrayed once the war was over.

10. Chuli Hangate: They have declared their independence and then isolated themselves in their mountains...

1,2 and 3 - the Two Chathas and Marubhumi Hangate: Ever since the 30th Parallel War (1991-1994), tensions have been between the two Chathas (actually three, there is a San Montagnan Chatha as well) and the Marubhumi Hangate. Much of Chatha became San Montagnan territory after the 30th Parallel North Line was declared the border between AM and SM. There have been multiple referendum to unite the two Magarati Chathas through a narrow strip of land throguh southern Marubhumi but failed (to be fair to the Marubhumi people - their land is mostly desert and the only fertile region with industries is the strip of land the two Chathas claim or the ones that the San Montagnans took over in the 30th Paralle War). The southern hangates follow suit of Khumbuwan in declaring their independence. But the two Chathas immediately begin their invasion of southern Marubhumi. They will be mostly busy with their own little war, oblivious to the fact that San Montagna armies might march in...

4. Koch Hangate: Another independence seeker state. Despite this, they have no major beef with anyone else. The wildcard of sorts. They are technically the most powerful faction after the Monarchists and Socialist Republic (not counting the Three Islands who are neutral) in terms of population, military and whatnot.

5. Hangate of Jaring: They want to join Razzgriz.

14, 15 and 16 - Three Islands: They are like "we support the Socialist Republic but we are still capitalists and neo-liberals. Please inform us when the war is over. Good luck with that suckers. We will just keep drinking our tea and running our industries and cities."

Outside mainland AM - Dura Island and Tandran: In Sawneeak Atoll, possibly taken over by either Razzgriz or Scantarbia.

If I am to join I will fight for the monarchists but would be a limited support and volunteers until the Mokov civil war ends.

Havalland only has 435,000 soldiers and already sent a good amount to Mokov, plus most are more pumped up to fight in Mokov for revenge for the embassy attack.

No official positions will be taken aside from democracy good, but there will definitely be support sent unofficially by tamu suvurnians to their brothers, and to Khumbuwan because we see him as a useful anti-communist asset plus the opportunity to gain access to economic stuff should he succeed.

Some timeline -

November 10 - Jrm Hangma and co are killed. (Though it happened on NOV 7 in posts...) The Magarati ambassador to League meets ambassadors from Ainslie, Brulafi and others???

November 11 - Thebe Kulung Hang of Khubuwan declares his independence. While the world knows of his rebellion; no one knows why he chose this moment all of a sudden.

November 12 - Rhula Hangma of Second Tamuwan Hangate is declared the new Hangma of Athara Magarat; the death of Jrm Hangma is made public. Sorry I could not do any news. The Khumbuwanis are making some progress as the Socialist Republic has not yet done anything.

November 16/17/18 - The southern hangates declare their independence as well one by one.
