Hegemony Day and Tensions

His Holiness The 14th Dalai Lama and The Venerable 11th Panchen Lama stated they will attend Hegemony Day in the nation of Karthspire. This is in light of rising tensions in the Balkans, especially concerning Tibet forging a trade alliance with Aca. This has provoked many heated accusations from the Ephyral nation. The two monarchs stated they will not address the issue further stating "We will continue to trade freely with Aca and will defend our right to trade, including security of the routes".

Expedition Team Lost

*Rescue team in the Everest area.
An expedition team from the West are confirmed to be missing on Everst. The nationalities are reported to be from Karthspire and Ascoobis along with their Sherpa guide. A rescue team from the 1st and 2nd Mountain Divisions of the Royal Army, 10th Medical Division of the Royal Army and the 1st Army National Guard were assembled in Luklha near Everest. The medical teams will set up a triage zone at foot of Everest as the Mountain Divisions will ascend Everst to find the expedition team. The team was reported missing yesterday when they did not return to their guest house after five days of being on Everest. Local Sherpas reported they were last spotted attempting to climb Everest almost one week ago. Their base camp was found yesterday at the bottom of a trail and is under guard by Federal Police. The identities of the missing team will be revealed.

Old habits die hard
As our nation grows in power, perhaps it is right for our old foes to grow restless. With each advancement our armed forces make, the more wary our old foes become. In the early hours of yesterday morning, a squadron of Terai-1 fighters were scrambled at an airfield in Southern Xiralije and quickly took to the skies above the Illinalta. The reason for this: a plane belonging to the Armed Forces of the Ephyral Freehold had strayed into Karthspiri airspace and was refusing to respond to requests from military air controllers to turn back.

According to reports from the Executive Office for War and Military Affairs, the aircraft was intercepted above the southern tip of the Crimean Peninsula several minutes after the fighters were scrambled and, reportedly, was granted one last opportunity to turn back towards neutral airspace. With the crew, once again, refusing to respond to military air controllers, the fighters opened fire on the Ephyral aircraft; landing lethal hits and bringing the aircraft down over Karthspiri territory. The Executive Office for War and Military Affairs is reporting that most of the crew have survived the attack, albeit injured, and are being treated in a military medical facility before being handed over to the NJF for questioning.

Regional Premier Ghimpu assassinated
Seemingly out of nowhere, tensions have exploded in the Special Administrative Zone of Dátrije when the newly appointed Regional Premier, Gheorghe Ghimpu, was assassinated at 5:37 this morning. The late Mr. Ghimpu was reportedly travelling in his chauffeur driven, ministerial car on his way to the train station in the center of Lorenhir to catch the 6am train to Elinhir for a meeting with Executor Ralatsén when tragedy struck. Whilst being driven down one of the city's newly paved boulevards, Mr. Ghimpu's car exploded without explanation. Despite little evidence, the Office of the Executor issued a statement offering condolences to the family of Mr. Ghimpu and his driver as well as offering assurances to the people of Dátrije and blaming the tragedy on "subversive actions organised and supported by hostile foreign actors."

With this, and the lack of blame directed towards any particular group by the Government, communities both within the city of Lorenhir as well as the wider state of Dátrije have been at one another's throats. The Paglaumian community, who form a majority which stands at around 60% in the state, are blaming the actions on ethnic Karthspiri militia groups as a response to, and aimed to undermine, the region's new semi-autonomous status. Clashes have been taking place between these two communities since the news broke and local law enforcement agencies across the state have become rapidly overstretched; requesting intervention by the Central Government. Only time will tell how Elinhir chooses to respond.

A nation rebuilt
Early in its tenure, our new Government set out ambitious targets regarding the reconstruction of the nation as well as the implementation of huge new infrastructure and housing projects. A recent report by the Office of the Executor has declared that these targets were not only do-able but that they have been surpassed before the 1-year target. The Office of the Executor is reporting that all property damaged during the war has been fully reconstructed as well as new housing having been constructed around newly emerging cities to properly house the populations of slum-dwellers which used to surround them.

Not only have our cities been rebuilt with large new districts added, our infrastructure, too, has seen a huge overhaul. Where there once was nought but fields, there are now huge highways, known as Otoratharí, which connect city to city, town to town and village to village. Our cities, once paved with nothing but rubble and cobblestones, are now home to huge new boulevards which are bordered by huge, ambitious new architectural projects.

The cost of all this to our nation is, for all intents and purposes, nothing. The money spent by the Government on the vast project has, according to figures from the treasury, already been returned to the Karthspiri taxpayer due to the huge amount of economic and business activity the infrastructure and reconstruction projects stimulated.

Convoy missing in the Carpathians
According to a leak from the Justice Office, a Trankvilan terror suspect, apprehended under the Terai regime, has reportedly "vanished" whilst in transit through the Carpathian mountains. The source claims that the convoy, relatively low security for a prisoner of his category, was travelling early in the morning on a lonely mountain road when, around 4:58 am, communications were suddenly cut off only 4 miles away from the facility to which the prisoner was being moved.

Lost in Heaven
Tibetan State sources are reporting that Karthspiri and Ascoobian expedition teams have lost contact whilst traversing Mount Everest. The Office of the Exterior released a press statement denying the presence of any Karthspiri Citizens within Tibet, noting that travel outside of Karthspire is heavily restricted by the Government, but offered the Tibetan Government help with locating the missing climbers.

*The bodies of two expedition members that were reported missing laid out with the search team behind them

Two frozen bodies were found on Everst nearly 15,000 feet(4572 meters) high. One body is confirmed to be the Sherpa guide, Phurba Norbu. Mr. Norbu was 32 and was found lying near a cave. By the position of his body he appeared to have been attempting to seek shelter from the elements. His climbing gear was found near his body along with the gear of another expedition member. Phurba Norbu was married with two children. He was a monk and a mountaineer.

The second body is confirmed to be a Westerner but, his body was partially pulverized as the result of a fall. The second body was found a few feet below Mr. Norbu. The result of death was confirmed to be blunt trauma to the head, and punctured lungs. The scene around the body was described by a searcher as "gruesome". His identity is unknown(John Doe)

Both bodies were transported to the bottom early this afternoon, wrapped in shrouds to be transported to the medical examiner office in Lhasa. A monk recited passages from the Bardo Thodol to the deceased before they were taken to Base Camp. The remaining five members are still reported to be missing on Everest. A group of Karthspire volunteers arrived to help find the expedition team despite them denying any Karthspire citizens were in the expedition team. The body of Phurba Norbu will be cremated according to Buddhist customs while the body of the John Doe will be held in until it is identified and claimed by the family. If the body is unclaimed it will be cremated according to Buddhist customs.

