Trouble in Bagongo (IC/CLOSED/MATURE THEMES)

Postby Bagongo » Sat Aug 17, 2019 12:12 pm

OOC WARNING: This RP is inspired by history of conflicts in the Great Lakes Region. It will involve depiction of genocide, ethnic cleansing and violence. By no means does the author support or endorse such measures.

I would also ask you not to post till Carloso & I clear you, as we have more to add!

No one ever knew where the Miyazenga and Butu came from. Many ethnologists created countless theories that clogged the literature in today's universities. Some say that the Miyazenga have invaded the region from the north and made the Butu their serfs. Others said that both groups had the same origin, and evolved into nationalities as tribal societies became more and more complex, creating the division of labor and first social structures. Yet others aid that the groups were simply an invention of the British colonialist, who created them to divide and conquer the region.

Regardless of weather the last theory was true, it certainly had a grain of truth in it.

The Miyazenga had, for centuries, held vast majority of land and resources and dominated the upper levels of society, as the Butu lived in hunger and poverty. Unequal access to land prevented the Butu from obtaining basic necessities - and thus, they resorted to violence. Early 1960s saw a wave of Butu terrorism that utterly terrified the Miyazenga until today - especially as the exiled Miyazenga president turned rebel leader, General Mugerwa, lost his own parents in that event. The hate had been growing progressively. Over twenty years ago, Mugerwa launched a coup d'tat to protect the Miyazenga influence. Now, thanks to the Butu protests, Mugerwa was out, but he managed to lead a successful guerilla campaign "to restore the rightful government". FROLIBO now effectively ran state within a state, and their armed force had limited conventional capabilities.

For two years, peace had been reigning in the land. Yet dark clouds are gathering once again, and soon the Butu and the Miyazenga will once again be at each other's throats....

*** Karaba, King Tchombe's International Airport

King Tchobme's international airport, named after a legendary ruler from the times old gone, was one of busiest places in the nation. Each day, planes that would have been by first world standard antiquated landed and took off, bringing new goods into the nation. The civilian aviation shared this airport with Bagongo's minuscule air force, which operated from here due to lack of funding. Aside from legitimate businesses, the airport served as a gateway into a world far less official, but very real - as the guards, underpaid and poorly motivated, eagerly closed eye on various kinds of less - than - legal cargo for a proper price.

Today, however, the airport functioned perfectly - as the president himself was visiting it. Michael Zuluka was an elderly man, with short, grey hair, extended cheekbones, wrinkles covering large forehead and a pair of small, deep set eyes. Dressed in a simple black suit, he stood now on a podium, announcing his departure:

"My friends, and fellow citizens of Bagongo" he started, supposedly smiling; but those who looked onto his face could see deeply hidden unease, even fear in his eyes "I have not been able to deliver a speech for a certain period of time. I have to apologize for that fact, as certain matters have kept me occupied. Be aware, however that those matters were issues of highest importance that could not have been delayed.

As you all may be aware, recently a large oil deposit was discovered, hidden among the depths of Lake Elizabeth. This deposit, while offering a chance to bring our people out of poverty, can also become a bone of discord for our people - something that I would not like to see happening. Long long ago, I have been fighting for the civil rights of the Butu population, to ensure that our kinsmen are free from oppression. Yet those goals have been, for the most part, concluded. Today, the administration has considerable number of Butus, and we have managed to include both ethnic groups in our government. In prospect of continued development, it's time for the bloodshed to end.
"

He paused, sighing deeply almost as if he was pronouncing something grave; fear now became even more visible. Quacking, Zuluka continued:

"Right now I am departing for a security summit in Gola, where I intend to seek possibilities of mediation international mediation in the current conflict. If Butu and the Miyazenga can not reach an agreement, hopefully other nations can. I know that many other nations, especially our Palmyri friends, have done a lot for us simply by being here and maintaining the peacekeeping contingent that currently monitors the ceasefire. Yet the cease-fire is not enough; this time, we have to bring a true peace, and disarmament of all groups participating in the war.

I hope that this journey will be a beginning of a new tomorrow for our troubled nation.
"

With that, the elderly president left the podium, and - escorted by two suit-clad bodyguards - headed into his limo, which took him into the plane. He boarded silent, without any words, constantly looking around as if a leopard hid behind every corner, just waiting to pounce on his unsuspecting prey. Seeing no danger, he sighed deeply in relief, and headed in.

With a loud roar of engines, the plane started. As it ascended into the air among the clear blue Afruikan skies, another sound roared. Like a lance of fire, a MANPADS missile tore from the neighboring rainforrest, darting upwards towards the presidential plane. It hit among fire and brimstone, as the plane cracked in two, shower of parts falling onto neighboring fields.

Michael Zuluka was dead.

*** Presidential Palace, several hours later

Arthur Bukenya was happy. The operation had succeeded, and now the long realized project could finally begin. When one looked at this bald, older, eternally smiling man, few could have imagined the amount of evil hiding under his happy face. Yet, it was there, and it was about to be unleashed on the nation. The seat was his; Zuluka would contain him no more.

He walked through the neo-classical halls of the presidential palace, a relic of times when the British reigned the land. On the walls, there were endless paintings and cultural artifacts; a warrior shield, a sagay spear, and a stuffed head of a lion. It was a good sign - a lion was the totem anima of the Butu, who constantly used it as part of their symbolism. Entering the hall, he looked upon a massive, wooden chair that the president usually occupied during various official events.

"So, good friend, how does it feel to hold power?" came a calm voice from the chair "You enjoy it, aren't you?"

Bukenya sweated, looking as if he came to the face with the devil himself. There on the chair, cross legged, sat Amihan Russel himself. The elusive financist with a god complex and enormous need for control over everything who had an enormous pull in the political and criminal underworld. His right eye gashed, his right hand gone, and a piece of metal embedded into his forehead like a little horn, giving the infamous manipulator a truly hellish look. A man supposedly dead, but here he was - just in front of him.

"Honored sir!" exclaimed Bukenya, lowering his eyes. With Russel's ego, one always had to be careful "If I knew you would come personally...."

"Spare me your whinning" said angrily Russel, rising from the chair and pointing at it with his single remaining hand "Do you see this chair? It's third time I have this conversation with a man who is supposed to sit on it. This time, however, I am going to personally ensure that everything is in order. Your two predecessors both failed. Mugerwa had cheated me, and Zuluka had proven to be a pussy who backed out from our plans at the last minute. You - YOU WILL DO NO SUCH FUCKING THING!" shouted Russel.

"My sir, I ensure..." Bukenya attempted to speak, but was cut off again.

"I said silence! Can't you get it!?" Russel roared on him again, causing the president to sweat "I. OWN. YOUR. S***OLE. OF A COUNTRY!" the banker continued shouting "Even now I can tell you of ten ways that I can cause this s***hole to collapse, and I am sure that my staff can tell me the next ten. Thus, you will do exactly as I say." Russel paused, visibly calming down "As you may or may or not - I don't really care - Lake Eliabeth was confirmed to hold enough oil to turn this country from a s***hole to a paradise in few years. Now, I can't have Blacksands, Riysan sheikhs, or forbid it, the Nifonese trash laying their dirty hand's on it, can I?"

The banker visibly smiled:

"With Zuluka's death we have killed two birds with one stone. Use the situation to demonize the Miyazenga. Accuse them of racism; you will figure something. After all, I have already purchased all the media outlets I could so you will have that task very easy..." Russel smiled again "Once the flames of conflict burn hot again, you will invade the south and bring me Mugerwa's head. I can't have him spoiling my enterprises again. Then, you will secure the oil reserves for me, and use remaining Miyazenga as a slave labor. Tell the international community that it's a forced reparation for years of discrimination that they have to work out" the financist laughed "In turn, you have 30%. Do we have a deal?"

Bukenya lowered his eyes again. It was never a good idea to deny anything to this man. What else could he do than agree?

"Of course, sir. I agree." he almost whispered, his voice quacking.

"Then that's great" Russel smiled, as he started to put on his disguse again, before heading towards the secret entry to the presidential palace, where a group of trusted mercenaries waited for him to move him out of the country. While dangerous, those trips gave him a thrill he needed after hours of hiding in a skyscrapper in UCK, leaving the sweating president behind.

"Don't fail me..." Russel said as he disappeared as silently as he had entered.

PRESIDENTAL PLANE DOWN!
Karaba - Bagongo: Over 115 government officials are feared dead as a MANPADS missile had hit the plane carrying president Michael Zuluka and his entire staff as they headed for Gola for a security summit organized by Organisation for Cooperation in Afruika.

The criminal deed was witnessed shortly after the presidential plane took off. While the identity of the preparator is currently unknown, the leaks from sources in the security aparatus say that it was a work of rogue Miyazenga elements, who hated Michael Zuluka for being a symbol of peaceful civil rights struggle against oppression of the Miyazenga racism.

Acting president Arthur Bukenya already delivered an official statement. "Michael Zuluka had been a symbol for us all, someone who should have received a peace prize for the outstanding job he did in removing discrimination in this country. An attack on this symbol is an attack on all Butu and the very idea of progress and equality. Let it be known that preparator of this vile crime shall be brought to justice".

Meanwhile the FRLIBO media representative had already included an official statement of the rebel group denying participation in the assassination. While the group's claim may be taken seriously by some people, it appears unlikely as the Miyazenga have a long history of aggression and desire for dominance, beginning with their conquest of the area currently constituting Bagongo.

Perhaps violent actions of the Miyazenga will finally open the eyes of international opinion to the threat posed by the terrorist organization known as FROLIBO, leading to it's final liquidation.

*** Nabbona, Bagongo

There were not many words to describe what was currently taking place in Nabbona, central Bagongo. Hundreds of people had gathered on a hillside overlooking the village. Deafening drum beats and chanting guided the rhythm of the procession of light up the slope, everybody swaying like one great organism. Couples engaged in sporadic, mystical sexual intercourse on the peripheries of the spectacle, interrupted by sudden bursts of gun fire into the air. In the centre of the crowd, a clearing had been made, where a completely naked man was executing an elaborate dance, wearing only a plastic bag over his head that was adorned with feathers and flowers. Behind him, a sort of rectangle firepit was burning brightly, flames licking high into the skies above. This man was General Ass Nude; real name Nsamba Ssebugulu, one of the most feared men in all of Bagongo. What was being practised here was the syncretic religion known as Yawoho, a faith which had a long tradition in Bagongo, being practised by many members of the Butu tribe in one form or another, though typically not in such an extreme manner as was happening now. Yawoho; which roughly translates to 'spirit way' in the BwaKunga language, incorporated many beliefs from different religions, ranging from traditional animist beliefs and idol worship, to certain elements of Gnosticism and Sufism that had influenced the region through trade with outsiders.

Suddenly, Ass Nude ceased dancing and glared at the crowd around him with wild, bloodshot eyes. This sort of behaviour was his normal, having participated in human sacrifice and routine cannibalism since he was a child. In many parts of Bagongo that had been mostly untouched by civilization, it was considered extremely brave and heroic to kill and eat your enemies in order to absorb their spirit. During the war with FROLIBO between 2012 and 2017, he fought in a government militia and became universally feared for his inhuman behaviour in battle, almost always fighting with no clothes on; hence his nickname, and further claiming to be protected and made invisible during battle by magic spells. Obviously this wasn't true, but accounts of him in battle led some to compare his conduct to the 'torque' which was said to have possessed the Irish mythical hero Cú Chulainn every time he went into battle against an enemy army. With tensions in Bagongo at boiling point once more following the shoot down of President TBA's plane, Ass Nude now found himself at the head of his own pro-Butu militia. After a few seconds, he turned his gaze towards the sky and began chanting something,

"OOOGA BOOGA, BOOGA OOGA. WHEN MUGERWA IS DEAD, ME TAKE HE HEAD, AND EAT HE FLESH. STILL HOT, WARM FRESH. ALL RIGHT!? BUTU STRENGTH, BUTU MIGHT!"

In no time, nearly everyone had descended into what could be described as a trance-like state, and were repeating General Ass Nude's chant over and over again, getting louder and louder to the point that the ground was rumbling with their fervour. Just as quickly, the chanting ceased, and only the low beat of drums and the sound of chirping crickets could be heard. Ten young, virgin priestesses in flowing white dresses moved forwards, each of them holding two voodoo dolls, one in each hand. They walked confidently towards the fire pit, the intervals between the beats of the drums growing shorter and shorter as they got nearer. Completely synchronised, the priestesses silently dropped the twenty dolls into the fire, producing a mighty roar of flames, much to the delight of the crowd. This was a very good sign, meaning that what they had been praying for would almost certainly be realised in the near future. General Ass Nude was now smiling manically, knowing that the death of President Zuluka would be rightfully avenged with Miyazenga blood. As spontaneous celebration erupted amongst the crowd, he suddenly turned around and raised his right hand so everyone would listen to what he was about to say.

"Butu brothas and sistas, beast people call themselves 'Miyazenga' summon an evil spirit to kill me loved brotha President Zuluka. On me life, I promise that Miyazenga animals will be slaughtered and eaten and Bagongo country will be for Butu alone! Parade Mugerwa body through Karaba and eat he flesh for whole world to see! Then everyone learn that Butu tribe not messed with!" The crowd were immediately electrified, breaking down in sheer expressions of joy at the thought of members of their brother tribe, men, women and children, being massacred wholesale.

*** Two hours laters

The festivities were finally beginning to die down, the people retiring to the village for the night. Ass Nude himself returned to his personal hut located in a clearing on the outskirts of Nabbona, laying in a bed of animal skins and surrounded by his equally naked harem of young women that he had collected from his various adventures. While he 'played' with the girls, he almost didn't notice one of his lieutenants walk into the hut. As a man with no shame, Ass Nude simply waved his girls away and rose quiet nonchalantly from his bed when he finally realised another man was there. So confident in his abilities as a warrior, Ass Nude didn't see the need to have any form of security around him, not when he was protected by magic powers that allowed him to dodge bullets.

"Musubaho my friend! If you had come sooner, you could of had one of my girls!" General Ass Nude joked, "My brotha Zuluka will be avenged, yes?"

Musubaho was a tall, well-built man, not nearly as savage as Ass Nude. A man from the city, he wore full military fatigues and a beret, with an eyepatch covering his left eye. He had lost it to a gunshot wound he suffered during a confrontation with FROLIBO. In many respects, he was the brains behind Ass Nude's legend, naturally talented in the application of tactics and absolutely dauntless out on the battlefield.

"The Cubs are in position for the operation." he replied, "The National Assembly is due to meet for an emergency session soon with the deaths of so many of our brothers. It is expected that every member of the NA that is alive will be present, both Butu and Miyazenga. Spirits willing, we will avenge every single death inflicted on our tribe."

Not giving away too much away, General Ass Nude had already put his harrowing plot for revenge in motion, fuelled by his utter hatred for the Miyazenga. In the capital city of Karaba, his feared Lion Cubs Battalion of child soldiers were making their final preparations for what Ass Nude had in mind for his enemies. If the death of Zuluka wasn't enough to restart the war in Bagongo, then this certainly would. There would be no going back.

*** Karaba, Bagongo

The downing of the late President Zuluka's plane had created an atmosphere of deep unease in the capital of Bagongo. In the wake of the deaths of so many government officials aboard the aircraft, an emergency session of the National Assembly had been called to address the crisis, and politicians had flocked from all corners of the country to attend. As one of the more affluent parts of the country, one could say that many people in Karaba had started to forget about the Butu-Miyazenga conflict, but the latest unrest had put an end to that hope. For the first time in a while, neighbours were starting to look at each other with deep suspicion, aided by a media that appeared to be profiting hugely from exploiting the divisions. If the carnage seen in previous wars was bad, this time it was going to be much worse.

A yellow school bus lined with galvanized steel and tyres rounded a corner approaching Assembly House. What looked like an old wedge plough that had once been attached to a train had been welded onto the front of the bus. It was flying a large, black flag from its rear, emblazoned with an image of a lion cub holding a knife in its mouth. The gates of Assembly House were in sight for the 17 year old behind the wheel. He drove the bus forward at full speed, cars on both sides of the road swerving in all directions to get out of the way. The security guards protecting the building were caught completely off guard, beginning to panic as it came closer, faster and faster with everyone second, only able to fire off barrages of small arms fire. It was pointless in the end, as any bullet that landed on the bus just ricocheted off the metal plating that was protecting most of the front of the bus, including the driver. They were out of options; everyone could only jump out of the way, escaping by the skin of their teeth as the school bus smashed the gates right open. It came to a screeching halt in the open area before Assembly House, an eery silence falling as the nervous guards waited for whatever was inside to emerge.

Then, like a swarm of ants, they emerged from every door of the bus, guns blazing and ripping apart everyone who had surrounded the vehicle. The platoon of child soldiers completely overwhelmed the security guards. One held an RPG-7 that was longer then he was tall, landing a shot on a watchtower that had been used by security and killing whoever was inside. Once everyone outside had been dispatched, most of them then proceeded to charge right for the entrance to Assembly House, drunk on bloodlust and hell bent on slaughtering every Miyazenga they came across. A savage battle cry went up as gunshots echoed through the halls.

Several minutes later, the Lion Cubs appeared in the visitors gallery overlooking the Assembly chamber, catching everyone by surprise. With no great hesitation, they released a barrage of gunfire onto the side of the chamber where the members of the Miyazenga-dominated Bagongo Freedom Party were seated, killing dozens of them quickly. In the chaos that ensued, every person was running for their lives, but the sheer amount of people in the National Assembly meant that it was quiet difficult for them to get out, causing a stampede. This just made the job of the Lion Cubs easier, who kept firing at the Miyazenga politicians as they tried to get out through a side entrance. Despite the frenzy, the child soldiers tried their best not to kill any Butu politicians, though there was bound to be collateral damage. Once the crowd had been thinned enough, a few of the Lion Cubs descended into the chamber using rope and hunted down any Miyazenga that were hiding under or behind their chairs. By the time the massacre was over, 174 people lay dead at the heart of Bagongo's supposed democracy, overwhelmingly of Miyazenga ethnicity. Their blood stained every corner of the building.

RIGHTEOUS VENEGANCE OF THE BUTU!
Karaba, Bagongo - 175 representatives of Miyazenga ethnicity have been slain by the members of a patriotic volunteerunit, the Lion Cubs Battalion, in a retaliatory raid at the parliament of Bagongo. The raid had been carried following the destruction of the presidential plane and death of president Michael Zuluka.

The raid happened in early morning hours. A reinforced school bus tore through the gates of parliament, as a platoon-sized unit of said formation emerged. The unit then entered an emergency parliament session and opened fire at the sector occupied by the racist Bagongo Freedom Party.

The terroristic organization of FROLIBO had already released a statement condemning the massacre and announcing their withdrawal from Gola accords. The former dictator Mugerwa called for a renewal of armed campaign against the legitimate government of Bagongo. It's here that we need to remind our readers that despite their seeming status as victims, the Miyazenga oppressors behind FROLIBO have perpetuated a centuries long reign of terror and oppression against the innocent Butu population.

His excellency Arthur Bukenya, in an official statement, distanced himself from the actions carried by the Lion Cubs Battalion, informing the international community that said units are not part of any government-sponsored forces and as such, can not be taken for actions or stances of the government. However, he underlined the fact that the attack was an "act of passion of revenge" for the "cold blooded murder of our martyred hero, Zuluka" and as such, no members of the Lion Cubs Battalion will be prosecuted.

"The incident raises some questions about the Miyazenga issue and terroristic activities of FRLIBO. While our government is committed to values of tolerance, equality and progress, we understand that progress has it's price, and at times that price is ugly. The cold blooded murder of Michael Zuluka shows us that the Miyazenga have to be forcefully taught equality, and as such, the campaign to bring Bagongo into the modern age will officially begin."

His excellency responded to the FROLIBO's information of withdrawal from Gola accords that "Bagongo Defense Force is finally ready to complete what we have started following ousting of dictator and terrorist Mugerwa".

Six hours.

All it took for Bagongo to go down in flames was six hours.

Rwenjura mountains formed a long, stretching chasm on the Yughanna - Bagongo border, towering over the neighboring landscape like a group of massive titans, looking at it from below. The neighboring area contained some of Afruika's tallest peaks, as well as a wide range of geographical zones, ranging from jungles, through alpine meadows, ending on white - tanned snow-covered peaks. Sometimes, the zones clearly diverged, sometimes they overlapped, creating a strange landscape of tropical plants covered by snow. The mountains stretched horizontally like a massive line, and at their feet lied a massive mining town known as Burui. It would have probably remained a little - known backwater city - had it not become headquarters of the rebellion.

Ever since the Miyazenga rebels crossed the border, they made the Rwenjura mountains one of their main bases of operation. Hardly accessible terrain, and the fact that the local area is where general Mugerwa was coming from, easily permitted FROLIBO to nest in this area like plague. Soon, from their bases hidden among caves and valleys, and led by defecting Miyaenga officers, FROLIBO launched a massive armed campaign that almost completely drove the government forces out of the area. The time of subsequent cease-fire was not spent in vain - the former insurgents were now transitioning into a semi-regular force with limited conventional capabilities, eagerly buying new armaments and contracting support from outside.

