As it might be obvious, I'm really not in a position IRL to contribute to this RP on even an irregular basis. Besides non-NS stuff taking up my usual NS writing time and energy, I'm currently going through a re-working of my nation and helping to re-work the region I'm a part of, so the existence of Insulindia is in flux.

Allanea and Pan-Asiatic States, if you want to continue any sort of story in Insulindia, I give you permission to RP as Avonian and Insulindian characters and groups. I can answer questions OOCly and via TG but I simply can't get any quality posts on the IC thread anytime soon. If you want to simply drop the story, that's fine as well.

Honestly I'm trying to experiment with NS RPing on this thread. I want to see whether economic RPing without direct conflict can be realistic and fun at the same time.

My next move might be to effect sanctions on membership to CAPINTERN altogether, which is a move that'll shoot PAS in the foot in the short term. Economic decline is a recipe for rebellion, and there's already one happening in Aceh.

Also, I might start launching a covert spy offensive on CAPINTERN states like Allanea, and I was wondering whether you'd be interested in RPing that kind of whack-a-mole scenario. I tried doing this a few months ago with Anglomir and it worked out pretty well. There are new things I'd like to try though, like launching Submarines off the coast of nations to relay frequencies and sabotaging technologies of other states (like cellphone tech etc.)

Again, it's all very experimental, so I understand if you're no longer interested. Either case, thanks for playing along thus far.

I mean, here's how I view the issues, one after another:

1. There's like a dozen or two CAPINTERN members, many of whom are also members of a larger trade body, the RFTA. I'm not sure it's meaningful to sanction them other than to make a statement. On the other hand, based on what I've read on the topic of revolutions and rebellion, economic upturns are more likely to cause a rebellion than depressions, because in an upturn, people's expectations of how their well-being will improve will outrun the reality and then they get really, but really angry.

2. I'm no no way certain how to do a spy RP of the kind you want. I'm not even good at doing spy stuff offensively much less defensively, which is harder to write well. If you like though I'll provide some explanations on my nation's intelligence services and defense infrastructure.

3. I mean what's the point of exporting fentanyl? This sounds like something criminal drug lords would do because they're after profit, rather than something a government agency would do as policy, or a legal drug manufacturer. Is the idea to just 'poison the capitalists'?

For the record, Allanea, broadly speaking, doesn't have drug laws.

I'm not sure whether it's obvious by now but it is absolutely critical to the survival of political structure in the Pan-Asiatic States to have a Western country to use as scapegoat for various shortcomings the government has, so I still need a country, like Allanea or Yohannes, to RP with every now and then. So yeah, I'd very much love your contribution!

Well, this RP has several interconnected aspects to it, and you're free to choose which one you find most comfortable with "fighting" on. I've seen a lot of your threads in the past and I think you have the social and political cognition to handle the kind of work I wanna put into this RP.

First and foremost, there's the literal proxy war occurring in South Reinkalistan (who hasn't been very active recently) and United Avon. You can coordinate with them for more information, or just backread the IC threads. I'm currently sending attaches to destabilize their countries and hopefully impose a government sympathetic to the Pan-Asiatic States. From a Pan-Asiatic citizen's perspective, it's an anti-imperialist war, for government officials who control most of Asia's industry, it's an investment into the future.

Second, there's the less conspicuous economic theatre. Following the Third Pacific War, many nations condemned the Pan-Asiatic States for its Communist agenda and various "anti-individual" policies. In an attempt to subvert the Pan-Asiatic revolution, countries like the U.S have sanctioned and impeded trade by the Pan-Asiatic States. With an upsurge of political independence, the Pan-Asiatic States is attempting to heat-up tensions within said reactionary powers in the hopes that a weaker Western economy could flow the capital back into the Pan-Asiatic States and its developing-economy allies (Samporna, Skyhooked, Allied Iran, et al.).

Third, the Pan-Asiatic States is attempting to quell reactionary dissent within its own borders by appeasing the needs of the masses. This is a wide theatre, and I highly recommend checking out my News Thread (see sig) for specifics.

At the end of the day, I'm game for anything. But mostly, I want to develop my fentanyl RP project, as I've told Allanea above.

Simply put, I need a country with a large consumer base to pour drugs, booze, and other addictive substances into (whether through legal and/or illegal means) as a cheap ploy to expand Pan-Asiatic markets. Obviously, local politicians wouldn't take this lightly, and this is where the RP aspect comes into play. You'll attempt to slow-down importation, while I speed-up exportation. This can be through a variety of forms which I can explain further if you're still interested.

Not as simple as the reality is. In a nutshell, the ploy is this:

1. PAS drug retailers use fentanyl as a pain reliever through various consumer-sized goods. Meant to be prescribed for patients with illnesses that need it, the fentanyl is extremely cheap.
2. Foreign doctors are either bribed or, on their own account, begin prescribing the drugs wholesale.
3. Target foreigners who don't even have the illness get prescribed the drug, become addicted to it.
4. Doctors begin backpedaling the drug, more addicts = more consumers
5. Ministry of State and Public Security is brought in to buy foreign cops to look the other way and hijack ports.
6. Drug addiction becomes an epidemic, the Pan-Asiatic States make more money and more money.

The challenge would be this: you'd have to come-up with stricter regulatory boards to purge corrupt doctors while ensuring you don't just eject doctors on a whim. Also, more importantly, you'll have to eliminate PAS spies without making it look like you're targeting Asian minorities.

There will be anti-government rallies, there will be a lot of covert action (such as mini-gunfights at ports, etc.), there will be a lot of mudslinging from both sides. Mostly this RP is a test of how well you've worked-out your government system and how well you've written your characters. On both the PAS and foreign side, there'll be "good guys" and "bad guys": spies who turn themselves in because they can't bear the crime on their conscience, and doctors who are in it for the quick buck.