CITIZENS KILLED AS GANG VIOLENCE FLARES IN EGYPT

In the Ephyral colony at Alexandria, Egypt province, four citizens and three provincials have been killed in a believed cross-fire between two native gangs operating in the city, prompting a heavy police presence and crackdown which has seen the arrest of a dozen people. The incident took place at 08:32, December 4th, as two small groups armed with handguns opened fire on one another in the north-west of the city. It is not presently believed the citizens, three men and one woman, were targeted by the gangs, but died as an unfortunate result of cross-fire and stray bullets. Two of the men and the woman died at the scene, whilst the third man died in hospital. Three of the gang members, believed to be of provincial tributary status and belonging to a number of municipalities, were also killed.

The citizens have not been named for consideration of their families, who have since retrieved the bodies to prepare funeral rites. They were not related to one another. A subsequent police investigation and crackdown on growing gang activity in both Alexandria and other areas of the Egypt province has yielded twelve arrests believed connected with yesterday's shootings. The issue of violence has been largely contained to both non-citizen municipalities in the last few years across the Egypt province, and to the non-citizen inhabited districts and areas of large citizen colonies. Local authorities have issued a warning in the area to be careful when travelling, and promised those culpable for the killing of citizens would face swift justice.

ARCHON DEMANDS RETURN OF DOWNED AIRCRAFT AND CREW

Archon Arinarys has made a public demand to the Karthspiri that they return to the Ephyral both the military aircraft and its crew, shot down over Karthspiri land two months ago. Until now, the government was silent on the issue, neither confirming nor denying the incident. A statement from the Archon was released to the Herald, quote "In exercise of my duty to defend the citizens of Ephyra, we demand the safe return of all crewmen into Ephyral care, the return of all bodies for proper funeral rites, and the return of the aircraft shot down by the Karthspiri."

No inclusion as to the mission of the men was made in the statement, and it has yet to be seen how the Karthspiri will respond. Anti-Ephyral rhetoric has been consistent from Karthspiri state media in the years following their independence from the Germans, an act which saw a split in Ephyral-German relations due to the conclusion of the Great War. The Germans received vast territorial gains at the expense of the Karthspiri, the Russians, and other satellites of that power. Ephyral gains in the core European front were none, instead opting for the claiming of war spoils in the old traditions, on the understanding that the Karthspiri people were subdued to an allied power. With an independent Karthspiri state now recognised by the Germans, free to operate of its own accord, little has kept it in check from returning to war-time sentiments, prompting the Senate to issue a consultation recognising the Karthspiri as having hostile agency.

Tensions remain high between the Karthspiri and our citizens, as many remember the great casualties inflicted upon the Ephyral during the Great War, when the northern barbarians under Russian command swept down into Ephyra as they'd done centuries ago, invading Ephyral land, seizing treasure, and committing acts of murder and rape. Some Senators have since called this act against the Ephyral aircraft a valid case for war against the northerners if they do not comply with the demands issued.

DEATHS ON EVEREST

Two bodies have been found on Mount Everest in the lands of Tibet late last month following the disappearance of a larger expedition team. The bodies of two men were discovered just over halfway up the mountain, including one identified Phurba Norbu, a Sherpa guide aged 32, and an as of yet unknown individual believed by Tibetan authorities to be of 'Western' descent, indicating European or American nationality. No nation has yet come forward to confirm the deceased as their national, although it is known that Karthspiri and Ascoobians were part of the expedition.

SEVASTOPOLIS COAL MINE COLLAPSES, 20 FEARED DEAD

A community still in the arduous process of rebuilding following the devastation of war was stunned in silence this morning when a coal mine three miles from the city limits of Sevastopolis in Northeastern Colchis suddenly and inexplicably suffered a series of catastrophic tunnel collapses during early morning inspections by the local mining staff. The cause of the cave-ins has not yet been positively determined but emergency response teams, working in conjunction with the Sevastapolis Fire and Rescue Service and employees of the mine, estimate there were upwards of twenty workers present inside the tunnels of the Rahaemor Mining Complex at the time of the incident. The previous night's heavy snowfall has limited travel to and from the area and sign-in sheets at the entrance appear to show that there were far fewer people on-site this morning than usual, potentially averting a much higher death toll if authorities' worst fears are indeed confirmed. Site foreman Aegalon Tartheon, whom had just arrived for work when the tunnel collapse occurred, assured worried onlookers early this afternoon that every effort was being made to identify the missing labourers and get the word out to their families whilst equipment is brought in to properly gauge the severity of the situation.

The Rahaemor Mining Complex began operations in 1889 as a joint venture between two mining firms of Pontic and Kartvelian founding, utilizing many of the newest tools and machinery of the day to supply much of the greater region and indeed the nation as a whole with coal and other such minerals of note. Though its early years of operation were, as was typical of the era, plagued by safety oversights and worker injuries, the complex would eventually find its footing and become a model for Pontus' burgeoning coal and ore mining industry, at the time a sizeable piece of the Pontic economic pie. During the Russian occupation, the mine was seized by the Imperial Russian Army and the rights were soon parcelled off to a Russian company, the few remaining workers forced by the occupation force to continue working whilst extra labourers were brought in from Russia to fill in for the rest. Following the Russian retreat from Pontus, the mine's original owners returned and things mostly resumed as normal, though a combination of wartime population decline and excessive plundering by the retreating Russians meant that output was significantly slower at first. However, as the community of Sevastopolis has gradually built itself back up, things seemed to be running as smoothly as ever up until today's accident, which has put an indefinite halt to all work at the site and may even force the permanent closure of the facility.

WAR MUSEUM TO OPEN IN EUCHANEIA

The southwestern city of Euchaneia is already one of the Pontic nation's many treasured historic and cultural goldmines, laying host to numerous archaeological sites dating back to the eras of the Phrygian and Hittite peoples, in addition to its popular museums, restaurants and thermal springs. And now, with the official opening of the long-awaited Euchaneia War Museum less than a day away, budding tourists can expect to have a few extra pages added to their travel brochures.