A couple of dozen kilometers from Burui, in an area covered by a dense set of tropical vegetation, lied an underground headquarters of the insurgency. Ever since the war begun, the insurgents were digging like mad, drilling endless meters of underground tunnels that acted as shelter for their troops and protection from the prying eyes of government aviation, which repeatedly hovered over their heads even during the peace time. This particular tunnel was not an ordinary one - it currently hosted a meeting of the FROLIBO's general staff, which, based upon recent events, was going to be an extremely important one.

There sat General Mugerwa - a man with a massive nose, extended forehead, large, round beard of black hair connecting over his wide mouth with a thick set of black mustache. The former dictator of Bagongo was dressed rather modestly for a man of his station, with a simple woodland camouflage uniform and a red beret on his head. Yet, despite that, one could see seriousness and determination on his face.

The striking of writing machines and humming sound of a couple computers that all in more developed world would have considered antiquate filled the air as former dictator looked at the men assembled in front of him. Before him, stood commanders of FROLIBO's four main brigades, awaiting to receive orders; as well as members of his own staff. All of them were former highly ranked officers in Bagongo Defense Force, who defected to the rebels when the insurgency begun, leaving the government's side crippled without it's most capable officers. As the result, many were promoted on spot, often with disastrous results for the Butu.

"Brothers and sisters!" Mugerwa rose his arms in the air "I do not need to hide the importance of the situation from you. The dark elements of our country are once again rising against our tribe. They seek to kill our men, take our women, conquer our land and sell our children into slavery. This can not be permitted. The deplorable massacre of our representatives will be met with justice!"

To say Mugerwa was a bad man was improper, for the dictator certainly improved the economic situation in the region. Coming from a family that had ties to the Miyazenga royalty, he was seen as a natural candidate for a leader. During his old days, he would have certainly called himself seriously flawed - for shortly after assuming power, the power changed him. He became obsessed with himself, pride filling his chest like an inflated baloon. Looking back at the old days, Mugerwa wondered if his fall wasn't God's plan, and how, seriously humbled, he was about to be restored to his old position.

Neither did Mugerwa hate the Butu - though in his old days, he certainly did. After all, his parents were killed by a Butu terrorist in what was known as "The Great Storm". Resulting bloodshed developed in the young army cadet an idea that only a strong, centralized society can bring any progress in this dark, savage land. To him, Butu were a group that easily fell to it's passions, as evidenced by recent events - and he, as a Miyazenga, would always prioritize his tribe first, despite his unwillingness to do so. "You may proceed."

"The situation is clear as you may know" spoke general Milton Bula, who fulfilled the role of chief of intelligence in Mugerwa's staff "The dirt people have finally came up to finish the job. I personally won't regret that - citing all the new Butu asses I will claim soon."

Mugerwa turned his face in disgust. General Milton Bula was a person who always was never liked by the former dictator, but at the same time, was kept at his office because his talent at getting his job done was sufficient enough. One of his major flaws was that he saw Butu as cattle, with which Miyazenga could do whatever he wished. Even with his all his attempts, Mugerwa could only do so much - even he could not prevent darker part of human nature from manifesting in his soldiers.

"You will do no such thing." one, harsh sentence from the Miyazenga leader woke the cheif of intelligence from his erotic dreams "but continue."

"As I was saying" Bula continued, dissatisfied with his bounty being denied to him "Armed conflict is unavoidable as of now. The government has announced it's intention to "renew the anti terrorist operation in the South" - which means that the dirt men will come against us. Now, as you may aware, the only crossing that currently exists is in Kayogoro. I am suspecting that one of their units will move to intercept it soon. The first assault will likely come from the 3rd Mahwan Infantry Division advancing from direction of Lake Elizabeth. This unit will pose the most direct threat to our bases in Rwenjura mountains. Against us are likely to be arrayed 1st Kigali Infantry Division and 2nd Luga River Infantry Division, but their advance across the river will be restricted by need to construct crossings, albeit the mechanized infantry regiment contained in the 2nd Inf. Div. would be able to likely act as advance guard. 5th Mugusan Armored Division will likely remain in reserve, but should the government chose to commit it, getting it to the front lines would require a certain amount of time, as well as stable crossings to resupply. That would be all. "

Bula left the place in front of the map. Mugerwa slowly rose from his seat and gestured to his cheif of staff to come with him:

"My concept of operations" he begun "is to establish defensive positions here in Rwenjura mountains. Our force is too small to defend the entire area we have managed to gain from the government, thus we will focus our efforts in the mountainous areast around Burui. Citing the shape of the terrain in Rwenjura mountains, as well as dense tropical rainforests to our back, we can safely assume that the terrain is to our advantage, limiting avenues of approach and the advantage the Butu posess by having the heavy equipment. In addition, thanks to our honored friend General Kabangele " Mugerwa blinked to his cheif of engineering operations, whose main task was usually conscripting civilians to dig next set of fortifications that FROLIBO was preparing in peacetime "We have a set of prepared positions we can exploit. With that, I therefore relay my orders."

Mugerwa pointed on the map:

"I therefore order the 1st Brigade to conduct a holding manouevere against 3rd Mahwan Infantry Division. The holding manouevere is to be conducted in place of Brigade Commander's choosing, but the force is to be halted at any cost." it was always like that - simple, mission type orders with decentralized execution to compensate for limitations in C4I possessed by the insurgents "2nd and 3rd brigade are to be on an overwatch for the advance of remaining forces. They are to conduct holding manoueveres against the incoming forces as well. The 4th Infantry Brigade, Presidental Guard Battalion and the 15th Armored Battalion would be stationed in vicinity of the city of Burui under heavy C3D2 as an operational reserve to counter new developments and eventual landings. Finally, the self defense battalions will be tasked with defending the assigned areas, as well as gathering the Miyazenga refugees and arming them - I hope that soon we will be able to transform those battalions into three new brigades. During the operations, engineering and logistical support will come from friendly or conscripted civilians, as specified by our laws. Lt. Col. Mukendi will be in charge of the media and building the positive image of FROLIBO. Finally, should everything fail, it's important that we form a corridor to Yughanna, to which we will withdraw, and regroup in the border rainforrests, to launch a new counterattack. Now, any questions?"

"Just one, sir!" the mentioned officer rose his hand "What about the thousands of our Miyazenga brothers in the territories we have abandoned? We are leaving them to their deaths... "

Mugerwa looked down:

"And we know too well that we can't protect them all. Let's just hope that they escape in time before the worst of the Butu come..." replied the former president in a grim voice, thinking about so called "General Ass Nude". His militia was unlikely to find itself at the frontline, preferring to slaughter helpless Miyazenga behind them. But such was war in Afruika - no one was holy in this dark land. And sometimes, you had to make a hard choice for a greater good.

10 Commandments of BamButu

Postby Bagongo » Mon Aug 26, 2019 6:49 am

OOC: I would like to note that the author, OOCly DOES NOT SUPPORT anything contained in this manifesto.

OPINION: WHAT SHALL BE OUR FINAL SOLUTION TO THE MIYAZENGA PROBLEM?
It's time to finally admit it; our country has a very serious problem. That problem is not famine - for there is a cause of the famine, the fact that our lands were taken away by them. The problem is not drought - for if it wasn't for them, we could have survived somehow. It's not lack of education - for they deprived us of it! It's not the lack of representation, equality and outright political tyranny - for they are the root of it all. The problem with Bagongo is not singular, but an entire group of people; the Miyazenga.

Ever since they have invaded our lands all those years ago, the Miyazenga took our lands, killed our men, raped our women and sold our children into slavery. They set up a tyranical and discriminatory social structure, with themselves at the top, and everyone else beneath them. While they swam in luxuries, we endlessly tilled whatever piece of land we were assigned by our Miyazenga overlord.

We thought that with advent of democratic process, we could somehow sort it out. But no - they started using the institutions to give themselves more power. Right now, they prove that fact by killing the man who would have been a model for Nelson Mandela himself, and launching a violent armed insurgency just because they do not want to give away their position in society nor share their wealth with others.

It's time to acknowledge that the Butu ideology is more than just a political squabble; it's fight for the very soul of our nation. And warriors fighting in this war need a code. Here is the list of ten most important practices that all the Butu need to implement:

10 Commandments of BamButu

1. No Butu shall marry or take as his concubine a Miyazenga woman. It's noteworthy to note that every Miyazenga woman serves only good of her tribe, and will try to turn the children into Miyazenga supporters. Instead, the Butu men shall take Butu women as their wives and secretaries, and no Butu man will spawn mongrel children with the enemy.

2. It's a duty of each Butu woman to carefully motivate her husband to take part in the cause of our national liberation from Miyazenga tyranny and oppression.

3. No Butu man shall conduct business relations with the Miyazenga, for every Miyazenga is by his nature self serving and concerned only with well-being of his tribe.

4. Bagngo, is by nature of majority, a nation belonging to the Butu. As such, all important offices should be held by the Butu and Butu alone.

5. Likewise, all important offices in education and the media shall be held by Butu alone.

6. Each Butu man should be eternally aware of the true nature of the Miyazenga, their treachery and tendency for racism and surpremacism. As such, when acting for good of the Butu tribe, the man shall never show any pity to the Miyazenga oppressor.

7. All Butu should abandon internal squabbles and focus on fighting the Miyazenga oppressor. All who refuse to do so are traitors to the cause of liberation of our tribe, and as such, should be properly punished.

8. The Butu will never cease to demand the Miyazenga a proper compensation for centuries of oppression, with may be performed either through monetary payments or manual labor for the good of Butu population.

9. All Butu brothers will fight the oppressor as long as there is even a drop of blood in their veins. No surrender will be offered to the tyrants and slavers. Martyrdom of Michael Zuluka will forever rest in our hearts.

10. All the Butu will obey the commands of the supreme leader of the Butu, his excellency Arthur Bukenya, in memory of Butu martyr Michael Zuluka.

With these commandments in mind, we shall overcome our foes!

Palmyrion Presents...
A TALE OF DARK HEARTS

Deep within...we're all just animals who can reason - and hold prejudice.

Listen. (Best listened to during rainfall as I am doing now)

If there was anything common between Palmyrion and Bagongo, then it would be their histories as colonies, thrust rudely into the world as they gained independence, and suffering from the chaos befalling them as both nations, with blood, sword, and hearts of light and darkness, sought to know themselves, to get up on their feet, to know what it’s like to be a nation in the midst of the void left in their newfound nationhood created by centuries of colonial oppression and sociocultural repression.

However, fate was kinder to Palmyrion, as the Royal Commonwealth gained her independence on 1800, and industrialized starting on the 1810s - but the Dark Era awaited, lasting from 1912 to 1984, resulting into Palmyrion losing 125 million people to internal strife: war, crime, disease, hunger, and poverty working together to create a downward spiral, reducing the pre-Dark Era population of 1 billion to 875 million by 1984. After the Dark Era came a period of recovery and eventual emergence into the international scene as Palmyrion sustained a 12-year long industry-driven economic boom during the opening decade of the millennium, lifting hundreds of millions out of poverty, improving living standards, and developing much of the economic complex that currently feeds the nation-state that is Palmyrion - and not even the Northern Troubles and the recent assassination of their former monarch whittled Palmyrion into an internal security mess.

Bagongo’s story, however, was different - and one that was the complete opposite of Palmyrion’s history.

Nobody knew the origins of the Butu and Miyazenga tribes in Bagongo that are currently locked in intense ethnic hatred against each other - and it was understandable so, as for centuries the Miyazenga held much, if not all, of the social, political, and economic capital of Bagongo, while the Butu were left crawling in the dust, figuratively (and perhaps literally) living on the crumbs of the Miyazenga. British colonial rule only deepened this divide as Miyazenga were given access to Western education and economic knowledge - and the Butu, as usual, were left in the dust. The Bagongolese gained their independence in the 1960s, but were soon ruled by a Miyazenga monarchy, whose overthrown preceded a massive wave of ethnic terrorism - Butus targeting the Miyazenga, perhaps as revenge for centuries of oppression. Paul Mugerwa’s coup probably only made things worse for Bagongo, as a period of relative economic development that Mugerwa, later overthrown by a color revolution, initiated only deepened the wealth divide between the Butu and Miyazenga. The BDF-FROLIBO war on 2012-2017 resulted into the Gola Accords, with Palmyrion being one of the peacekeeping forces present in the region. Elections, despite the efforts of local authorities and on-station peacekeeping forces to safeguard them, didn’t solve the problem, and with the death of President Zuluka being blamed on FROLIBO followed by a retaliatory attack against Miyazenga politicians by the Lion Cubs Battalion, chaos is set to ensue again - and will Combined Joint Task Force-Operation Salving Truce hold its ground?

Camp Maginhawa, 5km NNE of Tirame, Bagongo

Palmyrion was one of the designated peacekeeping forces in the region as per the Gola Accords - and the peacekeeping force was a mere 1,000 troops, composed of a headquarters company, two CDF gendarme companies, two Army motorized infantry companies, two airlift detachments (each with 4 Il-76PM), two helicopter detachments (each with 4 Mi-17PM), a UAV detachment of four drones, an attached aviation ground crew, and a sustenance and support company. Camp Maginhawa was their main base of operations, at this point a glorified row of Quonset huts and containerized buildings alongside a pair of runways made from M8A1 Marston Mats.

Lieutenant Colonel Leonard Topacio woke up from a sweet slumber on his reclining chair to a Spotify ad blaring on his wireless Bluetooth speaker. Higher command just authorized letting the base have a satellite-based internet connection, with WiFi hotspots only at select areas of the base, and subject to disconnection at the discretion of LTC Topacio or CJTF-OST’s S6 staff. Afterwards the Spotify ad ended, playing ”Eternal” by Lady Heroine as Topacio arose from his reclining chair and approached a mirror, looking at a freshly awakened - and slightly groggy - him reflected on the mirror. Topacio brushed his hair backwards and rubbed his eyes as he woke himself up.

”Good morning you bastard...” Topacio said to his reflection as he looked away at the mirror and exited his quarters, after which he stumbled into the command center as the headquarters staff, some already ending their night shifts and some just about to begin their day shifts, scurried around. ”OIC on deck!” one of the staff members exclaimed upon seeing Topacio exit from his quarters, to which Topacio responded with ”At ease”.

He approached the central table where his senior staff - his S1, S2, S3, S4, and S6 chiefs - were already awaiting him, with the table filled with neatly-ordered piles of paperwork concerning the recent developments in Bagongo.

”Staff, bigyan niyo ako ng SITREP. (Staff, give me a SITREP.) Topacio commanded as soon as he got to the table while the senior staff were just about to finish analyzing the buttload of paperwork they lost a good amount of sleep over. ”Just. Bad. News. Sir.” the S1 told him calmly, even though the situation he was about to describe was grim. ”Pinatay si Zuluka ng mga hinihinalang FROLIBO, at rumesbak ang mga Butu.” (Zuluka was killed presumably by FROLIBO militants, and the Butu did payback.) he added, as he handed over a short printed report by the S2 section about the incidents.

”Sinalakay ng Lion Cubs Battalion - mga batang sundalo ng Butu - ang Assembly House sa Karaba. 174 ang pinaslang, karamihan sa kanila mga pulitiko ng Miyazenga.” (The Lion Cubs Battalion - child soldiers of the Butu - raided the Assembly House at Karaba. 174 were slain, most of them Miyazenga politicians.) the S2 chief said as he handed an ANO newspaper headlining the incident.

Topacio took his time to read the report’s abstract, after which he read the ANO newspaper his S2 chief handed over to him, and took a look at the drone photos of some of the debris from the interception of Zuluka’s presidential plane. For Topacio, it was a lot for a freshly awakened brain to internalize and compartmentalize, considering that everything just happened in the short time span of six fucking hours - and waking up to bad news wasn’t exactly what any person would want either.

”Right. I-triangulate niyo ang crash site ng eroplano, tapos inform me kung feasible ang isang search mission. (Triangulate the crash site of the airplane, then inform me if a search mission is feasible.) [b]”Mag-aalmusal muna ako.” (I’ll be eating breakfast first.) Topacio said - but not before his S4, still on the same table, called his attention for some “good news.”

”Sir, good news, sir. Baka gusto niyong marinig..” (You may want to hear it.) the S4 said, with Topacio turning his attention to him.

”Ano ‘yan?” (What is it?) Topacio replied.

”May dumating na bagong kagamitan, sir. Apat na HALE drones, tapos mga bagong armored vehicles, sir.” (Four HALE drones and new armored vehicles, sir.) the S4 replied, to much of Topacio’s pleasure.

”Magaling. Magaling. Gusto ko silang makita. (Good, good. I want to see them.) Topacio replied. "Juarez, dalhin mo 'ko sa bagong shipment natin. The rest of you, kayo na ang bahala sa operations at plans." Topacio said, as he and his S4 chief exited the command center and walked to the tarmac were the newly-landed Il-76PMs were unloading their cargo: four new HALE drones, FV.3 Pitbull LAVs, and FV.4 mine-resistant armored 6x6 trucks and their APC derivatives.

Topacio and his S4 chief headed to the canteen to get some breakfast, while they discussed over the capabilities of their new gear - but the S4 told him, so as to build up the anticipation for a visibly hangry - worn, distressed, and hungry - Topacio. The breakfast:
  • Fried rice - the all ubiquitous golden rice (so named for its golden coloration), mixed with minced garlic, and fried with egg.
  • Chicken mung bean soup with tomato and spinach, seasoned with minced garlic, minced onions, and black pepper.
  • Grilled chicken, marinated in black peppercorn, and served with mushroom gravy.
  • Coffee (dispensed from a coffee dispenser), with sugar and creamer for soldiers to apply on their coffee to taste.
A filling and nutritious meal, combined with coffee, was what Topacio needed to get started with the day and not be a "hangry" haggard of a commanding officer-in-charge of the 1,000-strong joint task force - and the exciting shipment is icing on the cake, and valuable assets for the peacekeeping force (but the new AFVs would be permanently new equipment for the motorized infantry companies anyways, as Palmyrion is modernizing its military).

Camp Maginhawa, 5km NNE of Tirame, Bagongo
31 August 2019 | 0639H

The Il-76PMs - Palmyrian Modernized versions of the Il-76PM - were arrayed on the tarmac, their rear ramps opened as the ground crew helped unload the cargo the planes carried: the all-new armored vehicles and the HALE drones that would become some of the peacekeeping force's most valuable assets. They were a significant step-up from Palmyrion's relatively dated gear: BTR-70PMs that couldn't stand up to 8kg of TNT going off below it, and Palmyrion's sore lack of drones.

Topacio and his S4 chatted over the loud roar of the Il-76PMs' jet engines as they idled while the cargo was being unloaded, specifically about how these military gear were a step up compared to Palmyrion's old gear.

"The FV.3. Light Armored Vehicle "Pitbull". 24 tons of brute force, no more, no less. It's got a 30x200mm autocannon, a coaxial NSV, and a missile launcher. Fire control system is highly updated, with an EHF radar and a smart electro-optical targeting system. Armor can resist 30mm upfront and 14.5mm from the sides and rear, in addition to resisting a 8kg TNT blast from beneath the floor. the S4 explained.

"Nice. Magaling, magaling." (Nice. Good, good.) Topacio replied.

"Sa drones naman tayo, sir?" (Shall we go to the drones, sir?) the S4 said, as both he and Topacio looked at the drones - or, at least, their parts (as they ere disassembled for transport) - being unloaded from the plane. "Sure." Topacio replied.

"Not much ang masasabi ko, pero eto: synthetic aperture AESA radar with moving target indicator, and 1080p multi-spectral glory, at 30 hours ng continued, real-time ISR." the S4 continued.

"So, kailan na tayo gagawa ng aerial ISR?" (so when are we going to do aerial ISR?) Topacio asked. "Your call, sir." the S4 replied.

A MCNERNIA PRODUCTION:

UNTO THE HEART OF IT

“Blessed are the Peacemakers for they shall be called the Children of God”
Matthew 5:9

Economic Troubles were nothing new to Mcnernia as the prosperous times of Empire had given way to lean times and from the lean times came more that were prosperous and yet lean. The Mcnernians had been unsure of their place within SACTO and so the ventures with New Edom had led to the Cornellian fiasco. The Kings Gaffe and the incident in Ayaca had been the death knell of the five-year long government of Andrew Holtworth. Now Albert Shapter the Cabinet and Consitutional Affairs Minister had been elected Prime Minister in a Confidence Vote. The Mcnernian economy had seen a withdrawal from Cornellian investment. New Edom may cut off oil so the Mcnernians looked over the world. They found Bangongo.

The little nation at the heart of a dark continent was full of oil. And Mcnernia had a need, for lighter oil, the kind of crude that was not requiring a lot of things to refine. The capitalist class of Mcnernia had sought new resources, with the loss of the New Columbia oil acess the demand went up a little bit.

Stock markets were somewhat in a tumble.

People were unsure about the Libertarian Party and their ability to govern.

The Party donors said that donations would be rather large if the oil could be in part secured by the Mcnernians.

The Mcnernian Prime Minister had considered the idea and made Overatures to the Palmyrions and so the PM made preparations to sit down with the Ambassador for the Commonwealth. So that they could present a plan to the OAC.