There'll definitely be exposes and scandals to be made. If your country has some sort of reigning oligarchy of businessmen, PAS might back them to ensure the operations run smoothly. Also, vice versa, lots of PAS Congressmen will attempt to hijack the operation and accuse the Secretary-General of masterminding it.

Again, this isn't the only trick I have up my sleeve. Among others, I'm also considering starting a pandemic (possibly of bioterrorist origin or by natural means) to get health agencies to collaborate and contain an international virus; and using the People's Maritime Army to ambush sea lanes used for "Western" trade.

Does this sound like something up your alley?

Also, y'know, I really don't think an anti-communist state like Allanea would want to be outproduced. Technology-stealing is also another thing I might introduce with the whole spy conflict concept: select foreign researchers could go missing or have their work hijacked by MSPS spies, and you'd have to investigate them, and/or retaliate through economic/political/social means.

There's honestly a whole lot of potential for this kind of Cold War RPing, but I need veteran people to playtest it with first.

TurtleShroom is very old-timey in this field. TurtleShroomers don't reach for the Krokodil or anything like that: they prefer moonshine, cannabis, and opium. The extra daring ones choose nineteenth-century style refined cocaine. By that, I mean actual smoked opium, like that of nineteenth century China.

Well, krokodil only existed briefly, and only as an artefact of weird Russian drug laws (basically people wwho were too poor for real drugs tried to boil various OTC medications into drugs, and the resulting impurities are what caused their skin to rot and suchlike - this ceased when Russia shrugged and made all the precursor medications tightly controlled much like real drugs - so addicts switched back to opioids like sane people).

As far as In-Character Yohannes is concerned, Pan Asiatic States is the new emerging Oriental power. Yohannes has (RPed, not just written in some factbook articles) connections with multiple established powers, such as the infamous anti-slaver Allanea here.

If Pan Asiatic States tries to import [ Edit1: export ] anything dodgy, the much-strengthened Commonwealth Navy (see “Adrian Goldwert’s Yohannesian Peace”) will simply bring gunboat diplomacy straight to Pan Asiatic States’ door, and the Commonwealth Navy will attempt to forcefully open Pan Asiatic States to Yohannesian trade and investment. Finally, the accumulation of Yohannes’ economic and naval power has been RPed by me since 2010.

My apologies if this sounds harsh. I’m a very nice person and I love to cooperate with other NationStates writers, but if they try to pull anything (unfair) dodgy on me—like subtly trying to convince me to make Yohannes’ population addicted to their fictional drugs, I’m sorry, that is a no-no—I’ll not hesitate to bring the full force of In-Character Yohannes’ accumulated naval power and wealth (actually RPed in the N&I RP forums since 2010, not just made up by writing pretty factbook articles and claiming countless things without actually RPing them), and teach that player a lesson.

We can, of course, have fair, equal, consensual trade between our two NS nations. Pan Asiatic States can import [Edit2: export ] whatever fictional medical drugs it has created (invented) to Yohannes, but there will be no Opium style addictions, or gunboat diplomacy will follow. And, of course, Yohannes will see what Pan Asiatic States needs to import from an overseas Western power beyond the International Incidents. The Commonwealth Navy will protect Pan Asiatic States’ import (and Pan Asiatic States’ wealth brought) to Yohannes, and Yohannes will also expect Pan-Asiatic States to protect its goods in Pan-Asiatic States. All things being equal, the very interesting (with very well-written and pretty worldbuilding factbooks) Pan-Asiatic States fills the roles of yet another emerging Oriental power in Yohannes’ In-Character narrative.

To follow realism (not technology, but common sense), I will start out with a light news post, and maybe a conversation between my characters talking (nicely) about your country in Parliament House (the meeting place of Yohannes’ Parliament). Thank you!

Are you familiar with the original "Avatar" cartoon on Nickelodeon? I have a character named Agni Badwell. She is based off of my favorite character on the show- a major villain, Azula -who grew up in the authoritarian realm of Democratic Koyro and is the daughter of one Koyro national and one Oriental TurtleShroomer predating the end of piecemeal isolation in 1991 AD.

While Koyro himself hasn't posted in years, I don't get to use this character as often as I like. As an interpretation of Azula, except fire. Also, expect poles with skulls... but mostly fire.

Basically, my idea would be that the logging camp that Allanea left hanging would be reenforced by Pan-Asian nationals because TS discovered that it was not an illegal logging camp. The cell Red coalition of Orientalists and Civil War Marxists was discovered shortly after they sent their warning.

The end result is that several Pan-Asian soldiers perish in a bloodbath befitting a parody of a legendary cartoon villain. Agni Badwell applies Koyro tactics to attempt to extract information, but when the Pan-Asians and TurtleShroomers don't break, she just has her way and, after their expiry, puts their heads on poles.

TurtleShroomian policemen have the primary reputation of shooting tasers at anyone and anything that isn't a child, for any reason. Other times, it's truncheons for days. TurtleShroomian cops are generally reserved with guns. It turns out that beatings and tasers are just as effective.
TurtleShroomian riot policemen are unarmed and backed by armed police, and prefer to beat people into the ground.

Badwell served in the Flamethrower Corps in the TurtleShroomian military and particularly enjoyed her job. She is second in command in the national Ministry of the Police and is considered a sure-in for the office when elections presume. She also works with martial special ops forces on the side because of her talent and sharpness when it comes to command and a lack of a conscience.

I think that you, Allanea, and I could have a potential to make this a great story and set our nations (read: mine) on a path of rivalry.