In spite of what some have been led to believe by some of the nation's less militarily-enclined publications, museum staff and sponsors have made it clear that their intention is not to "glamorise" or "glorify" military conflict between nations but merely to offer an impartial and wholly intriguing insight into the various methods and tools the militaries of today and of yesteryear seized upon in the endless struggle to keep the Pontic nation protected from all manner of aggressors and saboteurs, both internal and external. As such, many agreements have been made with the Pontic Armed Forces to permit the display of various military pieces as part of a procedural journey through Pontic military history, from the nation's founding all the way up until today, from sword and spears to rifles and artillery. As an added bonus, the Pontic Ground Force has also kindly loaned a number of vehicles and armor to be positioned in the grounds behind the main building, including a painstakingly-restored Russian T-34 tank captured in the Pontic Alps in 1944. The vehicle, which had suffered severe structural damage just prior to its seizure, had been collecting dust in a hangar near Amaseia before its restoration began just last year. A number of Russian and German conventional arms have also been donated and will feature when the first visitors walk through the museum doors at midday tomorrow.

EPHYRAL AIRCRAFT CREW AT TOP OF AGENDA, DEADLOCK CONTINUES

With still no resolution in sight, at least not one that either party to the quandary in question would find satisfactory, Ephyral Archon Ardaemedes Arinarys continues to repeat his same demands of the Karthspiri Hegemony whilst the latter has so far remained mostly muted on the matter. As one can imagine, this impasse hasn't exactly done wonders for the notoriously strained relations between the two Black Sea neighbours and former military adversaries, still butting heads over the controversial downing of an Ephyral military aircraft over Karthspiri territory last September. As 1957 has arrived and January passes us by, it seems the return of the aircraft and its crew, a key demand of Archon Arinarys, is still little more than a forlorn hope, undoubtedly a sore disappointment to the families of the men who have spent the last three months either in Karthspiri military custody or a cold freezer. Pontic Prime Minister Lysaron Argaris, who has made little secret of his opposition to the young Karthspiri state, gave an understandably exasperated update on the situation to reporters in central Trebizond yesterday afternoon.

"Midway through January and here we are still, praying for a solution that seems to forever elude us. My government and the Archon's cabinet in Ephyra have made every effort to try and smooth things in the interest of returning several brave airmen and their fallen comrades to their families, and we have no intention of giving up in the foreseeable future, yet ultimately this impasse persists due to the long-standing antipathy between the Selian and Karthspiri peoples. If it would please the concerned parties in question, I would implore both Ephyra and Elinhir to see past their mutual distaste for the time being and understand that at the end of the day, the wellbeing of these brave and hard-working aviators must take priority over petty squabbles. The blame game can surely wait until we no longer have innocent men wasting away behind bars."

Our thoughts go out to the families affected by this unfortunate situation, and may this standoff come to an end sooner rather than later.

Danger from Dátrije
For many months now, the State of Dátrije has been wracked by sectarian violence between the minority Karthspiri and majority Romanian communities there. The violence, sparked by the death of Regional Premier Ghimpu, is the result of years of distrust between the communities and mounting tensions regarding the increased number of ethnic Karthspiri being born and moving into the state. After attempts to end the clashes peacefully as well as to control and suppress them by the semi-autonomous regional administration were officially declared to have failed early this morning, the Central Government in Elinhir has suspended the second Section of Article six of the nation's founding law; effectively bringing the state of Dátrije into a state of direct rule from Elinhir.

In an attempt to quell the blood on the streets of Dátrije, particularly in the state's capital of Lorenhir (or Chisinau) where Romanian and Karthspiri communities are often directly neighbouring one another, troops stationed in the state have been ordered to restore order on the streets by any means necessary and the local army construction corps has begun work on walls to separate and prevent violence between Karthspiri and Romanian communities in the city.

Ralatsén Doctrine announced
Karthspire's precarious position internationally is no secret for one possessing a keen mind. In the East, we find ourselves bordered by the Russian behemoth; a nation who may share our faith and some of our cultural facets but who held dominion over us for many a century and protected their Empire with a wall of Karthspiri flesh. To the west, we find ourselves bordered by Paglaum; nominally a neutral state but who so happened to fight against us in the Great War and are showing signs of shedding that neutrality for a more pro-Ephyral outlook. To the north, we find our only friend in our Reichspakt partners; the German Empire.

In the realisation that the survival of our new state relies on it being able to fight its enemies not only on the battlefield but also in the diplomatic area, Executor Ralatsén announced today a new Foreign Policy doctrine. In outlining his vision for a future Karthspiri foreign policy, Ralatsén expressed a desire to prevent any and all peoples around the world, whomever they may be, from having to suffer as the people of our own nation have. To do so, Ralatsén expressed the need for Karthspiri support, material, diplomatic and, if necessary, military, to be given to those opposing the interests of our enemies and keeping them as far away from our borders as possible.

This announcement comes in stark contrast to the policy pursued by Karthspiri Governments following the creation of our 2nd state after the great war, the policy of isolationism.

Exterior

Ephyral envy
Ever since their failed attempt to violate Karthspiri airspace, Ephyral authorities have been demanding the return of their aircraft, its crew and the bodies of those not fortunate enough to survive their ill-advised foray into our nation. Today, the Office for the Exterior formally acknowledged these Ephyral demands but refused to meet them stating, "so long as the still living bodies of our people dragged from their homes at Odessa find themselves in the chains of the Ephyral state there will be no funeral rights awarded to those who attempted to violate that sovereignty once again. We would, however, like to take the time to reassure the families of the still living crew members that their kin are being taken care of in a way befitting of prisoners of war in Karthspiri hands and would like to remind them that we have a record of treating prisoners far better than their own state."

This event is just another in a long list of incidents between the Ephyral and Karthspiri following the Great War which have served to further harm relations between the two nations to an extent, which many argue, leaves them simply beyond repair.