Cathcride, Mcnernia
Several Thousand Kilometers from Bagongo
Offices of the Prime Minister, 1445Hrs Local Daylight Time

The Prime Minister smiled and sipped his iced tea. It was summer and so that meant that it was warm in the river valley which Cathcride was situated in, best to have the fan going and a cool drink as you look over the report from Parliament. The desire for multilateral action would be better received in Cornellia when it came time to contact them again rather than kick down the door. A dumb approach to appease the Edomites. Desperately. But It did not appease them. How easy would it have been to ring the Ayacans and say, we noticed the Brush fire. Any chance that we could help.

“Best to let bygones be bygones, remember but don’t repeat.” He said looking at the paper that was deposited on his desk. He thanked the secretary as she walked away. Evidently his overtures on Social Media had seen the Palmyrians receptive to the fact. And there was a letter from the Commerce and Business Minister that ensuring the oil supply would go well for the Party at the next election. Some had said Mcnernia should mediate. His computer dinged and the Ministry of Defense had sent over an assessment, even now they were putting together a task force for deployment. The Ministry had engineers mostly on the list as ensuring that the aid got through the low intensity conflict was the most important part of any peacekeeping mission.

Now with the Cornellian Crisis resolving it was best to engage in dialogue with the Gola Accord signatories. Such nations like the Commonwealth of Palmyrion which had been in country for a little while longer perhaps. He sent a message to his secretary to schedule a press conference in a week. The PM would with Parliaments backing open up a Dialogue on the issue of Bangongo with the Palmyrion Commonwealth.

The Situation in Bangongo is a very delicate one and you have a peacekeeping battalion in the middle of hot zone. We would like to assist how we can. As we understand it a priority will be the protection of civilians. But I await a conference with your Excellency to discuss precisely how HM Armed Forces can be of assistance to our counterparts in Palmyrion. So that we might approach the Organization of Afrukian Cooperation with a plan of action.

Its is my hope to hear from you soon in this regard.

Greetings

Due to the sitituation in Bagongo the Parliament has taken up the issue and has decided that Mcnernia may assist the Palmyrion Peacekeepers of Combined Joint Task Force - Operation Salving Truce in the protection of civilians. The current plan of action is to engage in dialogue with our Palmyrion counterparts and come up with a plan of action so that we might present it to yourselves and ensure that we have the force best suited to the needs of the situation. We also welcome input from our counterparts in Afruika.

Peacekeeping is no easy business, as peacekeepers are oftentimes seen as imperialists and are restricted by RoEs that prevent them from effectively...peacekeeping. If the BDF cross the Luga river, Palmyrion could enact sanctions on Bagongo - and bring the Butu-led government into the hands of what could be Palmyrion's rivals. On the other hand, the Palmyrian peacekeeping contingent in Bagongo were informed that a condemnation of FROLIBO's withdrawal from the Gola Accords was ready to be issued by the palace back in Aragon, but the condemnation was withheld solely due to fears of repercussions from the OAC - and other parties involved in Bagongo. Palmyrion had options; one was to take the side of either the BDF (and the DRB government, now Butu-dominated) or the FROLIBO - but siding with the DRB government would ensue genocide of Miyazenga, and siding with FROLIBO would ensue an apartheid, and Palmyrion didn't want to be the villain who was unable to prevent either from happening. On the table in the most secretive discussions in the Royal Citadel were the following options:
  • Balkanize Bagongo along the Luga river, but prohibit forced migrations. Post a Palmyrian force along the Luga river to monitor the balkanization. Get condemned.
  • Let both FROLIBO and BDF fight each other to exhaustion again (evocative of Sun Tzu's tactic of letting fires burn across the river: 隔岸觀火) - and get condemned for inaction.
  • Withdraw from the Gola Accords, and upscale the mission to an intervention force fighting both BDF (subtle diplomatic pressure) and FROLIBO (open warfare) - and get condemned...again.
  • Go on with the condemnation of FROLIBO's withdrawal from the Gola Accords, and sanction Bagongo for violating the Accords should it conduct offensive military operations - and lose the favor of either side.
  • Either way, all the plans would involve a deliberate attempt to discourage the Hutu/Tutsi/Twa distinction through legal - and ultimately psychological - efforts, not least of which would consist of erasing the said categorization from identity cards and conduct of population census.
You can't please everyone - but Sun Tzu said that sacrificing a plum tree is necessary to save a peach tree, and Palmyrion needed a solution it can implement pronto, and sustain in the long-term, with the end goal of ending ethnic strife in Bagongo for good.

Thus it was a pleasure for Ces Andrea Somido, Palmyrian ambassador to the McNernian Kingdom, and a prolific Doctor of Philosophy in International Studies from the University of Palmyrion (alongside a fruitful ROTC Cadet Officer stint during her undergraduate years), to have received a letter from the McNernian Prime Minister himself regarding how HM Armed Forces could provide assistance to the Royal Conference, and collaborate with the McNernian government and the Organization for Afruikan Cooperation to develop a long-term stabilization plan of action - and such plans of actions would definitely include the Palmyrian proposals above, which would definitely be sorely unpopular to anyone, at least when taken out of the context of the Thirty-Six Stratagems of Sun Tzu.

The second batch of Il-76PMs has arrived, carrying (even more) spare parts for the drones and the new armored fighting vehicles CJTF-OST would use in the peacekeeping efforts. LTC Topacio left his S4 - and left for the commander center - to take care of the shipments as they arrived by air, with Il-76PMs landing on the base's airstrip made of M8A1 Marston Mats. The armored vehicles were transported via special transporter vehicles from the tarmac to their respective unit motor pools for initial inspection.
"Juarez, ikaw na ang bahala sa mga shipments na ito. Babalik na ako sa command center." (Juarez, take care of these shipments. I'm going back to the command center.) LTC Topacio said, as Juarez replied with a snappy salute (as was custom during transfers of command) alongside a succinct Sir, yes sir.".

LTC Topacio walked the long trek to the command center, leaving the S4 issuing commands to the ground crew as they unloaded the cargo. Along his trip back to the command center, his S3 chief informed him on the radio that a search and rescue operation for any potential survivors of the KTIA shoot-down - alongside the primary task of cadaver recovery - was feasible, needing only his clearance to green-light the operation.
"Sir, pwede tayong mag-conduct ng search and rescue para sa mga potential survivors ng shoot-down ni Zuluka." (Sir, we can conduct search and rescue for the potential survivors of Zuluka's shoot-down.) his S3 said, among a backdrop of intense conversation in the command center.

"Magaling, parating na ako diyan. Pag-usapan natin iyan." he replied as he went to the command center on foot, among on-site base patrols by Palmyrian Army and CDF soldiers.

After a long trek to the command center, LTC Topacio went in and immediately rushed to the central table where his senior staff were conversing among themselves. "OIC on deck!" one of the soldiers in the command center exclaimed, to which Topacio said "At ease.".
"Sir, nag-assign na kami ng isang infantry platoon mula sa 2nd Motorized Infantry Company na magsagawa ng isang search-and-rescue operation." (Sir, we have assigned an infantry platoon from the 2nd Motorized Infantry Company to conduct a search-and-rescue operation.) the S3 said, pointing at a NATO symbol of the 2nd Mech. Inc. Coy. drawn by colored pencil over a large map of King Tchombe's International Airport and its vicinity. "Tutulungan sila ng isang utility helicopter detachment at isang ISR drone sa operation." (They'll be assisted by a utility helicopter detachment and one ISR drone for the operation.) the S3 added.

"Good, get them on plot within the next 24 hours, quicker if possible. Keep me posted." LTC Topacio said, to which the S3 said "Sir, wilco, sir."

Of course, that is probably the same sentiment shares by everyone in the Team, but so far in their month long stay in Yughana, ALEXANDER YAEGAR never heard anyone from his team uttered the words out loud- at least not when he was around, and especially not in front of their hosts; officers from the Yughana National Army who had hired them to do a little housekeeping; training and building the local forces there to reach a global army standard - a job that remains depressing and frustrating but it was just something he can't or won't admit defeat just yet, besides the pay is way too good for the team to just walk away. (Well, not that they can if they wanted to anyway).

But there it is.

A Shithole.

A shithole of a motherfucking continent. And it just gets inside your nerves all the time.

"Captain Okane, you'd just lost 90% of your company if you pressed on toward the enemy ...like how you just did. They're in entrenched positions with good observation toward the avenue of approach you had selected. You're closing in from an open area, directly facing them, with very little concealment, and almost no cover. Instead of out flanking them you choose to assault directly. That's a bad tactic. No-go. " He said. Softly. But a voice that carries a certain edge.

But perhaps the man in uniform standing in front him was simply deaf.

"No sir, we Yughanese always face our enemies in combat! It would be cowardice of us soldjar to not face our enemies as we kill them."

Wel, Yaegar decided he wasn't deaf. Only dumb. He maintained a stone face underneath the sunglasses. Schooling every muscle on his face to not betray his true emotions. His deputy instructor, a man named Klaus, was suppressing a laugh.

"Admirable. And who taught you that tactics, Captain?"

"My former commanders -" Yaegar cut him off.

"And where are they now?"

"They died fighting for the nation against the rebels not too long ago, sir."

"A shame, really. But you and your men are going to die just as they did if you do that in actual combat operations, captain." Yaegar didn't actually raised his voice, but he drew his face closer and whispered it. But the other lieutenants and NCOs sitting on the ground around the sand table felt the uneasiness rising.

"Alright, alright, why don't we call it a break, it's almost lunch time." Klaus said, coming between the two soldier.

"Captain? Boss?"

"Ah, yes. It's lunch time." the captain says, then motioned to his men to stand up. The older black soldier glared at the two white mercenaries before walking off.

Yaegar shook his head.

"Well, I was afraid you're going to bash his head in front of his poor chaps, boss. That guy is an idiot, let him do his thing, he'd be dead in no time."

"Fucking asshole."

The two began to head toward their own field tent when another member of their drill team approached.

"Yo, Zapos. What's the word?" Klaus called out.

"Hey, boss, someone from Corporate asking for you on the line."

"Oh, geez, what is it now?"

"Don't know, something, something about a plane shot down in a next door country. Might be a job. They're asking about information on some dead guy called Azuka. I told them to talk to you."

Yaegar and Klaus starred at each other in confusion. Wondering what could have gone wrong.

"Alright, I'll sort this shit out."

*** Nalubuga, Bagongo

Due to the country being so backwards, a huge portion of the population of Bagongo outside of the capital couldn't read or write, meaning that the internet and newspapers were next to useless for a lot of people. Instead, people turned to radio for entertainment and information. Naturally, the government had total control over it and used it to stir up ethnic tension and demonise their enemies as they saw fit, were jamming any transmissions from outside the country. The largest station in the country, Butu Power Radio; which in reality was just a ramshackle collection of equipment in a house somewhere in Eastern Bagongo, was playing its role in the grand plan being hatched masterfully well. Its employees were fanatically loyal to the cause of Butu supremacy over Bagongo, and longed for the complete eradication of the Miyazenga. As the clock ticked towards lunchtime, millions of Butu would be tuning into BPR to hear the latest on the grave political crisis that had gripped the country.

"Butu brothers this is DJ Paul Nyoka coming to you live from beautiful, sunny Nalubuga on the shores of Lake Elizabeth. We have two hours of great music and talk coming up. But first brothers, I can't help but still feel down like many of you after the death of our beloved leader President Michael Zuluka at the hands of that racist butcher Mugerwa. The aggression from our foes has absolutely no limits. At least now after what happened in Karaba a few days ago we can say that justice has been partially served, though there is much more work to be done! Anyway, we have some new tracks today from Bagongo's best Butu artists and our friends in Zairo. First up, we have a single by rising star Busta Head called 'Butu Paradise', followed by the classic 'Another Cockroach Bites the Dust' by Mwinyi Chilemba. Sit back, enjoy and and don't forget, burn the rats out of their burrows!"

Butu Paradise
by Busta Head

Yeah, yeah
Yo, my Butu brothers, it's time.
It's time, brothers (alight, begin).
Straight out the suburbs of Karaba.

This country of ours got a rat infestation.
From Karonda to Mugusa its infected the nation.
Brothers, I think its time we solved this problem once and for all.
The Butu paradise we're all hoping for.

Zuluka, shot from the sky.
Miyazenga cockroaches, always so sly.
If its a Butu paradise we want on Earth.
We got to return those animals to the dirt.

Hunt those rats through the streets.
There's no place for them in Butu paradise.
This land of ours will only be free.
When Mugerwa is swinging from a tree.

*** Tirame, Bagongo

And so it began.

The signal had been given. In the four corners of the country and everywhere in between, pro-government militias were mobilising into action to begin the slaughter, scrambling to get their hands on the nearest weapon they could find. An orgy of violence quickly erupted on the streets of cities, towns and villages as the Butu hunted their Miyazenga neighbours down. Within minutes of the broadcast, gunfire and explosions were rocking Karaba from city centre to suburb as the military gunned down known Miyazenga, destroyed their businesses and torched their cars. In the countryside, the militias started massacring the Miyazenga in their tens of thousands, hacking them to death with machetes or blowing their brains out while they begged for their lives. Elsewhere, the government militias exterminated entire families by locking them in their homes and setting them on fire. Pick-ups full of soldiers roamed the land, checking people's national identity cards to see if they were Butu or Miyazenga. Those who were identified as the latter were immediately killed on sight. The ruthless genocide wasn't confined to the Miyazenga though. The Batwa, the indigenous pygmy population of the region, were also targetted and annihilated in their thousands, long believed by many Butu to practice witchcraft and kidnap children in the night to sacrifice in the jungle.

In the midst of the chaos that was enveloping the country, General Ass Nude's Ushindi Brigade, including the Lion Cubs Battalion, were en-route to the large town of Tirame, located a good bit south of Karaba. Besides killing the other ethnic groups that inhabited the country, the Butu government also had another target in their sights namely the 'foreign invaders masquerading as peacekeepers'; the Palmyrians. The Ushindi Brigade snaked its way towards the town, technicals and various lorries stretching for a few kilometres behind the lead vehicle. Bodies of Miyazenga; men, women and children, lined the ditches that they passed, the water turning dark red as blood leaked out from their fatal injuries. Gun fire continued to echo throughout the hills and valleys in the distance, while smoke could be seen wafting into the sky from burning huts.

"General, the Palmyrian invaders are basing themselves at Camp Maginhawa, about five kilometres north-east of Tirame." Musubaho informed General Ass Nude. They were seated in an improvised armoured fighting vehicle at the head of the convoy, basically a truck with some steel plates bolted on and a 7.62 mm PK machine gun mounted on the roof. The entire thing shook violently as it drove over a metre-deep pothole.

Ass Nude laughed, "Finally, after hundreds years of oppression, Butu will be free of dese cockroaches."

There was a certain hatred for the Organisation for Cooperation in Afruika, who had helped temporarily end the war between the Butu and the Miyazenga by organising the signing of the Gola Accords in 2017. The peacekeepers that had been deployed to Bagongo by various countries since the that war were a source of great embarrassment for the Butu-dominated government. Not only did it suggest that they were incapable of maintaining order within the country, it was felt by many Butu to be effectively a treaty of surrender to General Mugerwa and his forces. Popular belief dictated that the Palmyrians and other foreign actors were actively supporting the Miyazenga in building up their strength in the most remote parts of the country and in neighbouring Yughana so that they could restart the war and expel the Butu from Bagongo. The government and the ever-loyal media capitalised on this atmosphere of widespread suspicion masterfully well, encouraging tens of thousands of young Butu men to organise and volunteer in local, government-sponsored paramilitary organisations to prepare for an eventual war.

Needless to say, due to the mass exodus of military staff after Mugerwa was forced to flee in 2012, followed close behind by a large chunk of the rank and file, the Butu government of the late President Zuluka, and now President Bukenya, had come to rely hugely on these local militias for national defence and security. The downside was that these militias were now incredibly influential, and hard for the government to reign-in when they went too far. While certainly not as bad as the total anarchy in Yughana, there were still a few areas of Bagongo that were effectively out of government control and run by local warlords as their own personal fiefdoms, though still fanatically loyal to the cause of Butu supremacy over the Miyazenga. As one of the most powerful paramilitary leaders in the country, what Ass Nude was about to do was in no way sanctioned by the government in Karaba, rather an act of his own volition. For him, getting rid of the Miyazenga and the Batwa simply wasn't enough, the foreigners would have to go as well.

According to local reports, it sounded like the peacekeepers from Camp Maginhawa had initially tried to stop the Butu from massacring the Miyazenga, however they were ordered to withdraw once the situation got out of control. As a safety measure, Ass Nude decided to forward deploy two reconnaissance platoons in order to scout out Tirame and make sure the Palmyrians were gone. He could assume that they would not attempt to sally out and attack a government-sponsored militia, for fear of dragging the Bagongo Defense Force into the picture and only further imperilling their situation.

"We should steer clear of the Palmyrians. Going by historical precedent, we'll loose against their better equipped force in a direct confrontation. For now, we should harass their troops and disrupt their supply lines. Once they run out of food and ammunition, they'll have no choice but to surrender. They're hundreds of kilometres from the nearest coast and won't be able to reinforce by land." Musubaho suggested, knowing that his commander was liable to attack them head-on, thinking that he was 'protected by de spirits'. He tried his best to put a dampener on the naked warrior's instincts.

"Don't worry Musubaho. I have a genius plan to deal with de foreign devils. I know loads of tricks which will defeat de spells of de enemy." Ass Nude said gleefully. As always, he wasn't wearing a stitch of clothing, bearing all to see as the truck bumped along the dirt road leading to Tirame, "And of course, I will eat dem." Suddenly, an urgent radio transmission from the reconnaissance force crackled through. It appeared the Palmyrians knew he was coming.

OOC: Any offensive things said here and done here do not reflect my views, simply a matter of roleplay.

"When the Ammonites realized they had become repulsive to David, they hired twenty thousand foot soldiers from the Arameans of Beth-rehob and Zobah, one thousand men from the king of Maacah, and twelve thousand men from Tob." - 2 Samuel 10:6.

A Hotel in Switzerland, Europe
It was one of those normal days in one of the many luxury hotels in Switzerland, they were spots for rich and connected people, specifically in this situation, it was the usual meeting spot for the top EO personnel of Cyclops International, a known PMC from Rhidea, the white controlled apartheid country in the continent of Afruika. It operates specifically in Third World. The CEO of Cyclops international, Robert Cecil Huntley was enjoying his day, winning a couple of high stakes Blackjack hands at the Hotel Casino and then bailing with the prize, which is a large sum of money. His trusty deputy CEO, Pieter Van Der Sandt was sitting in the main lobby, filling in paperwork.
Robert then went and sat down near Pieter, they were both sitting at a small table at a far away corner from all the other people, having lots of privacy.
"Well Pete, what's going on? Any new business offerings, deals, something?"
Pieter then lowered his reading glasses, he was a 47 year old veteran, "The devil himself vants us to help him with something." Pieter had a noticeable Afrikaaner accent, which he didn't try to hide at all.
"Plus, you should stop gambling ze company money away." Pieter said with confidence as he continued reading paperwork.
"The devil?" Robert was quite surprised hearing that, "Oh... You mean... Russel right?" Robert lowered his tone by a lot when saying that.
Pieter nodded while having a dead serious look on the paperwork.
"Where does he want us to go? Can't that monster illuminati f**kwit just go away?" Robert said that with a scared look on his face.
"Money is money, Rob. We are going to Bagongo soon. We even planned ourselves to invest company funds in the Bangongolese government, it is just another shit-hole we will have to "save". Russel also told to remind the President of Bagongo the terms to keeping his reign.... You know what I mean." Pieter said while staring right at Robert's eyes.
"Who is this so called President?" Robert said confidently.
"It is a man named Arthur Bukenya, the one before him was a pussy who couldn't make decisions, let's say a few of our people helped taking out this coward." Pieter said that while grinning.
"Arthur Bukenya? Alright. I am assuming you booked a flight for me?" Robert said while looking at his expensive pure gold watch.
"Yes I did. In 4 hours, your flight will be up, I will have to stay here for a bit to do all the paperwork, get Mr.Bukenya to sign the contract and explain the mutual terms to him and we will be good to go with the deployment." Pieter said while looking at his pile of paperwork.
Robert then waved Pieter goodbye before going to his room.

After some time, Robert would receive a call that his flight is ready and needs to go to the airport.
Robert organized himself and took his things and the contract and went outside the hotel. He was escorted in an Armored SUV, with his trained army bodyguards from a French security company.
He would get to the airport and catch a flight to Karaba in his black private jet.

Robert's jet would get there in some hours and days.
It would fly from Switzerland to Karaba, Bagongo.

After some time.....

Karaba, King Tchombe's International Airport, Bagongo
Robert's jet would touch down on the airport after a long flight. He would step out of it, he would be escorted by his personal, armed to the teeth French bodyguards, they already had an armored and bulletproof SUV and they escorted him to Bukenya's presidential palace.
They would drive down to the large gate of the palace. Where soldiers guarding the place would open the gate for the SUV, as they were expecting it beforehand.

Robert would get out of his car as his personal bodyguards escorted him through the palace. Robert would be amused walking through the Neo-Classical halls of the palace, seeing cultural exotic items. It reminded him of Rhidea.
The bodyguards stopped escorting him after some point, leaving him to meet Arthur alone.