Historic cooperation?
As the Great War becomes nothing but a memory or an event before their time to many across the world, museums have begun to find themselves in the position of creating exhibits dedicating to wars whose scars, at least to us, are still fresh. One such museum, located in the Pontic city of Euchaneia, has attracted interest from our Government. In an unprecedented offer of cooperation from the Karthspiri Government with one, arguably, in the Ephyral sphere, the Office of the Exterior has made public a desire to work with this museum as to broaden the variety of their exhibits. To do this, the Karthspiri Government has suggested its willingness to potentially loan pieces of, currently stockpiled, equipment used by Karthspiri soldiers during the Great War to the museum; equipment such as Russian-Karthspiri uniforms, disarmed Br-2 heavy artillery pieces (many of which currently find themselves as improvised pieces of play equipment in makeshift children's playgrounds) and infantry anti-tank weapons.

PRINCE VAERMON AND LADY NESAENYS MARRIED

In an elaborate ceremony held at the Cathedral of Trebizond early this afternoon, Prince Vaermon, first son, second child and heir apparent of King Vatharion IX, was finally wedded to his fiancé of three years Lady Nesaenys Malanyon of Kastamone. The engagement, announced November 20th of last year, came in the wake of months of endless speculation and scrutiny over the relationship between the heir apparent and his noble companion, ultimately bringing much joy both to House Raengyreon and the Pontic people when the news hit the papers. Queen Thesenna even jokingly lamented losing a second child to the ravages of adulthood, though she quickly apologised for placing undue pressure on her youngest daughter, 18-year-old Princess Haemera.

The procession, held with traditional Orthodox rites, began at 10:45 in the morning with most of the wedded pair's families, royals and nobles alike, having arrived in a characteristically early fashion painfully typical of the Pontic upper class. Adhering to royal tradition, the King and his wife arrived last to the ceremony, stepping through the cathedral doors with mere seconds left on the clock. Shortly thereafter, the bride and groom arrived at 11:02 in a horse-drawn carriage and were escorted to their places following the initial introductory service conducted by the cathedral's Orthodox priests. Surrounding the building from the outside were, as per usual, crowds of Trebizond locals, reporters and even tourists eager to wish the newly-wedded couple their best on this day.

As of today's services, the former Lady Nesaenys Malanyon is now Princess Nesaenys, wife of the heir apparent to the Pontic throne and, god-willing, future queen consort. Our wishes go out to them both and may the Raengyreon line last forevermore.

PASSENGER AIRLINER VANISHES OVER NORTH ATLANTIC

In what commentators are calling the latest chapter in a dark year for Selia's aircraft industry, a transatlantic flight ferrying 58 passengers and 8 crew that took off from Amaseia Jahaeron III Airport yesterday afternoon was officially reported as missing this morning in a statement made by the Greater Pontus Aviation Administration. According to the press release, Aenenna Airlines Flight AL-29, a Boeing 377 Stratocruiser captained by industry pioneer and Great War veteran Vimond Lentigar, was experiencing no problems of note until it suddenly cut all communications at several minutes to midnight, located somewhere over the waters of the North Atlantic at the time. When the flight failed to arrive at Philadelphia International Airport as scheduled, authorities on both ends of the route promptly raised the alarm.

As this is a developing situation, Aenenna Airlines has stressed that details concerning the incident are subject to change and that they are still working to notify the families of the passengers and crew in advance of any further statements. Pontic aviation officials have reached out to their counterparts in Washington and Trankvila for assistance on the matter and it is believed coast guard and naval assets from at least several nations have been dispatched to begin a search for the missing airliner, though with such a tremendous surface area to cover in such a limited window of time with the threat of poor weather and visibility thrown into the mix, it is feared there will be little for them to even look for.

EUCHANEIA WAR MUSEUM RECIPROCATES KARTHSPIRI OVERTURES

It undoubtedly came as a bit of a surprise to us all recently when the Karthspiri government extended an olive branch across the Black Sea , offering with nary a string attached to assist in the development of the war museum that opened in Euchaneia in January. Yet in spite of the prevailing attitudes towards Elinhir by the average Pontic citizen, it has been confirmed by Euchaneia City Council that the museum is indeed willing to entertain the prospect. It would seem that whilst ties with the Karthspiri Hegemony have remained relatively frosty on a diplomatic metric, such roadblocks are scattered to the winds altogether when the interests at hand turn from politics to history, as was blatantly the case when museum director Aerys Bertalos was approached for comment.

"Speaking as director of the Euchaneia War Museum, I think it a wonderful opportunity for the greater historic and scientific community that we may be able to put our political disagreements to one side and work together on what I personally believe to be one of the most important undertakings of our age. Gladiator Competition Qualifiers Begin

As the yearly national gladiator competition nears the qualifiers for the tournament have begun. Houses across the realm both noble and citizen have sprung into life and have put forward their candidates for the opportunity to be represented at the infamous Colosseum of Blood, the gargantuan arena in Cthonia where the national competition is held each year in the presence of the King. Unlike other competitions the Qualifiers are not fought to kill but to disarm and subdue though in a rare showing sometimes there is a death especially those who duel against a berserker class of gladiator. Qualifiers will take place in local arenas all across the realm where each fight will be judged accordingly with each region having a "pool" where all gladiators in that pool will duel each other to top their table and bring honour to their house by qualifying for the main event. It is believed that no royals will enter the competition this year and that the current champion dubbed "The Black Knight" will defend his title for the seventh consecutive year. It is also rumoured that the King will allow a few select foreign agencies to broadcast the event around the globe in an attempt to open Taralus up more to the outside World.

The King authorises North Sea Oil Extraction

After countless debates with the Council of Cthonia the King has given the green light for the first official attempt at oil extraction in the North Sea, the task has been handed to the Alpha Corporation who have been surveying the North Sea for years for potential oil fields. The attempt has been taken seriously as it has been revealed that the Navy is involved in the operation but whether directly or indirectly is unknown but the King has assured the populace that the appropriate precautions and procedures will be strictly adhered to as he will oversee the operation personally and intervene where necessary despite protests from the Alpha Corporation hierarchy who have always valued their great degree of autonomy amongst the other organisations of Taralus. It is believed the operation will commence in the coming weeks.

Losar Celebrations


Tibetans celebrated the lunar new year today with fireworks, offerings and spending time with friends and family. The lunar new year of 1958 is represented by the dog. The dog is an element of the Earth and represents stability and can be used as a symbol of an "underdog" cause. Indeed there were some people that took this to heart where a charity group named White Dragon provided food to the homeless and allowed them to celebrate the new year out of the cold. In Lhasha the Lamas held a blessing at dawn for the entire nation and for all sentient beings. Astrologers state that the next time the Dog will represent the year will be in the distant future of 2018(2154 on the Tibetan calendar).

Taralus Gladiator Fighting. Live Broadcast?

The nation of Taralus has started preparing for their gladiator fighting. Unlike the gladiators of Rome these fights are not meant to be to the death but to disarm the opponent. However, deaths have been known to occur in some circumstances if a fighter goes up against what is called a "berserker class". The government of Taralus stated they will allow some nations to broadcast the matches live in their nations. We at Tibetan News have submitted a petition to the nation asking to broadcast the fights in Tibet. Indeed this can be cultural enriching as both Tibet and Taralus open to the world family.

Space Company In The Making

As the decade begins to close out the Royal Air Force in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and the astronomy departments at Menri University and Lhasa University announced the creation of a company who's goal is to further research the cosmos. The Tibetan Space Company will be a jointly run private and public company and will also be in cooperation with other space exploring companies in the world. The company will be based at Observatory Alpha on the grounds of the Lhasa Air Force Base. There are plans to build two more observatories with one in the Drukgyal state(Observatory Beta) and another in Gartok County near the town of Shiquanhe(Observatory Gamma). Plans are in the making to develop more advanced telescopes and there has been talk about possibly developing satellites to explore the cosmos. The company did not confirm nor deny the latter in their memo but they did say the idea is an option. They also stated a willingness to cooperate with friendly nations on the grounds of "peacefully exploring the great cosmos, our common heritage as human beings. We hope that other nations can help and that we can do the same in furthering the knowledge of mankind on the cosmos.The Monarchs were seen touring Observatory Alpha this morning. The Panchen Lama shared his remarks on the compeny:

"It is truly an interesting concept and something we should aspire to do. It is amazing at how far technology has come, even to hermit kingdom. I am certain that with funding from investors and even the citizenry we can advance greatly. I am open to the notion of cooperation with other nations as space is our common heritage like the Earth and the Oceans. I am confident that with multi national efforts we can advance forward in the spirit of peace in the name of science!"

In a weird twist the National Syndicalist Party, National Bolshevik Party and Communist Party announced they would form a triple alliance to "Rid the Administration of corrupt Liberalism and evil Capitalism". The Labour Party stated they will not ally with this group but will instead form an alliance with the Mutualist Party. The Mutualist Party candidate said they would be willing to work with the Labour Party and their Libertarian allies to "help stop Fascists from taking power in the government and keep the peace". The Conservative Union said they would be hesitant to allow the Labour Party ally in the election but would consider in the event the Communist and Nationalist alliance gains hold. Spokesmen from the National Front and the Communist Party said they hoped to gain a majority in the Central Administration.

SOLSTICE FESTIVAL APPROACHES

As the winter solstice of 334 PS nears, Ephyra and other cities and towns of the Freehold are preparing for the celebrations. The usual state sacrifices to the gods are to be offered beginning on the 19th of December, with celebrations by citizens of the solstice carrying on until the 23rd, with families offering private sacrifices, giving one another gifts, and enjoying a holiday from work and school. Accompanied by the traditional feast on the 22nd itself, the festival is amongst the last to bring to close another year.

ARCHON IN MEETING WITH PONTIC LEADERSHIP

His Honour, Archon Sparlion Kaelidios Aereris, has returned after a visit as an active agent of the Freehold to the Pontics, being received and meeting with both their king, Vatharion IX Raengyreon, and Prime Minister Lysaron Argaris. Ephyra's wartime ally has been the one consistent friend of the Freehold following the end of the war, as a number of states have adopted anti-Ephyral sentiments in the years since. The Acai claim territory sovereign to Ephyra's control, whilst the Tibetans support a build-up of Aca's military. The Karthspiri, having revolted from German rule, have instead of being crushed earned their support and an alliance, and have made repeated gestures of hostility to Ephyra with the Freehold's former German ally now securing the independence of the Acai, effectively positioning itself as the strongest power in an unofficial league against the Freehold.

The full content of the talks between Archon Kaelidios Aereris and his counterparts are unrevealed by the Senate, but there is strong indication that talks concerned matters of mutual security, trade, military co-operation, and cultural understandings in order to further build a bridge over a gulf that has separated Ephyra from Pontus for generations, ever since the former's rise over three hundred years ago. With the first bonds of familiarity forged in shared ordeal against the Russian and Karthspiri invasions, the visit is evidence of the Senate's desire to maintain Pontus as a strong and steadfast ally.

TIBETAN SPACE COMPANY PLANNED

The Tibetans have recently announced plans to develop a Space Company, with the intention of building a number of observatories to understand the celestial sphere, and theorising about future plans to develop satellites and send them into orbit. An offer has also been extended to so-called 'friendly nations' to co-operate on this project.

The Revolutionary National Socialist Party, Communist Party, National Syndicalist Party and the National Bolshevik Party separated from their respective fronts and created The National Socialist Front. The new front selected a black hammer and sickle in a red background as their party symbol representing a fusion of Nationalism and Marxist Socialism. The front is composed of moslty sef described Syncretics and Third Positionists. The Communist Party rebranded themselves The National Communist Party.

The Labour Party left the former United Socialist Front(Now the Syndicalist Front) and joined the Libertarian Alliance as a Left Libertarian party. To fill the void in the Nationalist Front and the Syndicalist Front new parties were created by members of politicians that did not go with their parties or were from the other parties in the front. This completely changes the ballot line up and the new line up is as follows:

National Socialist thugs labeling themselves "The Black Front" attacked students near Lhasa Technical University. The thugs, dressed in black, brandished clubs, bicycle lockers, brass knuckles and switch blades. They chased students across campus shouting "Death to Liberals", "Death to Socialists" and "Down with Capitalism. Long live National Socialism". Some students fought back until police officers arrived. One thug was shot dead by police and another was wounded when they tried to stab a police officer. Many were taken into custody and others fled. Most of the arrested were injured by pepper spray and defense wounds. The dead Black Front member's name was not released and will not be so as not to "make him a martyr to terrorist thugs".

The Black Front said they attacked the school because they deem universities "breeding grounds of Capitalism, Marxist Socialism and Globalism". The Lhasa District Attorney is seeking to charge them with hate crimes, terrorist actions and attempted murder.