Robert then found the large door of Bukenya's office, knocked on it and then walked in.
"Arthur Bukenya! My black friend! How are you doing on this fine day?" Said Robert while barging in and greeting Arthur warmly.

Arthur Bukenya was not a man like the likes of infamous "General Ass Nude" educated abroad and trained for leadership since the beginning of his days, a doctor by trade, Bukenya had far more knowledge about the matters of politics and management than most of his countrymen. It's for that reason why he managed to dwarf his predecessor Michael Zuluka, who - despite his long term campaign for human rights - was a man from the people, and made a poor governor.
"Hello, sir Robert!" Bukenya spoke calmly, without an accent in perfect English, unlike many of his kin from the countryside who could not spell the th sound "I take that our mutual aquitance sent you?"

Robert Cecil Huntley put his trusty cowboy like hat on Bukenya's table, he was a CEO of a global PMC. Having a really large responsibility, but often his trusty Deputy, Pieter Van Der Sandt did the brains work, often the senior EO personnel in Cyclops International say that Pieter would be much better being a CEO instead of Robert, and it was somewhat true. Robert was a frequent gambler, often participating in high stakes Blackjack or Poker, yet always was good at winning hands and then bailing with the prize. "Yes the devil did send me......I would like to add that he paid for this little deal of ours." Robert said while adjusting his shirt and then taking a seat.

"That's perfect." smiled Bukenya "As of now, we are dealing with the plague; but due to domestic concerns the offensive directed against the FROLIBO controlled territory has to be postponed. There is a matter that may capture your attention - namely, the contingent of so called peacekeepers stationing in Tirame. I have... suggested our dear butt naked friend that he takes care of this issue. I am going to denounce him, of course, alongside all government involvement; but that does not mean that I would not like to see him succeed."

"I see..... Aside from the money our mutual friend gave us. I arranged us some company money so that your forces could have some good training and good equipment. I will deploy my men down in Bagongo so that they will help your butt naked friend to get these ch*nk pests out of the way. But I will have to go over a few terms before helping, one of these terms are also related to our mutual friend." Robert said that while lighting up a Cuban Cigar.

"What are those terms?" asked Bukenya.

"First term, only my PMC and the local workers are allowed near your respectable oil stations and only our mutual associate's friends and fronts are allowed to invest or have shares in the petrol trade of Bagongo. If you let any of these H*ji oil shiekhs or those ching-chong Nifonese bastards or any other SACTO nation having shares or any investments in your oil, I will personally do things I don't want to do. Second term, try using the money our friend and I gave you for anything other than your country's military development and it's economic development and I will have you deposed and your head chopped off and not only that, I will have your butt naked friend in charge instead. Third term, breaching or terminating the contract will be the biggest mistake of your life and unintended consequences might happen from it, it's either you choose me or I turn to Mugerwa or your butt naked general. Disappointing me means INDIRECTLY disappointing our mutual connection. Careful with what you are doing." Robert said that while getting up and placing both of his hands on Bukenya's table, staring him right in the eyes.

Bukenya shivered. As much as he hated the Miyazenga, he was never a man who preferred doing things personally; usually letting his subordinates do them instead. Thus, the mere presence of the mercenary terrorized him:
"I agree, I agree..." he spoke humbly. It was never a good idea to oppose the likes of him or Russel.

"Good. Now sign this contract and then we can discuss how we eliminate those other n***ers from the face of the earth." Robert said as he sat down yet again and pulled out a paper clip with the contract details. "Sign here, here and here." Robert said that again as he pointed to Bukenya where to sign, as Bukenya signed on the paper clip without any hesitations or second thoughts.

"See how it's all good and coming together? We work together until we achieve domination, all according to the plan. Now I want you to use the money our mutual connection gives you and our company money to buy a fleet of helicopters, from transport to attack, some planes and some armored vehicles, plus a bit more transportation. Call this number to order something." Robert said as he pulled out a paper slip with a phone number in it. It was a number of his arms dealing connections in South Zambiziland.
"Thank, you, thank you!" Said Bukenya passionately.
"No problem, thank you for choosing Cyclops International, 10 out of 10 customer service." Robert said while giving Bukenya a final handshake before going out of the office and being escorted back to his SUV.
He would call Pieter and order the mobilization and deployment of a Cyclops International Battalion of 432 men to Bagongo.
He would fly back to the luxury hotel in Switzerland while Pieter called the other EO personnel and ordered them to get the mobilization to King Tchombe's International Airport, Bagongo.

Rhidea, Afruika.
The Cyclops International Airbase in Rhidea was flooding with activity, cargo planes coming and going, transport planes standing, soldiers moving around and packing their stuff. Military equipment and personnel were moved around left and right.
It was time for deployment.
Cargo planes and transport planes would carry soldiers and military equipment, the flight from Rhidea to Karaba, Bagongo would take some time and they would take the safest route to not get shot down.
It was time to change the game for the Bagongolese Forces. In some time, they would touch down and begin military operations.

*** Karonda, Bagongo

Far from the heartland of Bagongo, the shores of Lake Kigali offered perhaps some of the most beautiful scenery in the entire country. It was the lifeblood of many settlements which sat on its shores, including not only the city of Karonda but also large population centres in neighbouring Zairo and Yughana. Alongside the nearby towns of Vyanda; also built near Lake Kigali, and Murehe to the north-west, the three settlements often found themselves isolated from what was going on in the rest of country. Not only was infrastructure connecting them to the more populated interior poor, but the civil war of a few years back had cut them off from territories administered by the Butu-dominated government in Karaba by General Mugerwa's FROLIBO units operating from the Rwenjura Mountains along the border with Yughana. Nevertheless, the late President Zuluka had assigned a considerable amount of resources to ensure the area remained under Butu control, assigning one entire division; the 3rd Mahwan Infantry Division, to discourage FROLIBO from taking over.

The message to begin the genocide of the Miyazenga had made it through to the Butu in the area, however the local administration was rather hesitant to comply with the directive. Not only this, but the militias were in no way as organised or as large as the ones in other parts of the country. In fact, relations between the Butu and Miyazenga in the area were actually fairly positive and the policy of carrying a national identity card was not really enforced. An hour into the slaughter of Miyazenga, the central government had lost contact with all major settlements south of the line of control between itself and FROLIBO, sparking fears in Karaba that the government officials in the region had defected to General Mugerwa's side. Before the order had even been given, the men of the 3rd Mahwan Infantry Division were already on their way to kill the Miyazenga themselves. By the evening, the tranquil banks of Lake Kigali were tainted by the blood-curdling sound of screaming and crackle of gun fire as armoured vehicles roared through Karonda, Vyanda and every place in-between, mowing down scores of defenceless Miyazenga in the streets.

The bulk of the 2nd Infantry Regiment swooped into Kardona, while various other battalions moved to occupy Vyanda and smaller settlements located along the main road leading down from Kayima. The tank battalion moved westwards, basing itself in Murehe near the border with Zairo. All across the region, soldiers dismounted and stormed the homes of the Miyazenga, murdering entire families and then looting everything of worth that they came across. Lorries and other vehicle were loaded up with furniture and appliances while some soldiers even attached the tow capable of armoured personnel carriers to cars they found in drive ways. The men lined their pockets with jewellery and other valuable small items. Civilian Butu who had no reason to be hostile towards the Miyazenga were encouraged to take part in the orgy of violence, and those that declined to indulge were threatened with death for showing disloyalty to the Butu race.

The local administrators who were still refusing to coordinate the local genocide of the Miyazenga were dragged out onto the street and beaten to death, then crucified on a hill overlooking the city as a warning to others. Going into the night, large portions of towns and villages across the southern part of Bagongo had been destroyed, while drunken and violent Butu soldiers roamed the streets, raping and killing people spontaneously. What had only a day previously been the most peaceful part of the country had disintegrated into a hellish mess. Meanwhile, the 3rd Mahwan Infantry Division had left the frontier between the government and FROLIBO almost completely undefended.

Camp Maginhawa, 5km NNE of Tirame, Bagongo
04 September 2019 | 1052H Local

Not much was happening in Camp Maginhawa for the past few days other than regular shipments of supplies and the new equipment - mine resistant ISVs for the Internal Security Companies and mine resistant IFVs for the attached Motorized Infantry Companies - coming in by airplane, and routine ISR patrols - in voyeuristic AESA-SAR-MTI glory and orgasmic high-definition 1280x720p EO/FLIR - conducted using drone flights.

However, what this patrol would find will ring alarms all throughout the base.

"Command, this is Recon Detachment Alpha. Feed is clean, drone is on station, all systems normal. a drone crew leader said as the screen shone a multicolor-hued light on him, the screen broadcasting a feed from the drone's AI-boosted HD-FLIR camera, supplemented by RISTA data from the drone's AESA Synthetic Aperture Radar. Moving Target Indicators would mark any moving and stationary allied (BLUFOR) (marked by IR strobes for IFF purposes), neutral (INDFOR), and hostile (OPFOR) forces should there be any.

"Recon Detachment Alpha, this is Command. Paki-stream na sa amin ang feed, over." (Stream to us the feed, over.) LTC Topacio replied, still talking to his assistants about the day's operations.

"Roger, streaming." the drone crew leader replied, and in no time the drone's feed was now available to the command center's central display. It was a largely tranquil feed of the surrounding landscape, with BLUFOR units marked separately from non-BLUFOR units. The tropical jungle was sliced by roads and pathways and topped with settlements and farms here and there, as Palmyrian peacekeeping units kept the peace in the outlying settlements, to include a platoon of CDF stationed in Tirame itself.

Suddenly, the moving target indicator notified, by the use of an arrow and a short beep, the commander to what seemed to be a large formation moving from the northwest - and offscreen.

Immediately, Topacio had the feed shifted.

"Recon Detch Alpha, Command, paki-tingnan ang formation sa northwest. Medyo malaki siya, over." (Please check the formation to the northwest. Looks quite big, over.) LTC Topacio radioed, seemingly alerted about the notification.

Tirame was a large town along the northwestern bank of the Luga river, just a ten minute drive from Camp Maginhawa which was about 5km north-northeast of Tirame. Development of the town could be considered equivalent to that of a Brazilian favela at the outermost fringes, with commercial centers, however small they were, being the most developed, with paved but heavily potholed roads filled with crocodile cracks, and relatively neat, if well-kept, buildings - mostly public marketplaces - of concrete...though with bullet holes here and there as a relic of the 2012-2017 war between FROLIBO and the Bagongolese government.

A note to the reader: C Company "Checkmate" of the 14th Internal Security Battalion, Palmyrian Civil Defense Forces, has been detached from its parent unit to participate in peacekeeping operations in Bagongo.

Checkmate Two-One | Squad Elements
  • Squad leader SGT KASSERINE LUNA
  • Assistant Squad Leader CPL LANCE VINUYA
  • Patrol Section Alpha
    • Section leader SPC LAKAN BUGAYONG
    • Trooper PFC AXEL MACATANGAY
    • Trooper PVT ROBIN SORIA
    • Trooper PFC DAVID MACASE
  • Patrol Section Alpha
    • Section leader SPC EDGAR SALIMBOT
    • Trooper PVT RAFAEL SILVA
    • Trooper PFC FREDERICK LIPARDO
    • Trooper PVT IVAN JARLOS
  • Squad Assets:
    • 1 x MV.103 Light Tactical Vehicle, MRAP (with associated C4I equipment)
    • 10 x Personal Role Radios (issued 1 per member with associated ancillary equipment)
    • 1 x ISN/PRC.117G squad-level radio (issued to assistant squad leader)
    • 1 x Commercial FM/AM radio (issued as per bespoke request by SGT KASSERINE LUNA)

SGT Kasserine Luna (named by her father after the Battle of Kasserine Pass, which while a tactical defeat significantly contributed overall to the strategic defeat of Nazi Germany in Tunisia) and her squad - her assistant squad leader and two teams of four CDF troopers - patrolled the town alongside the rest of one of the CDF platoons sent to Bagongo to participate in peacekeeping tasks (and two CDF companies were sent for the task), her boots trudging the muddy dirt roads of the lesser-developed parts of Tirame as her squad - and their lumbering 5-metric-ton internal security vehicle, a variant of Palmyrion's newest utility armored vehicles - patrolled a nondescript street in one of the lesser-developed districts of Tirame. CJTF-OST assisted local law enforcement in the area with internal security and law enforcement duties as part of its stabilization plan - but there was no stabilizing a tinderbox, no matter how far away you put it from the nearest fire, and the handheld FM/AM radio her squad obtained as part of a logistical request (for purposes of listening on what seemed to be broadcasts from a certain "Butu Power Radio") certainly was set ablaze by a broadcast from "Butu Power Radio".

"Sarge, si Vinuya ito, baka gusto mo mag-tune in sa Butu Power Radio, over." (Sarge, this is Vinuya, you may want to tune in to Butu Power Radio, over.) radioed her assistant squad leader as he raised the matter to his superior regarding Butu Power Radio, as he noticed that the radios of the surrounding community, mostly clocking out for lunch this time of the day, were blaring with broadcasts from BPR.

Luna pressed her push-to-talk button on her personal communications system in order to respond to her assistant squad leader. "Vinuya, Checkmate Two-One Actual, roger that. Tune in mo na, over." (Vinuya, Checkmate Two-One Actual, Roger that. Tune it in, over.) she succinctly replied, and no sooner did the assistant squad leader tune in their commercial radio to BPR, with the rest of the squad listening.

Butu Power Radio wrote:"Butu brothers this is DJ Paul Nyoka coming to you live from beautiful, sunny Nalubuga on the shores of Lake Elizabeth.

Following Busta Head's racist rap-cum-rant was a blood-curdling and disfigured parody of Queen's 'Another One Bites The Dust': Mwinyi Chilemba's 'Another Cockroach Bites The Dust', with both tracks followed by two more hours of racist anti-Miyazenga rhetoric by various speakers over the radio, during which the squad consumed their MREs - an assortment of viands from traditional Palmyrian cuisine, paired with the increasingly mundane parboiled golden rice, all cooked in a flameless heater - for lunch, as they tuned it to the radio - and as usual, it always got to Luna's steel nerves, literally curdling her blood and causing her to choke in disgust every now and then as she gulped in revulsion about what she heard every now and then; no amount of mental hardening and nerve-steeling provided by the Armed Forces' training process could prepare any sane person for goosebump-raising racist rhetoric like this, not even for a battle-hardened newly-promoted sergeant like Kasserine who once served in the 2016-2018 Reunion War as a private in the Army (she transferred to the PCDF due to her desire to be close to her hometown).

Rhetoric like this soon aroused civilians, who by an unfortunate lack of education didn't know better, to commit genocidal acts - and Luna, alongside platoon Checkmate Two, would find herself at the worst place in the worst possible time: the genocide rolling into action, for all its raw, unadulterated violence that would make even hardened, veteran aficionados of splatter films protest (or worse, faint) in shock and disgust.
Luna spotted a civilian going out the front door of a building, holding what seemed to be a machete, and looking around with furious, wide open, bloodshot eyes, as if searching angrily for his Miyazengan - or Palmyrian - prey, whichever was easier to attack, and naturally, he'd rush for the door of his Miyazengan neighbor. She reached out a hand to the civilian and called his attention. "Sir?!"

The man was deliberately deaf, as if ignoring the Palmyrian's calls for attention, and went on to forcibly enter his Miyazengan neighbor's house as the family inside screamed in horror of a man seeking to kill them. "Squad, tigilan niyo siya!" (Squad, stop him!) Luna said, as she and her squad rushed into the house just as the man was presumably about to kill anyone inside - and, most revoltingly, rape any females in the Miyazenga household.

Kasserine saw the man tossing around a Miyazenga woman and her children to a corner as he raised his machete to strike them - but was stopped when Kasserine bawled at the man. "Stand down! Drop the weapon!"

KINGSTON, ST. GEORGE-SOUTH, ST. GEORGE TERRITORY
ST. GEORGE BROADCASTING CORPORATION, MARY LAROCHELLE

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
-Matthew 5:6

Behind the St. George Broadcasting Corporation building Mary sat on a bench smoking a cigarette, shivering from the cold night as she watched the plumes of smoke from the lit cherry, she had been rather proud of herself, nearly having quit smoking for a year, the recent news in Bagongo had proved rather stressful, as rumours abounded in the office that a reporting team was to be sent to Bagongo to provide on the ground reporting as the flow of information coming out of the country had shown to be extremely unreliable, stories about child soldiers storming the parliament building in Karaba, 175 members being slain? The news shocked many in St. George, what was undeniable was the pictures coming out of Bagongo, horror would be an apt description of what was shown. Mary took another long drag on her cigarette looking to the manila folder beside her, describing what was known about the crisis, it was a classic story of Afruika, a minority elevated by the colonial government, only to be brought down, and risen up again, the only thing is that now it seemed like the Butu weren't going to give up the upper hand and were taking advantage of the conflict, their militias making short work of the unarmed Miyazengan, it was a hard read. Putting the butt in the can Mary picked up the stack of folders and walked back into the building, past the rows of cubicles till she found hers, and the visitor waiting for her, Rob Sutton, Director of Foreign reporting, sporting a fake smile that she could tell whatever he was about to say wasn't going to be good. "Mary, I've got some good news for you- you like to travel right, I've got the opportunity of a lifetime for you."

Mary let out an internal sigh, choosing not to infuriate her boss, "I suppose, where do you have in mind?" She said knowing the answer.

"Bagongo, now, I know it might seem a little scary, but this is quite the opportunity to grow your career, and really get the truth out there, good money in it too. Look, Mary, I'm going to be honest with you, a lot of this seems overblown." Rob said in a cheery voice, betraying the true seriousness of the matter.

"And the photos, or what's coming out from the Butu media?"

"It's probably propaganda, I've got an A-plus team here, I just need you, I need an answer as soon as possible." And without letting her respond he tapped the wall of her cubicle and left.

'Bastard, why me?' She thought to herself as she typed away on her computer, some pathetic article about a cat convention held at the Royal Kingston Fair Grounds, this isn't what she went to university to do, she always wanted to be a reporter for as long as she could remember. She closed her laptop and looked at the pictures she had on her desk, of her family, her Boyfriend and the cat, of her reporting in Inuukutut and during the blizzard in St-Jaques-Nord it was those moments she lived for, for the adventure. With a shaky hand she took out her phone, fumbling with the password and to the call button her thumb hovered over Neil's name, they had been together for nearly two years, but this was something else, Bagongo was something else, with great effort she tapped the call button. Her nerves nearly getting the better of her after two rings she heard his familiar voice on the other end. "Hey, everything alright?" It was a soothing voice, that made it all the worse of what she was about to tell him.

"I was just given an opportunity that I don't think I can pass up."

"Where, Queenharbour, LaBelle? I knew you'd get that promotion, you've got to stop beating yourself up-"

She cut him off, silencing him by saying "Bagongo, they want me to go to Bagongo, to get some on the ground reporting from what's going on there." There was a near-deafening silence following this, where the five seconds felt like an eternity.

"O-Okay, that's... different, you told him no, right? You've seen the news on what's coming out of there, it's a f***ing mess!"

"I think I've got to take it, I want to know what's going on there, something is going on there, something big!" Her fears were confirmed, that he wasn't going to take this well, she would have to stick with it.

"You know what, I'm going to support you through whatever, but I think this is a bad idea, I'll talk to you later, I just can't believe your even considering this." And as she attempted to respond in calming his fears over what could be the most dangerous career decision of her life, he had hung up on her.

"F***." Was all she could let out, silently as to not disturb her coworkers, she didn't know what to say. Her eyes went to Rob's office and in one motion she stood up and began walking to the door. She knocked on the door and was greeted by Rob, who gave her a smile and said, "So I take it you've reconsidered?"

"I think I'm the girl for the job Rob." She said feeling more determined.

"Good, I'll send you the necessary documents, medical, clerical stuff, you know? Good though, it'll be nice to know we have someone like you on the job. Go home and get some rest, you'll need it for tomorrow." And with that, the two exchanged a handshake and parted.

The next few days could be lightly described as hectic, ranging from the customs of Bagongo, general history about the country, what recent events were, up to what to do if she was taken captive, it wasn't pretty, and the shots hurt like all Hell, but it was done, the plane tickets were bought, and everyone wished her well in what was to be the arguably the most dangerous tasking in years, Mahwa is where she was to land in, accompanied by an experienced cameraman, Zack LeBlanc and two security personnel, they were to link up with a few local guides once on the ground and meet up with a unit of FROLIBO, or the Front for Liberation of Bagongo, composed of Miyazenga troops under the command of General Mugerwa, although she wasn't meeting with him, she was to meet with a man by the name of Col. Tupac Shakur, who was in charge of the East Side Junglers. It was now or never.