Black Front Members held a torch lit rally near Menri University until students stormed their lines and drove them off until police officers arrived. The students will not be charged for assault given the Black Front members were brandishing knives.

The National Syndicalist Party issued a statement that seemed to endorse the Black Front. In the statement it includes:
"While we do not endorse violence we do endorse direct action by the people against Liberals and Capitalists. There's a reason why we are in the Top 5. Unfortunately Capitalism is still the dominant idea. The people need to seize the means and be cautious of opening the country up to the West. Our values are at stake to degenerates like Ephyral, the Slavs and the various Americans!"

The universities will remain closed for the week and more police will be ordered to protect these bastions of free thought.

Ralatsén to tour Dátrije
To anyone not living under a rock, our nation's south-west state of Dátrije (Dacia) has long been a hotbed of violence, ethnic tension and, more recently, segregation. This year, however, has been the most peaceful since the violence truly began in 1957. In those three years, the Armed Forces of the Hegemony have maintained a heavy presense in the state: controlling flows of traffic and people with checkpoints and searches, erecting large, concrete "peace walls" to seperate Karthspiri and Romanian communities as well as launching near daily operations to raid weapons caches, suspected cells to prevent the entry of weapons systems into the region.

Despite the peace walls, the presense of our boys in uniform and the constant interruption of seperatist terror cells, the threat still remains. To try and heal the divisions between the Karthspiri and Romanian communities, and to put the region back on the path to regaining its semi-autonomous status defined in the 1955 Constitution, the Sub-Executor Office of the Interior today announced Executor Ralatsén would tour the state early next year.

The Executor intends to spend much of his visit meeting and speaking with community leaders in the ever tense city of Lorenhir/Chisinau and attempting to usher in a new calm in the violence wracked city.

1960 Census
The results of the 1960 Census were today published and the results bode well for our country. Our population has, after 15 years of peace, exceeded its pre-war level due to a booming birth-rate fuelled by urbanisation, rapid industrialisation and advances in medicine. Those same medical advances have contributed to a 80% fall in the infant mortality rate with the largest improvements seen in long-suffering rural communities. Educationally, the state of our nation has much improved. The introduction of the three-tiered education system is producing a generation which, if national standardised IQ testing is to be believed, is one of the most intelligent in not only Europe but the world. Demographically, Karthspiri society is steadily becoming less and less and less fragmented for two main reasons.

Firstly, the higher birthrate in Karthspiri ethnic and religious groups, particuarly in ethnically fractured regions, has increased the numbers of Karthspiri both locally and nationally. Secondly, tensions in certain areas and changing political situations have resulted in some groups leaving the nation. The combined effect of this can be best seen in in the Eastern states where ethnic Russian majorities of around 60% have been reduced to the largest group within a Karthspiri-Nomadic Karthspiri plurality with many reporting that the use of the Russian language within towns and villages having almost disappeared but still remaining prominent in major cities.

The most major change is the 98% decrease in Karthspire's Pontic-German population with many having decided to take advantage of their "Ost-Aussiedler" status and return to what they feel to be their fatherland. The decrease has been so stark that Protestantism, within the Karthspiri nation, has all but ceased to exist and that Pontic-Germans are no longer counted as their own ethnic group in the census; instead included in the "other" category.

The Exterior Sub-Executive today released a press briefing stating Karthspire's position of support for the Tibetan Government regarding the situation of political radicalism which has taken place in the country's University Campuses. The Exterior Ministry also went out of its way to remind foreign journalists that the Karthspiri are not simply "Slavs"; giving them a brief explanation of our unique history, language and culture whilst also explaining that, despite most Karthspiri looking more European than Asian in appearance, that our genetic code is more closely related to an average East-Asian than an average Slav.

(Edwin AFB, New Mexico)The Cerman Air Force has announced it will begin procurement of a standard, production platform of an orbital bomber and service vehicle capable of being boosted to earth's orbit and zooming to targets, and re-entering. This comes during the ongoing XO-3 program, dedicated to space-rated re-entry and runway landings, having successfully conducted a 49th flight test last Saturday. The concept of a weapons capable spacecraft has been a major ticket for the CAF's agenda as far back as 1951, and has been steadily progressing since the first XO-3 was tested in 1956. Air Force public officials said in an excerpt: "The future of warfare must take into account the war in the sky and the one above the sky, with the successes in the XO-3 program, we can move forward with a combat capable spacecraft."

Defense critics have arisen to offer concern over the potential political consequences of Cerma's commitment to weaponize space. A virgin pathway of science and discovery, 'fueling an escalation of conflict over braggadocios flaunting of power does not promote an avenue of an open and liberty adoring Cerma', said a spokesperson for the Libertarian party. PRINCESS HAEMERA WED AMIDST NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS

Having trailed behind her elder siblings in the engagement department for almost four years since Prince Vaermon tied the knot with Lady Nesaenys Malanyon in the summer of 1957, Princess Haemera ascended the aisle at long last in the late hours of New Year's Eve to formally exchange wedding vows with fiancée Lord Jacaemor Taennaris of Euchaneia.

Princess Haemera, the youngest child of King Vatharion IX and his wife Malaehra, is well-known (and in some circles even beloved) for her reclusive and impersonal lifestyle, a stark contrast to her outgoing and decisive siblings. Having made by far the fewest public appearances of any of the King's immediate family since her birth in 1939, she has often been overlooked by the country's nobility and press at large, leading many to nickname her the "invisible princess". However, in spite of all this it seems her odd friendship with Lord Taennaris, himself a self-avowed denizen of the limelight, has proven too powerful to keep even this princess shut away as their shock engagement announcement last September very candidly revealed.

At the forefront of an exceedingly lavish ceremony which took many cues from her own parents' wedding almost 30 years ago, Princess Haemera hurriedly affirmed her marriage vows alongside her bemused fiancée and the presiding bishop as her parents, siblings and several dozen other royals, nobles and giggling friends watched on. The cherry on top, in a scene that could've been straight out of an Ascoobian romance film from the last decade, was the commencement of Trebizond's elaborate new year's celebrations right as the wedded couple embraced each other, with fireworks faintly visible through the cathedral's stained-glass windows. SEARCH FOR MISSING AIRLINER CALLED OFF

More than three long years have passed since Aenenna Airlines Flight AL-29 and its 66 passengers and crew vanished under mysterious circumstances over the Northern Atlantic Ocean, yet even in the face of a demoralizing lack of evidence and thousands of miles of empty ocean to scour, efforts to locate the missing aircraft or anything that remained of it had until recently continued unabated. HALF-DECADE CENSUS COMPLETED

The census of 335 PS has been completed and published, noting a growth of over 20 million people in the Freehold across all strata. This has been credited to high birthrates, decreased infant mortality, and decreased maternal mortality. Though the average growth was down from the period following the war, in which many of the returning young men married and sired children of their own, growth remained steady, peaking at an annual increase of 2.2% in 330 and 333. Alongside the publication of these results, the censors issued an appraisal of the fertility of Ephyra's young women, honouring their commitment to motherhood and their duty to family and state.

Citizens of Ephyra remain an expected minority, even accounting for post-war naturalisations of auxiliary units who demonstrated a citizen's valour in the service of the Freehold.

Following political violence conducted by a group known as the 'Black Front', so-named for their all-black uniforms, the more populous National Syndaicalist Party of Tibet issued a statement taken by Tibetan media as an endorsement of the Black Front as a movement. Within the statement however was a final remark attacking nations of the Americas, the Slavs, and the Ephyral as 'degenerate'. The comments caused indignation amongst the Senate when news first broke, and has since resulted in a decree of opinion. The decree was announced in the public forum by the senatorial herald, reading "We the Senate of the Freehold issue to the National Syndicalists of Tibet our denunciation and disapproval. Their challenge to our virtues and civility is baseless and mindless, to stoke fear of interference where none exists. The Freehold has no designs on Tibet, direct or indirect, and to allege otherwise is a gross distortion of reality, an attempt solely to demonise our august citizen race for their own political designs."

With the decree having been circulated to all cities and towns of citizen standing, the Senate has ensured that the attitude of the Tibetan National Syndicalists towards the Ephyral have been received by the Ephyral, so that all citizens can behold the unadulterated view the movement has of the Freehold and its people, and render judgement accordingly.

PONTUS CALLS OFF ATLANTIC SEARCH

The Greater Pontus Aviation Administration has announced it is now suspending all search operations for Flight AL-29, which disappeared over the North Atlantic with 58 passengers and 8 crew. The news comes with no source of closure for the family of three Ephyral citizens who were aboard Flight AL-29. Anohagon Saelvios Rentaron, was aged 45, and his two daughters aged 10 and 7, when Flight AL-29 disappeared en route to Philadelphia, Washington.

It is understood that Rentaron was taking his daughters to visit the famous city, leaving at home his wife and his oldest child, Rhadaenar Saelvios Rentaron. Three years on, the now 17 year old Rhadaenar was approached for comment regarding the news. The new familial father of his family gave a statement, "The news that the search has been cancelled brings little relief to our family, but after three hard years, we can understand that whatever evidence may have been left has long since been claimed by the ocean. The loss of my sisters and father has been difficult, but we honour their memory regularly, and make offerings in the hope they found their way to the afterlife absent proper burial. All that can be done now is to ensure they are not forgotten, and we act only as they would see honourable."

The news is unlikely to have brought reassurance to many Pontic families who held out hope for closure, though the appeal for crucial information remains open.

Executor's Datrije tour kicks off
Executor Ralatsén began his 7-day tour of the Dátrije region today with a visit to farming towns along the border between Dátrije and Halamshiral. The Executor was joined by leaders of both Karthspiri and Romanian Communities in the region despite him having, so far, visited only Karthspiri dominated towns. On the first day of this visit, the Executor spent most of the day in the small community of Rudi. The Executor and his entourage met with the Local Priest to whom the Executor promised both repairs and an expansion for the local Church and Cemetary.

Just after lunch in the town's only café, Executor Ralatsén visited a vineyard in the North of the village. An old stone farmhouse sat atop a hill with acres of vines laid out in-front of it; vines which the Executor didn't find himself afraid to help the elderly vineyard owners with tending despite his own old age. Before leaving, the old couple gifted the Executor with a bottle of red "Executor's choice" wine which, if rumours are to be believed, was shared, and imbibed too generously, by both the Executor's entourage and the town.

Sanctions against Selia
The Sub-Executor Office for the Economy today announced sanctions on both goods and people belonging or originating in the Ephyral Freehold. The Office has banned the import of both Agricultural and Consumer Goods from the Freehold but decided to continue to allow imports of petroleum products and Capital Goods; the latter facing tariffs of 320% to protect domestic Karthspiri producers. The Office quickly brushed aside worried regarding potential shortages of petroleum products, should the Selians decide to restrict their own exports to us, by discussing the ongoing projects exploring both coal gassification techniques in the east of the country as well as the possibility of exploring oil reserves just off the shore of Xiralije.

A safer Dátrije?
As the sun rose above Lorenhir early this morning, another neighbourhood woke to the sound of gunfire and blast charges. The Sub-Executor Office for Dátrije is reporting that several houses on one street were raided by local police forces as part of an anti-terror operation to ensure the security of the Executor should he decide to visit the city as part of his Dátrije Grand Tour. The actions saw 5 terror suspects killed, 3 wounded and the remaining 7 taken safely into police custody with sentencing expected later this week.

Unusually, the Sub-Executor Office for Exterior Relations issued a statement on the matter. In a press conference shortly after the raids, the Office claimed several "sensitive" documents had been obtained from the cells; documents which allegedly link some of the State's terror groups with the Ephyral Freehold. The Office then explained that although no official policy changes were yet made on the basis of the documents ceased, the Freehold had been contacted to explain its actions in the region.

As our nation has progressively opened up to the wider world in the past decade, our people have found ever more opportunities open to them. It is no secret that our population has increased without precendent since the end of the war and our nation is struggling to cope with the ever growing waves of migration from the, ever mechanising, farms to the cities. Despite our nation's rapid industrialisation and development, both rural and urban, the influx of these disparate souls, combined with their relatively well-educated status thanks to the efforts of the Church and Government, has created a unique situation - slums filled with well educated but unemployed folk.

Karthspire's friendly relationship with Ascoobis, as well as its rapidly growing economy with an ever increasing need for skilled, educated workers, has been ceased upon by many of those finding their dreams of our nation's cities not fulfilling their expectations. The Government is reporting that several thousand have already migrated to Ascoobis with no estimate provided of how many more may be ready or willing to make the journey themselves. What's obvious is that our nation has no shortage of over-skilled, under-employed destitutes.