MAHWA, BAGONGO, FROLIBO CONTROLLED TERRITORY
MARY LAROCHELLE, FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT IN BAGONGO, SGBC

"A lie can travel halfway around the world before the truth can get its boots on"

To say that the trip from Kingston International Airport to Mahwa was 'enjoyable' would be lying. Between the layovers, the turbulence, the food, Mary could damn near kiss the ground when she arrived in Mahwa, that was until she saw what was happening through the window of the rapidly descending Cessna, plumes of smoke, technicals and mass movements of people, refugees, she assumed, fleeing from the government-controlled territory, though where they sought shelter, seemed to be hellish in itself. And with that, the plane touched the ground and bounced quickly up and down as the brakes sought to bring it to a halt, finally succeeding, it appeared that there was a greeting party for them, the greeting was cut short as Mary and her entourage, along with their equipment was thrown into the back of a beat-up pickup, Mary had little time to take note of the ESJ fighters, beyond that their clothing resembled that of gang members and their weaponry, before she realized, the truck sped off, with the airport, and her escape quickly vanishing from sight.

The ride had quickly gone from bad to worse, several dead lined the street as Zack began to film, taking note of the state of Mahwa, surely it had seen better days? The streets seemed near-dead until they seemed to arrive at their destination, a humongous crowd assembled around a stage guarded by men wielding automatic rifles, it seemed as if they had arrived when the show was just about to start, as they were quickly pushed to the front of the crowd by their new 'friends' Mary, Zack and the two men assigned with protecting them, who now seemed rather nervous as they looked around, clearly underestimating the job they signed up for.

What followed was something... different, she wasn't sure what she was expecting when she thought of 'Col. Tupac Shakur' but the man who was on the stage seemed to live up to the part, not exactly musically, but he portrayed some of the mannerisms and new the song, although with his own lyrics, talking about how reptilian aliens controlled the Butus, throughout several of the covers of 2Pacs more memorable songs, the topic of aliens seemed to be a recurring theme at least. Once the singing had ended, Col. Shakur gave a speech to the crowd, who seemed either afraid of the man or respect him unquestioningly, in the speech he denounced the Butus, continuing with the claim that they were controlled by forces from beyond our world, as much as she could tell, it incited hatred for the Butus and their commanders. Upon conclusion of the speech, Mary and her entourage were once again dragged away, this time though, they were told that they were to have an audience with the colonel, a great honour, they were informed. It was to be one of the more interesting interviews that Mary would do in her life, she could tell.

*** NEAR KARONDA

Situation in Bagongo was changing quite rapidly. While expecting an outbreak of inter-ethnic violence, General Mugerwa never in his wildest dreams would have expected the wrath of the Butu to take the hate to such a level. Reports were coming from all over Bagongo about slaughters, pogroms and massacres. Within hours thousands of people begun fleeing towards FROLIBO - controlled areas, bringing with themselves as much as they could lift. The crowds stretched endlessly on roads like long centipedes, turning and twisting, with cries of children and complains of women.

Luckily, the people fleeing the carnage happening in government-controlled areas also brought a valuable good with them - intelligence. Remnants of former BDF military intelligence, led by Gen. Milton Bula, quickly went to work. Through analysis of testimonies of the refugees, they quickly managed to get rough estimation of BDF forces and dispositions. When matched those data with commonly available reconnaissance tools in form of SetsuEarth, FROLIBO managed to get enough information about the enemy to consider taking an action.

General Mugerwa once again stood in the middle of an underground bunker, among members of his staff. Brigade commanders were summoned to be personally briefed on the incoming operation. The atmosphere was tense - the amount of violence inflicted upon the Miyazenga made everyone lustful for retribution against the enemy. Some of the soldiers lost their entire families, others had their close ones driven out. All of them trusted Mugerwa, who had already proven himself in the past conflicts.

"All right. Standby for receiving of combat order." Mugerwa smiled activating an antique pictures displayer. FROLIBO did not had access to advanced computers, and with them, powerpoint which was routinely abused in western armies. Next to him, Gen. Bula stood, smiling that he finally has a chance to strike at the hated enemies of his country.

"As you all may know" started Mugerwa "The enemy of our people had finally started his long held plans to exterminate our tribe. Even now as we speak, minions of Arthur Bukenya, incited by witchcraft and foreign money, slaughter our people and take our property. Yet in their drunken stupor to exterminate the Miyazenga, our foe had let his guard down. General Bula, will you explain?"

"Of course, sir!" smiled the chief of intelligence "It's confirmed. Based upon extensive investigation through all possible sources, we have managed to get rough estimations about dispositions, strength and intentions of BDF. Our research had concluded a total collapse of discipline and order among the BDF, which at this point is focused on slaughtering and plundering our people. We will exploit that fact."

"And exploit it, we will." Mugerwa spoke "I take that all of you are aware of battle of Mondovi. In that battle, Napoleon Bonaparte was capable of defeating a vastly superior force by focusing his combat power in a decessive place and time. His ideas were later realized by General Stonewall Jackson in the valley campaign. Our situation is now alike. The enemy had dispersed himself, and as such, had opened a way for a defeat in detail. We are going to go on the offensive."

Silence fell on the assembled men. Most of gathered people were former top military brass of BDF who perfectly understood FROLIBO's inferiority in terms of strength. Each of them could comprehend inherent risks that the situation presented to them when going against a superior conventional force. Their thoughts were given shape by Colonel Arnold "The Terminator" Shaba, commander of the 15th Guards Combined Arms Battalion, considered to be FROLIBO's most elite conventional force. A tall and extremely well built man, with tall head and a short locks decorating top of his head, Arnold was a true sight to behold.

"Sir, you do understand that we are risking counteroffensive by the government devils here?" the colonel spoke. FROLIBO extensively cultivated the idea of auftragstaktik; one of which permitted lower officers to voice their opinions and concerns: "They have superior forces. We are risking quite a counterattack here."

"Rest assured" replied Mugerwa, noting concerns of his underling. Good leadership required close personal contacts with the commanded ones, after all "And worry not. We can easily stop their offensive here with the two remained brigades and the presidential guard. Besides, they will be likely to besiege one of the cities as well - and we know who will wait for them there. Now, Bula, if you mind?"

With the concerns addressed, Bula displayed an image on the wall, as it came alive in a shower of light:

Image

"The AO consists of Kingali Province:" Bula described the terrain in a monotone voice, as he done hundreds of times before "The area includes a mix of rainforrests and open, agricultural terrain. The forested terrain is concentrated around Mt. Milabisi and should be considered slow go for our forces. Mt. Milabisi is also a key terrain that can not under any circumstances be seized by the enemy forces. The further south the more urban zones one can expect. Main highway goes from Kaya to Karonda. So far, we have managed to locate the following enemy groupings; division HQ, signals company and maintenance company at Ngomaya, 1st Infantry Regiment occupying villages of Jwe Kubwa, Ngomaya and Mahalima; Independent tank battalion at Murehe and 2nd infantry regiment at Karonda and Vyanda. The enemy forces do not expect our attack, and as such, are likely unprepared for the coming onslaught. "

The general stopped, giving the stage to his superior, who, after intaking a breath of air, started an explaination. The burden of leadership weighted heavy on Mugerwa's shoulders; knowing that in this dark hour, he had to lead his tribe to a victory.

"We will use the mobility of our technical to achieve a surprise here;" Mugerwa went to depict the final details of the operation "The attack will be carried out by 1st and 2nd infantry brigades, backed up by the 15th Guards Combined arms regiment. The 2nd infantry brigade will be given task of passing through the Yughannan border to attack forces at Sambare and Mahalima directly. Meanwhile, the 1st Infantry Brigade will be given task to seize Jwe Kubwa at the same time, as well as capture Mt. Milimbisi and prevent the enemy from seizing it. Meanwhile, the 15th Guards CA Battalion, strengthened by the rocket artillery battery and anti tank battery from 1st infantry brigade will destroy the command & control infrastructure at Ngomaya, and prepare to repeal any eventual counterattacks. Following capture of Jwe Kubwa, 1st Infantry Brigade is to proceed along the road, and either assist in capturing the remaining points of resistance, or assisting in repealing the enemy's counterattack depending on the situation."

Many further orders were given, depicting logistic, engineer & air defense support. In the end, Mugerwa rose his hand:

"I do not need to under stretch the importance of this task. Should we fail now, the Butu will own this country. Any questions!!?"

"One question, your excellency" Col. Shaba asked slowly, concerned about the situation. Unlike many FROLIBO officers such as Gen. Bula, he wore no hatred towards the butu; only loathing more extremist elements against them. Therefore, he had to consider the thoughts of facing his former neighbours and friends in a bloody battle "What are the rules of engagement on this one? While the Butu have killed our entire families, even vengeance ought to have some limits."

Mugerwa slowly looked down. On the other hand, he wanted justice; justice for his tribe, and for his people. On the other hand, he was fully aware how quickly things could get out of hand. Nevertheless, the harsh times required harsh ladership; and the good of Miyazenga had to come first;

"Spare those who did not take part in the pogroms, and don't loot their property. As for those who did..." Mugerwa paused "I think that the Lord had already condemned them. Bring me their heads."

With those words, the meeting was over. The officers left it in different moods; Bula happy that blood of his enemies was about to flow, Shaba dissatisfied with blood lust his comrades displayed against those that only few years ago were their neighbours. Despite that, each officer understood his duty, and was willing to perform it to the end.

"On the forest covered banks of Kingali,
Rise Miyazenga to fight for your honor!
Rise Miyazenga to fight for your honor!

Miyazenga stands brother to brother,
To defend our families from savage terror!
To defend our families from savage terror!

Let our song ears of Bukenya reach,
When we will his thugs bloody lesson teach!
When we will his thugs bloody lesson teach!

Let loose your trigger finger,
Let the wind your bullets carry!
Let the wind your bullets carry!

Oh you Butu, horde savage!
You shall perish before Miyazenga rage!
You shall perish before Miyazenga rage!

So that every Butu be warned could,
On Kigali you won't place even a single foot!
On Kigali you won't place even a single foot!

Grab a kalash, gun or a rake,
We will drive the BDF into the lake!
We will drive the BDF into the lake!

Soon we return to the state of the past,
The Butu will sweep our floors fast!
The Butu will sweep our floors fast!"

FROLIBO's own Schliffen plan had been put to action.

When they weren't committed, FROLIBO maintained it's forces dispersed among a network of fortified villages, tunnels and hideouts. Light motorized infantry nature of their force meant that widespread use of cover, camouflage, concealment, deception and deceit was far easier to execute than in case of more conventional forces with heavy equipment. Technical trucks the rebels were using were the same cars that they drove to work or school each day; only outfitted with various machines of war. Artillery and other heavy weapons were usually kept either in garages, magazines, under bridges or concealed under layers of camouflage netting.

Deep in the night, motorcycle couriers sped up, first from FROLIBO's general HQ to HQ of brigades; then, from the brigade HQs to battalion HQs, creating no radio noise to indicate that an attack was coming. Within an hour from the departure, war drums were sounding in the villages, as militants were assembling for an operation. Each unit had an assigned assembly zone, to which it was going to travel in small detachments, forming larger units only after reaching the AO; thus, eventual airborne scouts would notice the individual elements, likely disregarding them, or, in case of detection - limiting damage conducted by indirect fire. The fact that a highway existed in this part of the country, and speed offered by insurgent technical means that the assembly process would proceed extremely quickly; BDF units would have less than an hour to take note of the incoming attack; the fact that it was happening at night, after a long time of raping and plundering would further decrease their combat readiness.

In short time, the operation proceeded as planned. 2nd Infantry Brigade And 15th Guards Combined Arms Battalion would turn into the Yughannan border, using the disorderly border area to bypass the terrain controlled by BDF, and strike directly against Sambare, Mahalima and Ngomawa. Meanwhile, at the same time, 1st Infantry Brigade was already extending it's three combat battalions to launch an attack against Jwe Kubwa, with the fourth and last one heading off to secure Mt. Milimbasi.

At the first rays of the morning sun, two short radio signals would cut the silence, confirming that the brigade was in position. Then, another radio signal would authorize the execution from the central HQ. Operation Cheetah was in effect.

First sign that something was wrong were flocks of birds rising to the early morning hours. Then, the silence of the early morning was cut by roars of several artillery tubes. Those belonged to 24 M-30 howitzers belonging to two FROLIBO brigades. Twelve of those were assigned to support advance in Sambare and Mahalima, twelve belonging to the first brigade would be targeting Jwe Kubwa. Fiery missiles would fall on MG nests, ATGM nests, bunkers, housing areas and other identified points of resistance, forward observers helping guide the fire directly on target. Shortly after, 82mm mortars belonging to the battalions would open fire as well. A salvo from BM-21 Grad battery of the 2nd Brigade would be used to destroy the artillery battery of the 1st Regiment, positions of which were previously found on SetsuEarth.

Then, they would come.

Technical trucks would halt around 800 meters from their objectives, opening fire from heavy weapons. Under their cover, the FROLIBO soldiers would jump down and continue the assault towards their objectives. With shouts of "Zvemba - zvakagadzirira! (For Home - Ready!)" the assault would commence directly against the assigned objectives. Mahalima and Sambare would come under wrath of two battalions of 2nd Brigade; while Jwe Kubwa would face three of the first.

Parallel to that, the Type 59 tanks and Type 63 APCs of 15th Guards Combined Arms Battalion would fall on unsuspecting command & support staff that was celebrating that night in Ngomawa, opening fire with their mighty guns as infantry would advance towards the division's HQ. To those, no mercy would be shown; they would all be slaughtered, and their heads displayed as a warning to the other Butu. Even Shaba, who normally disliked violence, had no problem with killing those who organized genocide of the Miyazenga.

And with the final - and most perfidious - blow, FROLIBO would start jamming the frequencies of Butu Power Radio. Prievious to the operation, Mugerwa had gathered a wide collection of conmen; now, those conmen would be tasked with faking DJ Paul Niyoka's voice. The "presenter" would then push into the ether a set of fake news informing the butu that 3rd Mahwan Division was totally destroyed, FROLIBO entered Karonda, and that all resistance if futile; which, when coupled with first news of defeats, would quickly contribute to a massive breakdown of morale among the Butu.

*** Tirame, Bagongo

The Ushindi Brigade announced their arrival in Tirame by leaving off a blast of rifle and anti-aircraft fire into the sky, the militiamen hooting and hollering as they passed by hundreds of cheering Butu men, women and children who were celebrating Ass Nude's arrival in the town. As Musubaho scanned the crowds, he could see a few bloodied machetes, indicating that the locals had already been hard at work purging the Miyazenga from the land. Mothers and fathers ran out of their homes with their children on their shoulders, hoping they could get a glimpse of their 'hero' General Ass Nude and receive the essence of his warrior. While Ass Nude basked in the glory surrounding him, Musubaho looked ahead to see that the forward-deployed reconnaissance units had come to a stop in the centre of the town. It appeared something big was going on in the main square of Tirame, enough that it had drawn a lot of people's attention away from the arrival of Ass Nude. There was the sound of a few gunshots and relentless shouting from the crowd.

Concerned, Musubaho pressed down hard on Ass Nude's shoulder, "General, look! Something is happening up the road."

Ass Nude's vehicle drove up to the edge of the crowd. The driver blew the horn repeatedly to tell everyone to get out of the way. They quickly complied once they realised who the passengers were. Immediately, a gap in the crowd opened up in front of the vehicle, revealing that a mob of Butu residents had surrounded a team of bloodied Palmyrian peacekeepers. They appeared to be keeping everyone at bay, pointing their guns frantically at members of the crowd who were trying to taunt or attack them. Some daring Butu tossed stones at the Palmyrians, but most fell short of hitting them.

Musubaho got out of the vehicle and started to walk towards the Palmyrians. After a few seconds, they noticed he was approaching and looked at him directly. He knew that this was a risky thing to do, considering they could just as easily shoot him. They probably thought he was the one in charge. In such a frantic, hopeless state, they could do anything. He glared at them for a moment before he began to speak.

"Foreigners! You don't belong here! Drop your weapons now and we will let you go. Our war isn't with your kind."

Despair. Defeat spawns despair. And what better way to immerse in this atmosphere of inevitable despair than to listen to an appropriate soundtrack? With Spotify Premium, you can do it all you want, when you want!

Luna soon realized the gravity of their situation as this man - Musubaho, dressed in military fatigues, and presumably their commander - approached them, with an offer for surrender.

"Dagger 2-3, this is Checkmate 2-1. Paki-exfil kami, over" (Dagger 2-3, this is Checkmate 2-1. Get us an exfil, over.) Luna radioed to a nearby helicopter in between breaths with a broken voice as the gravity - and inescapability - of their situation sunk deeper into her.

"Checkmate 2-1, Dagger 2-3, masyadong maraming kalaban sa lugar niyo. Hindi ka na namin mapa-exfil. Patawad. Out." (There's too many enemies in your location. We can't exfil you. I'm sorry. Out) the pilot replied over the radio as they flew out of Tirame, carrying an entire CDF squad back to base.

At this point, peacekeeper RoEs didn't matter to Luna now. She couldn't care less as her squad was surrounded by angry civilians (and no manner and assortment of de-escalation tactics would be useful at this point), and was now facing a military unit that outgunned and outnumbered them - technicals, mortars, heavy machine guns, militiamen and all. Their ISV had been totaled somewhere in the town and there was no getting it back up again.

All it mattered was to do her little part in trying to shorten the genocide. Besides, this was a self-defense scenario if "correctly reported" by her superiors.

"Squad, this is Soria. May sinabi ang tatay ko tungkol sa mga sitwasyon tulad nito." (My father has said something about situations like these.) Soria said, as he let go of his trigger grip and reached for his sidearm. "Always spare a bullet for yourself." He added, afterwards pulling out his sidearm, and placed the muzzle at his right temple. A breath of desperation filled his lungs as he breathed for one last time in his life before pulling the trigger, driving a 9mm bullet into his skull and ultimately ending his life.

"Soria! No!" One of his squad members screamed as Soria ended his own life to escape capture, his lifeless body falling and hitting the ground with a nasty thud, the sand throwing up and making an instantaneous thrashing noise as Soria literally bit the dust.

Try as she could to resist, Luna finally succumbed to the atmosphere of desperation - and accepted, despite knowing that torture as POWs is coming, the inevitability of their fate.

"Command, this is Kasserine Luna, squad leader, Checkmate 2-1" she said. "If you are reading this transmission you'll know what happened."

"Wala na kaming pakialam kung mamamatay kami. Wala na kaming pakialam sa RoE. Ang importante ay mapaikli namin ang patayang ito." (We don't care anymore if we die. We don't care about the RoE anymore. What's important is we shorten this bloodshed.) she continued, pausing for a while to catch her breath.

"If we make the headlines dead, it doesn't matter. Just allow me to break RoE for once and do my part in shortening this chaos. Tell my parents, friends, and girlfriend that I love them." She added.

"Kung makikita niyo man ang bangkay ko, bigyan niyo lang ako ng maikling paunlak. Luna out." (If you see my corpse, just give me a short eulogy. Luna out.) she finished, as she shifted her aim to the head of the man right in front of her - Musubaho. The philosophical arguments of common law and whether or not the RoE was worth obeying were irrelevant in these times of despair; all it mattered was for her to do her part in shortening the chaos, and the least she could do was to kill this high-ranking man, and potentially put their rank-and-file - the agents of this genocidal bloodshed - into disarray.

And kill she did.

It didn't take long from trigger pull for a bullet, a 6mm 85-grain bullet, to rush down the barrel and into the muzzle, from which it roared at 905m/s into Musubaho's skull. There was no going back for anyone - not for Luna, not for her squad, not for the Palmyrians, and certainly not for Musubaho and the Butu. However, all that mattered was that Luna was able to do her part in shortening the bloodshed by killing an officer - or perhaps the leader - of a unit engaged in the anti-Miyazenga genocide.

That was it.

All Luna could hear as she became all the more dazed was the people screaming and protesting, the echo of the gunshot lingering (though briefly) in the air, and Musubaho's body falling on the ground, lifeless as a 6mm bullet tore through his head, after which she lowered her rifle, began to unwear it by its sling, and threw it on the ground - all in slow succession as she allowed the inevitability and desperation of her circumstances to sink in.

"Ma'am! NO!" Vinuya, still aiming his rifle towards the crowd while looking to his side towards Luna, screamed in dismayed shock as Luna fell knees first on the ground (as if to kneel) and put her hands on her nape, finally succumbing to the atmosphere of despair and defeat that surrounded the squad. All Luna could hear was the crowd protesting in rage and throwing even more stones at them - but she had virtually zero, if any, regrets for killing Musubaho.

And just like that, it looked like the Palmyrians peacekeepers had destroyed their last chance to get out of Tirame alive. Musubaho had been a relative moderate compared to General Ass Nude who, while by no means liking the Miyazenga, honestly did not want to drag foreigners needlessly into Butu affairs. As Musubaho’s blood leaked out from the gaping hole that the bullet had blasted through his skull, a wave of pure rage unlike anything Ass Nude had experienced before took complete control of his very being. Tears of anger and sadness rolled down his cheeks in a strange mixture of total despair and a desire for revengeance. He vowed to himself that every Palmyrian would be slaughtered for Musubaho’s death. However, he eventually came to his senses when he realised that the female amongst the Palmyrian squad had thrown down her weapon and appeared to be surrendering herself to the Ushindi Brigade.

“Kill all of de men! De female is mine!” Ass Nude shouted to the crowd from the safety of his improvised armoured vehicle. He wasn’t going to be so naïve as to put himself in danger of being shot by a desperate Palmyrian as Musubaho had been, even if he was protected by the spirits.