Black Sea fracas
With tensions in the Black Sea never disappearing, the Hegemony has taken it upon itself to secure peace and trade in the region. For three years now, our Air Force, a symbol of strength and innovation in the region, has patrolled the skies above the Black Sea. Sometimes, despite one's best intentions, accidents can occur. Early yesterday morning, a squadron of Karthspiri Fighter Jets accidentally entered Ephyral Airspace. The situation was not helped by the language barrier between the two. The pilots, however, reported that the frantic ramblings of the Ephyral Air controllers who contacted them alerted them to the problematic situation.

When pushed on the potential for reducing Black Sea patrols, the spokeswoman for the Sub-Executive Office of War laughed before ending the press conference.

Lost plane of Atlantis
The fate of flight AL-29 and its many souls has long been on the minds of many around our world. Unfortunately, it seems that fate may never be known due to the decision of the Pontic Government to halt its investigation into the flight. Despite the unknown fate of the flight, Patriarch Ara'iél, head of the Karthspiri Orthodox Church, held a special, memorial service in Elinhir for the passengers of the doomed flight.

Black Front Shut Down

Police breakup a rally by the Black Front
The nationalist group, Black Front, attempted to storm the offices of the Ministry of Diplomacy and Foreign Affairs yesterday in Lhasa. The thugs called him "An evil globalist sellout". The thugs started to throw Molotov cocktails at the building but were dispersed by local, federal and military police. The police opened with riot rounds and tear gas. Police then chased the thugs away with nightsticks drawn. Many of the black Front thugs were beaten by police officers before being handcuffed.Onlookers cheered the police and jeered at the thugs calling them "Tyrants" and "Socialists". One thug that was arrested was found to be a chairman of the National Syndicalist Party. A petition was submitted to the Lamas by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Ministry of Defense to investigate the National Syndicalist Party after they made remarks about foreign nations and an apparent connection between the two. The Lamas have released a statement saying

"These terrorist thugs are in no way a representation of the Tibetan People. They are instead a representation of the mad who wish for the nation to stagnate. They are racist and evil spirited individuals who will be dealt as such. The National Syndicalist Party will be investigated and if they are found to have a connection to the Black Front will have their seats removed from the Central Administration and will have their entire party banned"

That evening Black Front members attempted to stage a protest at the Central Lhasa Jail and were dispersed by police with more taken into custody. All were found to have knives in their pockets with instructions to attack the police and cause a riot at the jail.

Skar 1 Project Unveiled

The Tibetan Space Company unveiled their first project named Skar 1 or Star 1. The probe is a spherical 58 cm satellite. Skar 1 will be launched into low Earth orbit later in February. The mission task is to circle the planet and send back radio signals. The mission will be a cooperative one with significant help from the Ascoobian Space Agency.

Body Found

Police remove the body from Everest
A body was found not far above the Base Camp at Everest two days ago. A recently thawed out cavern was discovered by a local expedition team when the body was found laying on a sheet of snow and ice. The expedition crew contacted the local police and they, along with the medical examiner, ascended to the cave with a body bag and ropes to haul the body off the mountain. The task was dangerous as a cold front was moving in with heavy wind and snow. The crew managed to get the body off the mountain before the clouds rolled in. A monk said a quick prayer over the body before it was taken to the Medical Examiner Office in Lhasa. The identity of the body was not released nor was it's nationality. It was proven to be a member of the missing expedition from the 1950s where a group of Westerners and Tibetans went missing. The body of the Western body has not been recovered by any nation and is still kept in a freezer at the Medical Examiner Office in Lhasa. The Lamas asked nations if they knew of anyone that went missing abroad in Tibet to please contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Skar 1 Launched

Skar 1 liftoff

After many months of preparation the Skar 1 project was sent into space. At 6:00:00 am Galapagos Time and
8:00:00 pm in Lhasa, the rocket carrying Skar 1 was launched from the Ascoobian base in the Galapagos Islands. The Skar 1 satellite on board is expected to begin sending signals to the ground team by midnight Tibetan time and noon in the Galapagos Islands. Another team at Observatory Alpha in Lhasa will also receive a signal from the Skar 1 satrelite. The mission was a joint Tibetan-Ascoobian mission to launch a satellite into low orbit so it can send back a simple telemetry signal. If the mission is a success there is hope of more cooperative missions.

IWW Ditches Socialists

The trade union, Industrial Workers Of The World(IWW or Wobblies) have officially severed all ties from the Syndicalist Labour Front. The union followed the Mutualist Party and the Labour Party to the Libertarian Alliance. The IWW cited an increase in "Leftist Authoritarianism" in the Front and that "We believe that the Libertarian Alliance is the better alternative as they stand up for the individual's right to a free and fair market as opposed to cronyism and communism". This comes as a shock given most of the unions sided with the Left. The IWW was originally in what was called "Black Socialism" or non statist Socialism before the United Socialist was created. The Front splintered into two Fronts after the 1960 elections into the Syndicalist Labour Front and the National Socialist Front. The directors of the Libertarian Alliance issued a statement saying the IWW is welcome into the Front to help protect workers from exploitation by the state and cronies.
The Libertarian Alliance is an alliance of center to center right parties that promote "Individual Rights and Radically Free Markets". There are two "Left Libertarian" parties in the fold. The economic model of the Libertarian Alliance is a combination of Laisez Faire, Mutualism and Geoism. Many economists call the model "A Free Market with elements of Proudhonian Mutualism".

Local Unrest in Trankvilan Angola
The loyal foreign-state of Angola saw unrest today as the controversial pick of the new Prime Minister of Angola was seated by the Reĝino Ŝajnas. Many see the PM's appointment as a further dislocation of power from Luanda towards Trankvileco.

Debates in the Angolan House got heated to the point that Congress had to be disbanded by the Senate until further notice. The President has said that he will honor the selection of the new Prime Minister and work with him closely to keep the close relationship that Angola currently holds with its mother country.

Trankvila Reaches the Nuclear Age
It was in the second major city of the country, Solaris, that the Reĝino Ŝajnas cut the ribbon and witnessed the enabling of the nuclear reactor which is projected to be one of the first in the country to begin powering parts of its host city. Dozens of more reactors are set to be commissioned into service as construction continues