Several gunmen emerged from the crowd and unleashed a barrage of gunfire at the surrounded peacekeepers, riddling everyone but Luna with a stream of bullets. As they died, each gave out a blood-curdling yelp as they were put down like a pack of dogs. One of Ass Nude’s kicked Luna’s gun away and pressed his AK-47 right up against the back of her head, wary that these foreigners were capable of pulling anything off.

Ass Nude emerged from the vehicle and, slowly, began walking over to Luna, his bare feet making little sound as they moved over the dusty ground. Drops of salty tears were still dripping down his cheeks. The crowd had suddenly gone quiet. For a moment, he knelt down to embrace Musubaho’s body, whispering something into his ear and then closing his eyes for the final time. He got up and continued walking towards Luna.

Luna could feel the lukewarm steel of the AK-47's muzzle pressing on her nape as she listened - powerlessly - to the cacophony of AK-47s roaring furiously and her soldiers wailing in death as a hail of bullets hit them one by one in rapid succession, their body armor reaching their limits in protecting the soldiers against dense small arms fire from countless AKs. This would perhaps become the bloodiest day for the peacekeeping contingent - and one that would have massive political fallout both here and at home.

However, for Luna, she saw a silver lining in this cloud - at least for Bagongo and the war itself.

She looked at a seemingly emotional Ass Nude walking towards her, his eyes apparently fresh from (literally) crying - as in, literally shedding tears - for his fallen comrade. Her rudimentary experience in analyzing people - honed starting from when she was in grade school up to her frontline experience as a soldier in the army, to now that she was a CDF trooper (and now a prisoner of war) - would lead her to the conclusion, after a short burst of rudimentary analytical thought, that this man, if he indeed was the leader behind the group descending on Tirame and apparently clustering for an attack on Camp Maginhawa, apparently lost someone who dearly - both on a military and personal sense - complemented his relatively emotional nature with tactical professionalist rationalism and level-headedness.

She not only knew just how it might affect Ass Nude's attack on Camp Maginhawa (with Ass Nude going reckless being the least of them), but also denied giving them an opportunity to mete out relatively slow, painful, and inhumane deaths to her now dead soldiers - and these she thought as she gave an approaching Ass Nude a sly, albeit unnoticeable, smirk, coupled with a cold and similarly sly but deceptively weary stare; even if she knew it was in exchange for her being treated badly as a prisoner of war (of which wartime rape was the least of her concerns), she knew that the joke was on him, and such a joke would play out in the long game.

Wiping his tears away, Ass Nude looked down on Luna with a strange mixture of respect and disgust. As far as he was concerned, she was now his trophy, with which he would do as he pleased. He bent down and caressed Luna’s cheeks. “You are mine now.”

Luna simply kept up her stare, staying stoic as if unfazed at Ass Nude while expertly hiding (at least in the context of nerve-wracking desperation in situations like this) a seething disgust for him. If the joke she was thinking of wouldn't play immediately, then it would soon - perhaps in the form of countless soldiers (and least likely, Ass Nude himself) being killed in reckless tactical decisions made by a relatively emotional Ass Nude, now made even more emotional than ever after losing Musubaho. She kept up this stare for as long as she could, even up until (and perhaps well beyond when) they loaded her in one of their technicals as a prisoner of war.

Dahlslande: The Jewel of Southern Afruika. A land of rolling savanna bordered by mountainous badlands to its east and sparkling azure seas to its west, a country facing a relatively bright future away from the darkness of its past.
Initially inhabited by the nomadic Kalagadi peoples, in 1467 a group of Dorian settlers arrived on the shores escaping cultural and religious persecution back in their homeland and offered to purchase a plot of land from the Kalagadi. With the Dorian establishment of Geledesta nearly three centuries of trading and cultural intermingling the two communities that inhabited the area grew close and near inseparable bonds with one another.
By 1804, a new group of people had arrived; white Germanic settlers from some far away empire, those who would become the Dahlsländers. Initial relations between the Dorians, Kalagadi and the new settlers were warm but soon grew strained and eventually hostile as they attempted to seize lands from the Dorians and Kalagadi for grazing and farming by all means necessary. Over the course of the 19th century the Dahlsländers established their colony and with the help of their mother country, successfully conquered the natives and Dorians and forced both communities into controlled settlements.
Over the course of the 20th century, with the independence of Dahlslande and the institutional apartheid intensified, the powderkeg ignited. With the Guadalupadorian intervention in the civil war in 1977, the Dahlsländer-minority government was toppled and a democratic all-ethnic government replaced it. After the Civil War, with the Kalagadi and Dorians franchised, the near two-century long minority rule ended, and efforts at reconciliation with the Dahlsländers were at hand. Those Dahlsländers that fervently opposed the new order quickly faded into the periphery, or so it had seemed; In reality they were preparing for their second chance to seize power and reinstate their minority rule and take revenge on their supposed new “oppressors.” The Dahlslande Bush War erupted 20 years later when Dahlsländer ultranationalists attempted a coup and then set out on a genocidal campaign to ethnically cleanse areas under their control. Once more, with the assistance of Guadalupador, over the course of a long and bloody conflict the ultranationalists were eventually brought to heel and disarmed.

Dahlslande, now decades removed from its Bush War is starting to heal from its old festering wounds from ethnic conflict with the election of Peter Schulmann to the Presidency, the first Dahlsländer head of state since the fall of the Apartheid government. Schulmann ran on a platform of racial reconciliation and unity and courted a coalition of voters from all the major ethnic groups within the country. His election and platform also earned him a term as the Secretary General of the Organization of Afruikan Cooperation, a position that he takes seriously as opposed to his immediate predecessors, whom saw it as just some other decoration to be granted to them. Schulmann was determined to make a difference in Afruika through the OAC to actually promote unity, though that would be easier said than done.

To say that President Peter Schulmann was disturbed by the constant stream of bad news from Bagongo would be an understatement: Schulmann had been in constant meetings with his cabinet reviewing the reports and brainstorming possible responses to the civil war in Bagongo. There were seemingly no good options that Dahlslande could employ to stop the civil war:
A direct military intervention by Dahlslande alone was nearly out of the question given the fact that the military in its current state wouldn’t be able to effectively project military power in a country hundreds of kilometers away; any sanctions wouldn’t bite and would actually be detrimental to Dahlslande and a strongly worded letter condemning the Butu perpetrators would not stop the killings in Bagongo anyway.

With the options for Dahlslande itself limited, Schulmann looked to his position as Secretary General of the OAC to shift some weight around to get something, anything done to stop the absolute bloodbath. In the wake of Operation Cheetah, President Schulmann called an emergency meeting of the OAC General Assembly to establish a peacekeeping and humanitarian mission to Bagongo and to initiate talks between FROLIBO and the Government of Bagongo.
Schulmann addressed the General Assembly via live feed:

“Esteemed members of the OAC General Assembly, the civil war in Bagongo is becoming a dangerous, destabilizing threat to Afruika and it will indeed escalate into a larger conflict if it is left unchecked. The creation of an OAC peacekeeping mission to Bagongo will be essential in ending the conflict before it gets out of hand. We must end this period of mass killings immediately, and give all we can to help heal these deep-seeded wounds within our shared continent. The time is of the essence and the lives of millions are at stake. As President of Dahlslande, I will personally dedicate several units to the OAC Peacekeeping Mission in Bagongo, I urge that my fellows within this prestigious organization do the same.”

President Schulmann ended his speech and cut the feed. Peter exhaled and leaned back in his chair. His chief of staff rushed up to him and flung a folder on his desk. "It's urgent Mister President, we've got SATINT from our allies in Guadalupador. It seems that FROLIBO is gearing up for its offensive." His Chief of Staff, Anders Integwe rushed to his side as Schulmann opened the folder filled with satellite images that the President requested from his allies weeks earlier. The President traced his finger across an image of boats gathered near the shore of Anasa. "Those weren't there a few days ago-" Integwe interjected before being cut off.

"When is the soonest we can deploy our peacekeeping force?"

"I'll inform the Minister of the Armed Forces to come here immediately."

"No, not to my office, onto my plane. I'm headed to the OAC General Assembly tonight. Tell him to meet me at the airport." President Schulmann said before getting up and taking the folder with him. "I'll need my bags packed immediately. You know the drill, Anders."

"Yes Mister President, all too well." Chief of Staff Integwe said, preparing to dial the Minister's office number.

Schulmann would be on his way to speak at the OAC General Assembly in Zamunda by the next morning.

Towards Tirame, Bagongo
With the Gola Accords being broken, and the Butu government wiping their ass with the truce with FROLIBO, the Cyclops International men were being deployed to Bagongo, an entire battalion of men of different ethnicities, be it White or Black were on a march towards Tirame. Going in with protected convoys, travelling with BDF forces and moving all of their forces towards villages nearby Tirame and all the area around it, basing themselves alongside BDF forces.

Lt.Col John Baker was the commander of the battalion sent to Tirame, he was nervous and excited at the same time. He was fearful because of Ass Nude and the state of the BDF, they will lose if they decide to storm the Palmyris head on. With all the force sent, there were military advisors and trained pilots on the way to help the BDF improve. The Palmyris and the other peacekeepers were a nuisance in the way of the BDF’s genocidal path, they were needed to be taken care of. The PMC Battalion was used in the same way as Special Forces were used, they are one of the few professional forces helping the BDF.

Lt.Col Baker entered the tent that served as the HQ of Ass Nude’s commanders and operations, he introduced himself quickly by saying, “Greetings gentlemen, I was sent here with a Battalion on behalf of Cyclops International to help all of you to eliminate FROLIBO and the other pests.” He looked at the commanders and inspected around the tent, hearing whatever reactions the commanders had to say.

The message hadn’t been sent out that Musubaho was dead. If things had gone differently, he would of been on the other side of the table as Ass Nude’s second-in-command. In his stead, a council of five former military officers had taken it on themselves to temper Ass Nude’s instincts. The foreigners opposite them looked a bit confused, obviously expecting somebody that wasn’t in this world anymore. The Butu returned their looks with with gazes of deep suspicion. Nevertheless, the Ushindi Brigade needed everything it could muster to destroy the Palmyrians. The thought of relying on non-Butu to help them achieve could irk many in the Butu ranks.

Heading the group on the Butu side was former Brigadier General Keambiroiro, who had been Musubaho’s aide before his untimely debt at the hands of the Palmyrian Ass Nude had taken prisoner. “Mr Baker, welcome to Tirame. I regret to inform you that our second-in-command, Mr Musubaho, died in an act of great dishonour and foolishness by our enemies in the time it took you to arrive here. We are the council established to advise our commander in his place. Can I get you a drink? Our enemies have supplied us with a fine stock of imported beers and wine.”

Baker then looks at Keambiroiro, he knew that there was a sense of suspicion in him. And he understood that, all the years of exploitation from the colonialists can do that to a nation. He then said, “Sorry for your loss and no thanks. Can’t get drunk on the job. So let’s discuss together how we are going to take out those ch*nk pests.” He looked, a clash of eyes between a Rhidean man and Bagongolese men.

“Well, at least we are on the same page.” Keambiroiro grinned, “As you probably already know, the Palmyrians have established a space approximately ten kilometres from where we are called Camp Maginhawa. Most if not all their forces have retreated there since discovering that my commander’s forces were coming to help in the liberation of Tirame. If our intelligence is correct, we outnumber them by a factor of more than 3 to 1, but they are entrenched and have much better equipment. We will need to be especially cunning if we are to beat them. I believe you and your men will help us greatly in doing this.” Keambiroiro called one over of his subordinates, who produced a roughly sketched map of Tirame and the surrounding area.

“We believe the enemy fortifications primarily consists of HESCO barriers. To get around this, we have brought along a mixture of mortars for firing over their walls, and anti-tank guns and recoilless rifles for direct fire support. Looking at historical battles of a similar nature, we are in a somewhat better situation because of the arsenal of weapons at our disposal. Nevertheless, it will be necessary to draw a portion of their forces out at some point if we wish to beat them.”

Baker then nodded and shook his head and said, “Storming them head on will be stupid. They’ll most likely have supply convoys going in and out, we need to harass their supply and engage in guerrila warfare against their base. This is a war of attrition. Plus we have the other side of the river to worry about. If they reach out to FROLIBO, the situation is not going to be easy.” He said that while looking at a map of the region, “I will have some sniper teams moving around the area, they will do recon and adjust artillery fire when you need to. Just have your forces to try and not mess up with the artillery hits.”

“Good point. We should dedicate at least one of our own battalions to defending the crossing from any attempt by FROLIBO to help the Palmyrians, and send a smaller unit to defend the crossing further south at Kalinzi.” Keambiroiro said, “In the meantime, we will not interfere with the operations of your artillery. Before we even try and attempt to storm that base, we will need to deal significant damage to their protection. I believe both of our forces will be able to coordinate their mortar and artillery fire effectively. We must ultimately demoralise the enemy totally, keeping them awake at night so that they will never get rested and then become sloppy in their defence as they become more and more deprived of sleep.”

Baker nods, he then looks on a map of the area while looking at intelligence reports, “We’ll have to position the artillery in a pretty far position from their base, so that they cannot go after those pieces even if they wanted to. I think their bad knowledge of the Bagongolese terrain, which is a major disadvantage for them will serve us good. I would like to know what kind of artillery pieces your forces have.”

“We are a militia, and we travel light.” Keambiroiro explained, “We don’t have howitzers but we do have many mortars both military-grade and improvised that we can use to keep the enemy under a constant barrage of fire. Most are Soviet-style 50 mm or 82 mm mortars taken from government stock. They are basic but reliable. As for direct fire, we’ve some MT-12 anti-tank guns and many SPG-9s, also taken from government stock. I imagine they’ll prove fairly effective against the enemy barriers, if we can get close enough to their base of course.”

“We cannot get close to their base for now, we will have to suffice in drawing them out bit by bit. Demoralise and give them a reason to surrender. Starve them out, make sure their supply lines are out of commission. Hell, even my forces can conduct small scale tactical level raids if needed. Direct Action is very recommended in this situation.” Baker explained. “The mortars will suffice, plus my force’s new Russian artillery pieces can suffice for now. We are light infantry as well, so we don’t carry around howitzers. We certainly however fund the BDF, so you can buy and add more to the stockpile.”

“My own suggestion is that we use my men’s mortars to draw the Palmyrians out, while hiding our own forces in the jungle. My hope is that they will send out some of their forces to take out our mortars if they are under the impression that they’re undefended.” Keambiroiro replied.

“That is a good suggestion. We will have to ambush supply convoys heading out from their camp. The Jungles can be used very good for this situation. We should make sure that traversing in the jungle for them will be a fatal mistake. I believe once they are pummeled and softened up enough, we should be able to attack them and end them once and for all.”

“Excellent. Finally, our men have captured the prisoner who murdered Musubaho. She is yours to do with as you please, Mr Baker. Her and her kind must pay dearly for their crimes against the people of Bagongo and all the people of Afruika.” Keambiroiro concluded, “He will be avenged!”

“Thank you very much. Well. I will go back to my men, I wish only good fortune and success to all of us in fighting the pests. Goodbye and have a good day.” Said Lt.Col John Baker as he shook Keambiroiro’s hand, he then went back to the command vehicle that drove him to the BDF HQ in Tirame and then went back to his Battalion base of operations.

Cathcride, Mcnernia

The Prime Minister was waiting for the Ambassador in a room near his offices in Bethelford Manor. The official residence of the Prime Ministers of Mcnernia. A rather large house with the Cabinet meeting in the lower levels in the Cabinet room. He would be a relatively short man in the grand scheme of things. No Elijah IV of New Edom. But a man of dedication to the law and the violations of Norms had weighed heavily on him and so he had set out his policy of multilateral action. bagongo was the first test of this with the proposal to assist in Bagongo.

The situation was playing out on MBC as the ANO media service was being discussed. The MBC had to be called to prevent sending people into a war zone without arrangements as the fact was this could get very ugly very fast. The MoD had updated their assessment.

In addition to the proposed engineers the idea was to send the Havenians (1st Battalion of 3rd Brigade of the First Division-This is just one idea. Seeing as I'm rather conflicted about the whole population issue) would be providing guard force for the engineers and maybe protection for civilians.

Or maybe with the blessing of the OAC a revised option for the full intervention some in Parliament were calling for. An air contingent and a large ground unit putting down the BDF and paramilitaries. But the red flag there was the fact OAC would not agree. Nonetheless there was the third plan. An airstrike on the Butu Power Radio Transmitter. The Minister of Defense had assured him that there was a Special Forces option in the works as the PM made to meet the AMbassador.

Her motorcade would be escorted by the Mcnernian Royal Constabulary Government District Police to the Bethelford manor and cleared through the checkpoint at the gate. At the door there would be the Prime Ministers chief secretary waiting. The man would lead the Ambassador through the halls to the room where Albert Shapter was waiting with a tea service. A kettle steamed and the files were there. Something for the Engineers deployment, engineers and ground troops and then the full intervention by two large task forces backed up by an air contingent. That would probably see victory over the BDF and maybe a note in the plan had provisions for Paratroopers. But the PM also had another thing. An Airstrike was not out of the question but that had been marked. CIVILIAN CASUALTIES HIGH POSSIBLY. Therefore that was rather to be used as a last resort. As the Ambassador was escorted into the room there had been an aide. Barging in on a irritated PM as he was preparing to meet with the Ambassador.

The Prime Ministers residence was a rather beautiful think, more practical showing the Prime Minister as drawn from the people rather than from some other class. The Prime Ministers predecessors had made thier mark on the manor and the PM was a lover of luxury and the law.

“Sorry Mr Prime Minister. The Minister of Defense sends apologizes.” The Fifth option which was a Special Forces raid on the Transmitter a rather large thing. Surround the village and find the house where the DJ was and the SSE of the place. The Prime Minister flipped through it and put to one side.

All options would require diplomatic permission to make sure that the norms of the region were not violated. The PM didn't want to lean on the OAC until a decision between the Palmyrions and the Mcnernians could be finalized.

“Leave the document… leave me.”

“Yes sir.’ The suited twentysomething retreated to the outer office and the PM looked at the Ambassador. “Apologies for that, would you like some tea, my people have put a bunch of options on the table and i would like to get to discussing them. Also HM no doubt sends congratulations on the imminent birth of a baby to the Lakambini. I have yet to hear back from the Royal Household.” He paused, annoyance flickering across his face. He had gone through the motions of preparing his own mind and then the aide had burst in. He looked at the Ambassador. “PLease be seated, may I pour you some tea?”

The Prime Minister began when and if the tea was served and greetings completed the PM turned to the business at hand tapping the pile. “We are inclined to get involved since diplomatically in certain places our name is mud. People want to get resources and good Karma due to the blundering of my predecessors. This will be a start and there are several options. One is to provide engineers, another is engineers and a battle group, probably Kings Havenian Rifles for convoy escort and the protection of engineers. Third we have is the whole issue of taking out the government. This would be two regimental combat teams backed up by some from the Air Force, neutralize the BDF and give the rebels and opening. Then we have a mere strike to destroy the Butu Power Radio, then there is a Special Forces raid on the radio station. In short we have all manner of options. But I want to hear what your government has in mind.”

Amb. Somido composed herself after sipping a cup of tea, which helped her relax her nerves. It was her first time meeting the McNernian PM, and some of her government's proposed options are perhaps some of the most unpopular.

"Palmyrion has a set of controversial options up its sleeves as to how it can solve the entire problem on the long term. Perhaps the most controversial of which would be balkanizing Bagongo along the length of the Luga River - along whose length our peacekeeping forces are stationed - and facilitate migration of both ethnicities. Butu takes everything north of the river, while Miyazenga take territory presently held by FROLIBO." Amb. Somido said, keeping her nerves steeled in spite of having a heavy heart saying the most controversial of the options Palmyrion has on the table - and even the next are probably controversial as well, but not as much as the balkanization plan.

"Yet another option, as told to me by my government, is to let BDF and FROLIBO fight to exhaustion again." She said, in a snarky tone and with facial mannerism (eye roll being the most prominent) to imply shade being thrown to the OAC and her home government.

"And if excrement hits the fan…" Somido said, almost saying a swear word, and quickly pausing to let the worst case scenario sink in "...we may have to withdraw from the Gola Accords - or at least acquire clearance from the OAC- and upscale the operation to an intervention, much like the third option you have, Your Excellency." She continued. "From what I have been told, my government has placed an entire Marine Strike Regiment - Marines, tanks, fighters, every single asset of the regiment - on heightened readiness for this." She added.

Somido also expressed that Palmyrion had military assets ready to assist in taking out the transmitter of Butu Power Radio. "If you should proceed with carrying out an airstrike or an SF raid to eliminate the Butu Power Radio transmitter, then CJTF-OST, based in Camp Maginhawa just 5 kilometers northeast of Tirame, has a detachment of four drones which can assist by providing real-time ISR for the operation." She said, knowing that CJTF-OST was currently being besieged by the Butu Ushindi Brigade.

Somido, however, was concerned about providing the rebels an opening. "I have, however, doubts about favoring the rebels, considering that both sides deeply hate each other. This will only deepen ethnic strife in Bagongo." She said, with concern - and she was somewhat aware of FROLIBO being littered with clans that pretty much competed with each other to the point of interfamilial hatred, which added to her fears of FROLIBO enacting racialist policies against the Butu should it ascend to power. "Not even our most controversial plan of removing the Butu-Miyazenga-Batwa categorization in identity certificates and national censuses may remove this." she added, alluding to a similar policy in Rwanda enacted after its genocide.

Shapter nodded "The Gola Accords are before the House of Assembly for a vote. By all accounts they stand to pass. Due to the situation we have been training up the RCTs as a last resort measure. Your offer of support is noted and most welcome. The interest we have is A markets for Mcnernian exports of High technology for one and the oil under lake Elizabeth for another. Anyone who can provide the oil to I and G Petroleum at a suitable price to them will be welcome as leader. Your Balkanization plan will interest the arms industry as the two new states will want arms." Shapter Paused. "I think we may need to have a sit down with Mugerwa." He looked at the Ambassador. “Meet with him and find out his intentions, maybe your government will find that his intentions are more pallatable….the Balkanization plan may well lead to war within a generation between two new states.” The PM pulled out Option three and handed it to the Ambassador, it was technical things showing the proposed strength of the Brigade for OP Knobkerrie. “I propose while we make a joint overature for peace we keep our options open and have a joint exercise between the Marines raised and the Brigade prepared for the operation. To prepare for the worst.”

Somido read the file regarding OP Knobkerrie, its strategic and tactics objectives and dispositions, alongside a notional ORBAT bared on paper for Somido to see. While she was not well versed in McNernian military doctrine and (thus, the type and manner of use of) equipment, her college ROTC training allowed her to understand military terminology real well. It was a large formation, most likely enough to, on the proviso that it is well-supplied and serviced, curb-stomp the entire BDF into oblivion by itself, and adding a Palmyrian Marine Strike Regiment working alongside it was the equivalent of overkill-level dogpiling.

After taking some time to skim the file in its entirety, at times focusing on some important details, she closed the file, briefly looking blankly at a point on the wall (and blinking twice) just behind PM Shapter's shoulders as she let the details - namely, the sheer size of TF Knobkerrie - sink in, before she spoke.

"We'll consider trying to negotiate with Mugerwa, and have our peacekeeping contingent try and establish contact with FROLIBO for negotiations - and while Option Three is best reserved for when worse comes to worst, or when OAC authorizes an intervention, a joint exercise between our forces is a good place to start. Regarding options one and two, while we would appreciate any form of help, we may have to negotiate with OAC to allow your forces to operate as peacekeepers alongside ours." Somido said - but not without speaking about her reservations regarding overtures for peace: "As for peace negotiations though, it would now be harder than ever, considering how the situation has escalated, to bring both sides to the negotiating table." she added.

The Prime Minister nodded. “I feel that a harder line against ceasefire breakage shoudl have been taken from the beginning. But then again this is based on Military Theorists at the Ministry of Defense and naive young officers at the Academy, basically you walk into the situation with the biggest stick and the others sit down and talk the problem out. The closest one has come to that theory is the push to put Mcnenrians on the Golan heights, the contribution was rejected. Perhaps for the best. We do things by the agreed upon book now.” Shapter sipped his tea. “The International Norms book.” No grand dreams of Conquest, with mcnernian policy decided for the most part by Parliament the books could be followed. Shapter looked at the Ambassador. “Though keep in mind the plans such as option three also need PArliamentary approval. You will have to testify before Parliament before long, they will also want to hear from the OAC and what they want. Parliament will want input, the goal is to have bodies to cover the ground as much as to overwhelm.”

Somido expressed full agreement and a willingness to testify in McNernian Parliament - but she expressed her desire to have OAC representatives present at the same time. For her, the McNernian Parliament needed to hear not only her testimony (as the ambassador of a country with perhaps the largest peacekeeper presence in Bagongo), but also the statement of the OAC regarding the Bagongo crisis - which may have well turned into a genocide as she was talking with the McNernian PM, considering how much the Butu and Miyazenga hated each other.

"I'm willing to testify in front of Parliament, but I would appreciate it - and hopefully I am not asking too much - if we can also hear the statement and testimony of the OAC at the same time." she said, perhaps trying not to ask too much from the McNernian prime minister as she expressed said desires.

“I need the OAC to see a joint proposal from our respective governments.” Said Shapter. “They approve then that will make this deployment palatable to Parliament. Though of course the situation changes and the proposal will have to change wiht it. One deployment without PArliamentary authorization and Im going to be out. ” One would know of the whole issues in another region being a problem. The King had slunk away, not on speaking terms with his wife perfering the company of his mistress and the fact of O’Malley being on the council and being in bed with the Aoun family made Shapters job somewhat harder. The Bishop took sadistic delight in trolling the PM sometimes.

"Options One and Two seem more palatable to the OAC, but with the situation derailing..." Somido said, as she briefly paused, gulping, inhaling, and exhaling, as the thought of genocide zoomed through her head "...the OAC may be more open to allowing us to directly intervene - from being peacekeepers, to being peacemakers. If the situation does go far down the level of genocides." Somido added.

"However, such peace wouldn't be enough if we don't help Bagongo achieve inclusive and egalitarian socioeconomic development, so a military effort to keep - and perhaps make - Bagongo peaceful again will have to be coupled with socioeconomic development initiatives." Somido noted, particularly aware of how Palmyrion was, deep down below (and at a level only those in higher government positions know), about to (and seeking to!) copy a close ally, Allanea, in providing corporate altruism to developing countries; the corporations are allowed to set up shop, and they provide competitively advantageous (in both quality and pricing) goods, services, and jobs, alongside charitable initiatives - while they get to improve their financial portfolios (increase of profits and expansion of assets being the least of which). "So if this upscales to us becoming the peacemakers we're gonna have to pour in money - and advisory assistance - to help develop Bagongo's socioeconomic standing after we make the peace." she added further, knowing that the Palmyrian peacekeeping operation was intended to be multi-dimensional - assistance in socioeconomic development, government integrity and efficiency, and military internal security and law enforcement - with gradual but timely inauguration and subsequent implementation of initiatives and programmes, until the situation got worse and tensions ran high to the point of Bagongo seeing the Palmyrian peacekeepers as complicit to Miyazenga oppression of Butu.

The PM would take note of the situation with a desperate military Aide arriving and causing Shapter to grit his teeth as the young mid level officer was escorted by his Adjuntant who carried the nuclear launch codes when the PM traveled. "I'm Sorry sir but I think you really need to have a look at the report." It was from the CRO and the SIS Station in Bagongo. The situation had escalated to both a confirmed genocide with a body count in the hundreds of thousands within hours and the possibility of people in the embassy asking for asylum. Palmyrion soldiers were fired on according to ANO satellite television when they had shot an envoy from the BDF for no apparent reason. At least that's what it was according to the government. Shapter handed the tablet back to the aide and turned to look at the Ambassador.

"Well it would appear the line from BDF command on the whole situation is that your people opened fire first...killing a man who wanted your people to leave peacefully." Shapter leaned back in his chair looking at her squarely. Im waiting to hear what you have to say.

Somido also received the same from news from her homeland - at least, as her own aides handed over to her a tablet, of different make, filled with tabs detailing the situation in Bagongo.

The violence was bared in front of her. Genocides, pogroms, lootings, lynchings - everything a Palmyrian could see happening in their lifetime and stomach to their limits. Somido sat stoic, no matter how blood-curdling the reports were. As someone with a fruitful ROTC cadet stint in her undergraduate years, and with a fair amount of military service herself (as Palmyrion had sent military assistance to Holy Marsh during its war with the Lardites starting in 1995, Somido being one of the thousands sent), she was exposed to pretty much every depraved form of violence humans could inflict on fellow humans, for the most absurd of excuses and alibis.

But what really stuck out was Palmyrians opening fire on a BDF envoy in Tirame - or so the Bagongolese government said. Somido looked up from the tablet and looked squarely at a point just above PM Shapter's left shoulder. Combat, indeed, is fast-paced - but for Somido, she didn't expect a Palmyrian to violate peacekeeping RoE - and one that ended with a fatality, no less.

“Decisions, decisions Ambassador….we have a choice to make, push for intervention or stand by and let the siituation spiral out of control….we should get your people out I know that much. But the norms must be followed.” Shapter paused. “Whatever help you need is yours.”

At this point, all that the ambassador could think of was intervention. Full stop. They - through their peacekeeping contingent - had just gotten themselves neck deep in hot, muddy water - and if Palmyrion refused to act now, their name would only be dragged further in the mud. Somido thought hard about it, briefly training her eyes lower before finally coming to a solution, considering that (at least for both of them) the only way to stop this genocide…

...was a full intervention deployment.

"That would be intervention, Your Excellency." Somido responded as she looked to PM Shapter again. The statement had a dry, emotionless tone - but what mattered was that they can come to a decision before their names get further dragged in the mud - first, by an act of belligerence from one of their peacekeepers, second, by not doing anything about the genocide, the latter being a problem faced by UNAMIR in Rwanda. "The only way to stop this genocide - and get us to a better position from which to stabilize Bagongo and end this ethnic strife - is an intervention." she added - but not before saying that OAC's authorization was needed. "However, there's no telling whether or not OAC will authorize an intervention, and allow us to move up from being peacekeepers to being peacemakers." Somido sternly said.

"Mcnernia could handle the intervention on our own but the multilateral way is probably going to be the best way forward." Shapter looked at the Ambassador and then looked among her aides. "Is your attache with you? I'd need to know the makeup of a Marine Strike regiment and where you'd be starting from."

Somido called for her military attaché, who was simply standing there near Somido, just waiting, standing stoic and stern. The man, Ret. FMAR (Field Marshal) Joseph Calanoga, stood a burly man at almost 6 feet and 2 inches - at the top range for the average Palmyrian, who usually stood at 5'8". He knew the ins and outs of the Marine Corps as a retired Field Marshal in the Palmyrian Marine Corps - and while the composition of a Marine Strike Regiment was publicly available (in the sense that documents of notional TO&Es were available, just like how notional US Army BCT TO&Es were available), it was understandable for PM Shapter to not know about it considering how only recently Palmyrion entered the McNernian political conscience as more than someone occupying a single line (and perhaps less than 1% of import/export shares) in McNernian economic portfolios. Calanoga had an honorable discharge from the military after decades of stellar service - first, as a junior platoon officer in the Counter-Revolutionary Marine Corps, then climbing the ranks up to becoming a Field Marshal commanding a Marine Strike Regiment before retiring due to old age (mandatory military retirement age in the AFP was 65) - but he was not eager to retire for good, having secured a position as the military attaché of Palmyrion to McNernia.

"Field Marshal Calanoga, I would like some assistance explaining to Prime Minister Shapter about a Marine Strike Regiment." Somido said, after which Calanoga approached Somido and greeted the Prime Minister before explaining what a Marine Strike Regiment was: organizational assets, missions, objectives, perhaps the whole nine yards summarized.

"Greetings, Your Excellency. I'm Retired Field Marshal Calanoga, and I am the Palmyrian military attaché to McNernia." Calanoga started. "A Marine Strike Regiment is mainly composed of a command element, a ground combat element, an aerial combat element, and a support and services element. It's channeled after the US Marine Corps' Marine Expeditionary Unit.." He continued - but it wasn't all, for it would begin a litany of the composition of each.

"The command element mainly consists of HQ staff: human resources, ops and plans, logistics and resource management, comms, and HQ-based support assets." He said.

"A ground combat element is centered around a Battalion Landing Team of mechanized amphibious infantry reinforced with, among others tanks, engineers, and recon assets." Calanoga continued.

"The aerial combat element consists of aerial support assets consisting of tiltrotors, helicopters, and vertical and short take off and landing fixed wing aircraft." Calanoga added even more - and at this point, he was feeling that the long lecture was getting both Somido and Shapter bored.

"The support and services element is pretty self-explanatory, using logistics vehicles to maintain steady supplies of fuel, ammunition, food, and water to combat units, as well as providing services and support assets such as maintenance and medical care. All in all the Regiment has 2,500 men; for more details, declassified notional tables of organization and equipment are available online, but 1 MSR's details are now available." Calanoga ended, before placing a brown folder on the table titled "1 MSR - Document of Organization and Assets", written in bold, red letters on the front cover.

"Any thoughts, Your Excellency? That's probably the most and least Palmyrion can devote for an intervention force. Straddling a balance between sheer numerical size and firepower assets so we can keep the numbers low enough for OAC to be easy with…" Somido said, "...while giving the intervention force just enough firepower assets to actually put up a decent fight." she added.

Shapter took it and leafed through it before handing it back to the Military aide behind him. "Well our concern is the large number of paramilitaries that are attached to the Army hence a full two RCTs forming a Brigade. Of course there is the whole issue of FROLIBO. What will they do...there is all possibility they will engage in serious atrocities." Though of Course the PM had taken the time to authorize a sit down with FROLIBOs reps outside the country. "We would need basing and agreements with the OAC in regards to staging and such…." He turned to his uniformed aide a Major General of the Intelligence Corps and told him to consult MoD about getting the OP Knobkerrie forces revised.

" All seems to be in order also I suppose there is also your OPPlan for a solo intervention." The Major General would give the papers to a MoD courier who would take them to the MoD Planning Bureau. The issue would be complicated. “We intervene and topple the Butu government, what do we do with FROLIBO, what do we do with former BDF, what do we do about paramilitaries, how do we get two ethnic groups that hate each other to sit down at the table and form a government….”

"Palmyrion certainly has a bigger force on ready - and I've heard the AFP is gonna toss in a combined arms brigade from the Army, and two fighter detachments and an attack detachment from the Air Force. Armor, mechanized, and motorized infantry in the same unit, plus an attached Army aviation squadron." Somido replied, as Shapter raised the possibility of Palmyrion going into the fray by itself - and knowing that to many analysts back home, a single Palmyrian Army combined arms brigade, supported by at least a single squadron of fighters from the air force, and kept well stocked for the duration of the fight, can defeat the entire BDF - and do so quickly.

"However, talks about post-war stabilization efforts are perhaps to be reserved for when the shooting stops and the soothing begins - but for Palmyrion, it would be the usual hearts and minds. Infrastructure, development, public services, helping the government be at least a half-decent one. All the while we keep the peace after helping make it." Somido added, apparently snarkily exasperated (hardly) thinking (hard) about post-war stabilization efforts, thinking that talking about them before the shooting even stopped was an egregious example of counting one's chickens before they hatched.

“It is best to have a full plan laid out for when the OAC asks. Then you should have more detailed plans for the intervention itself rather than long term planning.” The Mcnernians were concerned that such a government as installed by a coalition would not do the job. “We could potentially reach out to Mugerwa and convince him not to go full Aparthied but the fact is that he is set in his ways and his confederates are very much of similar mind. Keep in mind that I am going off my people’s work which is somewhat limited compared to the work your people have done.” The Adjutant to the Prime Minister a Major General of the Intelligence Corps of the Army came over after standing by the window going through a tablet which had previously been handed to the PM, he had been watching the ANO live coverage. Showing the march towards the Palmyrion base. ANO cameras greedily drank in the scene which included a certain sargent paraded before the cameras. Shapter turned to the Ambassador. “There is one confirmed survivor.”

The news of a survivor amongst the slaughtered Palmyrian squad brought an air of relief to Somido's lungs - but more important matters had to be attended to. "I guess with scat hitting the fan, the only way to get this done with is an intervention. Palmyrion's intervention plan may see revision pending updates to the situation - and especially from what I learned talking with you, Your Excellency - but it's nice to know that McNernia has an intervention force allotted. As for post intervention stabilization, I guess it would take a lot of effort and incentive - and perhaps a big stick approach - to prevent Mugerwa from enacting apartheid and other racialist policies, but recovery and development plans can be formulated later. It would be nice if we can bring FROLIBO representatives to the table as well as the OAC itself, but whatever we have talked about now is perhaps fruitful enough to be serious - and Palmyrion will make its own efforts to establish contact with FROLIBO diplomats." Somido said.

“May I suggest a joint effort to reach out to the FROLIBO? Also the whole Aparthied thing, many in Mcnernia probably wont care about people a region away deciding who may do what. The main interest is for us is by and large the oil and of course the Genocide. Stopping that would restore our reputation I suppose but the oil would ensure prices stay low and there is investment because our oil supply isnt dependant on people we have alienated with our ambitions. Which we have renounced. ALso of course there is a market for Mcnernian goods.”

"Palmyrion is also seeking markets for her goods. If we are to take a page from our Allanean friends - specifically their affectionately named Global Kindness Offensive - we might as well engage in a Global Corporate Charity Offensive. As for McNernian vs Palmyrian goods we might as well have our MNCs take everything from here, and take care of the rest by competition and creative destruction after we have secured an orderly foothold for them and their goods. We can get the Mugerwa admin - if indeed FROLIBO wins this one out - to be reliant on us for armaments and energy - all a preparation for when Apartheid becomes a problem, in which we can use armaments and energy - in this case, petroleum - as leverage against Mugerwa. If he doesn't stop his own take on the Apartheid he might as well say buh-bye to armaments deals and his admin's cut in energy deals." Somido remarked, apparently speaking her mind too loudly about how to keep Mugerwa in check and not, for lack of a better English word that could capture the Palmyrian concept, make kalat.

"Or we can cut our problems in two halves by balkanising Bagongo into something like Rwanda and Burundi." Somido quipped half-jokingly, the statement drenched in a sauce formed with seriousness as its body, and dark humor sprinkled in like salt, pepper, and various other condiments to provide robustness, balance, and variance in flavour to the body.

“Well Ambassador I do believe that our people should be in touch. Our people should be talking. We have done enough. Now it remains to the diplomats to secure the OACs blessing for an intervention. ANd of course the submission of our minutes to PArliament for approval in addition to your testimony. The Defense and Foreign Affairs committees of Assembly and Peers, Sciathdearg is the one to look out for in Lords, his money carries a lot of weight...a sound minded man but speaking sometimes of the sort of ventures that got us into the edge of economic ruin.” One could tell this man was both reviled and a little bit feared. “Be not troubled by our domestic squabbling. Be excited for this venture that we have begun.” Shapter reached out for a handshake.

"The world's a rough place. Doesn't care if you're blessed or not. But it's always good to have allies by your side, and hopefully we have gotten to a consensus now. I'll also reach out to OAC to secure permission for an intervention, as well as make contact with FROLIBO for negotiations." Somido said, as she grasped Shapter's hand for a handshake - and while they shook hands, she leaned forward and said, softly: "May this be the start of fruitful relations between our countries, Your Excellency."

"Of course Madam Ambassador. My regards to your monarch." Said Shapter. She would be escorted out with contact information for the relevant Ministries, Defense and Foreign Affairs and the scheduling of the Testimony to Parliament.

Trouble in Bagongo (IC/CLOSED/MATURE THEMES)

Postby Greater Carloso » Tue Oct 08, 2019 4:28 pm

*** Ngomawa, Bagongo

After a night of heavy drinking, Major General Opega, commander of the 3rd Mahwan Infantry Division, found himself thrown over the back of a sofa and with a crippling hangover. He squinted his eyes as he looked around, seeing all his officers either fast asleep or struggling to recover. The house they were occupying was absolutely ruined, with pools of sick and smashed furniture everywhere. Opega's memory of what exactly happened was poor, but he was pretty certain the family living here had managed to escape the roving bands of drunken soldiers. His men had managed to do tremendous damage to the town, forcing many of the residents, regardless of ethnicity, to flee for sanctuary in the isolated villages of Kusamsi or Mahalikuzi near the ominous Mount Mlimabisi, a huge and dangerous stratovolcano that dominated the local terrain. Suddenly, Opega was jolted to his feet by the whistle and then the violent explosion of an artillery shell hit the ground outside, shaking everything inside the house. Seconds later, another shell landed slightly further away. His heart began racing when he realised what was happening.

"Men, wake up! We're under attack!" Opega roared, scrambling to try and find his rifle, "How can this be? We've heard nothing from Jwe Kubwa!"

Little did he know, FROLIBO had already completely destroyed the infantry battalion stationed in Jwe Kubwa and Jwe Ndogo near the line of control. Mugerwa had pulled off the genius move of transporting a large percentage of his forces through the lawless border region in Yughana, an area which the government in Bussa had next to no control over. Opega's forces in Sambare in Mahalima were in the process of being totally routed as well, with absolutely nowhere to escape but the dense jungles once FROLIBO secured Ngomawa. He did not know it, but the situation for the entire 3rd Mahwan Infantry Division was looking very grim. Now, the entire region stretching from Kayima to the strategically important Lake Kigali was now under threat of falling to the Miyazenga rebels, along with a sizeable chunk of the Bagongo Land Defence Force.

Columns of FROLIBO armoured vehicles swooped into the town, meeting no resistance as the totally disorientated and hungover soldiers struggled to get to their posts, having lost their weapons during the night. Dozens of Butu got on their knees as the Miyazenga rebels rolled in, knowing they had no chance against them. Those that fired upon FROLIBO were mercilessly cut down. Quiet unlike how the Butu soldiers had massacred the Miyazenga, FROLIBO showed surprising leniency towards the rank and file soldiers who had surrendered. The officers were not so lucky. The terrified soldiers were quick to rat out their commanders when the Miyazenga demanded it. Presumably, because they were the ones who actually ordered the genocide in the first place, the rebels showed absolutely no mercy to them. After being killed, the officers were decapitated and their heads were put on spikes to be displayed as a grisly warning to the Butu populace.

Opega looked outside, only to see his worst nightmares coming through. FROLIBO would no doubt be coming to take his head next. He did the only thing he could think of and ran to the nearest car; a yellow Nifonese-manufactured saloon, hotwired it and got onto the road leading to Mahalima, leaving all of his men to their fate. As he put his foot to the accelerator, he looked behind to see that nobody was following him. It appeared they hadn't taken any notice of his escape. Obega breathed a sigh of relief knowing he was safe. Now, he would link up with his forces in Mahalima to the north to warn them about the unexpected FROLIBO attack on the division headquarters. He turned on the car radio, twisting the dial until he could clearly hear the voice of who he thought was DJ Nyoka on the Butu Power Radio station. He needed to get up to date with the latest on the cleansing of the Miyazenga from Bagongo.

"My Butu brothers! Some terrible news just coming out of Karonda on the shores of Lake Kigali. The 3rd Mahwan Infantry Division has been completely surrounded and destroyed by the Miyazenga rats. General Obega is dead and all major settlements in the area are now under FROLIBO control. What a terrible defeat for Bagongo!" 'DJ Nyoka' announced. Obega's heart dropped, then he started to panic.

"This... it can't be true. I'm alive! I'm fucking alive!" Obega croaked to himself hoarsely.

The voice of 'DJ Nyoke' continued, "Resistance appears futile my friends. Contact has been lost with all BLDF units south of the Kayima Line of Control. Imagine what terrible things these Miyazenga animals are now doing to our people!"

Obega came to a rise in the road. When he got to the other side, an entire convoy of FROLIBO vehicles was coming in the opposite direction. "Oh fuck this!" he yelled, swerving the car off the road and running into the jungle on foot. He stumbled on a branch but continued to run, as far and as fast as he could. Miyzenga rebels were in hot pursuit, shouting and firing sporadic shots in his general direction, though none managed to hit him. Suddenly, his foot got caught in the root of a tree and he went flying face-first into the ground. When he turned around, he saw a squad of FROLIBO rebels looming above him, rifles pointed straight at his head. With not so much as the energy to plead for mercy, Obega accepted his fate and closed his eyes. Rather than getting a bullet between his eyes, the soldiers grabbed him by the neck of his uniform and dragged him away as their prisoner. Whether by fate or just pure luck, he had managed to escape death today.

*** Karonda, Bagongo

Two hours had passed since FROLIBO had swept into the region and decimated every BLDF unit from Kayima to Ngomawa. The remnants of the 3rd Mahwan Infantry Division were now scatted amongst the towns of Vyanda and Karonda, with an armoured battalion effectively entrapped in Murehe by Mugerwa's forces in Ngomawa. The sudden defeat and fake broadcasts by the DJ Nyoke impersonator had instilled a great sense of panic and impending doom throughout the ranks as the soldiers feared for their lives that FROLIBO was coming for them next. A Major Koman had taken command of the situation in Karonda from the gym of a local secondary school and had promptly ordered the men to begin fortifying the town in preparation for the enemy's arrival, setting up layers upon layers of impromptu barricades on every street. Meanwhile, citizens were forced to fill any bag they could find with sand and silt from the shores of Lake Kigali and reinforce the defences further. At battalion headquarters, Major Koman had conveyed a meeting with his own officers to discuss the threat. There was a great amount of disunity on what should be done.

"What little information we have from Ngomawa and the other villages is that our casualties have been absolute, while the enemy has suffered minimal losses if any. They took advantage of our unpreparedness after last night. Our only option is to play on the defence and wait for the nearest opportunity to retreat into Zairo." one of Koman's subordinates suggested.

Another officer agreed, "You're correct. The government of Zairo is friendly to the Butu. However, if we were quick, I think we could easily escape without needing to defend the town."

"Nonsense! Zairo is unstable as it is." someone dissented, "They don't want to get involved in Bagongo. Besides, what makes you think Mugerwa will stop at the border? He will not hesitate to invade Zairo and kill us there, just like how he didn't hesitate to move through Yughana."

One of Koman's more zealous and anti-Miyazenga colleagues shot out of the garden chair he was sitting in, "No! We need to attack the Miyazenga rats! They only crushed the others because they let their guard down. A two-front assault on Ngomawa with the armoured battalion striking from the west, while our three battalions attack from the south! Those cockroaches can't beat us man-to-man! We can message Karaba to use their fighters to bomb the bastards to bits."

Major Koman mediated on these options for a few moments. He hadn't ever expected to be thrown into such a dire situation. As far as he could tell, the suggestion to retreat into Zairo was far too risky. While he owed a duty of care to his men first and foremost, guiding FROLIBO into Zairo would have the possibility of expanding the war beyond the country's borders, and thus trigger an OAS invasion of Bagongo. Likewise, it was indeed correct that normally FROLIBO could not fight the BLDF through conventional means, though this situation may now have changed with the potentially thousands of weapons and many vehicles they had likely captured from the defeated battalions earlier on. It was risky, but the idea of launching a two-pronged offensive against FROLIBO looked like the most promising.

Raising his head, he solemnly glared at the officers, "We will first wait for the enemy to arrive. If and when they attack, I estimate we will be able to hold out relatively easily and they will be forced to retreat. When I feel the time is right, we will launch a grand offensive up north towards the Kayima Line and breakthrough to friendly territory, first securing Kilimaba before we liberate Ngomawa, linking up with the armoured battalion and then pushing up the road to Kayima. While we make our final preparations for holding the town, I will request immediate air support from Karaba. Dismissed!"

OOC: I'm doing this on a laptop I borrowed from a female friend. (Lucky girl has a laptop with a much larger screen resolution than mine. I envy her.)

OOC #2: The latter half will involve a lot of scat. You have been warned. (This isn't OOC #2 for nothing.)

IC:

Camp Maginhawa, 5km NNE of Tirame, Bagongo

LTC Topacio couldn't believe what he just heard. It was the final moments of Checkmate 2-1, as its squad leader grossly violated the peacekeeping rules of engagement and shot dead - in the head, from what the live footage from body cameras recorded during the event before they lost contact with Checkmate 2-1 - an envoy of the force coming in to Bagongo. He couldn't even believe further that they spared Sergeant Luna, the squad leader who killed the envoy - and this he learned from an ANO newspaper and broadcast that his commanding staff showed to him. Granted he'd heard this transmission on the day of the event itself, and read the ANO newspaper and watched the ANO broadcast on the days after, but he still froze in disbelief even it was played to him for over ten to twenty times over the past few days.

Now how would he ever get those bodies back to their loved ones was a thing.

"Sir. Paparating na ang kalaban. Malamang sasalakayin nila ang kampo, sir." (Sir. Hostiles are incoming. They'll most likely raid the camp, sir.) one of his officers told him as he sat frozen in utter disbelief, shock, and dismay. LTC Topacio gave the officer a cold stare over his shoulder as he contemplated about the fast pace of violence unfolding - and also reassessed his career option and path, considering he'd take up this dirty work. Somebody had to do it after all, but Topacio was now reconsidering signing up to do it among the handful others who also signed up to do the same.

"Tell me, soldier. Papaano natin mare-recover ang mga katawan ng mga pinaslang?! Paano natin madedepensahan ang kampo natin?!" (How are we going to recover the bodies of the slain? How do we defend our camp?) LTC Topacio said in a violent, angry outburst as he angrily stood and threw in the air the paperwork laid out in front of him. "Pa-kalma muna ako. Babalik ako mamaya." (I'll calm down first. I'll come back later). Topacio continued and went to his personal quarters - a small, relatively spartan but comfortably adequate room filled with his personal effects - but not before he commanded his staff to get him a SITREP of the situation by the time he comes back an hour later.

"Paglabas ko sa loob ng isang oras, dapat may SITREP na kayo tungkol sa mga mag-aatake na maipakita sa akin. Get to work, that's an order! DISMISSED!" (Once I get out within one hour, you must all have a SITREP on the attackers that you can show me. Get to work, that's an order. DISMISSED!) Topacio angrily commanded as he angrily slammed the door of his personal quarters with a loud, metallic thud as the metal door struck hard the metal doorposts and threshold.

Topacio, in his angry outburst, stomped on the ground with his right foot, afterwards deeply inhaling and exhaling to help ease his anger. He's had anger issues since his childhood - and in his days at PMA - Kalinga, it was a recurring problem that hindered him. Even up to his career in the Armed Forces, it was still a major issue in his work ethic: his hot-headedness. Once he calmed down a bit he sat on a chair by his personal desk, looking at his personal effects arrayed on the length of the rather spartan foldable desk. One of those personal effects was a pre-departure souvenir, a rather large dog-tag with his family picture engraved (and colored by electroplating) upon it, sent by his elder daughter (he has two daughters and a son) before he deployed to Bagongo as the new commanding officer of CJTF-OST.

It reminded him of what he fought for back home. The Topacio family. His children's married families (and by extension, his in-laws). The Royal Commonwealth. And he was not only keeping the (already lost) peace in Bagongo, but also securing a place for Palmyrion's interests, however mutual it was in terms of Palmyro-Bagongolese relations, in the region. He was one of the more-or-less one thousand Palmyrian soldiers in the region sent to Bagongo as a peacekeeping contingent, and he was at the helm of the task force. He always found a personal space into which he could retreat to regain his sanity after losing a good lot of his temper, and it was this personal quarters no matter how spartan it was compared to his condominium room back in Palmyrion.

While he contemplated about the existentialist aspects of his deployment, he couldn't help but also mind at the noise of his staff working hard to produce a SITREP about the incoming attack. Topacio was regaining his sanity and cool as the minutes went by, his existentialist mental prose helping to calm his mind, the noise of staff working hard to move on from this serious blunder to focus on the more dire situation: an attack on the camp.

Fifty-five minutes passed and just as Topacio was about to go out from his personal quarters and into the command center, a knock came on his door, and an officer told him the SITREP was ready. "Sir, Major Francis del Sol, reporting, ready na po ang SITREP, sir." said the voice on the other side of the door. Topacio opened the door as the officer greeted him with a salute, with Topacio saluting back and asking the officer to hand over the document to him, which the officer promptly handed over. "You're dismissed." Topacio said as the officer saluted again, with Topacio saluting back before the officer turned away from him.

Topacio thoroughly leafed over the pages of the SITREP as made by the staff. The so-called Ushindi Brigade had already surrounded the camp and were taking advantage of the fact that CJTF-OST can't open fire unless in defense. Possible enemy indirect fire support included rather old but useful Soviet mortars, howitzers, and MRL systems; likewise, possible direct fire support could be in the form of anti-tank guns and recoilless rifles, in addition to man-portable AT systems like RPG-7s. All of this was merely speculation based on BDF armory and the prevalence of Soviet weapons systems in insurgent groups (the collapse of the Soviet Union, after all, meant a lot of arms in the black market as the Russians tried to dispose of their large stockpiles of weaponry to make some cash and just about get by). As for battle tactics the Ushindi Brigade knew that directly engaging the Palmyrians was suicidal at best, so their best bet would be to try and draw out the Palmyrians under the impression that their firebases were undefended, bombard the Palmyrians hard enough to deny them sleep, and harass their supply lines, while preventing FROLIBO from assisting the Palmyrians via a river crossing.

Were they hopeless? Not for Topacio. Not for anyone in this Palmyrian military base. Not for the fucking AFP who believed in "Service and Honor by Strength and Guile". Not for every Palmyrian who sang "Palmyria Mabuhay" as their national anthem, for fuck's sake. And, as Topacio was a Christian, not for Him, for Topacio knew He would grant them divine guidance and assistance to teach these genocidal maniacs a lesson.

After ten minutes of leafing through the SITREP followed by ten more minutes of contemplation on his plan, he went out his personal quarters and walked to the discussion table of the command room.
" 'Tion!" an officer exclaimed upon noticing Topacio emerge from out of his quarters. The officer immediately saluted and all the others stood in attention, as Topacio promptly and immediately commanded them to go back to whatever they were doing with a succinct "As you were."

Topacio called for his most senior officers to meet with him to discuss about how they would defend the camp. "Nabasa ko yung SITREP. Mukahang malubha ang sitwasyon natin pero huwag tayo magpadala sa takot. Clear?!" (I read the SITREP. Looks like our situation is grave but we should not let ourselves be brought by fear. Clear?!) Topacio said, to which his officers replied with a stern "Sir, yes sir!"

"Sige. Eto plano natin." (Alright. Here's our plan.) Topacio began with his plan, as he laid out the general direction for it. Channeling the enemy into killzones whilst forcing them to approach through disadvantageous avenues, namely terrain that would prohibit moving insufficiently mechanized heavy equipment (knowing that the terrain wasn't exactly friendly to wheeled vehicles; their MRAP IFVs and ISVs can attest to this, though not as much), narrow avenues that didn't provide much room for dispersion and maneuver, and killzones (kill pockets?) that provided easy ingress but difficult egress. Mortar fire would be responded to with counterbattery fire, and the HHC's counter-battery radar (CBR) can help locate enemy artillery batteries. Drone patrols would soon include two drones on station in 24-hour shifts: one unarmed and conducting surveillance with the other armed with guided weapons in an armed surveillance role. Priority targets for heavy weaponry were targets carrying direct fire weapons systems that could pose a threat to the external defenses (a HESCO barrier wall interspersed with firing parapets and relatively stout and fat towers from which MG teams could rain fire).

"Traps, sir. Para mas masaya ang kanilang pag-atake. Traps sa killzones at avenues of approach." (Traps, sir. So their attacks can be more fun. Traps at the killzones and avenues of approach) the S3 said. "Gawa rin tayo ng fake minefields para ma-channel sila sa mga avenues at killzones keme na ganyan. Besides, mag-aaksaya pa ba sila ng oras sa pag-demine ng mga pekeng minefield?" (Let's also make fake minefields to channel them into those avenues and killzones. Besides, are they gonna waste time demining fake minefields?) he quipped in addition.

"Magaling, magaling. Nasa imahinasyon na lang natin ang mga traps na magagawa natin." Topacio remarked, apparently having shit-smeared punji stakes - banned under the 1980 Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons - in mind. "Sir, not the punji stakes, please." the S3 quipped, to the laughter of the officers on the table. "Pwede rin." (Can do.) Topacio added, which turned the giggles into loud laughter and facepalms from the officers. "Good Lord. Araw-araw, patuloy tayong lumalayo sa Diyos." (Good Lord. Everyday, we stray further from God.) the S3 replied in a jest of dark humor.

When the laughter subsided, Topacio soon said more....shit. Yes. Literal shit. "Also, may story din ako tungkol sa tae." Topacio added, as the officers imitated the mock of vomiting and pretending to have heard too much kalat[1], after just deciding to listen anyways. Afterwards Topacio told the story of how, in his CRF days, his unit would mix human urine and manure from battlefield latrines with water to make a multi-purpose "scat slurry". They, and other friendly units, would use the "scat slurry" in various ways to maim the enemy; coat punji stakes in them, lure sniffing dogs to traps, or contaminate the enemy's food and water supplies or, by just throwing them into the enemy camp itself, an enemy installation in general. The latter had the purpose of both causing illness (not least of which was E. coli outbreaks) among the ranks, in which "general exposure" to "scat slurry" tossed recklessly into bases was enough (enemy consumption of contaminated food and water being gravy - well, diarrhea and the aforementioned "scat slurry" share color with gravy after all - on the chicken), and forcing the enemy to dispose of their food and water stores by incineration, making them burn fuel and lose food and water in a triple whammy to their logistical supply.
Of course, such a plan was all serious, and even if the "scat slurry" part invited more than a well-deserved dose of toilet humor, it was, at the end of the day, still an official order.

One would be forgiven to think that the Palmyrians know nothing about the local terrain - but that would probably be an innocent (but far-reaching) mistake at best, considering how almost a year or two of deployment was more than enough time for CJTF-OST to conduct geographical surveys of the surrounding area (well, they had to anyways, to aid in picking a suitable site for setting up a base camp), and gather enough information about local geographical and geological features (with aid from the locals as well, back before Butu Power convinced them that the Palmyrians were collaborating with the Miyazenga).

Granted they did not have as much intimate knowledge of the terrain as the Ushindi Brigade did, but local geographical and geological surveys dating to as far back as the initial stages of the Palmyrian deployment, in addition to publicly available and easily accessible information of Bagongo's geography and geology (to include such stuff as peer-reviewed journals and atlases of Bagongolese geography and geology, not to mention Wikipedia, good old Google, and SetsuEarth), gave them a clue of Bagongolese terrain. AFP Code of Conduct dictated that soldiers in the field ought to, in their free time, be engaging in (preferably squad-level) bull sessions involving self-criticism and criticism, or studying literature and information about the area of operations (in this case, Bagongo) to know more about their social, political, cultural, and geographical features, aspects, assets, and liabilities, all in conjunction with recreation - and this would also lead to better understanding of the Bagongolese area of operations.

It was then that S3 marked geographical features of interest that can be tactically exploited for the defense of Camp Maginhawa.

The plan would be carried out the next day after that raunchy, scat-laden discussion for as long as the enemy wasn't attacking yet. CJTF-OST would have its darker-skinned soldiers[2] dress up like local farmers before deploying them out of camp (preferably at night or in the early hours of dawn so as to be stealthy) to carry out the preparations. Meanwhile, and before the operation was conducted, the sustenance company assigned to the peacekeeping contingent actually took the "scat slurry" idea seriously (as should the entire OPORD be, really), and started gathering urine and manure from the camp's latrines and restrooms before mixing them with water to make a scat slurry; of course, they would take care to properly sanitize themselves after preparing the scat slurry.

Making a fake minefield was relatively simple: make a professionally-looking sign denoting warnings for a minefield, placing border posts and sparse barbed wire around the area they wanted to mark as a minefield. The enemy probably couldn't be bothered to actually know if this minefield was the real deal, so they'd just maneuver around it anyways (and Bagongolese soils, being made of laterite like much of central-southern Afruika, had high iron and aluminium content anyways, complicating demining missions further), and to make things even more interesting, they placed probably one or two Claymores in a dummy minefield to convince the enemy they're dealing with the real thing. The fake minefields were positioned such that they forced the enemy into either going into killzones with easy ingress but difficult egress, or approaching through disadvantageous avenues that were narrow (so as to force the enemy to concentrate into the avenue while restricting maneuverability) and difficult or dangerous to traverse (the least of which were quicksand areas and areas with soft, unstable soils). The fake minefields would also be pre-sighted for mortar fire like any real minefield would be.

Next, with their foldable individual shovels, the soldiers dug pits into which they would embed punji stakes. These pits would have a cluster of punji stakes; to make removal of one's leg more complicated, some pits had tight clusters of barbed wire with them and others with downward punji stakes. Some soldiers intentionally did not poop and held their poop so they would poop during the preparations; others had laxatives on the ready so the more constipated ones can poop; a few others had jerry cans of relatively thick scat slurry prepared before hand. Following a Number Two, they would smear as much of the punji stakes and the barbed wire with their scat so as to help infect the wounds of anyone unlucky enough to step into one - and knowing that battlefield medicine among the Ushindi Brigade was most likely abysmally poor, this would be a good dealer of battlefield fatalities to the incoming Ushindi Brigade. The punji stake pits would be sufficiently camouflaged before the soldiers moved on to make the next one, with punji stake pits being adequately spaced. The punji stakes would be placed within the fake minefields to deter demining, and also in the artificially made channels of approach that the fake minefields would theoretically force the incoming attackers into.

The drones would soon patrol in rotating 12-hour shifts and in pairs. One drone was to be unarmed and providing surveillance assistance to the defenders while the other was armed with guided weapons in an armed surveillance role. They would perhaps cruise at an altitude higher than the rebels' AAA could reach; for example the Igla, which the rebels were suspected of having, could only reach up to 3,500 meters in altitude while the drone usually operated at 7,500m, with a ceiling of 15,000m; thus, operating at about 4,000m was enough to provide wide-area surveillance.

Meanwhile the soldiers dug up foxholes wherever feasible, and also linking them up wherever feasible to make trenches. With each soldier having individual shovels the foxholes - and by extension the trenches - could be dug up in no time. Some foxholes would also be reinforced with overhead protection for even more protection against when the enemy decides to use mortars to try and bomb the living lights out of them.

The recce platoon of the HQ and HQ Company would also make preparations for nighttime hit-and-run direct action raids into Ushindi Brigade camps and troop concentrations so as to bring the fight to them, to at least make their supporting assets weaker.

Notes:
[1] In modern usage (we're talking 2019), kalat in Filipino parlance is used to denote suspiciously raunchy stuff; it is, perhaps (and depending on who you ask), applicable considering that kalat literally translates to "mess" from Filipino to English.
[2] Now, Palmyrion IC and OOC isn't racist, but selecting soldiers with dark complexion helps to make the trick work, especially now that the Ushindi Brigade rely so much on Mark 1 Eyeball.
